Sound and video out of synch in DVD final

My iMovie plays fine and also does in iDVD previews. However, when it burns the audio is either out of synch or (in another test) not there at all. I have no error messages; am close to capacity but not over; have latest Quicktime 7.013.
Am using a dual 1.8 Ghz G5. What are some things I might try in order to fix this? Thanks!

does 12bit always slide?
Most of the time 12 bit audio will eventually go out of sync with the video within 15 to 20 minutes of playback on a finished DVD. And yes it is noticeable.
I don't have the patience to bring it all back in and out to make it 16 bit if that's the only hope.
That is the only hope. It requires extensive work to bring it back into sync. And I'm sure if you search this forum you will find the correct procedure for this work around should you eventually decide to rework the audio.
Hope this serves to answer your questions.

  • Audio and video out of synch on export

    Hi,
I've searched the forum for this. I have a movie in FCE 4 in which the audio and video are in synch in the time line. The audio was recorded into Logic at 96, noodled, passed into FCE at 48 and then had to be lined up with the video. Then when I go to export, the resulting QT movie is out of synch, the audio now about one second before the video. I'm using QT conversion. My compresson is H.264, quality best, frame rate 30, multi-pass, 640 x 480, format AAC or linear PCM, various sample rates, stereo and mono etc. I've tried various other settings for export, but the problem remains.
What am I doing wrong? Many thanks for any help,
    Ray

    Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I think you're on the right track. I want the best sound possible, so I record into Logic, knowing I'm going into FCE I record at 96 so an even multiple down to 48. I think a .wav file though, and maybe that's the problem. Into FCE, but other audio there as well from the camera mic, and which I occasionally include in the sound track for ambience. All of this noodled a fair amount and then exported, the intent being to end up in 44, as it will be uploaded to youtube. I switch to 16 bit out of Logic, but the aiff vs wav may be the problem. Do think there might be a better way to do this?

  • Audio and video out of synch

Can anyone help. I have just purchased fce4 and already feel way out of my depth. When I captured my footage I get a warning saying that audio and video may be out of synch. Fair enough but there is no advice on how to fix this. Is it something to do with frame rates. My camera is DV Pal. How do I change the settings assuming this is the problem.

Go to Final Cut Express>Easy Setup. You're probably set up for DV-PAL. Change to DV-PAL 32kHz and see if that helps.
I'd encourage you to get a reference book. Tom Wolsky, frequent contributor to this forum, has an excellent one: Final Cut Express Editing Workshop. Diana Weynand has written another one: Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Express.

  • Sound and video out of sync????

Ok...... My purchased videos, film or music, during playback are out of sync. They start ok but the picture jumps and then plays out of sync and this becomes progressively worse. I have removed all apple software and reloaded and this has worked in the past but it will not cooperate now.
This is driving me mad. What's worse is if I use quick time then there is no problem at all but as soon as I launch a film in iTunes ......aaaarrrrgggghhhhh!
It may or may not be related but whilst playing music with full screen visualiser I get a random unexpected computer shut down for no apparent reason.
Please, somebody help before I launch the laptop window-wise.

My standard list of things to do first for these wierd sort of problems, but I also tend to run these before I go to burn an iDVD project just to be safe. Keep in mind this list represents the programs I tend to use. There are several alternate programs that do the same things with some combining the functions of some of the ones below. So everyone has their favorites, but here are mine...
Run MacJanitor (free download) to do all the Unix Cron Maintenance scripts.
Run Disk Utility (Applications -> Utilities) and repair disk permissions on your start up drive (typically your internal drive). Also verify any other drives mounted on the system, especially any external drives that you use for iMovie and iDVD projects.
Run Preferential Treatment (free download) to check for corrupt/damaged application and system preference files.
Run Cache Out X (free download) to clear all system and application caches.
Reboot your Mac (after running Cache Out X you are given the option to restart the machine).
If you still can not get it to run correctly, next thing to try is to throw out the iMovie preference file (don't forget to change back those preferences you want different from the defaults next time you run it). If it still doesn't work, then I would suggest you reinstall iMovie.

  • Itunes audio and video out of synch on PC

I downloaded TV shows, but the sound is not in synch with the video when watching the show on the PC.

I have the same problem. Has anyone gotten an answer yet?

  • Audio and video out of synch on TV

I've connected my Lenovo to my Sony Bravia TV using seperate VGA and audio cables. However, lip synch is lost. Does anyone have a solution?
Incidentally, I used separate cables, having failed to get any audio with a VGA cable. I take there is no audio output appearing  on the Lenovo's VGA connector.

...or any any VGA connector, the spec doesn't include audio AFAIK.
Your bets bet, if it supports it, is to configure the delay settings on your TV for the VGA port. Many TVs will allow you to compensate for the lag by either delaying the video or the audio slightly.

My Mac Pro is not displaying any images for videos or games, it is showing sound and working but nothing else. DVD player is also coming up with an error. I'm not sure why neither is working, it just suddenly happened. I have done nothing different.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • URGENT- DOING MEMORIAL VIDEO sound and video are off when sent to iDVD

I watch the video in iMovie and the sound and video are in sync. When I send to iDVD, the two are no longer in sync. I have made changes to the iMovie project since my last DVD burn. With the initial burn, there were no sound issues.
I've tried all of the following:
    1. closing and reopening iMovie and iDVD
    2. resending from iMovie to iDVD
    3. readding the clip and removing the original clip from the iMovie project
    4. restarting my computer
The only things I have not done are the following:
    1. redownloading the original video clip from my camcorder
    2. recreating the project
    3. trying a different project to see if that one has the same audio/video issue (this will be my next step)
#2 above is literally so intense as I have a lot of editing on this. To make it clear to you, I have video footage of a memorial.... and after the memorial I chose little 20-30 second clips here and there. I don't have audio with those clips -- just iTunes music overlay.... so, those I don't need to worry about sound coinciding.... just the 30 minute clip that is the actual memorial service.
This is time sensitive.... it is a memorial video and I don't have time to redo the thing from the beginning, especially considering how long it took me to find those 20-30 second clips of the post-memorial.
    Please help!

Yes... I had seen that.... and, yep, have the latest software.... and even rebooted my machine thinking that maybe it hadn't been restarted since the update (can't remember how long ago the update was).
I did a test run with a mobile size (it takes over an hour when I share with iDVD, which has been annoying with all my attempts to "fixing") file sharing with media browser and still the sound was not matched.
I started another project alltogether in iMovie and it does not have the sound issue when sent to iDVD....
I can copy and paste the more difficult editing I did between the "bad original copy" and my "do-over"... but, it seems to not copy exact length of each clip (it decreased it by a second each clip on the ones I copied over but that is weird since it did copy over the slowed % I had on the original) ..... see the more complex editing I have has the sound silenced and I have music overlay on that....
I have many more to go... and can't copy text directly from one project to another... in fact, there is a lot you can't just copy over.... I have to redo the music, special effects etc. This is not going to be a walk in the park if I can't find a way to make my "bad original copy" work.
Still looking for more suggestions (than to start all over), but will have to start over if I spend too much time making the one I have work.... then it becomes more sensical to just start over. I have quite a bit of time in the original, but if I can copy and paste the clips, that takes a majority of the work out.... but, if any of my copy and pastes somehow "corrupt" the sound sync on the portion that isn't silenced and music overlaid, then, there is a lot of work having to recreate all my edits from scratch.

  • Can a MacBook (Early 2008) Support both sound and video to 1080p HDTV by Mini-DVI to HDMI cable?

Can a MacBook (Early 2008) Support both sound and video to 1080p HDTV by Mini-DVI to HDMI cable?

The mini dvi on the MacBook will only support video, in order to get audio you'll need to a cable from the sound out port to the sound in port on the TV.

  • How do you get sound and video from a macbook pro (before 2010) onto a 2010 toshiba 40" tv?

Any help on connecting a macbook pro (late 2009) to a 2010 toshiba 40" for both sound and video?  I have the mini-hdmi cable, but have no idea about running sound through the tv.  I can use the headphone jack, but don't know where to connect it to on the back of the tv.  Am I supposed to change any settings on the tv or computer to allow the sound to go through the tv?  thanks for any help.

You need a stereo mini to RCA break out cable.

  • VOICE AND VIDEO OUT OF SYNC

HEY, i made a huge imovie project.. and the sound and video is out of sync, the sound comes seconds before the video... HELPP!

I must say I am still astonished how much this is a problem in general. I saw Seinfeld on TV once with the lips still moving for about a second after the voice stopped. I'm talking about cable TV, here! And there are the videos on You Tube. A lot of them are out of sync too.
Synchronizing sound and picture was initially a difficult problem, but the movie industry pretty much solved this c. 1930. And now, EIGHT DECADES LATER, suddenly it's a big problem again.
Yes, for this and other reasons, the world will end in 2012. (^_^)

  • [Python pygame] Graphic equalizer - keeping sound and video in sync

    Hi!
I'm writing a graphic equalizer in python and I want to use pygame for the video and audio output.
The video display of the moving bars works great, now that I have a correct way to read samples and decode them.
The problem now is: they're way out of sync with the audio playing in the background!
At the moment my code, that draws the bars basically looks like this:
    # loop as long as we can get slice of the audio file for the fft
    for n_frame in range(0, len(framebuffer), fftframesz):
    clock.tick_busy_loop(t_loop)
    # t_loop was defined as fftframesz over total_frame_count
    # which means in words: t_loop is the amount of FFTs per second - or the cycles of THIS loop
    # grab the frames and perform the fft here
    ...numpy.fft.fft...
    # set the new bar heights and draw them
    for bar in bars:
    bar.update()
    # if playback has not started yet, make it so
    if not pygame.mixer.get_busy():
    musicfile.play()
The way I'm thinking, this should be enough to keep sound and video in sync. Because we know the time that one cycle should take at most,
we can set the clock to tick_busy_loop this time. This way we make sure that the video is not faster than the sound.
But to me it seems that is is the other way round, i.e. that the video is slower than the sound. I already did some timing, but to no avail.
Is there perhaps a more easy, more elegant way to make sure that image and audio are in sync?
    Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks for your ideas. I assume you mean I should go with a $1200.00 final cut pro software. NOT.
Sure the video will be on myspace and youtube but wether they are noticed or not is not as important as self satisfaction. I can easily split scenes into equal time zones as I said. Then drag them into clips and back all using the same camcorder. Multiple cameras and angles would be nice but this can be done on a low budget and still look good. I guess my original questions were not answered. Is there a way to determine the length of a transition and shorten the clip by that amount. Or the length of a still shot and do the same. Or perhaps they have been answered and the answer is NO WAY, and I am just not hearing it.
I suppose reimporting a video would be great if I could use two timelines like in audio and then blank out what I don't want in the first. But I just don't think this is possible, or is it. I've been reading iMovie HD6 The Manual that should have been in the box. It's a help but doesn't take you from the beginning of a project to the final project. Exporting to imovie or idvd is not an issue. BTW I got the clips in sync as I said by leaving blank spots and placing effects over them. I could insert the proper length video in those spots but that can look silly without transitions. But then again so can transitions. This stuff is very fun and interesting and a great learning experience. If I stop now as you suggest then I am not pushing myself to the limit. But thanks for your reply.

  • Sound and video are choppy since installing Flash Player 11.3

I'm having a problem here!  Since I updated Adobe Flash Player 11.3, the audio and video are all choppy when I play Adobe Flash game apps in Facebook!  Even when I disabled hardware acceleration, the sound and video are STILL choppy!  Even I watch a YouTube video and the sound and video are a bit choppy!  There's DEFINITELY some sound issues in Flash Player 11.3!  I'm using Firefox 13 in Windows XP SP3.  I'm wondering if you have any answers for the sound issues in FP 11.3.

I went through an annoying password reset process to post on here, haha, I was experiencing this issue and managed to resolve it for a flash animation I was making that was going to be sent out; thus fixing it for myself wouldn't change things for others. I know this is old, but if anyone is in this position, I hope it helps.
I was using Swish Max for my scenario.
Under the Export Settings, I found that by default it was using SWF Version: SWF8 - when it had the option to go up to SWF10. I changed it to 10, and set the hardware acceleration to Level 1 - Direct.
I exported, and it still didn't work. The music was choppy as heck and terribly inconsistent with speed. I even created a preloader, which appeared to work but didn't resolve my issue.
FINALLY, I kept it at version 10, and found that it had an option that said "Preload Content: Disabled." I set that to "At Preload Frame" and though I had a loading animation setup to do the preloading, I still placed a preloadcontent keyframe at frame 1. Then I set Hardware acceleration to Level 2-GPU and exported.
IT WORKED. The terrible, seemingly non-fixable audio cracking lag was gone and it worked flawlessly.
Hope this helps someone, I originally found this when I was trying to find a fix for the issue.

  • The sound and video become unsynchronized when the off-line recording was created.

    Hello,
I recorded a 1.30 hour meeting by using Adobe Connect. I want to edit the file and split in small time. So I save the recording in local by clicking "Make Offline". When I play back the file from local, the sound and video become unsynchronized.
Any idea and how to sort it out.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nicho

As I recall, there is an issue with Windows 8 and the offline recording function. Not sure if you are using Windows 8, but it may be worth trying to do it on another computer.
However, before you go down that road, know that the FLV versions of the meeting recordings are notoriously difficult to edit. If you don't need to have the recordings in a different format, I would recommend that you do the following instead (will be much faster overall).
Take the URL for your meeting recording and add /output/YourNameHere.zip?download=zip. You can name the zip file whatever you want. This will pull the recording source files down to your local computer. Next, browse to a desired location in your Content library in Connect and re-upload that zip file. You can name it whatever you want, and even create a custom URL for it. Once it is uploaded you will have a second version of the same recording on your server. Just re-upload that zip file as many times as needed. You can then edit each version of the recording separately, allowing you to create as many versions of the recording as needed.

  • Fixing sound on video out

Hey, I'm using a video-out cable and a mini-jack-to-RCA cable to run sound and video from my MBP to my television. The picture works fine, but the audio track is a little wonky... Soundtracks and sound effects are a bit too loud and speaking parts are a bit too quiet. This isn't a problem when I'm watching on the MBP not run to my TV (either on the laptop speakers or on headphones).
I think the problem is that there some sort of automatic detection that thinks because the minijack is running to the RCA inputs for audio that I'm using headphones and need some sort of sound optimization.
I'm using the VLC media player. Does anyone have any experience with this issue?
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, running that doesn't seem to do anything. The only selectable output options are "basic audio output" and they can't be configured. I read the help file, which suggests installing software that came with the device... But the device is a TV. A standard, regular type TV.
