Sound Blaster X-FI (Platinum) - Sound Channels resetting with several programms.
Hello, I got a Sound Blaster X-FI Platinum installed with the newest final drivers and using this card with XP-Home SP 3.
Under the Volume Section I can manually select how much volume I need on the soundchannels from -8, well I did my own specific configuration for me with adjusting the channel volumes for each.
When I start Power DvD (7 or 8 Ultra doesn't matter) or I make a MSN call, all the sound channels are resetting to the default value... and I have to adjust it everytime new...
Is this a bug or what can I do to resolve this?
Really need help... its really annoying to reconfigure it everytime !
UPDATE:
Ok, so I tried to uninstall it all again and the computer froze up so I restarted it and windows "found new hardware" again and i let it do this:
<img alt="" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v609/darrennicole259/de9d28b.jpg">?
It hung up there a little so I went to uninstall the X-Fi again because of it not responding last time and it uninstalled successfully. SO now when that screen closed I got this message:
<img alt="" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v609/darrennicole259/3fe66b89.jpg">?
I don't know if it is going to work or not now, but I am going to restart the computer. I do not have anything from the disc installed so we'll see what my device manager looks like and see if it is working...

Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum Center Channel
Yay another problem with my ancient sound card =P
So all of a sudden, my Logitech Z-5300e speakers suddenly lose their center channel speaker. Playing 720p and 080p .mkv files, games, you name it. One day it works, the next day it stops working.
I've tried the following:
Checked Windows sound and made sure that 5. was selected
Creative Audio Console states 5.
Cables are correctly and fully inserted.
What makes me think this is a sound card issue is that when i use Matrix Sound on the Z-5300e speakers, the center channel suddenly starts working.
Anyone else had the problem where the ceneter channel suddenly stops working? thanks for your time and consideration.Connect a pair of speakers to where?
Under PlayControl, the speaker volume was down on several of the speakers
Now there is sound coming from the center speaker after i put them all in the middle, but the sound isn't as crisp as it was before. I guess this is a quick fix?
After putting all the volumes down to 0 and increasing the volume i found that Channel 3 controls the center speaker, channel 5 the surround left and channel 6 the surround right.
What is channel 4 used for? Are bass and center linked together? -
Sound Level Pressure with several channel
Hello,
I met a problem with the VI "SVL Exp Avg Sound Level.vi". It works perfectly if I make a measurement with a single microphone, but with more microphones I have some computation error with discontinuity depending on the buffer size.
The following message is given in Labview Help :
"The SVL Exp Avg Sound Level VI requires a continuous input data stream. An
internal mechanism automatically detects any sampling discontinuity and resets
the filters. "
I suppose that there is a link with my problem, but I have no idea to correct it.
Here is my VI which is composed of a producer/consumer pattern. The consumer loop computes the sound level pressure during the measurement and stores the measured data in a TDMS file.
I am not expert with enqueue and dequeue function, so maybe it is bad programmed and I have some discontinuity in my data stream coming from the dequeue function.
Thanks for your help,
MathieuBased on your screenshot, it looks as though your code may be computing the weighted sound level for each channel in a single For Loop. The Weighting VIs and the Sound Level VIs maintain state, so it is not correct to use it in a For Loop to process multiple channels. Instead, wire the entire array of sound pressure channels to the input of the weighting and sound level VIs. The polymorphic VIs will adapt to the input type, and if the input data is continuous, the warning will not be returned.
Interestingly, you may be able to simplify your code if you specify the read order to group measurement types. Here is some code that I was looking at when evaluating performance for some different approaches to grouping waveforms. The Group by measurement type case was the fastest.

Sound channel problem with Personal Cinema FX500
WinXP SP1
MBoard : ASUS P4S533
(CMI8738 on-board Audio)
MSI Personal Cinema FX5200 MS-8918
The problem is that in the setup of WinDVD, the only audio source i can choose in WAVE,
but the sound output of the video tuner is on Line-In, of course.
Because of this problem, the remote affects the volume of WAVE, and has no effect on the Line-In channel. And, of course, when recording, the sound on the wave channel is recorded,
so, no sound !
Any one encountered this problem ? I installed the drivers on the original CD.After nearly 3 months, I came up with the answer myself:
I installed a new driver (639) for the CMI8738 on-board sound and now the "Line In" option appears in the WinDVR setup. -

Thanks for your reply
I am sorry for the problem you are facing.
To achieve outputs from all the speaker during speaker test, you will need to have an analog connection, or digital DIN connection.
That will be possible if you connect the three line out jacks on your soundcard, to the three audio input (analog jacks->green,black,orange) on your speaker, if it has this connection. Or, you may connect them using Digital DIN, if they have this connection.
If you are using digital connection (coaxial, optical), there will be no way to achieve sound output from all the speakers during 5. speaker test, as they carry stereo signal.

Hello
Your email was helpful, unfortunately, not for my unit, you see I would
have
connected the Jack leads in by now if the inspire had Jack lead inputs
as
you describe
Please don't think I am being sarcastic, but from reading the
correspondence
below it would seem as if your department is having difficulty
understanding
my problem.
Also it would seem your department doesn't have the necessary technical
information on your very own product, so to help with your dilemma I
have
taken photos of the input/outputs on the Inspire unit.
You will clearly see the inspire has no inputs other than Coaxial and
Optic.
This leaves me back to my last post. I think the solution would be for
me to
purchase the correct processor, which would have come with the original
sound card had I not been a little tight on the money front.
I have attached a photo of the sound card with the processor, I would
love
to buy this processor but find myself unable to locate this product on
your
web site. Would you possibly be able to send me the correct link to this
item so I can buy this Processor Please?

Thanks for your reply
Your soundcard is Audigy 2 ZS
Your speaker is Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500
You will need to have a 3:3 cable(with the color green, black, orange)
to connect your soundcard to your speaker, to achieve the 5. effects
with games.
Below is the connection:
- Connect line out jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Front' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the green color
connection
- Connect line out 2 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Rear' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the black color
connection
- Connect line out 3 jack of Audigy 2 ZS
to 'Center/Subwoofer' of Creative Inspire 5. Digital 5500 using the
orange color connection
Once you have done the correct connection, play the game DOOM3.
Ensure you have selected either the EAX or surround option in the game
settings.
Does it work?

You have lost me. Your sound card clearly states that I can have EAX
surround decoding from the sound card I have purchased.
All of the games on your web site claim to give me an environmental
effect
that will blow my mind, hence EAX.
All I have done wrong is NOT buying your decoder that comes with the
sound
card. My mistake.
All I want to do is re-address this issue and buy the correct
decoder/processor.
Can you point me to the correct link on your web site so I can buy the
correct decoder/processor?
As for the PCM out of the above cables, this foxes me as my other
equipment
only use Optical cabling on my Lexicon processor and from that I have DD
7., DTS 7. and meridian 5. lossless.
My issue is more to do with NO EAX from the rear and centre channels
while
in-game.

Dear Martin
Thanks for your reply
All commercial digital connection eg. optical or coaxial cable will only
carry PCM stereo signal. If you want to output the signal to a surround
5. with extra EAX environment effects, it will not be possible at all
since it is only restricted to stereo channel signal.
As per current industry limitations, we are bound to follow the standard
one-signal output for all our SPDIF and Optical output jacks. This is
something that is currently shared by all vendors for all products.
Please note that all games are not dolby digital, even they are , it
will require certain motherboard to encode it to dolby digital signal,
which our soundcard does not support.
You can only use analog connections to gain true 5. surround for
gaming..

Dear Martin
Thank you for the reply.
Computer games written with support for 3D audio do not require a Dolby
Digital Interacti've Content Encoder (DICE) to output multichannel sound,
with no exceptions. Sound devices that support the real time encoder
technology from Dolby will simply receive the multichannel wave file
output and encode it in real time to a somewhat modified Dolby Digital
bitstream. Creative does not support the Dolby Digital Interacti've
Content Encoder on any of its sound cards.
The only difference between a Sound Blaster card and an audio card that
has a real time encoder, is that you can make a one-wire, digital
connection from your audio card to your home theater receiver and enjoy
discrete multichannel sound from the game. However there will be a
continuous, slight delay, known as "latency", as the encoder is creating
and transmitting the bitstream, and of course the compression scheme
being used is "lossy" (i.e. not bit-accurate).
If you want to enjoy 3D audio in 3D enabled PC games in multichannel
surround sound with a Sound Blaster card, it is recommended that you
connect the analog outputs of the sound card directly to the analog
inputs of the receiver. This will require 3 cables for 5. surround
sound, one for front right and left, one for rear left and right, and
another one for front center and subwoofer. Though it requires more
cables than a real time encoder system, it will not have any latency
issues. When connecting PC audio to a home theater receiver, Creative's
latest sound cards such as Sound Blaster Audigy, Sound Blaster Audigy 2
are likely to provide higher quality audio than any Dolby Digital real
time encode system available for the PC today.

May i know what game are you playing when there are no sound from the

Have you done the appropriate settings in the game to achieve the 5.

Is there any game patches that you will need to update?

AKG PERCEPTION 200 (MICROPHONE)
HELPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!It needs 48 VOLTS Phantom power(phantom power supplied by whatever? equipment it is plugged into..........)...........You cannot expect a soundcard to supply 48v phantom power if there is no 48volts to start with.Mixers and the like usually have "phantom power"supplies built in to power condenser mics.Soundcards also supply the power for regular headset mics and desktop pc mics via the mic socket(jack).A soundcard cannot and will not supply 48 Volts. IF I tried to connect a condenser mic(not headset or desktop)to a soundcard via a XLR connector into a stereo jack plug(adapter), where do you think the 48 Volts would come from?If a condenser mic does not have a battery inside or is not a low voltage one that takes it's power across the mic jack on a soundcard then it aint gonna work. How do you think a headset or desktop mic works?on fresh air?It takes enough power(volts)from across the power rail that supplies the soundcard. The front I/0 panel on Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Platinum ZS not found by Creative Volume Control Application. Under recording sources, I can only choose from "What you hear", MIDI Synth, S/PDIF-In, CD Digital, Analog Mix (Line/CD/Aux/TAD/PC), Microphone and Wave. The option to record from anything on the front panel, (Aux-in 2, Line-in/Mic-in 2) have disappeared. I have tried re-installing the software from scratch, just installing Creative Update components and even formatting the hard-dri've and re-loading Windows but it still doesn't work!!?Does anybody have any helpful suggestions on this frustrating matter?
If you're using a dynamic microphone, the Audigy 2 ZS dri've bay has a jumper which you can change for it to support dynamic microphones instead of electret microphones. However once this is done you won't be able to use electret mics until you've changed the jumper setting back.

Creative sound blaster x-fi platinum is
hey guyswill my new creative sound blaster x-fi platinum be able to connect to my motherboard?firstly, i dont think the cable that comes with the card will connect to my motherboard, is that true? it is an A8N-SLi Premium?also, even if i dont use the front plate, how do i get the soundcard itself to work? I install the drivers but when i try to run the audio console it says "the audio device supported by this application is not detected - the application will exit"any ideas because for this much money if it doesnt work that would suckthanks guys!bobso
ok i've done what you said.i disabled the onboard chipset and put the card in the outermost slot and the soundcard works nowhowever, i tried to connect the front panel and had issues. i used a completly blank IDE cable that has no 'key' pins (only red ribbon on pin ) and once connected (power and everything) when the computer boots it doesnt get past the IDEchecklist thing - i know it is the front-panel at fault because when i disconnect the IDE cable from the mobo then it gets past that point and does the IDE check...do you think the front-panel is at fault or the IDE cable... it is a very old cable that has been stored in an old box with lots dust...really not sure, would like a hand thanks!bobso

Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1 and DTT2500 5.1
Hello!
I have a Sound Blaster Live! Platinum 5.1 and a Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500 5.1 Digital Sound System.
I linked them with with the SPDIF-Out on the Live! Drive.
First i thought it works but then i realized that there is only sound from the 2 front and the center speakers. There is no Signal on the Sorround Speakers.
When i do the sound test in the sorround mixer, only the left and the right front speakers work.
Do i have to link it with this 9 pin digital din cable? But i don't have such and don't know where to get.
Can you help me?
How do i have to link this devices? You may have to use the connection on the rear of the sound card...there should have had a "Y" shaped cable included with the speaker/sound card..it has a small 1/8" plug on the single end and opens to a din plug and rca type pluge on the other...try the single end in the orange input at the sound card and the other two plug in to the speaker system..sorry bout being so vaugue, i'm kinda tired..but if you need the original speaker system/ sound card owner's manuals with the installation diagrams I can get them to you.

Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum + What You Hear
Hi All,
I'm looking into picking up a Sound Blaster X-Fi Platinum or the X-Fi Platinum Fatalty Champion Series card... However after recent frustration loosing the "What U Hear" option on a old Audigy SE running under Windows Vista, I am a little unsure!
My question is: Do the X-Fi Platinum or Fatalty Champion Series cards have the "What U Hear" recording option like it did with previous older Creative cards? *I am now back using Windows XP*
Also, are the 2 mentioned X-Fi cards much cop when it comes to music production?
Many thanksWell looking over ?you see the Creative SoundBlaster X-Fi Sound Card Family Review.
Note...[*]ASIO 2.0 support at 6-bit/44.kHz, 6-bit/48kHz, 24-bit/44.kHz 24-bit/48kHz and 24-bit/96kHz with direct monitoring.<?
ASIO 2.0 seems a different ball game all together.
We know that not all those card will NOT give you What U hear in Vista, so I think it's bad to get the terms confused.
You can find the same on some USB eternals as well, and I've yet to see one than that can do mix (What U hear)
I?suggested to?creative in another thread if they could supply this information rather than let someone buy the card to find out it doesn't.
Worth noting that creative have stated what cards can do What U hear in Vista tho.
The What U Hear recording option is supported in Windows Vista for Sound Blaster X-Fi series (Excluding Extreme Audio series) and Sound Blaster Audigy series (excluding Sound Blaster Audigy LE, SE, and Audigy Value).
Some of those card will with older drivers though.
This whole Stereo mix thing has become a total sham, and is not provided on most new laptops with vista and creatives external solution ( X-Fi Xtreme Audio Notebook) doesn't give it in Vista but it does XP but you CANNOT do voice over music with it as you have mic control and it mutes the mic.
I suppose it depends what we use mix for though....some people just want it to record from the web, so they are not bothered about the mic, but if you want to do voice over music (karaoke or DJ) it's no good.
I could give you a link to a forum where people are cursing the lack of mix, and I can see it getting worse as people get new PCs with Vista on.
Sorry I went off topic, but I needed a vent over this as I often get asked by people "what should I buy" and I can't find the answers!
Come on Creative!!!!!
-

So then I decided to uninstall everything and try it again. I got the same problem. I then decided to check my system information and device manager. There was 3 conflicts total. I resolved 2 of them, they were not related to the sound card, and the final conflict is just the soundcard. Here is the list:

After getting frustrated I try installing it from windows itself by right-clicking and updating driver. It finds the driver it needs and I get it to recognize the soundcard and it says:
<img alt="" src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v609/darrennicole259/aa79f3.jpg">?
Is the sound card just incompatible with my computer or is there something I can change or do to fix it and get it running? I really want this up and running so I can connect my 4-Track recorder to my computer to transfer the audio. Thanks for any help at all, I will post more information if you need and would love to get this up and running.UPDATE:
