  • MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking Results

I've had very good results with overclocking my N460GTX Hawk video card.
For the past 6 months I've been documenting my overclocking results and had success with using additional cooling solutions to decrease the PCB and VRM temperatures.
Check out MSI N460GTX Hawk (1GB) Overclocking  and Cooling Results:
    http://forums.tweaktown.com/video-cards/42319-msi-n460gtx-hawk-1gb-overclocking-results.html
As of today (July 4th) the thread has only 93 posts.
My new N460GTX Hawk Talon Attack card is arriving in a few days and I plan to use my N650SLI-DS4 motherboard with an overclocked SLI setup. I'm curious to see how well SLI performance scales with an "ancient" motherboard.

That's supposed to be that way, you WILL NOT be able to monitor voltage changes with any software tool reading voltages via NVIDIA driver.
Hawk uses additional voltage controller chip which is adding programmable voltage offset to output voltage of reference NVIDIA voltage control circuit.
None of tools you've mentioned support that additional chip and just show you expected target voltage (which doesn't match real value in case of adding an offset via that additional chip).
Furthermore, that additional chip itself also doesn't support voltage readings, it doesn't even know which voltage is on its' input, it is rather simple IC which just trying to modify the input value by specified offset.
That is why there is no (and there will not be in future, I've seen rumors that I'm working on getting voltage monitoring working on Hawks and I say that's not true) voltage monitoring for Hawks when alternate voltage controller circuit is in use.
The best thing that can be done to see some form of expected voltage is approximating the output by displaying summ of NVIDIA reference voltage with additional offset, but that's by far not the best solution because both components (reference circuit and additional offset circuit) add its own inaccuracy.

  • Questions about my MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770 and my Dell Studio 7100

Ok, I have had this card installed for about a year now. From the beginning Catalyst Control Center had given me error messages, "Catalyst Control Centre: Host application has stopped working. Windows is checking for solutions" every time I start the machine or every time I try to use the Catalyst Control Center. This has not been a problem because I have been using a 2 monitor system using the DVI port from on and the HDMI to Display Port adapter to the second larger monitor (if I went straight HDMI I can't change the settings and I end up with a 1 inch black border around the desktop and the outer edge of the 23" monitor,) so I just worked around with the HDMI to DVI. Well now I am trying to hook up three monitors. One to the Display port through a Displayport to DVI, one to the HDMI through the HDMI to DVI and one to the Display port. No matter what I try to do through the Windows display control panel, I can not get the displayport monitor (which ever is hook to that port) to display. Windows 7 does detect all three monitors, but it will not allow me to "extend the desktop" to the third monitor and I still can't get the Catalyst Control Center to work.
I have uninstalled all files from ATI or AMD that involve the video and reinstalled the latest drivers and software, but the Catalyst Control center still is not running.
If you could help me with this it would be great. I am a graphics designer and web designer/developer and not a hardware or software tech and I have been googling and trying different possible answers since yesterday morning.
    My graphics card is
MSI R5770 Hawk Radeon HD 5770
    My computer is
Dell Studio XPS 7100, AMD Athlon IIX4 630 Processor 2.80 GHz
    8 gb
    64-bit operating system
I am attempting to hook up a LG W2361 to the HDMI through HDMI to DVI adapter (presently working) at 1920 x 1080
an LG W1952 (at 1440 x 900) through the DVI port to DVI (presently working) and
an old Samsung SyncMaster 170t  to the Displayport through a the adapter (not working) monitor is detected but it will not allow the extend desktop to be applied.
Hope someone can help, thanks in advance for just reading all of this.

Just incase anyone runs into a similar problem. I figured it out.
Somehow in one of either the ATI driver updates or in a Microsoft update, my drivers and software was contaminated. I deleted all software and drivers for the card, which I had already tried several times. But this time I went into safe mode used CCcleaner in safe mode and cleared the register of all entries. I then reloaded and the Catalyst Control center and it works fine now.
The problem with the three monitors seems to be that the one hooked to the displayport, if you are using more than 2 monitors, must be hooked to an active displayport adapter. I was using a passive adapter. So either I need to buy a very expensive adapter or.....maybe a new monitor that uses displayport.
Hopefully this will help someone else having this issue.

  • HELP ASAP! about flashing original SI and warranty

hey huys i had relocked my bootloader and was having french ics. But now when i am updating through SEUS it detects my mob like the french one and hence the same software is reinstalled. Now my question is that am having worldwide version of gb then can i upgrade it and then update through SUES...??? will it detect my SI as it is...???
And one more thing am placing my mob to service centre then is it any threat to my warranty as it have french ics...??
reply asap please am waitng for the answer outside the service centre...!!!

Relocking the bootloader does not bring back the DRM keys, your warranty is VOIDED.
    Also,
As long as the GB is not for your SI number, it will not matter if you downgrade, you will upgrade to that SI number's ICS again which is the GB SI number
You can change ICS system file build.prop file for the SI number you wish and then a repair may bring about the ICS of that SI number.

I've just upgraded my computer with buying a new GFX card (R6870) new ram (DDR3 1600mhz) and a new motherboard (asrock p43de3)
Everything is working when powering on, there is no signal to the monitor however.
    Tried already:
Checked all cables. Using 1x 6pin connector in both spots on the gfx card.
Tried with a backup GFX card, ati radeon 19xx and it worked perfectly, so it's not the motherboard.
I just tried putting in a chassis speaker and i get 2 very fast beeps, pause 8 fast beeps, pause, 1 beep.
I have tried with minimal hardware connected (No hd's, 1 ramblock, no cd drive, fans etc)
It shouldnt be the power supply, my old card (Inno3d geforce 8800 GTS used around the same amount of power according to specifications)
I havent got a newer computer to try the GFX card in, is it even compatible with my asrock motherboard? (I know it should be due to it having pci express 2.1)
    Is the GFX card DOA?
Help much appreciated, been struggeling for +10 hours now..
    Thanks in advance

In theory, yes, the P43-C51 should support the R6870, since it has a v2.0 slot (problems have been mostly with the v1.x slots). That's something you'd have to test though, to find out for certain.
I don't work for MSI btw, if that's what you thought.

    PSU: Seasonic 500W SS-500ES 80 Plus Bronze.
    ram: Corsair CML4GX3M2A1600C9B (2x2Gb) DDR3 .
    monitors: benq GL950A.
    VGA: MSI R6870 HAWK Twin-Frozr-II-OC 1gb.
    OS: WINDOWS 7 64bit.
i want to ask, how to dual monitor with this card? the second DVI is not work.. i have the benq GL950 with VGA connector and i use VGA to DVI-I(single link) - ( this is main the display), and the second one is acer x173w, and it has VGA connector too.. then i bought DVI-I(dual link) connector for the acer x173w, so i place benq GL950 with on the top slot, and the acer x173w on the second DVI slot. But the second monitor is no signal, and i tried to detect the monitors on windows 7 64bit, but windows cant detect it.. and the problem is still same.. no signal, and the screen goes blank after it. i have tried reinstall driver but the problm is still same.. help me please.. im so stressed with this..

If you could find a real ADC to DVI-I adapter, it would work, but the Dr. Botts ADC to DVI adapter
    <http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Dr%2E%20Bott/ADCDVII/>
will not work with a DVI to VGA adapter. It does have a dual-link DVI-I connector, but the pins for analog video (and dual link) do not connect to anything. They use this connector because some non-Apple digital displays come with DVI-I and/or dual-link DVI plugs, when they only need DVI-D signals. The Dr; Botts adapter and (all others that I have seen) are only ADC to DVI-D. Even if they connect the dual-link pins from the ADC to the DVI connector, the result will be single-link DVI-D, since no ADC cards provide dual-link signals. There is no reason (other than cost) why an adapter couldn't connect the analog video signals from ADC to a DVI-I connector, but I don't know of any that do.
    From their web-page:
"DVI Extractor II makes an ADC-compatible display out of virtually any third-party flat panel display"
    Note they say "flat panel".
You need an ADC to VGA adapter. They are listed from $40 to $150. Still less than a compatible replacement graphics card, although you can get a card faster than you current one, if you pay enough.

Video Card: MSI 270X Hawk 2GB
    PSU: FSP ATX-350PNF
    12v rail Rating of listed PSU: 12V1: 18A, 12V2: 16A

Operating System: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64 bit
    GPU S/N: 602-V303-02SB1312000115
It works with the default windows driver in both PCs, but when the AMD driver is installed it fails after the windows welcome screen. Sometimes the screen turns blue, sometimes black/grey, and sometimes there are blue squares in lines on the screen and the PC freezes up. To get it to work again I have to boot into safe mode and remove the driver with Display Driver Uninstaller, since the normal uninstaller doesnt work in safe mode.
    Drivers I tried:
    13-12_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql
    amd_catalyst_14.1_betav1.6
MSI Graphics Driver (both from the CD and the website)
Tried with both BIOS modes. Tried in both PCI-E slots in the asrock board. The 6 pin power connectors are split between the two rails.
I also have an MSI 270X Gaming 2GB, and it works in both PCs without issues. The previous owner updated the BIOS on that one.
I know that the PSUs are far from optimal, but they had no problems with the 270X Gaming on full load or my previous GTX275, even when I overclocked the CPU and had 4/5 hard drives in there. The PSU upgrade (XFX Pro 850W) is on its way, but it is still around a week or more until it arrives.

  • Msi n460gtx hawk voltages???

hello! i need some help with my msi n460gtx hawk. i overclocked this vga and for unknown reasons my voltages to the core/memory/aux stays the same as before at the default clocks(780/1560/1800). now i'm running at 900/1800/2100 mhz, everything stable(msi kombustor burn-in and a lot of games) and those voltage values: +70mv core/+50mv memory/+20mv auxiliar. idle voltage is 0,875v and load is 1,012v same at default clocks and the overclocking. i guess it must show me some increase in voltage, since i pushed forward those values in afterburner,but...everything looks unchanged! i saw others users having some increase in core voltage, when they overclock and tweaking voltages, but is not my case! i don't know what is happening. really,at the voltages i applied it should stay at 0,890-0.900v idle and 1,050v or above in loading... but my hawk looks like i never touched the voltage sliders! i checked those values with gpu-z and aida 64 extreme edition and both show me the same results. i don't have stability issues for the moment, but i guess it will comes some day if my vga don't work with some extra power applied at those frequencys... i have msi afterburner 2.1 installed. i just tried with afterburner 2.0 and the results are the same... i tried 1.6 and i cannot unlock voltage with it... i use an amd phenom II X4 955 clocked at 3,6ghz,mobo gigabyte 890fxa-ud5 and 4 gb ram ddr3 1333mhz dual ch. please someone tell me if is something wrong with my card or i missed something when i overclocked it? thank you very much for your advices!

  • MSI GTX560ti Hawk low 3dmark11 score

I recently purchased MSI GTX560ti Hawk. I ran 3dmark11 on it and on performance mode, I only got P1650 score. The graphics score is very low and the FPS averaged around 6-7.
    Here is my specs:
    Asus P5Q motherboard
    Gigabyte Odin GT 550w PSU
    Intel Q9550 oc@ 3.67GHz
    Kingston DDR2 2x2GB @ 800MHz
    Intel X25-M 160GB SSD
    MSI GTX560ti Hawk
I know the package box suggested using a minimum 600W PSU but I managed to boot into windows and play games with my 550W. I can run Assassin Creed Brotherhood and Shogun 2 on very high graphic setting.
Could the very low 3dmark11 graphics score due to the low PSU power supply? Please help

I just bumped the core voltage up block by block from +0 to +150 on Afterburner 2.2.0 beta 3.
I tested Heaven DX11 benchmark on all of those voltages and there were artifacts in all of them (running VGA default clocks). But there were less artifacts as the core voltage went up.
Is my PSU not supplying enough power?

Is my PSU not supplying enough power?
could be , but basically should be more than enough if the stats can be trusted.
Test the VGA in another machine[who has a better PSU, with strong single rail] then see how its goes there

I just bumped the core voltage up block by block from +0 to +150 on Afterburner 2.2.0 beta 3.
I tested Heaven DX11 benchmark on all of those voltages and there were artifacts in all of them (running VGA default clocks). But there were less artifacts as the core voltage went up.
try next voltage step and retest
