Sound and vibration colormap to measurement file

Evening,
Still pretty new to the both labview and the sound and vibration suite so probably a basic question on data types i cant get my head round.
I want to the data from a colormap to a tdms file for future analysis but cat get the correct type of data for the measurement file function
Essenstially i've used used the 3rd order function for a while when writing motor gearbox specifications, so not just sound pressure level but also type of noise (eg happy baby at 60dB vs screaming baby at 60dB)
I want to go a step further and see how these values change over short periods of time hence colormap but cant seem to be able to record the data.
I've attached a very basic vi of what i want to do and left the 'bad data type wire' in to show what i want to achive.  i've searched extensively all the normal places but been unable to find any discussions or examples close.
Any help would be greatfully
Received
Martin

Hello Mjm1968,
When you hover over the broken wire with Context Help on (Ctrl-H), you can see that it's a bundle of multiple data types.  Right click on the broken wire, and you can go to Cluster, Class, & Variant Palatte » Unbundle By Name.  Attach the left side of that node to the wire, and you can break out all of the components of the signal, which you can feed to a Build Array node (as necessary), and then into a Write to Measurement File VI.  If that slows down your loop too much, we can look into some other options, but that may be the simplest solution to writing to a TDMS file.

  • Sound and Vibration Suite - Leq Measurement?

    Hello,
I am new to Sound and Vibration Suite and can't seem to find how to measure Leq. To clarify, I do not have LabView with this package, just the S&V Suite 2010. Currently the only options are Linear, Exponential, Peak and Equal Confidence (all found under the SPL Octave Analysis step).
Do I need LabView to perform an Leq or Running Leq measurement???

    Hello,
The LEQ analysis can be found under analysis. Have a look at the following screenshot.

  • Need help with problem using sound and vibration examples. question repost

I am generating a wav file using the sound and vibration example vi "SVXMPL_Wav Recorder(DAQmx)" using a ni 7422 board.  Then, using the example vi SVXMPL_Getting started with SVT(Simulated)" attempting to play back that file.  the wav file will load and play back on the graphs fine but when I click the "Play Wav File" which sends the audio to the computers speaker,  I get the error "Cannot recognise sound Format".  It plays the shipped example files fine.  I can also play the wav files I generate on a Windows audio player.  Don't know a lot about the sound and vibration toolkit or wav file formats but need to get these two to work together.  Using LV 8.5 and sound and vibration toolkit 4.0.  This is a bit of a repost of the same question ask last week but not answered.  Thanks

  • Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite with PC Sound card?

    Hi all,
I'm new to LabVIEW, so please bear with me.
I would like to take some basic network measurements of a single channel hardware audio device. I have a PCI sound card which I was able to play sound files and receive input with using the sound2 Simultaneous_Sound_IO.vi. I'm wondering if it's possible and how difficult it would be to integrate this VI with the VIs associated with the Sound and Vibration Measurement Suite? I've downloaded the trial version of the Measurement Suite and it appears to include all of the measurements I need (frequency response, THD, dynamic range), however they're all designed to work with NI DAQ hardware.
If it is possible, could someone point me in the right direction as far as integrating the two, or even post or direct me towards existing VIs if there are any?
    Thanks so much

Which S&V vi's do you mean to be dedicated to NI hardware?
A quick peek into the addon show me waveforms as input and the sound vis have a waveform output.
OK I didn't look at the examples and by habbit ignore the express vis .   But maybe you just want to use a program instead of programming your application?

  • Where is the asper measurement in Sound and Vibration assistant

I did a test drive of the Sound and Vibration Suite, liked what it could do, but could only afford the Toolkiit. Now I can't find the Asper (Roughness) measurement in the Toolkit. Is it there? I found the Loudness, Sharpness, etc.

    Hi elrathia,
I think you are looking for the Sound and Vibration » Sound Quality » SV Aures Roughness function.  It should be included with the toolkit.

  • How can I read in a TDMS file into Sound and Vibration Assistant

I have recorded a signal from 2 channels from a PXI 4496 DAQ card. I recorded this signal with the TDMS file format from a VI in Labview. I would like to import these signals into the Sound and Vibration Assistant for freq. analysis. In sound and vibration assistant there is an import logged tdms from signal express but I can not seem to import my original signal?  How can I import this data?

    Hello All,
I am trying to read TDMS file using LABVIEW. The TDMS file is created by me for reading data from one wire devices.
I have created simple vi. attached below which read data from TDMS file. I am able to read other tdms files, I have with this program but not which one created by me. I am not able to attach file with .tdms exentiont. So I have attached it with .xlsx extention. Can anyone please guide me where is the problem in TDMS file? Am I missing anything while creating it?
    Thanks

  • How can i measure the speed of the fan in sound and vibration signal simulator box

how can i measure the speed of the fan in sound and vibration signal simulator box
provided the values  tach out:2 pulses/revolution and  maximum speed = 6000rpm

Hi. I tried your suggestion and I could not get it to work well. In
fact it worked better without the running average (which suprised me).
I also played with the number of data points but still could not get it
    to work well.
Do you have any other suggestions on how I could sort this problem out?
    I
have attached a screen shot of the signal. To recap, I'm trying to
measure the'y' position of the flat regions of the signal. The signal
does not have a constant level, so this 'y' position varies with time
    in a non-unform manner.
    I am currently differentiating
the signal and selecting the y position when the differential is equal
to zero (within a tolerance band).
    In the screenshot, the
signal has been zeroed using the method I have described above.
However, it occasionally has glitches which may be caused when the code
picks up a zero gradient at a peak or valley in the signal.
I therefore need some kind of algorithm that only measures the position of the flat regions.
    Many thanks
     John

  • Sound and Vibration Toolkit

We have LabView 7.1 and the latest Sound and Vibration Toolkit. I am interested in finding the natural frequency of metalic parts AND entire mechanical assemblies. To obtain the natural frequency, we have purchased an accelerometer and impulse hammer to perform bump testing. From the reading I've done, I believe I should use the FRF functions from the S&V toolkit. Can someone confirm this or direct me to the proper method?
    thanks for your help

    Hi WantToGolf,
Sounds like you're on your way!
Cable the output of the impulse hammer to analog input 0 and the output of the accelerometer connected to your device under test (DUT) to analog input 1. The frequency response functions (FRFs) included with the Sound and Vibration Toolkit are the methods you'll use to find the natural frequency of the DUT.
I would recommend using Baseband Frequency Response (DAQmx - No excitation).vi, located at:
    C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 7.1\examples\Sound and Vibration\Frequency Analysis\Dual Channel Analysis\SVXMPL_Baseband FRF (DAQmx - no excitation).vi
This VI continuously acquires data from two channels in the same device. No source is provided from the DAQ board, as you will be providing one from the impulse hammer. Triggering from either channel is supported.
The data from each channel is scaled to engineering units, windowed, and the frequency response is computed. The results of the frequency response measurement can be displayed on a Bode plot or a Nyquist plot. The coherence is also graphed to evaluate the validity of the measured frequency response.
You could then use the frequency response to determine the natural frequency of the DUT. Let me know if you have further questions or if this does not resolve your issue!

  • How can i use modal analysis in labview and Sound and Vibration toolset in my structural studies.

I am working on structural analysis of buildings during earthqauke.I ahve NI 4472, labView, sound and vibration toolset. Now i also want to carry out Modal Analysis. Where can i find thisin NI software.

There are third party software packages that support modal analysis. These include IDEAS from MTS, Smart Office from m+p, and ME Scope. You can use LabVIEW to save a file or export the data directly via Active-X. If you have some specific functions that you would like to see implemented in LabVIEW, drop a note to one of our developers, Hui Shao or myselfat : [email protected] on what you would like to see.

  • Missing Sound and Vibration VI's?

Looking through all the examples in the Sound and Vibration Toolkit, and go to load the SVXMPL_Sound Level Meter (DAQmx).vi and it tells me there are several files that could not be found.  They are:
    SoundVib_Octave.lvlib
    SoundVib_ABCWeighting.lvlib
    SoundVib_SoundLevel.lvlib
Further investigation looks like they're part of another "Audio" toolkit?  How is this not part of the SV Toolkit?

  • The problem of sound and vibration assitant wiht labview 8.6

when importing lavview vis into the sound and vibration assistant,  i got the error as follows:
LabVIEW:  The software installed on this computer does not support the file format you requested. The Storage VIs access files through plug-in libraries LabVIEW and DIAdem install. Visit ni.com to download the library you need.
    how can i solve it?

Can you please describe the procedure you are following to reproduce this error?
File>>Import can be used to import snapshots from other projects or logs from other projects or (*.tdms) files.
The 'Run LabVIEW 8.6 VI' Step can be used to run LabVIEW VIs from the Sound and Vibration Assistant. Consult the help as there are a number of steps that must be followed to use this feature.
Does your VI perform file I/O? What versions of Sound and Vibration Assistant are you using? Can you post your project and built LabVIEW VI?

  • Sound and Vibration toolkit 3.1

    Hi
I acquired 2-channel Acceleration data using NI PCI/PXI 4472 along with Labview DAQ Assistant. I received tdms files and converted them in excel files.
Now I need to carry out spectral analysis of data. I am using Labview 8.6 and am also provided with Sound and vibration toolkit 3.1.
I want final output in the form of a waterfall diagram that I can include in my thesis. I tried using excel data in Matlab but no luck.
I know basic use of Labview but completely new to SVT 3.1.
Can anyone please help me in explaining the basics of using waterfall display Palette in SVT 3.1 along with excel data?
    Thanks.

    Thanks Jared,
I tried searching for examples and found SVXMPL_Waterfall Display (Simulated). I guess that is the one you are referring to.
I tried to run that one but it ended with Error 1445.
I went through another thread on error 1445 (http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW/SVT-3-1-LabView-8-Error-1445/m-p/310575/highlight/true#M161064) and the referred knowledge base (http://zone.ni.com/reference/en-XX/help/371361G-01/glang/open_vi_reference/) but could not get how to correct the error. I am attaching the screent shot of the VI.
It would really be of great help if I can get an idea on how to solve error 1445 for this VI.

  • Sound and Vibration toolkit for vibration analysis

Hi guys! I am new to Labview. I am trying to use Sound and Vibration toolkit to analyse the accelerometer signal mounted on a motor through myRio. The analysis are spectral map, order tracking, power spectrum, order spectrum etc. But nothing can be seen from the output graph. The only result I get is from vibration level.
Attached is a screen shot of my vi and actual vi file. Am I doing it correctly? I really need your help guys....

    SK,
You have serious problems in your File.VI.  Why are your writing to your file and then reading it right back?  Worse, there is no guarantee that the File write will actually occur before the File Read.  You have a race condition set up there between those two Spreadsheet File VI's.
If you want to maintain a history of whatever has already been written to the file, you should be building it into an array and storing in a shift register.  Even if your File.vi would by chance work the way you want it to, storing data in the file system is much slower than maintaining your data in memory.
As for your while loop, it is going to run as fast as it can with respect to all the functions occurring inside of it.  Is it possible you are getting 14 iterations of that while loop for each frequency step that is occurring?

  • Sound and vibration Toolkit 7.1 on Labview 8.0

    Hello!
I kind of expect the answer is to cash out for a toolbox upgrade, but nevertheless I will ask the very logical question:
When I have an old Sound and Vibration Toolbox, how can I use it on a newer LabView Installation?
I could install, but when opening some of the example VI(SVXMPL_Averaged Frequency Response (DAQmx).vi), they do not work. The sub-VI's (e.g. svx_ClearAO_ClearAI (DAQmx).vi) have broken connections and even a mass compile didn't help. After the mass compile I have a long log of errors. So has anyone been successful in doing this without buying the newer version of the toolbox?

    Hi
Let me double check the version of Sound and Vibration toolkit you installed
as the latest Sound and Vibration toolkit is version 6.0.
This information is in Measurement & Automation Explorer(MAX)
if you go to MySystem >> Software >> LabVIEW >> Sound and Vibration Analysis VIs.
As well as this, please let us know the version of your DAQmx driver.
It sounds many DAQmx VIs are broken and your DAQmx might not be a compatible version of the toolkit.
    Regards,
    Ayumi
