Sound Blaster Digital I/O Mod

Desperately trying to find one of these.
It seems out of stock at every store on the internet, not even eBay has them.
Some websites that have real-time inventory updates tell me that they have - or even -7, (not sure how this is possible.) Other say they are "Past Due" for them, another that it wont be in until July 5th.
It seems to me like this product has been discontinued, not just on backorder.
Anyone know anything concrete?

Bump...
If this is the incorrect forum to ask for info on this product, please let me know.
I really need one of these little buggers...

I have a vanilla audigy 4. Just found out that it only supports 2. digital speakers. My DTT3500's are 5. and in the spaeker test only the front left and right make a sound, as digital 2.. will the Sound Blaster Digital I/O Module enable me to get digital 5. as my old soundblaster li've platinum 5. let me do? ie. all speakers show up in the speaker test?
    yours sincerely,
    john kelly

No. The digital output module is simply an adaptor to standard 2-channel connections such as optical, coaxial etc. Even if it includes the bigger 9-pin DIN connector which was the first generation of the DIN connectors, the Digital Output on the Audigy 4 is still only giving it 2 channels of sound, so all rest speakers will be silent.
If you are interested and have the skills you may modify the DTT3500 to support an extra analog connection for the center channel, the instructions were posted on this forum somewhere. Do a search...
There is really no other way to have the center channel receiving the signal from the card. (Theoretically you could modify the card to get the signals from there, but the chances are you will most propably destroy it in the process).

    Hi,
Does anyone know if it is possible to configure my computer to use the above mentioned sound card solely as a input device,
i.e. use my internal sound card for playback, but plug my mic in or line in devices via the Digital Music external sound card for recording?
or is it a self defeating, silly thing to try to do?

    Hi.
You can only play stereo audio through optical output for uncompressed audio format. To be able to play more than stereo through optical, you need to be playing compressed audio (dolby/dts). You can read more about this in this thread. http://forums.creative.com/t5/Sound-Blaster/Digital-Connections-SPDIF-and-Dolby-Digital-Info/td-p/45857

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio + Digital I/O mod

I have a Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio which I recently bought together with Logitech Z-5500 system to get surround sound. First I was surprised it only had analog output, but then i saw there was a digital output, but i needed to buy more **bleep** to use it. So I bought the I/O module, got it home today, and I tried to use it with an optical toslink cable. However, it didn't work, and when I looked on the website it seems the module is not capable with my card?! I thought i checked it, but I probably just took for granted it would in fact work since the card has one of these digital I/O outputs on the backside.
So, have I now thrown away both the money for the card and for the I/O module or am I just too stupid to make it work?

It is compatible with your card, but you won't get multichannel audio from sources that aren't already encoded as DD/DTS streams. If you don't get any sound at all check that the flexijack is configured as digital I/O instead of line-in and that it doesn't need to reset with every reboot.

    Hi Andy,
It depends on the source. On an optical output, you'll get multiple channels through if it's an AC3 source, such as the audio from a DVD. Other/normal audio will only come through as a stereo PCM signal though, so you'll only get 2 channels then. Check this sticky thread for some more detail:

The front panel connections you want to use are adapted to be connected to a motherboard with audio included, NOT to a PCI audio card. You'll have to connect the front panel wires to your motherboard's audio connnector.

    Dear Martin
    Thanks for your reply
I am sorry for the problem you are facing.
To achieve outputs from all the speaker during speaker test, you will need to have an analog connection, or digital DIN connection.
That will be possible if you connect the three line out jacks on your soundcard, to the three audio input (analog jacks->green,black,orange) on your speaker, if it has this connection. Or, you may connect them using Digital DIN, if they have this connection.
If you are using digital connection (coaxial, optical), there will be no way to achieve sound output from all the speakers during 5. speaker test, as they carry stereo signal.

Also it would seem your department doesn't have the necessary technical

    Dear Martin
    Thanks for your reply
Your soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS
Your speaker is Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500
You will need to have a 3:3 cable(with the color green, black, orange)
to connect your soundcard to your speaker, to achieve the 5. effects
    with games.
    Below is the connection:
    - Connect line out jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Front' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the green color
    connection
    - Connect line out 2 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Rear' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the black color
    connection
    - Connect line out 3 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Center/Subwoofer' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the
    orange color connection
Once you have done the correct connection, play the game DOOM3.
Ensure you have selected either the EAX or surround option in the game
    settings.
    Does it work?

You have lost me. Your sound card clearly states that I can have EAX
surround decoding from the sound card I have purchased.
All of the games on your web site claim to give me an environmental
    effect
that will blow my mind, hence EAX.
All I have done wrong is NOT buying your decoder that comes with the
    sound
    card. My mistake.
All I want to do is re-address this issue and buy the correct
    decoder/processor.
Can you point me to the correct link on your web site so I can buy the

As for the PCM out of the above cables, this foxes me as my other
    equipment
only use Optical cabling on my Lexicon processor and from that I have DD

My issue is more to do with NO EAX from the rear and centre channels
    while
    in-game.

All commercial digital connection eg. optical or coaxial cable will only
carry PCM stereo signal. If you want to output the signal to a surround
    5. with extra EAX environment effects, it will not be possible at all
since it is only restricted to stereo channel signal.
As per current industry limitations, we are bound to follow the standard
one-signal output for all our SPDIF and Optical output jacks. This is
something that is currently shared by all vendors for all products.
Please note that all games are not dolby digital, even they are , it
will require certain motherboard to encode it to dolby digital signal,
which our soundcard does not support.
You can only use analog connections to gain true 5. surround for
    gaming..

    Dear Martin
    Thank you for the reply.
Computer games written with support for 3D audio do not require a Dolby
Digital Interacti've Content Encoder (DICE) to output multichannel sound,
with no exceptions. Sound devices that support the real time encoder
technology from Dolby will simply receive the multichannel wave file
output and encode it in real time to a somewhat modified Dolby Digital
bitstream. Creative does not support the Dolby Digital Interacti've
Content Encoder on any of its sound cards.
The only difference between a Sound Blaster card and an audio card that
has a real time encoder, is that you can make a one-wire, digital
connection from your audio card to your home theater receiver and enjoy
discrete multichannel sound from the game. However there will be a
continuous, slight delay, known as "latency", as the encoder is creating
and transmitting the bitstream, and of course the compression scheme
being used is "lossy" (i.e. not bit-accurate).
If you want to enjoy 3D audio in 3D enabled PC games in multichannel
surround sound with a Sound Blaster card, it is recommended that you
connect the analog outputs of the sound card directly to the analog
inputs of the receiver. This will require 3 cables for 5. surround
sound, one for front right and left, one for rear left and right, and
another one for front center and subwoofer. Though it requires more
cables than a real time encoder system, it will not have any latency
issues. When connecting PC audio to a home theater receiver, Creative's
latest sound cards such as Sound Blaster Audigy, Sound Blaster Audigy 2
are likely to provide higher quality audio than any Dolby Digital real
time encode system available for the PC today.

BSound Blaster card 'digital out' into my high-end stereo receiver?A I want?to interface my iTunes music library?(all tunes in Apple Lossless file format) to my high-end sound system, using an optical (TOSLink)?cable and a "mini TOSLink adapter" that will plug into the 'digital out' jack on the Sound Blaster card in my Windows XP PC. This configuration will take advantage of the high-end DAC's in my Denon receiver.
I don't care about getting surround sound out of my PC, and I'm not a gamer. I just want hi-fi stereo music from my iTunes library.
    Will this work?Can I expect CD-quality sound?
Also, would it be worthwhile to upgrade my model SB394 sound card to a hi-fi SB card like X-Fi Xtreme Audio, or is any sound card as good as any other for simply deli'vering the digital data stream to my Denon receiver?

    Aux-In is an analog port (4-pin connector/stereo).
Don't connect powered output (= speaker outputs) into soundcard but, if possible, use some low-power connection like Headphones-Out (or if possible then some line-out port).

  • My Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Digital won't work with Vista

First off, I wasn't sure whether to put this in the vista or Sound Blaster form so sorry if this is the wrong place.
Anyways. I got a new computer two days ago and just installed my old Sound Blaster li've 5. Digital (model SB0220) card into the new desktop. Vista, the operating system I'm using now tried to find the drivers but failed. Then I tried looking them up on the creative site with the drop down lists but it didn't pull up anything either.
I plan on buying an m-audio 2496 sound card soon but for now I would like to get back to recording and the Sound Blaster card is much better than the stock motherboard audio setup.
If anyone knows of any drivers for this card it would be extremely helpful.
ThanksMessage Edited by 85Dave on 07-0-200707:22 AM

    hmm...thanks.
Well its not that bad really. sound blaster cards are not made for recording audio and so I was going to get the m-audio 2496 card anyways.
I'm just waiting for drivers on that which are supposed to come some time in the 2nd half of 2007.
    Thanks for the info.

  • Sound Blaster PCI Express - No option for AUDIO CREATION mode.

I need help. ?I purchased another computer from Dell, with a Sound Blaster board just as I have done with three other computers. ?This makes four.
I ordered it with the Sound Blaster board because of the THREE MODES, Entertainment Mode, Gaming Mode, and Audio Creation Mode. ?The Audio Creation mode is really what I want because it allows to add reverb.
So when I get this latest Dell with the Sound Blaster card it is a
Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express
The Volume control does not show the three modes. GAMING, ENTERTAINMENT, and AUDIO Creation. ?It only shows the ENTERTAINMENT mode.
So I thought perhaps those were enhancements that had to be installed from the Creative Sound Blaster CD that Dell provides. ?I put the CD in the dri've, and it goes into install mode and then when you start the install it says do you want to add additional software to which I answer YES.
Then it says install your CD in the CD dri've, which of course it is already in there. ?The CD looks funky. ?No scratches, it is new, but it has an uncharacteristic distortion on the data side so it is probably bad.
I download the drivers off the Creative site and it says, you have a newer version already installed on your computer.
I have called Dell 5 times over the course of 2.5 hours being disconnected all 5 times after speaking to people with extremely thick accents that know as much about computers as I know about brain surgery.
    BOTTOM LINE
1.Does the Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI Express have the ability to support the three modes: ?Entertainment, Gaming, and AUDIO CREATION.
If so, how do I get it to workHow do I get a new CD
    2. If this card does not support the three modes, what card doesThe Sound Blaster cards in my other three Dells all support these three modes.
    Thanks!
    Doc from Las Vegas

No the Xtreme Audio doesn't not support the three modes, it only has Entertainment mode. Any X-Fi card that is not a Xtreme Audio does support the three modes.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi: Enabling digital out under Windows Vi

    Hi,
I recently upgraded Windows XP machine to Windows Vista Ultimate. On the XP install, I had my Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music (SB0460) plugged into an external AV receiver via the digital out jack on the back of the card. This all worked fine.
Following the Vista upgrade, the receiver seems to be no longer geting a signal from Windows. None of the cabling was touched so I'm assuming there must be some setting in Vista to enable the digital out, but not for lack of trying, I can't seem to find it.
I've installed the latest drivers from the site and the sound card appears to be working correctly. The sound manager in the Control Panel shows three devices (Speakers, SPDIF Out, and Headphones). I've tried it with Speakers set to default and also with SPDIF set to default, but no joy. On Speakers, I can get sound output by plugging in headphones, but on SPDIF, nothing.
I've also looked through Audio Consol's settings and there doesn't appear to be any "Decoder" option that is mentioned on some early posts I found on other sites relating to this problem.
Any suggestions on how to enable digital out under Vista would be most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ben

In the control panel sound applet select "speakers" and then "properties". On one the tabs there is a check box for "digital I/O". Make sure this is checked as it enables digital out from the flexijack.
    Yeah, what he said.
