SOS - Sync iPhone on 2nd comp = lost data

A Mac Mini is, by far, my main comp to sync the iPhone.
In November 2013, I did a new same iPhone sync with my MacBook, being on holidays.
Then, from November, didn't use the MacBook (to sync) until today.
In the meantime, did a lot of changes Mac Mini side, like new songs, new playlists, removed songs etc...
Today
Today, being away from home, I did a sync MacBook <=> iPhone, expecting songs / playlists to be copied back from iPhone to MacBook.
But, unfortunately, it did the opposite: bringing all that old November stuff to the iPhone, removing the new songs, the new playlists?!
Questions
Would that be normal due to some internal rules - well, I'd hope the sync would honor some timestamp rules, that would prevent to override new stuff with old stuff.
1. How come such thing can happen? (old stuff over new stuff)
2. More importantly, how can I fix this - still didn't connect to the MacMini where data is new, fresh and sane? Should I connect to the Mini and everything will be fixed? (ie new stuff replacing that old novemebr copied stuff)

I would like to avoid a restore (for good reasons)
But according to your logic, wouldn't connecting the iPhone to the (good) Mac Mini fix everything, since, as you said,
"If you try to sync to a different computer, it wipes everything from the first computer"
in this case it would wipe the MacBook old data - and replace with good new dear Mac Mini data - no?
[ just want to confirm before operating, as I don't want to mess up with Mac Mini data . . . ]

  • Lost some apps after syncing/restoring, how to get lost data back?

I updated the firmware of my iPhone 3GS to iOS 5.1 yesterday. After the update, I noticed that I have lost all of my contacts on the phone, so I plugged it back in to the computer and went with "Restore from backup", which was dated just a few hours prior to updating the firmware.
After it finished restoring, my contacts were all back but half of my apps are missing. I tried redownloading from the App Store as well as syncing from the computer, but the data (game saves, etc) are still missing. How do I get them back?

It's still listed there, dated around 5 hours before I updated. I right-clicked on my iPhone and chose "Restore from backup" and they still weren't there.
Most of the apps that I lost were downloaded within the last 6 months, but the apps that remained contained data that are up to date (to just before the update).
In other words, half of my apps are up to date while the rest are completely missing their data.

  • Syncing iPhone (how to not loose data?)

I have just reinitialized my disk I was using to sync to my iphone, and completely reinstalled a fresh system. Now I'm trying to get my iphone data off my phone (like contacts) and onto my computer, how do I do this without loosing them? Can I sync my mac with my iphone and have the new mac get the iphone data and have none of it deleted off the phone?
If I loose this data off the phone I will have lost a great many things I need.

Yes, you can. Make sure that your address book and calendar have at least one new entry in them.
When you sync the iPhone for the first time it will prompt you to either override the iPhone or Merge the information. Select merge.

  • Macbook got stolen, if i sync iphone with new comp will i lose everything??

Hi all - desperate for help. As mentioned above, my macbook was stolen and now im trying to sync my iphone with my sony vaio, for greater fear that i'll all the data on my iphone that i've already lost on the macbook should it get stolen or damaged, it says that it'll wipe everything...which is exactly what i don't need!
I realise that music had on the laptop cannot be saved again on another machine, but here are the main concerns that i hope you might be able to help me with:
    1) What happens to my apps? If I do a sync now and it wipes? Will i lose all my apps and have to purchase/download/pay for them again? What about extensions of apps, for example, I use iNavX (a marine GPS chart application), and downloaded relevant maps (rather costly) - will i still be able to save them somehow?? Esp given that i am waiting for an iPad i ordered to be delivered to me and i was hoping for a way to transfer them over to it.
    2) What happens to music & movie purchases?
    3) What happens to contacts? If I have a .me account is there some way for me to push my contacts over to it directly from the iphone?
    4) Will i lose all my pictures?
What would your advice be in my situation...to sync and lose everything else or keep everything i have as it is and fingers crossed i never lose/damage the iphone.

Hi there, I have at some point, but I think it's all very messy. As in, I've added random folders of TV Shows and Music to that iTunes folder that i saved as backup a long time ago...what do you think? try it anyway? Thing is though, the Vaio im using is my boyfriend's so he's got his own stuff on iTunes as well...how do i merge the libraries? or can i somehow open iTunes up with an external HDD library?

  • Synced iphone to PC and lost everything

My husband synced his iphone on his sister's PC not realizing that you cannot sync to another person's computer. He lost everything on his iphone, but says he clicked "backup" before syncing. All of his info should be on his sister's computer, right? Is there a way to get his info back from her computer to his phone (contacts, calendar, photos, apps, etc)? I am kind of afraid to plug his phone back into her computer now without some guidance. Any help?
    Thanks-

This does not happen without ample warning. The first warning provided is the iPhone is associated with another iTunes library. This must be followed by manually selecting Sync Music under the Music tab or Sync Apps under the Apps tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer and when doing so, a warning is provided indicating that doing so will erase all iTunes content on the iPhone first. This involves iTunes content on the iPhone only - everything on the iPhone is not erased with doing so.
Unless Sync Photos is selected under the Photos tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer along with selecting photos on the computer's hard drive to be transferred to the iPhone followed by a sync, photos transferred from the computer the iPhone is normally synced with are not erased from the iPhone, nor are any photos/videos in the iPhone's Camera Roll, which are not included with the iTunes sync process.
Unless Sync Contacts is selected under the Info tab for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes on another computer and a supported address book application on the computer is selected, contacts on the iPhone are not touched. The same for Safari bookmarks and calendar events.
The iPhone's backup does not include any iTunes content - no music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, or 3rd party apps, and the backup does not include any photos transferred from your computer. All iTunes content on the iPhone should be in your iTunes library on your computer - the computer the iPhone is normally synced with. All photos transferred from the computer the iPhone is normally synced with should remain on that computer as well.
Where is your husband's computer? Forget about his sister's computer. He needs his computer to restore all content on his iPhone as it was before.

  • HT1386 can you sync iphone music to itunes desktop? I am getting warned that the library will be erased?

Can you re-load/sync the music library to a newly loaded/blank itunes? I am getting warned the library will be erased?

The warning is correct, take it seriously.  If you have a new computer, you need to transfer the iPhone files to it from your old computer.  See these links:

  • Lost data on my Mac after it got reset but my iPhone is still synced to the old version of my Mac?

So, during an awful visit to the Apple store in which the "genius" completely reset my Macbook Pro (10.8.5) because it decided to go "turtle mode" for no reason whatsoever, I lost all my data and files on it. After putting whatever I had backed up back on the Macbook, I put some new things on my iTunes and tried syncing the Mac's iTunes and my iPhone 5 ios7's iTunes. However my iPhone was synced to the older version of my Mac before it crashed and got wiped out. I got this message:
The iPhone “___” is synced with another iTunes library on “___”. Do you want to erase this iPhone and sync with this iTunes library?
An iPhone can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPhone with the contents of this iTunes library.
Is there any way I can get my lost data back onto my laptop with my iPhone? Or if there isn't and I sync the new version of my Mac with the iPhone, will my iPhone lose any data to match my Mac?
    thanks

  • How to restore lost data after accidentally syncing iPhone to new computer?

So, I've been reading around the forum on the correct stepst to syncing an iPhone to a new computer in order to keep all data. Unfortunately, I only saw these discussions AFTER automatically syncing my iPhone with my new computer. So all my phone contents and settings are gone and only my apps remain, because they're still on my iTunes. My question is: is there are painless way where I can restore all my lost data (e.g. contacts, phone setting, VPNs, camera roll photos, messages, etc.) onto my phone again?

lucky you have something left. in my case, i lost my first iphone so i bought a new one and im trying to register for online support and syncing it i just lost all the data in the new phone... all i have is this emergency call on the screen...please help....

  • Syncing iphone data into New Macbook Pro

    Hey guys,
I read a few answers on the forum but I want clear confirmation if any of you could help. I lost data on my Macbook Pro as the hard drive crashed. I bought a new Macbook Pro and I want to sync the data of the iphone into the new computer.
I need to transfer, mainly...SMSes, Contacts, Photos, and mail data (My mail is all IMAP though which is good right? perhaps transfer that information would be nice).
Applications and the data on them if possible and music would be good.
Isit safe and as easy as plug and sync? I also have a Fruux Account but the iphone data is more updated because while awaiting my new laptop, I was using my iphone as the temporary computer.
Is there anything else I should do first? Sync Fruux first or vice versa and should I do anything else?
    Thank you!

Good, glad you have a backup. So what you need to do is move those libraries from your PC to the new MBP and then import them into iTunes. Follow the instructions you will find here. I would recommend you move the files to an external HD.
Prior to doing that I would also recommend you read over Switch 101 and Mac 101. Both of these links will provide you invaluable information for someone making the switch from a PC to a Mac.

  • Re-sync iphone data?

    Hello everyone,
The reason Im contacting you is I have a question regarding phones.
I had a 32gb iphone 4 and I lost it. When I had it, every couple of weeks I'd plug it into the laptop and it would automatically sync all my stuff.
So, I have 2 questions I was hoping you could answer for me.
    1) If I was to get another iphone - would I be able to plug it into the laptop and get my stuff back? Im mostly concerned about the photos.
    2) If I only got a 16gb iphone - what would be the story there? As I had about 20gb of stuff synced? Would I still be able to retrieve my stuff?
Any help you could give me would be big time appreciated,
    Cheers

    See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2109
Your content can be separated into media, apps and data (including photos). The backup includes your data, but not media or apps, which can be reinstalled from iTunes or redownloaded. As most of your content is probably media just choose less of it to sync when you set up the new phone.

  • HT201263 I would like retrieve all my data from my IPhone 4S after I lost all my data! Please help! ? Thank You.

I would like retrieve all my data from my IPhone 4S after I lost all my data due constant Apple logo on! After I restored this phone I lost all my contacts, text messages, pictures, videos..!!! The question I have is if I never backed up to iCloud and iTunes is there any way I can retrieve all my data that was before restoring this iPhone 4S. Please help! ? I greatly appreciated !!!

If you never synced your phone to your computer and your contacts were not synced to iCloud or another cloud-based service, everything is gone. You will have to start fro scratch.

iPhones require a SIM for activation.
Put the device in DFU mode (google it) and restore via iTunes.

  • How do I sync iPhone to new Macbook without losing data?

Been searching the internet for several weeks now, and haven't managed to find anything that helps, so here's the deal: I've had an iPhone 4 for a bout a year or so now, and I just got a new Macbook Pro a few weeks ago. I had previously been syncing my iPhone to a shared computer, so obviously I couldn't just set up my new computer using the data of the old one. I wasn't too concerned about this, until I discovered that I couldn't sync my iPhone to the new computer without losing all of the data on it! So I'm trying to figure out how I can save my iPhone's data in such a way that I can restore it upon syncing to the new computer. To clarify, I don't need to save all of the data—I've already gotten my purchases and music transferred over, and I'm in the process of transferring my contacts and notes over, but I have no way of saving the other data. Most of it is superfluous, such as call records or web history—but I do care about game data and iMessage data. So it comes down to this: I need a way to be able to store save files for all my games AND all of the text messages in my iMessage app. I've seen lots of people recommend various file transfer programs, which I assume work for game data, but as far as I've been able to tell from the demos versions, all they'll do for iMessage is export conversations as pdf or text files. I'm not looking to save a hard copy of my text messages, I want to be able to upload them to my iPhone again as text messages (both sent and received). In other words, I'd like my phone to be pretty much exactly the same after syncing it as it is now. At least, as far as the iMessage/game apps are concerned. Maybe I didn't know how to use the file transfer programs, maybe I didn't download the right one, maybe there's another way to do it, I don't know. If anyone can help me solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
BTW, My iPhone is running iOS 7.1.2, my Macbook is running OSX 10.9.4. Also, I do still have access to the computer my iPhone is currently synced to, as well as an iPod Touch 4 that's also got most of the data I want on it, if that will help at all.

So, just in case anyone with the same problem happens to run into this post, I managed to find a solution to this problem. There's a $35 program called iBackupbot, which works for both Windows and Macintosh. It's basically an iTunes backup service, except that it functions independently. You can also do partial restores with the program. Anyway, it's a very useful program, and it can sync data from one device synced to one computer to another device synced to another computer (or to a restored device synced to a new computer). If you're willing to shell out $35 for the program, here are the steps to restore your iPhone's data:
Transfer all of your purchases from your old computer to your new computer, including music and videos. This program is good, but it only syncs data files, so music and apps cannot be synced over (that I can tell).
Download and register iBackupbot on your NEW computer (http://www.icopybot.com/buy.htm)
    Plug in your iPhone
When you iPhone appears in iBackupbot, click on its name and then click 'backup now' on the information screen. It will take at least five minutes.Once the backup is complete, you might want to test it out. I'd recommend deleting a few pictures or messages, and then restoring from a backup, to ensure that the backup worked properly.
Quit iBackupbot. (It's a good program, but I've noticed that it's kind of glitchy, and it works best on the first action of each session)
Wipe your iPhone and set it up as a new one. Make sure you link it to the same Apple ID that your new computer is associated with.
Once your iPhone has been set up, sync it to your new computer and re-download all of your music, apps, and other purchases.
Change your iPhone's name (this is to check and make sure that iBackupbot recognizes your iPhone)
Reopen iBackupbot, and click on your iPhone's name when it appears.
Right-click the name and select 'restore from backup.'
Leave the settings alone, and check 'full restore'
This will take quite a while, and your iPhone will probably be glitchy when the restore is finished. Quit iBackupbot again, and then power your iPhone off and then back on.
Check all of your apps (including the system apps) to make sure that all of your desired data has been put back on your iPhone. For me, out of about 70 downloaded apps, 4 did not have any data when I had finished the restore. If this is the case, you can can try another full restore or do a partial restore this time, selecting only the apps that did not have data.
Once you're satisfied that your iPhone has all of the data you want, sync it to you computer to make sure that it will still sync to your new computer (you never know)
Change your iPhone's name to what you want it to be, then reopen iBackupbot.
Do a final backup of your iPhone in iBackupbot.
Sync your iPhone with your new computer one last time, and do a backup of it using iTunes.
    You're done!
I hope this helps. Good luck to anyone who decides to try this method!
