Sound Acceleration Hardware

i don't know if this question is posted before or not. i haven't seen any. i get this game, but i get trouble playing an episode of it. any other pc gamer says it can be fixed by going to dxdiag and change the sound acceleration hardware to the lowest. it only happens in this episode. is it possible for mac to do such a thing like that? i go to sound settings in the system, but i don't see anything.
i guess i'm just hopeless with the episode of the game i'm playing. lol. i'm using mac os x to play the game via wines. i don't install windows on my mac.
any input will be appreciated. thank you.

Hi,
As far as I know, Via Vinyl drivers are not the correct drivers for the onboard sound...........(Del )........ you should be using the Realtek drivers............

  • Sounds like hardware or OS X problem?

Since a while now my powerbook only charges the batteries when it's on - not in sleep mode or off.
The bluetooth is also not working properly.
However the Apple Hardware test finds nothing wrong with the logic board.
Could it be OS X? Might a re-install from scratch fix it?
Or would it definitely have to be hardware?
    Thanks
    Jason

It should be able to recharge while off. That's a hardware issue with the power manager.

  • Sound capture hardware/software for voice over work

Sorry if this is a little off topic,
    Environment: Production Premium CS3 (Windows)
I'm doing voice over audio capture for web videos. Currently, I use Soundbooth or the sound card software (Creative Labs) to capture.
    1. What is the best mic setup? I use a $30 headset boom mic. Is there a better way? I would rather record clean than spend time trying to clean up the audio. Any links to tutorials on setting up an audio studio?
    2. Should I use Soundbooth to capture?
    thanks for any ideas,
    fred

I use a $50 headset. I use Sb to capture VO audio. I also use Sb to clean up the audio.
If your room is fairly quiet or if the background noise is constant, then you can clean up the audio in Sb quickly. No need to go to the expense and trouble of creating a studio.
The trick is to capture 15-30 seconds (sometimes you can get away with less) of "silence" in the room so that you can use it as a noise print for the NR tool in Sb.
I've had good success using about 75%-80% for the amount of reduction.

  • Sound Not Hardware...

Interesting thing I found when I listened to my voicemail the other day. It was so loud I thought it automatically piped through speakerphone. I was shocked to realize it was coming from the earpiece speaker. I had the volume cranked in settings and with the side toggle to make calls tolerable in slightly noisy enviroments. I had to turn the volume with the side buttons all the way down to 3 bars to make it not sound like it was on speakerphone.
    Anyone else experience this?
In a way I'm happy to know that the speaker can be a lot louder, but in the other it was quite emberassing having everyone listen to the first part of a message I had recieved.

I am surprised to hear this.
Has your phone always been like this, or did it change to being louder after you've used it for a while. If it changed, did you do anything different like sync it, restore it or reset it that might have influenced the new behavior?
My voicemail volume is extraordinarily low even on speaker and am wondering if I could replicate your experience with my own phone.
    Thanks,
    Joe

  • No hardware acceleration

I now have Dx Diag reporting that my Sb Fatalty XFi does not support hardware sound acceleration. The card is also not being seen as an XFi by Fear and Fear expansion pack! The XFi setup choices are greyed out!
All this since running the autoupdate which tried to install Mediasource 5. The install sticks at 32% no matter how I tried to get round it! (Tried downloading the update exe and also unzipping same and running the setup. Always stalls at 32%!!!) So now I have Mediasource 4 still functioning and a menu entry for media source 5 (in the SB XFi volume panel only) which does nothing! It looks like autoupdate has creamed my sound card software! What now?
    Hetzer

No my Creative 5700 digital speakers will not work with the Xfi and so are relegated to my other PC with the ageing but superior Audigy 2! It does have a suitable digital output for 5. digital speakers.
I have after extensi've pratting about been able to sack all Media source 3 (not 4 as I previously said) ap
    ps.
The Media source 5 install was eventually persuaded to install by stopping absolutely all background stuff. (anti virus, firewall, webcam, logitech mouse bloatware etc etc) and also stripping the Media source 5 install of everything except the core mediasource 5 files. To do this you do the advanced setup and unselect everything non essential!
However Dxdiag still reports no hardware buffering in the Sound panel. The tests are software buffering only and a message says "This card cannot provide hardware buffering"
This is surely not correct for an XFi Falatty with 64megs onboard RAM?!!
P.S. The idiot Creative web Autoupdate now implores me to reinstall the Mediasource 3 Organizer / Player!!!!
I wish I had never bought this awful sound card. It has been a major disappointment and a source of trouble and frustration from day one! It does nothing an Audigy 2 Ex or ZS does as well and will not work with my Creative 5. digital speakers! What a waste of such a lot of money!

  • X-Fi Fatal1ty PCI/-Express - All Hardware Acceleration Crashing, Significant R

    Hello,
I've made a few posts on the forums recently about various topics to help me isolate the issue I am having. At this point, using the latest stable drivers for either a PCI or PCI-E X-Fi Fatalty, any hardware acceleration of sounds is causing my system to bluescreen, freeze or crash the application. Some games give me no option of not using hardware acceleration (ie. Rainbow6 Vegas 2), resorting in my having to change my Sound Acceleration down to Emulation Only. This setting greatly eases off on the sound latency buffers, resulting in sounds that are delayed an entire second. The good news is no crashes and sounds actually sound correct.
A few things to note about my setup,
) I am an extreme computer professional, programmer and developer. My Windows XP SP2 installation is incredibly streamlined; I only have 6 services running and all non-essential drivers removed, resulting in only 69MiB commit charge at startup across processes and ~950 threads. Suffice to say, my system is baby-cheek clean, and I aim to keep it that way.
    2) I have been using this setup for many years now. I have been using NVIDIA video cards for the past 5+ years, currently I have a GTX280, and all of them have behaved perfectly with my streamlined setup. I even unregister every single one of NVIDIA's DLLs and stop all of their services, and the 3D Settings Per Application and Color Control Features still all work. Suffice to say, NVIDIA's drivers, although a trite on the large side, are written well enough to keep drivers away from OS services (as it should be).
    3) My other hardware is not at fault. I have tested the X-Fis against multiple PSUs, different video cards, multiple fresh installations of Windows and more. I don't use utilities to clean my drivers; I do it by hand. I know exactly what's on my system and what I want removed. Though it may be egotistical to state, I'm pretty much knowledgable of every component my system has running.
    4) As a result of this knowledge and my desire to keep my system clean, I ONLY HAVE INSTALLED the drivers necessary for my X-Fis to work. I DID install Creative Audio Console, but the application seems to have too many dependencies on OS Services, since it never runs, either reporting that my audio device cannot be found, or the application simply does nothing and a bogus error is written to the event log. I have enabled DCOM to make sure it wasn't dependent on that, and it still does not work. To summarize, yes, I have tried enabling every service I could find that it might depend on, and none worked. Creative Audio Console is, to me, a piece of ill-written software. In comparison to NVIDIA's excellent control panel which works no matter how much stuff I remove, Creative's Audio Console fails.
I do not have the Creative Audio Licensing Engine, I do not have the Creative Audio Control Panel, I do not have the Creative Labs Audio Engine Service, I do not have CMSS or any other OS-level services that normally get installed. Remember people, drivers are NOT TO BE DEPENDENT on OS services; they are protocols defining to the OS how to communicate with the hardware. Any necessity of additional "service" software is way past the acceptable standards of drivers.
    5) That being said, I had no issues with stability using older drivers on my PCI X-Fi Fatalty cards. These drivers were dated early 2007, and did not install all of the X-Fi Effects, Utility Effects, 20x Effects, etc. drivers. Mind you I preferred these drivers since they were much simpler to track, as they only had a few .sys files.
As it stands, I want to use my PCI-Express X-Fi Fatalty, but I want to use it without all of Creative's bloat. I want streamlined, driver-only installation that does not NEED external applications to reinforce its stability. Creative, IS THAT POSSIBLE? Can someone, by definition of the Windows Driver Management signature system, just use your drivers alone for stable gaming? If not, you're violating standards and should never have received WDM cert. on any drivers. I highly recommend you do NOT spit back, saying that for proper functionality, performance, stability, etc. you must install all of Creative's supplemental software. These requires are in violation of the ethics behind software drivers and receiving Digital Signature Certification from Microsoft on your drivers.

    Infinity7,
I do not want to sound arrogant, but the list of options you provided me with is the stereotypical laundry list of system configuration information for any piece of hardware. I'll address everything though.
) No, I'm not using an NVIDIA chipset. I'm using an ASuS Maximus Extreme, just like you said, which uses the X38 chipset.
    2) I'm using Windows XP 32-bit, SP2. I have 2 GiB of memory and do NOT have PAE enabled.
    2) I don't have onboard sound; our motherboard has a PCI-E sound card which I do not have installed.
    3) I don't have any spyware. I don't browse the web on my system. I know every program running and have no rootkits. Nothing is hiding from me.
    4) I don't use antivirus programs. I've been on the internet for 5+ years now and have never needed an antivirus program, since I know when I have a virus and I remove it manually.
    5) I have the latest version of DirectX, June 2008 Redistritutable. Note that most of the post DX 9.0c revisions are meant for D3D, and have nothing to do with DSound.
    6) I've tried every PCI-E slot I have, including both PCI-E x slots and both PCI-E x6 slots. The card is currently in one of my x6 slots.
    7) Any 998+ system is going to have IRQ sharing. Between ACPI BIOSes (more IRQs), Windows XP and drivers, IRQs are rarely in conflict, aside from occasional USB device IRQ sharing. To answer your question, yes, currently both my video card and sound card are sharing IRQ 6. I have done enough work to isolate that IRQ sharing is NOT the issue, though, especially through my testing of the PCI card and the PCI-E card experiencing the same issue.
    8) The output sampling rate of games is not always configurable, and never makes a difference. The X-Fi always upsamples everything it gets as it is, though I guess there is some validity to the sampling rates that are streamed into the buffers.
Now, to address the rest of your suggestions I say read my post. I specify that changing acceleration to emulation results in perfect stability and sounds that sound correct, however the relaxed latency results in sounds? that are easily delayed by second. This is unacceptable for gaming, obviously.
As for your ordering of driver installation, it really is through lack of knowledge that people state what order drivers must be installed in. Even NVIDIA's drivers probe for any change through the interfaces they use when the system starts, so any chipset drivers that drastically change the devices in Windows will be detected as changed by other drivers. Be that as it may, I didn't even have the X-Fi in my computer when I installed this latest version of Windows. Only after I had installed everything did I begin to install the Creative Drivers (whilst avoiding all bloatware).
Most importantly, note that I determined when the crashing started occuring with my original PCI version of the card. After I installed the drivers that started including the additional .sys files (X-Fi Effects, 20X effects, etc.) the crashing occured. As far as I know I cannot use older drivers with the PCI-E model, so rolling back to those previous drivers is out of the question.
    Lastly, for my system specs,
Motherboard : ASuS Maximus Extreme X38 Chipset, BIOS 0907
CPU : Intel QX9650 (OCed from 3.0GHZ to 3.6GHZ, stable through Orthos testing)
Memory : (2) GiB Corsair Dominator Sticks, 4-4-4-2
Video : eVGA GeForce GTX280 FTW Edition (PCI-Express)
PSU : Thermaltake Toughpower 200W (backed by UPS)
Sound : Creative X-Fi Fatalty PCI / PCI-Express (tried both independently)

  • Hardware Acceleration for Linux with FireFox 4

    '''Is this just a myth?'''
I am using Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit and FireFox 4 stable with a GT 240 and the latest nvidia binary driver. I have this set up as a HTPC through HDMI cable and have audio as well through the HDMI. It works wonderfully! I can watch x.264 and my intel celeron 2.8 GHz doesn't even get out of bed thanks to hardware acceleration.
Now, that is NOT the case while on the web... It is a tall order to watch HD quality flash (although with the [http://demos.hacks.mozilla.org/openweb/HWACCEL/ mozilla hardware stress test] I get 45 FPS). It seems to be that hardware acceleration is still very much in its infancy in the linux environment with firefox 4.
After searching through many threads I have come to find some useless information.
    ''MOZ_ACCELERATED=1 MOZ_GLX_IGNORE_BLACKLIST=1 firefox'' - does nothing
    ''layers.acceleration.force-enabled=true'' - does nothing
There seems to be an issue with firefox not recognising the installed graphics card. On Windows machines, the about:support page will report all the graphic card information in the Graphics section in addition to '''GPU Accelerated Windows 0/1''' or '''1/1'''. This seems to NOT be the case in linux. Why? Why doesn't firefox discover the installed graphics card?
Now, if I have missed a memo or been a total newb in this attempt to take advantage of Accelerated Hardware in FireFox 4 for linux '''PLEASE ENLIGHTEN ME''' as to what I need to do. If I have done all the things needed to achieve hardware acceleration and it is just not possible, than the good 'ol folks at mozilla should be a little more transparent when they proudly proclaim that they have released a hardware accelerated browser.
If anyone can shed some light on this predicament please post. If anyone has hit the same wall as I have please post... rant... w/e...

I am trying to transfer videos that I've recorded with my ipod camera to my computer. The option to auto play does not pop up when I plug in my ipod, so I looked up how to do this manually. Apple support websites told me to go to Control Panel and then Hardware and Sound, but Hardware and Sound is not listed in my control panel options. What other options do I have? • Sound Blaster Instability - Are you affected? (Stability Test for "Squealing", et

I've created a test that works on my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS with my particular hardware configuration as a proof of concept of the instability ( "high-pitched squealing" ) issues I have. (I have an ASUS P5N-E SLI motherboard.) I am seeking to find out if it "works" for other people with squealing issues (i.e. triggers them).
Do our problems really have common symptoms, or a common source? I hope we can find that out, and ideally this would be a step toward that.
I believe it would be helpful for people who have problems with their cards to post some system information, along with descriptions of what the problems are.
Some useful system information to post would be . Motherboard, 2. CPU, 3. Video Card, 4. Sound Card, 5. Operating System, 6. Sound Driver and version, 7. Power Supply.
.. and then whether you have problems with Snap-Crackle-Pop (SCP), High-Pitched Squealing (HPS), BSODs, or other errors.
    For example, here's my information:
    . ASUS P5N-E SLI
    2. Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
    3. ATI X800XT
    4. Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS
    5. Windows XP Pro SP2
    6. Creative drivers, 5.2.4.96 (SBAX_WBUP2_LB_2_09_006)
    7. Cooler Master iGreen Power 600W
I experience HPS and BSODs. Typical times for the sound test to fail for me are between 5 seconds and 2 minutes.
Some information is better than none. It's not necessary to give complete system information if you don't know it all. But the most important information would be what motherboard you have, what sound card you have, what problems you experience (if any) and whether or not the test results in instability for you.
IMPORTANT: It's important to note that you are running this test AT YOUR OWN RISK, and while the files included don't inherently cause harm, it is possible for data corruption to occur if your system is affected by this issue.
These key files are needed in order to perform the test: a MIDI and a high-definition audio file (in this case, a high-definition (24-bit/48kHz) WAVE of near-silence). These are included in the zip file I have linked to below. According to CreativeSkeptic, MIDI playback makes high utilization of the PCI bus, so this may be why the problem is caused so easily this way.
I would be interested in hearing your results if you have experienced the high-pitched squealing in games or even if you haven't.
You can hear an example of what may happen if you experience instability [url="http://www.supload.com/listen?s=Sxfea3MfL">here[/url].
    Sound Blaster Test.zip at Wikiupload.com
    Or.. Sound_blaster_test.Zip by Bigupload.Com
(Note: The zip file is around 50KB in size, but it expands to over 42MB. This is due to the high-definition nature of the 5-minute wave file necessary to induce this problem in affected systems.)
This test will measure the stability of your Sound Blaster in your
particular system configuration. It is tested with Windows XP and
Windows Media Player , though these *may* not be essential for the
    functioning of the test.
    WARNING:
CLOSE ALL RUNNING PROGRAMS TO AVOID DATA LOSS AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE.
    Instructions:
. Open silence.wav in Windows Media Player. To do so, you can drag it
onto the Windows Media Player shortcut in this folder.
    2. Then, open the Play Midi shortcut.
    Note:
This test will ONLY work if your system is using standard or full
hardware sound acceleration. In addition, your system must be using
your Sound Blaster as its MIDI interface directly. Software synthesizers
    will not trigger the problem.
You can tell if your system has become unstable based on the
corrupted nature of the instruments played by the MIDI. It will
begin to sound odd and unnatural, with random notes inserted
here and there. It will be clear to you that this has happened.
For me, it doesn't take more than a few minutes before the instability
    appears.
If this is the case, it is recommended that you do one of two things:
    - Press the RESET button on your computer.
    - Pull the power plug, if you have no reset button.
This is to avoid data loss associated with a blue screen of death
that would normally occur if you did not take these measures to
    prevent it.
If you do experience these stability issues, you are at risk of BSOD's
when gaming or other playback problems. Please report this in the forum.
To hear a sample case of instability, visit the following URL:

My X-Fi XtremeGamer passes this "test". No BSODs, etc. But I've discovered my computer has problems beyond sound card issues (I didn't even notice them until recently).
In other words, I've seen firsthand (whether this is true for the majority or not) that my issues with the Audigy 2 ZS don't translate exactly over to the X-Fi XtremeGamer, so if you have an X-Fi don't expect problems with this test, but by all means try if you want to see for sure.
(One problem remains from the Audigy 2 ZS, however: randomly skipping ahead in videos or certain audio streams. It doesn't happen with onboard audio, but my tendency is still to call this a system problem unrelated to the sound card because it doesn't happen on my old PC.)
(Oh, and I know I'm replying to my own post, so don't think I'm nuts. I just thought it would be appropriate to report my experience with my new card in another post.)Message Edited by sireebob on 03-27-20072:24 PM

  • No 'default port acceleration' in

I recently upgraded from Windows xp to windows xp pro x64 (final retail) and have noticed one glaring difference when it comes to the creative 64 bit drivers......
'default port acceleration' is no longer available, when it was under the win32 OS. I no longer can test the sound with hardware options as it's all 'emulated' now and sounds just like the microsoft synthesiser... it used to be extremely apparent as to whether the sb audigy 2 was better, now it just sounds the same.
I have a Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value.
Please tell me what it is that enables this feature (on and off) and how I may get it back. I read on another forum that your music tab should list your soundcard FIRST in hardware and be the default port. My default port is the software 'microsoft synthesiser'. I'm **bleep** sure it used to be the audigy 2 first up.
Either way, what exactly happened with these 64-bit drivers (running the latest ones) and why is that feature now disabled.
Thanks in advance. I just can't find any information or even a solution to this problem anywhere.

In addition to mranderson's response, the port to use to signon to the domain depends on how/where you are running EDS. Port 5001 is the default port for the TCPIP ORB (running standalone in a command window).. If, however, you run EDS in the HTTP ORB the port could very well be different..Tim TowApplied OLAP, Inc

  • SBLive 5.2 Sound Bugs; GTA San Andr

I?ve been hearing about all these sound problems for SB Li've 5. on GTA San Andreas.
    Things like;
After it rains, or entering a building = loss of all ambient sound, or all sound
Entering a car = hear nothing but the radio
    No sound in cut scenes.
    Solutions?
. There has been some success converting to quadraphonic. This is done via special non-Li've drivers like kXproject ones, or (try this first) just resetting windows sound settings to quadraphonic.
    2. Also in one case an individual used the most recent windows 98 drivers and the bugs disappeared. Very confusing
    3. Running dxdiag.exe, and pushing sound acceleration down notch by notch until it works, has had some success.
    4. Also reinstalling the drivers is always a good thing.
I?d like to get some official Creative feedback on this issue if possible.

I've had the same kind of problems with my older Audigy soundcard...And honestly, the lack of response to this from either Rockstar or Creative is annoying me! I've tried using different drivers, which helped for a short while, but then my crackling and popping was right back where I didn't want it!
I'm currently unable to play the ****ed game in a satisfactory matter, if I leave the hardware acceleration on, the sound just starts popping, which also makes the game freeze for seconds at a time...A framerate of 0. frames per second is no fun at all! When I turn down the hardware acceleration, all I have left is the sound of the car radio, all speech and car sounds (the whole atmosphere of the game) are gone!
    Things I've tried thusfar :
    - Using SBLi've/Audigy drivers
    - Installing the original drivers
    - Replacing the eax.dll file with an older version (this actually helped for a bit, but apparently today the problems have returned)
    - Changing/checking my speaker settings (both in the creative control panel and through windows)
    - Using my onboard soundcard gave the same problems, so it might not even be a creative problem...As I'm sure they're happy to read!
This is annoying the hell out of me, I must have spent hours looking for a good fix for this problem, and all I'm finding in answers is to upgrade my soundcard, but noone is saying that that actually works! The most problems come from using older Audigy cards, but that's just wack. What ever happened to backwards compatibility? Has that been pushed out the door for the sake of profits?
I would like to hear the right solution, or a patch from either Rockstar or Creative, but I'm not holding my breath until this happens... The strange thing is that these problems only occur in GTA games, I haven't had a single sound problem in any other game!Message Edited by Binsky on 06-25-2005 0:04 PM
