• Sound Blaster External USB Headphone J

Hi. I have a pretty old Sound Blaster external card--So old, in fact, that it's just called Sound Blaster. No subtitles or anything. Anyway, I've been using it for years, and in the last two it's developed a short of some kind in the headphone jack. When I lose audio in the right or left earpiece, I need to fiddle with the volume dial next to the jack very carefully until sound is properly restored. I'm almost certain my only trouble is a short, so I was wondering if there was anything I could do to get this fixed without actually opening it up myself (I don't want to ruin my card).
Any ideas?
Thanks, in any case.

Procrasticus,
Well, if you tried other headphones and other USB cables and get the same problem, then my next guess would be a defecti've headphone jack. (And after that a defecti've volume pot.) This is where it helps to be handy or have a friend who is handy with a soldering iron because it's really a very simple job. Else, you might take it to a small consumer electronic outlet (e.g., a Radio Shack or maybe a TV repair shop) and ask if there is anyone there who would solder a new jack in place for you for a fee. However, at the end of the day, it might be time to buy a new soundcard.

Hi acidhouse,
Thank you for your message. I'm so sorry about that. We could still try other settings based on your current configuration. Check the "Control for HDMI" setting on both your soundbar and blu-ray player.
To go to the Control for HDMI setting on
BLU-RAY:
1. Go to SETUP
2. Select System Settings
3. Select Control for HDMI
4. Select ON.
SOUNDBAR:
1 Press AMP MENU to turn on the AMP menu.
2 Press left arrow (return)/ up or down arrow (select)/ right arrow (proceed) repeatedly to select the item
and press center button to decide the setting.
3 Select HDMI
4 Select C.HDMI, select ON
5 Select P. THRU, select ON
4 Press AMP MENU to turn off the AMP menu.
See if turning these settings on might help you with the type of configuration you want for your components.

• Sound Blaster External card and Windows

I recently up-graded from W/98SE to XP I have an external sound card Model SB0270, I have the card (USB) plugged directly into the back of my computer. My card was working just fine until I installed XP now my computer doesn't see my sound card. I have uninstalled and reinstall, re booted afterwards, shut down every running program before hand, everything you should and could do but still no sound. I do a diagnostics and it fails every time. I have tried to download software and driver upgrades but that too has failed because my computer says I need to allow pop-up. I have allowed pop up ads as directed, checked my firewall and it will allow junk in but still no up-dates and no sound. Under Control Panel, devices, Sound and Audio Device, hardware, Creative Sound Blaster, Properties, the message there is "this device is working properly" and it says "Use this device (enabled). I don't understand, Is there any help for this card, it is only 3 month old.

FrustratedNJM,
Try running DXdiag on the card and see if the card passes the sound tests. Go to Start/Run and type Dxdiag into the run box then click Ok. Go to the sound tab and run the Direct Sound tests. Does it pass them? If so you may want to try to cleansweep and reinstall the Audigy 2 NX after finishing the USB chipset updates. Here is the article that deals with cleansweeping the drivers out.

• WinFast PVR2000 and Sound Blaster 24bit Live crackl

Hello dear colleagues.
I am monitoring the crackling issue with Sound Blaster cards for some time now.
I have Sound Blaster 24bit Li've sound card. It crackles rarely, every 5-0 minutes maybe one small crackle or peak pop.
When I am recording with Adobe Audition on LINE IN when crackle happens it is not recorded in the main signal so that is ok.
Now, I am using also WINFAST PVR 2000 cad (TV card).
When I am recording COMPOSITE or SVIDEO with WINFAST from time to time there are crackles which are unfortunately recorded inside the file too during the capture.
I am wondering has anyone noticed those crackles with WINFAST and 24bit li've...
I have by the way updated Bios, SIS video card driver, WINFAST PVR driver and Blaster 24 bit driver. They are updated but crackles with WINFAST are also there.
I am wondering is there maybe solution with some kind of latency setting for WINFAST card or Blaster card? They are all set as 32 by default.
Or there are some other solution. Any other WINFAST and 24bit users out there how are noticing similar problem with crackling during COMPOSITE and SVHS capture?

You can also check up this little Knowledgebase article SID4863 guide which may be helpful to you. Of cos, it still depend on the type of connector your TV have.

• R4388 Sound Blaster(R) Live!(TM) 24-bit Sound Card - Is it ASIO compati

I am trying to configure my computer to allow my husband to run Sibelius (music software) on it. I am upgrading to GB RAM (using XP serv pack 2) and installing another 250GB hard dri've.But I am using the R4388 Sound Blaster(R) Li've!(TM) 24-bit Sound Card and according to the website of Sibelius I need the soundcard to be ASIO compatible, but I don't know if that is?Can anyone here help me, I'd really appreciate the help. I'm happy to upgrade my sound card if necessary.

If your computer has any VIA chipset, and if your computer has any of the following problems, then you might need this driver.
The computer stops ("freezes", "hangs", "locks up"), or makes unusual noises when playing sounds.

The computer stops, or files are corrupted, when copying to or from an IDE DVD, CDROM, or CDRW dri've.

Sounds played by the computer are distorted or have a "crackling" noise.

The computer stops when playing 3D graphics or games, especially on an ATI Radeon series video card

There is a patch for VIA chipset and the patch WORKS for me! Try them at - http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/ Look under "PCI Latency" patch for VIA chipsets.

• Sound Blaster external unit

Hello !
I have 2 sound cards - Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Sounblaster X-Fi Fatalty Titanium . Both of them have external interfaces . The Fatality interface has a very limited amount of inputs , in particular , I am missing the SPDIF input/output . On the other hand Audigy 2 ZS external interface has bunch of good inputs/outputs , including so much desired SPDIF . Can anyone tell me if I can switch the external units and will the Audigy one will work with Fatalty card ?

Well to be honest its going to be hard to recommend any creative sound card, i personally don't feel the drivers are even close to being mature enough to run on vista or any other OS for that matter. Since we cant talk about other brands here without getting modded and having the thread locked you can message me and i can make some recommendations if you like. I am getting to the point where i will eventually have to get another card too... I am almost there, trying to hold back from spending 00$ but it seems creative wont come thru.

• Sound Blaster Live 24bit External (5.1) Mic-In / Line-In prob

Hey, here's my setup:
Virtual DJ Console Edition (3.4. updated)
Hercules MP3 Console
Creative Sound Blaster Li've 24bit external (5. card, using it as a 4. to get FRONT out to speakers and REAR as headphone queue)
I need to broadcast using Shoutcast (the VirtualDJ internal broadcasting plugin wont allow to set up full details that SHOUTcast plugin for Winamp allows you to fill in.... i.e. Yellow pages etc etc)
The problem is basically that when I'm using SHOUTcast for Winamp, it streams both my FRONT and REAR outputs, can't seem to choose for it to stream only FRONT...
Now, I know I can send the FRONT to Line-in (and use a stereo Y splitter to get the sound also to my speakers), but then it seems my Sound Blaster li've disables my Mic-In... seems that it has shared Line-In and Mic-In even though they are separate holes in the box....
so basically wondering if anyones got any suggestions as to how to be able to Broadcast only the FRONT output and use the Microphone... now it seems its either I can't use the Microphone when doing a radio show... or alternati'vely I can't use my headphone queue...
I don't understand why would the card have a separate Line-In and Mic-In, but you can't use the Mic-In if you have something hooked in the Line-In? Could there be some software or driver update I could get to be able to do this? Or am I just having forced to buy something like an M-Audio card thats exactly the same, but doesnt share the Mic and Line-ins but lets you use both at the same time?
Thanks for any suggestions! They are most welcome!

at drivers?
IF you mean those third part yASIO drivers they limit to 6 bit recording whic hisn't an issue wuth Acid pro, it's the bandwith and asio offset. DO you ahve a link?

• Using Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 as a decoder for an external DVD-pla

Can the Sound Blaster Li've! 5. soundcard be used as a dolby digital decoder for an external DVD-player? The way I was thinking to do this is to use an RCA to 3.5 mm audiocord from the DVD-player and plug it into the soundcards line-in. Will it decode the dolby digital signal and pass it to the speakers?

the line in (2.0 channel) can never decode a dobly digital signal you need an coaxical or optical cable to pass it trouch the soundcard and listen with you speakers, and btw and audigy li've 5. cant support digital input you need a newer soundcard like a audigy 2, 4 or xfi with the external dri've bay

• Connecting a mixer to sound blaster: live 24bit externa

Iv got some dj decks, and wanted to record my mixes to my laptop, so i saw the external sound blaster li've and thought that would do the trick. But it turns out that it is alot more complicated than?i thought. First of all, it took me ato install everythnig without something going wrong, but all the driver (for vista) seem to be ok now. Once installed, i connected a 3.5mm jack into the line in, on the soundblaster, and conncected the other end to my mixer. That all done, i went onto the recording programme that you get with the sb, but here is where it goes wrong the message 'there is no audio device on the system, the application will now close' comes up. Of course this stops me getting onto any of the programmes, and stops me from recording. After this i checked on control panel/device manager, and it said that everything was working correctly, but on another page it says 'cannot find hardware connected' although the blue power light is on. I have now run out of ideas of what to do, so any help would be great.

• How to produce 5.1 sound with logitech z5500 running on iMac 10.5.8 with sound blaster live 24 bit external.

How to produce 5.1 sound with logitech z5500 running on iMac 10.5.8 with sound blaster live 24 bit external.

First off your operating system version is obsolete and not being updated for security issues from Apple.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
So at least you need to upgrade to 10.6.8, and that will make your machine secure again.
However if you decide to upgrade further to 10.7 or 10.8, be forewarned your PPC based software of old is not going to work any longer. and your machine may require more RAM.
Check here to see and download the free MacTracker to see your machines true RAM potential and specs. There are videos online at YouTube, it's really easy to install yourself.
http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
I checked out the z-5500, apprantly the optical out shouldn't be a problem, however the surround sound decoding is a problem as the Mac doesn't do it, just passes it through for decoding on a receiver via the optical out port if your Mac has one.
Use the free MacTracker to find out or when you upgrade OS X, there is a option in the System Preferences > Sound.

The Sound Blaster Live 24 bit doesn't do Dolby 5.1 according to Wikipedia. More info on it is here.
http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=1&prodID=10702&pr odName=Live!%2024-bit%20External&CatName=Sound+Blaster
If it's able to accept optical toslink cable from the Mac's toslink stereo mini port (if it has optical output) and then send that to the z-5500 via the analog speakers, then you should be fine.
I'm afraid you'll have to do some more digging to get it to work.
The only surround sound your going to get is by playing DVD movies that have it, then it can't have Dolby 5.1 as the Live 24 bit can't decode it.
So do your research on what surround sound formats the Live 24 can decode, then compare your DVD collection for those movies that have it, then get it all connected and enable it on the movie preferences at the menu.
Good Luck

• Sound Blaster live 24-bit external hardward possible quick

i have a?Sound Blaster li've 24-bit external, it worked without any problems, accept slowing my computer down, but i only have 256 Ram and .4 GHZ CPU, so it wasn't a surprise. But then, the clips that hold the USB port in place came loose. They didn't break. They just came loose. The result being that?the port is back inside the card itself. Everything still looks just fine, but i can't get the?USB port to stay still so i can plug the cord into it. So I'm wondering if using a little glue,?or some kind of torch, might harm the device. Because I'm fairly certain the warranty is voided(cause it looks a little ruffed up), and i don't feel like paying shipping, repair, and all that, so i don't want to send it back, but there is a chance that it hasn't. Any advice is welcome. Oh and if any CL people are?reading this, the sound card was magical before the clips came loose, you guys rock!

that problem got fixed, but now there's another. every time i plug it into my computer, it says that 'there has been a power surge on USB hub' and then i have to reset the port and remove the cable. i tried looking on the database, anybody got any ideas?

• Sound Blaster Live! 24-Bit External crac

Creative Labs Sound Blaster? Li've!? 24-Bit External USB . (SB0490)?
I've seen plenty of popping/crackling posts and information, but never any pertaining specifically to this card.
I'm posting this for my girlfriend who just recently bought this card. The internal sound card in her laptop was beginning to go out, and soon she plans to build a new computer, so we thought getting her an external sound card would be a good choice as she could easily switch it between her?laptop and computer?once it's built.
Anyway, she recieves a strange anamoly I can only call a pop/crackle particularly while using the input functions of the card. More like what it is though, is it will frequently cut out, then it sounds almost like it's speeding back up to catch up with itself. When hearing her voice come through the input on a program such as Ventrillo, it cuts out frequently, occasionally makes some strange cracking sounds, and then often it will come back through and her voice will come through really fast.
According to her, the problem happens in output as well. I've not heard that myself yet, so I can't describe what that's like. It's very annoying however, is there anything we can do?
The laptop she's using is a Dell Inspiron 900 with nothing extra about it, nothing but the sound card plugged into it's many USB ports.
