Sound and other problems

Firstly I have some sound problems:
Yesterday I watched a movie which I always do with my headphones on. I noticed the sound quality was terrible: No bass AT ALL and hardly any power in the sound, I had to turn the volum way up. I also heard a constant high pitched tone... It really pissed me off...
And just a minute ago I heard a single beep come from somewhere in my case, what does that mean?
Thanks,
Owen

Hmm, I havent had any issues with my movie/tv collection and a pair of very cheap headphones, sound seems around the same as my old onboard ac97, just a bit more "clear".
Did you try with other sound-sources, like winamp, etc ?
Reason I ask, is that if you play movies in windows some audi-codecs give really low sound (fx. I have had quite a few movies where the bagground music would be loud, but I could hardly hear the voices) especially the ac3-audio codec can cause this, pretty sure theres a utillity floaing about on the net, that allows for tweaking sound volumes in ac3-based sounds.
Havent had any beeps either...

  • HT4623 Sound and other problems with Ipad 3 after ios 6.1.3 update

I purchased Ipad 3 last year and got problem of losing sound when I restored the Ipad throgh itunes. The sound came back automatically after I charged the device to 100%. Recently I got the same problem when the operating system was Ios 6.1.2 and then i got updated it to ios 6.1.3. The problem has not been solved while has been added up. Now the Ipad operation is slow, its either freezes and crashes frequently. Once it gets in sleep mode then it does not come back untill i press power button and home button togehter for sometime. I have checked all settings like mute and have restored the ios multiple times on two separate PCs but the problem is still there. Please help me what i need to do next.

Try a reboot of your ipad. Hold the Sleep/Wake button and Home button simulataneously. Keep holding, ignoring the red slider, until the Apple logo appears. Release the buttons and let the ipad restart. A reboot often fixes numerous problems.
Also are you aware that by suncing with a different computer it is likely the personal stuff you had on your ipad from your imac will be removed?
The ipad is designed to sync with only one device.

  • IMac 20" sound and other problems

My dad has just bought me a 20" intel iMac for my 18th birthday, and has let me have it 2 weeks early, and I love it!
But yesterday i ran into various troubles. I turned my mac on, hearing the usual startup chime, but there was no sound at all coming from the internal speakers as soon as I got into Mac OS (fully updated as well as firmware 1.01) e.g. playing a song on itunes. Absolutely nothing.
When I plugged in my usual external speakers into the headphone jack, the sound was unusually low, and when turning the external speakers up there was a very distinct crackling sound along with the music that was playing.
This, I thought, was just a minor problem that could be easily rectified. That was until my screen went a dark transparent grey with a multilingual message telling me that I needed to restart my computer. So I did, and mac os booted up again telling me that Mac Os had encountered an error. I sent a report to apple at this point too. Then the screen went transparent grey again telling me to restart.
This continued, and I decided to quickly back up my files to a nearby pc (I'm recently converted to Macs), and I inserted my Mac Os install disk. I knew what I was doing as I'd formatted a few days ago due to accidently erasing my mac partition whilst trying out bootcamp . I did a full erase of the mac harddrive, and started the install process, when the grey screen happened again! This led me to beleive it wasnt a software fault. I restarted and attempted to install again. This time no grey screen, but a horrible noise came from the under the bottom left of the screen like a violent clicking. I turned the mac off straight away. I booted up again and installed Mac OS without any errors.
Still, no sound and still the grey screen popped up. I finally decided to phone Apple up with the number from the applecare box. The man on the other end guided me through various diagnostic procedures, getting me to hold applealt+RP, and got me to reinstall mac os, at which point we hung up.
Mac OS worked fine this time with no grey screens, but the sound still didnt work. I phoned applecare up again and a woman showed me the sound pane in system properties. The Output listing didnt show internal speakers at all and just showed Line Out. Well all in all my mac is in the same state right now, apart from I keep getting more and more grey screens, and it seems to be really unstable when trying to install software updates for example.
The woman on the phone arranged to have it repaired, but I was wondering whether anyone had any clue as to whats going on with my mac.
I'd really appreciate any ideas or comments about it. I'm sorry about the length of this post too!

    hey rob,
if your machine was okay, up to the point of your 'experiment' with installing windows, it looks like your problems stem from a dodgy reinstall after the bootcamp attempt [i did the same thing, duing the formatting prep for windows, erased the os x partition bahhh]...i reinstalled and i haven't had any problems since[trying to find a slipstreaming scheme with the older xp pro disk i have].
importantly, though is this clicking sound, not good.
i'd like to know, through looking in the apple system profiler what brand HDD your machine came with. there would be letters designating western digital, seagate or maxtor.
it may be, that this component is faulty. imho i'd prefer one brand over another that apple uses, other threads on the subject have different opinions about that...; ^]

  • Crashes, sound loss, and other problems

    Hello,
I have been having some serious problems over the past several months. In the past it was fairly manageable, but recently things have been getting worse.
I have a 12-inch PowerBook G4, I bought it at the McGill bookstore in October 2004. The first problem was the apparently random crashes that Mac OS X (v.10.4.8) would experience from time to time. It was fairly infrequent at first so it didn't bother me too much (and I thought it was just some sort of glitch). But it persisted and came to be expected.
What would happen is that my screen would darken and center box would appear telling me, "You need to restart your computer. Hold down the Power button for several seconds or press the Restart button." (it would display this message in English, French, German, and Japanese for my convenience). After I restart the computer I get the message, "The computer was restarted after Mac OS X quit unexpectedly". At first it seemed to be linked to time; after a while it would just crash, sometimes after an hour or so, sometimes after as little as five minutes. (I fear as I write this that I will have to start over). More recently I've come to associate the crashes with movement of the computer; perhaps the battery (which is pretty much dead after so much use) is affecting the performance, I don't know.
The next problem, which coincided with the crashes, was my clock being reset. I assumed this was directly associated with the spontaneous shutdown of the computer, yet though the crashes continued, the clock was not always reset (just about a third of the time). This was a pretty frustrating inconvenience given the frequency of the crashes at the beginning.
The major problem that prompted me to take action was the lose of sound. One day, about a month ago now, my sound suddenly stopped working. At first I thought it was a hardware problem, but then I noticed the sound was still working with some things and just not others. For example, the sound increase/decrease indicator (the 'pop' sound when turning up or down the sound) stopped working, yet the startup sound still worked. I've found that Realplayer, MPlayer X 2, and Windows Media Player work fine but iTunes, VLC, and Quicktime don't. Most of the applications simply don't make sound but when I try to video in VLC I get the following error: "auhal: we cannot find our HAL component" or "auhal: audio-device var does not exist. device probe failed."
Other minor errors I have come across include inability to detect the Airport card (remedied upon restarting the computer) and occasional seizing up of the keyboard (the letter keys, exclusively, were unresponsive for sometime before working again suddenly without need of restart).
I've run diagnostic tools such as Disk Utility and the 'fsck' command in single-user mode, but nothing has been detected. It consistently comes up saying that everything is alright.
I have backed-up all important files and programs (with the exception of my Firefox bookmarks, do you know how I can save those?) and am prepared to do whatever it takes to bring my computer back to working order. I need my computer for schoolwork and assignments so if I can fix it myself in anyway... I would prefer to avoid lengthly repairs if possible.
Please let me know what my options are, and/or possible things I can do to repair these problems. This whole affair is, unsurprisingly, driving me crazy.
One last thing, upon launching Microsoft Word, I get the following pop-up:
    Application Launch Failure
The application "Word" could not be launched because of a shared library error: "3<Microsoft Word><Microsoft Word><MicrosoftLSLibZ>"
I do not know whether this is linked to my other problems or not. This too, is something that has recently come up and is significantly affecting my work (I have had to switch to writing my essays on TextEdit).
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,

  • Ios 5.0.1 crashing, slow and other problems

I am using an iPhone 4 running 5.0.1 and Im just fed up with it, as much as I loved the iPhone in the past Im afraid I have fallen out of love and I'm conteplating a breakup.
Problems I have had with the version 5.*.* update:
    * Safari and the built in youtube app crash at least twice daily and other apps, most notably accuweather and Facebook also crash on a daily basis
    * Pages/windows don't load properly, an example of this is the texting app, I open the app and select a converstation, the "messages" button, name and "edit" buttons apear at the top but the area that would disply the text conversation never changes to show the accutual text messages and only pressing the home button and reentering the messages app will fix this.
    * I have had text messages compleatly disapear if I recive one while acitivly using the phone, mostly by pressing the home button or preforming other input at the same exact time I recive a text message. I get the popup notification dispalying the text of the message in the notifaction but when I go to reply to the message It is gone, like it never existed.
    * Simply navagating the phone such as menus, back buttons, or loading apps is slow. I can out type the keyboard and in general the phone is becoming more and more usless. As an example, wakeing the phone with the home button takes upto a full two seconds for the unlock screen to open, then another full second for the phone to "think" before it unlocks. This is increadibly slow compaired to the previous versions, and much slower than my old iPhone 1 and my non-updated iPhone 3Gs
    * I use to have a problem where the purple arrow indicated the phone was using location services about 50% of the time and it was the setting time zone feature. I disabled location services for this feature and it fixed the problem. I did not notice an abnormal battery drain with this problem.
    * The keyboard will not hide and/or display at approprate times requireing me to restart the app.
    * Notication sounds, mostly incoming SMS sounds dont play at approprate times or play twice a few seconds apart for the same incoming message
    * Autocorrect is too easily learning misspelled words leading me to reset the keyboard dictionary too frequently
    * Incoming email and SMS messages cause the phone to loudly vibrate while talking on the phone, this is a new problem with ios5. I use to be proud of the iphone for not doing this becasue I talk to people with androids and found the vibration noise very annoying while on the receving end.
My phone is rather clean and I have very few third party apps installed. I use the facebook app, a weather app, and only a few other apps. My storage memory is about half full and thats almost entirly music.
I regualry power cycle and restart my phone, I would say at least once a day.
I have tried to fix the phone by disableing and enableing anything I can find from notifications, location services and icloud and nothing has helped.
I have also tried rebilding the phone, both from a backup, and restored as new. I have taken the phone to an apple store and had them restore it as well, they claim to be able to restore "deeper" than what I can do at home, I assume this is similar to flashing the firmware and not just the software. Doing any kind of restore does seem to help with the speed problem for about 2 days as it slowly gets worse and returns to its ever slow and defective operation.
I have not noticed any problems with my ipad v1 running ios 5.0.1
Two of my freinds complain about a similar experience with ios 5 on the iphone
Does anyone have similar problems or an idea for a fix?

Here's and update on my problems and here are are some screen shots of the types of problems I've been having since the v5.0.1 update. Keep in mind these are native apps and I have tried the rebuild phone crap many times, nothing helps.
This is screen shot of a what happened when I tried to use my camera one day, both the front and back cameras were all black. I had to power cycle the phone to get rid of this problem. The cameras appeared to be working correctly, I could focus and zoom but it was all black.
Here is an image of what happened when I searched for something in a map. This is after I picked the choice I wanted, the keyboard disappeared but the list didn't. I had to force close the app and restart it for this problem to go away. Who knew five bars on ATT was possible.
And finally this is the messaging app, although you would not know it. I had to return to home screen (after a long pause for it to process the button push) and return to the messaging app. This happens all the time with the messaging app and the notifications sounds drive me crazy. If  i'm using the phone, say browsing the web and I get an incoming message its almost 100% of the time the messaging app will screw up. The sound will play at the wrong time or not at all, message will show up in notifications and diasapear in message app or Ill have a problem like this:

  • After upgrading to Lion 10.7.1 - iPhoto and other programs slow to open and other problems

Am I alone - having lots of problems with 10.7.1.  iPhoto is slow and when I export photos it exists iphoto then I restart and sometimes it will works.  Safari is slower also. Sometimes it justs hangs and I have to force quit.  iTunes is also slower to open. Almost everytime it goes to a checking library for a long time.
Should I go back to previous version? Will I lose my purchase. I do not have disks for the upgrade.  I do not want to go back - I have a lot of data and always fear of losing it.
Think Apple knows about the problems or am I the only one and have some other problem?

    olegz,
First, thanks for the clear graphics.
Authorization seems to be the hangup here. But instead of dealing with the complications of conflicts in authorization, which might take several weeks to months to iron out - site by site - I urge you to follow a different path.
It looks like you're using Chrome. For this site alone, use either Safari or Firefox, both of which are more likely to have plugins to deal with authorizing your site. Safari is already on your computer, but v.3 of Firefox is stable, too. Frankly, I can't tell you what specifically might be the problem here; but switching browsers will solve the immediate problem.
Sound good? Not so good? Post in this thread so that I or others can solve your problem once and for all!

  • Clipping sound and other things with Logic X 10.0.6

Hi 2 everyones, I notify all about strange things when run Logic X but not only in my new iMac 27" the same in older Mac Pro mid 2008.
In my Home Studio I use with satisfaction this Mixer with USB 2.0 interface.
In this early 2014 change my iMac 21,5" (late 2009) with iMac 27" core i7. From start using Logic X, after recording audio track sometimes the sound distorce, clip and sometimes not.
I’ve try everything (disconnect USB, reset logic,..) but the problem persist.
And another thing that happen in my iMac and other Mac Pro, when (shift+W) edit the audio file with Soundtrack pro (the first time) try to save and return to logic but STP stall (colored whirl), must use forced escape, than re edit and save normally and come back to Logic.
When change from Logic to STP (and reverse) notify center tell me that I’ve change my midi interface but the strange thing is that I deactivate notification center in Logic….. Can someone tell me more??
PS. I read something in this discussion but confusign me too much
    Thanks

Ok, the first problem was gone when I completely reset PRAM and VRAM.
But the second is still there. When I open Logic x, and then want to edit externally (with STP) the file (SHIFT+W) edit it and then try to save, STP stall, and I must force quit. Then the second time i re-edit externally the file open it in STP edit, save and that's is fine....why?
    Thanks to all forum

  • Screensaver, system sounds and itunes problem

I did all the updates and even used migration assistant so my computer has been through allot already. I do not know which update affected my screen saver and optical audio but my screen saver is having the same issue with two monitors. My VGA monitor displays photos when the screen saver kicks in but my macbook just says looking for pictures. I tried reseting pram, repairing permissions and "safe boot" but nothing works. My optical audio somehow messes with my system sounds and iTunes on first song or podcast played. Sometimes the progress bar will freeze and I can't move it.(the time counter for a track in iTunes). The system sound works off and on when I use optical audio out to my stereo receiver. I talked to apple care and the genius bar and they said I might need to archive and install from the recovery discs that came with my computer. I think if I did that and did all the updates then the problem would return because I think it is a firmware or software update problem and not third party software interacting with the system.

iTunes shouldn't do that. Normally when iTunes finds that it would like to move/rename a file after download or a tag edit, and the filename it wants to use is already in use, it adds a " 1" or " 2" to the end of the filename. It does not overwrite the original file. In fact if it had reused the filename then there would be two entries in your library, which would both have the same information and content. Is this the case? How exactly is the title of the film spelt?
File & folder names are limited to 40 characters in Windows so I would expect (judging by the titles given in the store) to find the movies in a folder called:
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - P
    and to be called
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.m4v and
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallo 1.m4v
Hopefully you have a backup of the missing file as, in principle, you are only allowed to create one copy using the redemption code.

  • Sound and microphone problems.

    Dear members:
After a lot of frustrating attempts to use a microphone with my computers I have finally given up and decided to search for help with this issue.
I have used a earset on three different computers I own (2 Powermacs and 1 Powerbook) but it doesn't pick the sound input from the microphone. I can hear just fine through the earset's speaker but the microphone part doesn't work.
The earset has been used with 2 cell phones I have and I know it's working fine. I have also tried to use 2 Sony microphones I often use with a digital voice recorder during lectures. One is a unidirectional mono microphone and the other is a stereo omnidirectional microphone. Both microphones work just fine with the recorder but on the computers they simply don't show any sound input coming in.
I have gone to the preferences pane, selected sound and chosen line in as the input source. However, unlike my Powerbook's built-in microphone, I can't see the input level bar graph move when I speak into the microphones. In case I do it with the Powerbook's sound input set for the built-in microphone, the input level bar moves to both right and left according to sound level (and the input volume I set). But with the microphones I have tested (3 so far) nothing happens.
The problem can't be related to a hardware problem since I have tested the microphones with 3 different computers and it would be too much of a coincidence to have 3 computers with the same problem. The microphones can't be the problem either since I have tested them and they work fine with other devices.
I have to believe the problem has to do with system configuration and something I am not doing right. I have contacted Apple's technical support but have been extremelly dissapointed by the help I received from a young man who seemed to know less about computers than I do and wasn't very well trained in the art of providing courteous service to consumers.
Any ideas here ? This is frustrating me to the extreme as this should be a fairly simple thing to do that has now become a nightmare.
Thanks in advance for your help and suggestions.
    Best regards,

Apple's sound input and output ports are separate on their machines. Not all Macs have a sound input port. If the headset only has one audio jack, you won't be able to use the sound in on it unless you somehow separate the sound input to its own cable.
Please identify your Macs in more detail using the links I've provided here:
    http://www.macmaps.com/macosxnative.html#IDENTIFY
The Specifications link on the toolbar at the top of the Discussions board will get you the sound port configuration of your specific Mac. If there is no sound input port on your Mac, you may need to use a Griffin iMic to hook up the audio input cable. Check your Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Sound -> Input to be sure that the microphone is detected.
Not always will you get an Apple support representative on the phone who doesn't know what they are doing. Most of the time they are quite knowledgeable. If you get one who doesn't ask them to let you speak to someone else who is more of an expert on the issue.

  • Registration requests and other problems with LE 8.0.2 upgrade from 7.2.3

Great upgrade. Improved sound, look and features, but:
    1. When I switch between Logic Express 7 and 8, I'm forced to register each version again & again.
    2. If LE 8 is left open when I put my computer to sleep, it won't recognize an iControl at wake up. After deleting the device from the surface controller set-up, rescanning it & resetting midi drivers, the play button won't work. It took until OS X 10.4.9 for Apple to get the iControl to work in LE 7.2.
    3. The instrument plug-in window doesn't come up after selecting a software instrument even with the box checked in preferences.
    3. If you've used a lot of preset voices in LE 7, the upgrade will require a lot of reprogramming. Tones like Jangly Jack are gone completely. Some missing LE 7 voices like the Ubiquitous DX can be imported into version 8 and saved as a channel strip setting. Logic 8 & GarageBand 3 lack a good DX7.
    4. The word Strings is misspelled in the channel strip setting window.
    5. Some LE 7 keyboard commands are no longer available in LE 8. For example, at certain times, you could move around an environment window in LE 7 with shift-plus and shift-minus keys. There was no way to program that in LE 7 either.

    Hi Robby
I don't know if you solved your 'register now' problem concerning LE7 & LE8. I suspect the error your making is trying to open up each project in it's initial program - i.e. 7 or 8. The computer sees it differently (concerning Library settings etc) and your problem will be solved (hopefully) if you open up things in the right order :
    1° Open Logic EX 8.
2° Then open the old project from LE 7. This should then open in your new system of LE8.
Of course if you wish to keep working on LE7 projects in LE7 then you'll have to change between each system as you go. You should remember that in terms of programs (with the same 'name/directory') that a computer works much like a tightly packed garage - if you wish to get out your old bike you'll have to move the new one first and vice versa!!
Normally you won't be asked to register again, BUT ... remember that you have to decide if you're going to save in 8 (and so keep working in that format) or not and I imagine if you've bought an update this is certainly your idea. Of course if you now decide to close LE8 and then start clicking on files in LE7 you'll be back at square one ..... register now etc. Please also remember that LE7 projects can work in LE8 but not the other way round, so once you've opened a LE7 project and made adjustments using LE8 you can't reuse 7 - I suggest you back up all your LE7 first on external/DVD support for later/backwards adjustments or reference.
Another small point to remember is that your computer will now be saving your project a second time in a LE8 format. So at some point you should remember that you'll be using valuable HD space twice over if you just convert and save in the new format - if you see what I mean?!

  • Stream 8 update frozen (and other problems)

    Hello All,
I got a Stream 8 for my wife for Christmas, set it up for her and updated with windows update on Dec 15th 2014.  After Christmas, the tablet seemed to be working for her, but then became really laggy...
    Problem #1
Windows Update screen will not open, and when I try to access it from the control panel the window becomes frozen.  I have left it on this screen plugged in over night, twice, hoping that it was simply a large update that would rectify itself if given enough time.
I was hoping to turn off automatic windows update to stall any automatic update while I attempted HP software updates
    That Failed.
    Problem #2
I attempted to Download the HP Stream 8 BIOS update after I went onto the HP site and downlaoded the HP install program.  That also got stuck at 0% overnight.
Failed to downlaod anything, so I closed the program and restarted
    Problem #3
Windows Store Fails to load - just keeps spinning
    Problem #4
Sound is terrible - tinny and digitized on 50% volume.  Speakers sound broken.
Any recomendations for attempting to fix the windows update issue?
I bought this Stream 8 tablet from the Windows Store , and it seemed to work for ~3 days...  I want my wife to be able to use this as a home tablet and travel computer that has much greater functionality for work than my Nexus 7.
    Thanks for any guidance!

  • Sound and Mouse Problem on Toshiba Satellite A505 S6005 - Related?

    Hello-
I bought my A505 back at the end of April and have had these two annoying problems that I have been trying to solve for about three plus months now.  The first started right out of the box as it were and it involves the sound "burping" at me periodically.  It's a hard sound to describe.  It's kind of like a digital croak or a stutter all rolled into one.  It now likes to do this exactly at midnight every night, when the CPU usage will spike, but I can't find anything running at that time (I don't have any virus scans, defrags, etc. set for that time).  High CPU usage normally doesn't cause this anyway - I'll be running how many programs and the sound will be fine.
My other problem is a recent one and that is that the mouse pointer will periodically just hang up for a few seconds every so often.  It's not a battery problem (I use a wireless Logitech) seeing as I keep it well fed and I tried using a wired mouse and got the same hang up.
Are these two problems related?  I've tried to find information on this but haven't found anything useful to me.  I've tried turning down the fancy settings on my Windows, turning of my webcam and microphone, everything.
I would greatly appreciate any help, thanks!

  • Sound and video problems?

ok here is the deal, i got all the latest drivers for my system.
    i got the
    MSI 875P NEO LSR mainboard
    p4 3 ghz with HT
    with 1024mb ram
    160 gb s-ata
    geforce fx 5600 XT/256 mb
    soundblaster live 5.1 sound
when i play heavy games like HALO or Need for speed my sounds and video works not correct BUT it should not be a problem because my amd 1800+ with gforce ti 4200 did better
i think it's the mainboard but does ANYONE has an solution or the same problem?
o yeah my system reboots sometimes when i put new hardware on it (had it with my USB modem 4 ADSL)

This sounds like it is your PSU giving troubles. What wattage is your PSU, and what are the 3.3v, 5v and 12v ratings on the PSU? (You can find out this info on the sticker that is attached to the PSU)

  • Sound and connection problems

    Hello.
I own a Ipod Touch 16gb, purchased January last year (i believe it's 2nd gen).
The iPod had worked fine for almost a year until the problems started, at first it would just freeze in 30min-1hour, and then work fine again. But in January (2010) the problems got serious. It started with that the iPod would play sounds and being very slow when trying to play. The only sound there came out of it (both speaker and headphones) where scratching sounds in a very low volume. To hopefully solve the problems i connected the iPod to my Windows computer (which it's syncronized with). The computer reconised that a USB item was connected (the "dong" sound) but iTunes didn't.
Therefor i choose the reset the iPod completeley and delete everything on it.
This worked until now, where the problems has occured again.
The first time the iPod showed problems in January (2010) it was send to Apple, where it was checked for flaws (both hardware and software), but nothing was found.
Currentley im reseting the iPod once again in hope of getting it normal, but im afraid it will happend again.
Any ideas of what the problem is, and how it could be solved?.
    Kind Regards

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you’re running into a Bluetooth connection issue since upgrading your iPhone 5 to iOS 8.1. The interoperability of devices manufactured by different companies can sometimes be frustrating. Try taking a look at the two articles below, they will resolve most issues like the one you described.
