Sound bar disappeared after updating my 2nd gen iPod.

I recently updated my iPod touch with the new software as suggested by my iTunes. The problem that I am having now is that my iPod does not have any sound when not plugged into a headset. I have sound when a headset is plugged in, but when I unplug it, the sound bar disappears. I know that the speakers work because I set an alarm and that went off without a problem.
Is there any way that I can get my iPod to recognize my speakers again? I have restarted and also reset my iPod, but so far nothing has worked. I even tried disabling the Bluetooth, but there is still no sound. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you

make sure you load only compatible apps on the device. Most apps on the AppStore requires at least 4.3.x or even 5.0 to work.
Use you backup copies of older versions instead of downloading from AppStore, which will always load the newest apps that might be incompatible. OS 4.2 is very old and outdated.

  • TS1702 Sound bar disappears after about 5-10 seconds after restarting/resetting on iPad

Should clarify -it is on the iPad that the sound bar disappears. Comes back only for a few seconds after resetting, then goes away again.

Try these things and see if they help.
Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered.
Try closing all of the apps in the recents tray as well in the event that one of the apps is causing some weird conflict that is causing this. Tap and hold down on an icon until it wiggles, then tap the minus sign in the corner of the icon. Close all apps, keep swiping to get to all of them. Restart the iPad and then see if the sound bar comes back and stays there.

I'm trying to update my 2nd generation ipod touch to ios 4.2.1 so I can get some games and stuff for my daughter. I saw on apple suppport that it was available in the itunes store, but cannot find it. Any ideas or help?

Update it from iTunes on a computer as described at the bottom of this article; devices running an iOS version prior to 5.0 can't be updated straight from the device.

Are you sure that you have a 2G iPod? Check here:
Apple - Support - Check Your Service and Support Coverage

I suspect you have a 1G iPod. Those can only go to 3.1.3. You can get that here:
Purchasing iOS 3.1 Software Update for iPod touch (1st generation)

I just wan't my ipod updated to the new firmware so I can download newer apps.
    Please help.
    Thank you

Thank you. I will have to try that next time. I was able to finally get it to work by downloading the update seperatly to my computer. In iTunes before clicking the update button I held down the shift key and it let me choose my previously downloaded file. That finally worked instead of letting iTunes download it then error out ?? Oh well it works now. Thanks again for the tip, I really appreciate your response.

No, if you have that picture it means the update went wrong and you need to restore via iTunes.

  • Folders disappear after updating all apps

Spend all this time organizing apps in folders, then as soon as I "update all apps" the folders disappear and the apps are in alphebetical order again. This has happened several times. Also some of the apps will be gone because there are too many to fit without folders. What good is the folder feature if they won't stay there? Anyone know if I'm doing something wrong or if this is a bug with i0S4? I have a 2nd gen. Ipod touch. The folder feature is supposed to work with it.

    Painthead--
I have a 2nd Gen iPod touch. The folders feature does work with it; I've had no issues...yet.
Try this: once you have moved apps into folders--before doing the update all apps--let the iPod synch. You then should be able to update apps to your hearts content, because both the iPod and iTunes understand your folders.

  • After updating iOS on my iPod touch 4th gen my Philips speaker dock DC290B/37 no longer charges the iPod.  It will play music but not charge, is there anyway to find out if Apple is working on an update/fix?

after updating iOS on my iPod touch 4th gen my Philips speaker dock DC290B/37 no longer charges the iPod.  It will play music but not charge, is there anyway to find out if Apple is working on an update/fix?

    Try:
    - Reset the dock
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
Otherwise you are out of luck. Apple is not making any more update for the 4G.
Also check with Phillips. Maybe they have an firmware update available

    Here comes the/my solution:
    Remove Sophos Antivirus
    Thanks to boojum's remarks in https://discussions.apple.com/message/15480849#15480849 !
    Don't forget to use Sophos' deinstall package: /Macintosh HD/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus/Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.pkg
Nevertheless, some settings have been re-initialized (no complete list!):
    - Dock
    - Language has been reset to English only
    - Expose & Spaces
    (- probably all personal settings?)

  • How to update 2nd gen ipod to install apps?

how do i update 2nd gen ipod to install apps? i have no clue what operating sys this is or where to find it. the version is 4.2.1 if that means anything.
i just got it for my son & he wants to be able to text me w/ this device. any help is appreciated

To more easily find compatible apps:
iOSSearch - search the iTunes store for compatible apps.
Apple Club - filter apps by iOS version.
Starting when iOS 7 was released, Apple now allows downloading the last compatible version of some apps (iOS 4.2.1 and later only)
App Store: Downloading Older Versions of Apps on iOS - Apple Club
App Store: Install the latest compatible version of an app
You first have to download the non-compatible version on your computer. Then when you try to purchase the version on your iPod you will be offered a compatible version if one exists.

Dictation in text message = Does not work
Speaking with Siri via activated with Home button = Does not work
Speaking with Siri with "Raise to Speak' = WORKS
    Voice Memos = WORKS
Speaker phone on call = WORKS
Voice control instead of Siri = WORKS
I've tried hard reset, settings reset, wiping and reloading backup...nothing. Was hoping 7.1 might offer some respite, but no dice....
I was hoping 7.1 would somehow solve it.
