Sound Blaster X-Fi: Enabling digital out under Windows Vi

Hi,
I recently upgraded Windows XP machine to Windows Vista Ultimate. On the XP install, I had my Sound Blaster X-Fi Xtreme Music (SB0460) plugged into an external AV receiver via the digital out jack on the back of the card. This all worked fine.
Following the Vista upgrade, the receiver seems to be no longer geting a signal from Windows. None of the cabling was touched so I'm assuming there must be some setting in Vista to enable the digital out, but not for lack of trying, I can't seem to find it.
I've installed the latest drivers from the site and the sound card appears to be working correctly. The sound manager in the Control Panel shows three devices (Speakers, SPDIF Out, and Headphones). I've tried it with Speakers set to default and also with SPDIF set to default, but no joy. On Speakers, I can get sound output by plugging in headphones, but on SPDIF, nothing.
I've also looked through Audio Consol's settings and there doesn't appear to be any "Decoder" option that is mentioned on some early posts I found on other sites relating to this problem.
Any suggestions on how to enable digital out under Vista would be most appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ben

Yeah, what he said.

after that i have tried the procedures you describe on the sticky above BUT... still no sound. after a few hours of search i came to understand that i'm not the only one with this problem and taht it's driver compatibility related "SO" i decided to search creative labs for a solution and i find a driver that suposedly would work and (another but...) still no sound...
what can i do? can you provide some info OR a driver download link? i would apreciate the help...

  • How do i "when the ACPI mode is enabled (by default) under Windows 2000. To fix the problem, replace the gpibpci.sys file on your machine" Where do i go to do this?

I keep getting an error message on the blue screen of death. Beginning dump of physical memory. To fix it a messgae board said "when the ACPI mode is enabled (by default) under Windows 2000. To fix the problem, replace the gpibpci.sys file on your machine with the one that is attached below and then reboot the machine." Where do i go to add this file?

I will get this error randomly, once when I was opening a file on another computer on my network, once when I was logging onto to my bank website on the internet, and another when I was searching through my d drive. Nothing to difficult, I do not even have other programs running when it happens sometimes. Thanks for any help!

  • My Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Digital won't work with Vista

First off, I wasn't sure whether to put this in the vista or Sound Blaster form so sorry if this is the wrong place.
Anyways. I got a new computer two days ago and just installed my old Sound Blaster li've 5. Digital (model SB0220) card into the new desktop. Vista, the operating system I'm using now tried to find the drivers but failed. Then I tried looking them up on the creative site with the drop down lists but it didn't pull up anything either.
I plan on buying an m-audio 2496 sound card soon but for now I would like to get back to recording and the Sound Blaster card is much better than the stock motherboard audio setup.
If anyone knows of any drivers for this card it would be extremely helpful.
ThanksMessage Edited by 85Dave on 07-0-200707:22 AM

    hmm...thanks.
Well its not that bad really. sound blaster cards are not made for recording audio and so I was going to get the m-audio 2496 card anyways.
I'm just waiting for drivers on that which are supposed to come some time in the 2nd half of 2007.
    Thanks for the info.

  • Sound - My built speakers do not show in the output section in sound system preferences area only digital out hence unless I connect external speakers I have no sound - can anyone assist?

on my IMac the internal speakers have ceased working - in the sound preferences area only digital out sound is there no internal speakers to choose so unless I connect external speakers I have no sound

    Hey Jack (woofman jack)
Sounds like the micro switch inside the output jack that switches the audio from internal to external is stuck on external. Try plugging a set of buds, headphones or digital Toslink adapter in and out a few times to see if it will unstick the micro switch. You also might try jiggling a tooth pick around inside the audio output jack to see if that unsticks it? If not then you'll need to make an appointment at your Local Apple Store or Apple Service Provider and have the jack serviced.

  • No sound only thing available is digital out

I have tryed reading different things in regards to having no sound on the i-mac and still on sound.  Have rebooted.
Only thing available is Digital Out.
show volume in menu bar not working
    mute button greyed out
Not much point in having i-tunes cant listen to them any way
    Anyone no how to fix

The switch between analog and digital output takes place when you insert an optical connector in the output socket: there is a small mechanical switch which detects the type of plug. If this has jammed you will get stuck in optical output.
I asume you've tried simply rebooting - that's always the first step with minor failures. Try plugging a pair of headphones into the socket and see if they work. If so it's possible that the internal speakers will work when you unplug it. If not, poking around with a toothpick might work but it might equally well make matters worse or cause permanent damage so I don't recommend it - do it at your own risk.
Beyond that you will need to get it looked at by a service engineer.

The front panel connections you want to use are adapted to be connected to a motherboard with audio included, NOT to a PCI audio card. You'll have to connect the front panel wires to your motherboard's audio connnector.

I think the unbiased readers at this forum should take notice of this fact.   The original person who posted this question raised a question that was of a "rudimentary" nature.   I will repeat that point again, - the question was of a rudimentary nature - not even fundamental.     The replies to this individual were less than courteous.
Take notice that the people who are "associated" with NI felt my post was inappropriate but did not seek to criticize the "rude" responses to the original poster.   Again, my point, the NI associated people are not criticizing their colleagues but rather the "customer".
The point I had made is not wrong.   Operating systems are designed to input and output data.    Every O/S can input and output data.
This type of program was written for just about every O/S before to my knowledge.  The people who replied negatively with regard to this generality cited an exception rather than the rule.   I will repeat again, they cited an "exception" rather than the general condition.  This is a standing fact.
The public should take notice of the point that just saying someone is "wrong," does not make the individual "wrong".
To be exact, when you say someone is wrong, you must support it with facts.
You will notice that I could argue that my statement was theoretically true and be theoretically correct.  But I will not.  In deference to "civil" communication I will say that an exception may exist to my initial statment - in order to assuage the "feelings" of the NI associated people who replied "negatively."    Thus, leaving the NI associated people a "moment of repose", to stand back, and fully consider what they have written.
The "NI associated people" are "outraged" because I used the term "simple" to describe the task at hand.  "Simple" is a relative description.    This task is fairly simple if you are a programmer employed to design, create, and operate, the operating system.
I will concede that this may not be a simple task, if you are an "outsider" looking in  (a programmer with no inside information from the OS designer).    However, even if you are an outsider,  and you are employed by a software company, this will be one of the company's fundamental assignments that it will have to naturally pursue.   You have many hours per day to look into this assignment.    In addition, a team of programmers has probably been tasked with this assignment - making this assignment much easier.
The measure of complexity is now measured over how much time the individual has been afforded to look into the assignment.
    The current condition:
VISTA O/S in "programmer design time" is now an old operating system.  It is now 2 generations behind the current OS.    Therefore, the time frame to find a "working" remedy has spanned many, many, years.   I will repeat again, the time frame to find a working remedy has spanned - years.
This is where my analysis becomes irrefutable.  Here is a link which substanciates that a "solution" was found a long time ago by National Instruments itself:
    http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/496CD7613F331EA4862571E200633507
    They looked into this.
What I don't like about a lot of technical support people is that instead of looking at the facts as they stand, it appears that some tech support personnel will together as a group, and agree, that if the question raised by the novice appears to be too difficult for them to answer, they will put down the person raising the question.    This is a rudimentary question that all beginners must raise.
Some tech support people can just e-mail the person the solution (because we know a solution exists) and tell the person the "pitfalls" of using the program and tell the individual, "use at your own risk".
Instead of just, posting the program source code, or e-mailing the code to the "customer", they just publicly put him/her down.
Instead of "thinking as a group" and convincing themselves that they are in the right, they should just step back back for a moment, get out of "group think" mode, and consider what the customer is asking for.
"I want a simple one, or a simple zero, out of a port"  or
"I want to read stored data at an io port address" (not "streaming data")
does that really "sound" like too much to ask for.
      To be fair:
With regard to accomplishing this task, it might be a lot to ask for depending upon the "artificial" complexity that has been designed into the OS.
But does the task at hand really so "sound" difficult.
The point I am trying to make, the replies were not balanced, nor considerate, to the customer.
The points I have made in this discussion do not reflect upon all "NI associated" programmers".    There are many courteous NI programmers and courteous NI "associates" my comments do not reflect upon them.    I am by no means making a general statement, nor have I made a general statement, referring to these people.
If I have offended anyone with my replies,  I apologize.   I believe in being courteous, honest, and fair to all those whom I correspond with.   Please try to understand the points I have tried to make - they are "balanced."

  • Can't work with Macbook mini-dvi adapter to s-video out under Windows..??

    hi..
My macbook can work well with mini-dvi adapter to tv out under mac os,but it can't work under windows os..
If anyone's using their Macbook and has any comments please let me know..
    Thanks.

Yes, if you can get an s-video cable and plug that into the SCART adapter, that would be better than plugging in composite video.
Clearly, having an SCART connection is not going to "improve" the video going in, you're going to be limited by the lowest quality connection. An s-video connection will provide a higher (but probably not a lot) quality signal than composite video.

  • Sound Blaster X-Fi skips a beat in windows media player! Help

I'm going crazy... My media player occasionally skips a beat when I listen to music, or even when I watch movies... though it's rarely a beat in a movie.
I don't know what to do, no one I've asked have any idea why this happens. I've formatted my computer since I got the card, so it's not a virus, not spyware etc. I've also had problems with missing sound in F.E.A.R when playing with EAX effects etc.
I'm sorry, but I really don't have time to run every possible cause in the FAQ, since it's pretty rare that it skips a beat, and it would simply take ages.
I have tried with reduced or removed hardware acceleration, changed all possible settings in media player etc, no ideas left.
So I hope someone has experienced the same, and has some kind of solution.
    Computer:
    Intel Pentium 4 3.2Ghz/800FSB
    ASUS P4P800 (Socket 478)
    GeForce 7600 GS
    Soundblaster X-Fi Platinum (The sinner)
    80GB Maxtor Harddisk (S-ATA 50)
    Running at stock speed.

I have the exact same problem, I think, though I notice it most with videos. I also have a Sound Blaster X-Fi (XtremeGamer) but the same issue happens with my Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS.
By "skip a beat", you mean that the playback skips forward, right? By maybe half a second or so, or a whole second? If so, then yes, I have this problem.
I have an idea for you. You have an Intel Pentium 4. I've isolated this problem with my dual-core Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 to be related to the dynamic switching of threads over to CPU, or the second core. Whenever a video or music is playing on this core, the problem may happen. But if I limit it to CPU0, the problem goes away.
It should be much easier to solve this problem for you. You don't have a true dual-core or dual-CPU system, but it should be recognized as one as a result of the Intel Pentium 4's HyperThreading. So what I suggest to you is to disable hyperthreading. You can do this in the BIOS, and can find more information about how to do it on Google probably. Please try this - I'm VERY interested in knowing if it works for you. Let me know if it does or doesn't or if you need any additional help.

  • Sound blaster Audigy Remote Control / Remote Center in Windows 7

    @Hey Folks,
I have an Audigy Platinum with a remote control and version .46 of the Remote Center software.
Remote center has extremely limited functioning under windows 7 - I can eject the CD player, turn on/off clock
display, everything else either displays N/A in the overlay or gets no response (hitting the remote 'start' button for instance).
Is there a newer version of Remote Center that may have more functionality in Windows 7? I know of commercial software but I'd prefer a solution via creative labs or free and open source software if available. I have searched for newer versions of Remote Center but seem to be stuck with the version that came on my CD. Any suggestions?
    thanks,
    jd

zac,You need to get the Vista apps for your X-fi. Either pull the ISO files off torrent or one of the other sites or pay the $7.00 shipping fee for the CD from Creative. Install the entertainment center off the CD and you'll have remote control functionality. Steve
