Sound Blip is here to stay. Good job Final Cut Express HD won't help you!

Imovie 6HD is super but the sound blip on faded out music files is unforgivable. When you print (export) to a quicktime movie it puts all sorts of audio blips and volume changes onto the finished file that aren't there on playback in iMovie.
Luckilly I have final cut express HD.
Unlickilly It can't import any of my imovie project files.
It just keeps telling me that there are 'unknown files'.
So what am I to do? Can't work with the audio in imovie and can't import to final cut express HD. and yes I have the latest versions of all of these.
Please help me

It is apparently an issue when creating PAL files. There are posts discussing this and it is a well documented problem. There are a few round about moves you can do. Check the other posts for some of these. It seems that the best bet is to uninstall and reinstall Motion 4 or 5 until this big bug is fixed. I Have imported the iMotion file into Final Cut Pro by open file and exported it from there.
Good luck

  • Optimal export from Canon Vixia HV30 via Final Cut Express for Blip.tv

I am looking to optimize the export of my videos from Final Cut Express (4.0.1). I shoot HD Widescreen on a Canon Vixia HV30. I've been having problems getting good quality in a smallish package.
For some reason, the videos come off the camera at the odd ratio of 496 x 279. This means I have to export them that size, but the final product ends up being huge. Literally, the screen is larger than the computer screen, and I have to view it on half size. I feel I could get more bang for my buck if these videos could be exported smaller initially.
Here are my settings for export (as Quicktime Movie with Quicktime conversion):
    Compression: H.264
    Quality: High
    Key frame rate: 24
    Encoding: Multi-pass
The only tweak I make is to set the kbits/sec to between 3000 and 3500, which gets me a decent looking video that's about two minutes long and between 40 and 70MB.
If I try to tweak the ratio or the format, the picture gets squeezed or the quality drops significantly. I've also been running into the problem of skipping playback on Blip.tv, which recently switched to a new version of Flash.
Any help on how to shrink the video and keep the quality?
    Regards,
    Philip

Export to where? Where are you trying to get to? Export QuickTime Movie is the original converted FCE media file.

  • What's so good about Final Cut Pro?

Hi everyone, I am totally new to Macs, switching over from the PC. And so far, I have to say that I honestly enjoy the Macs a lot more than the PC's. With that being said, my wife's friend was telling us that we should invest in Adobe Photoshop and Final Cut Pro. The problem is we know nothing about the two programs other than photoshop is obviously working with photos and final Cut has something to do with movies.
So can someone please tell us whats so good about these two programs. And if we were to buy them, is there some sites that offer good tutorials to learn how to operate each of them?

A quick tour of Final Cut Pro can be found here:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/finalcutpro/
    and Final Cut Express here:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutexpress/tutorials/
There are paid tutorials found at Lynda.com. And a smattering found ALL OVER THE PLACE...some on the Creative Cow:
    http://library.creativecow.net/tutorials/applefinalcutpro
But those are advanced ones for people already familiar with FCP. The ones on Lynda.com are for beginners through experts. And there are books:

  • Final cut express HD  "fading sound"

    Hello anyone who knows,
how do i fade out the sound track or lower volumes and or raise volumes within sound tracks?
    thanks,
    john

Tom gave you some good advice - spend some time in the FCE Help file.
That said, what you do is toggle Clip Overlays > On . A thin pink line will appear across the middle of each of your audio clips. You can then add keyframes with the Pen tool and then use your mouse drag the levels up or down as you wish between any two keyframes.
Tom was also too modest in his post - you really ought to get a copy of his book Final Cut Express 2 Editing Workshop. Don't worry that it's from the FCE2 era - all the basic material in it is appropriate to FCE-HD and FCE-HD v3.5.

  • Pro Res in Final cut express How do i get a good quality SD DVD

I recently bought final cut express and have suffered getting a good quality SD DVD out through the workflow from my cannon XHA1.
On screen its fine but when i author through imovie to DVD the quality is poor.
So reading the various threads it would seem that i need to use Pro res and the ingress codec... But cant find this option in express ?
Question is. Is pro res codec available in express and if not can someone suggest the optimum set up for HD capture to SD DVD output
    Many thanks

Use either of these techniques to get good quality DVDs from AIC.
    1. Edit your HDV/AIC in the timeline. Then create a new DV-PAL (NTSC) Anamorphic sequence. Copy your edited HDV/AIC to the new sequence. Do not alter anything. Render the sequence ..... this will take a long time - up to twice the length of the project. Then File>Export>QuickTime Movie (Not Self-contained).
However, if you use the QT Movie in iDVD you will get a squashed 4:3 movie, so first of all you must make QT stretch it out to its proper 16:9 dimensions like this:-
+a. Open the exported movie file in the QT Pro player.+
    +b. Go to Window>Show Movie Properties.+
+c. Select the "Video Track" and in the "Visual Settings" panel uncheck "Preserve Aspect Ratio".+
+d. In the "Scaled Size" box set the width to 1024 pixels for PAL.+
+e. The "Video Track" will have turned grey, so click it to make it blue again.+
+f. The opened movie file will jump to 16:9.+
+g. Close it with the red button and click Save.+
    2. This method is fast. Set your camera to "Locked DV" which means that FCE/FCP will capture it as anamorphic DV and edit it as standard definition anamorphic DV. (Use Easy Setup ... DV-PAL (NTSC) Anamorphic).
You can then Export>QuickTime Movie to be used in iDVD and use the stretching technique mentioned above.

  • 5.1 surround sound in final cut express HD????

is there 5.1 sound import or creation in the program?
what im trying to say is, does Final Cut Express HD support surround sound??

You're going to need DVD Studio Pro, which is included with Final Cut Studio.
    5.1 is pretty sophisticated stuff.
Roxio DVDit Pro supports 5.1 authoring, but it's Windows platform only.

  • Final Cut Express HD/Sound track

    Two questions:
First, Does Shake work with Final Cut Express HD?
Secondly, I am missing weapson and explosions on my Soundtrack, I tried reinstalling the CD-rom, it did not replace the two missing sounds. Any ideas?
Should I unstall all of Final Cut and reinstall the entire program?

    1. Shake does not work directly with FCE HD. Or at least, not that I know of. You must probably just export from Shake and import to FCE. Or perhaps you should go with FCS, as it most likely integrates more closely with Shake.
    2. Upon opening up the application Soundtrack, I too do not have anything installed for the category 'Weapons' & 'Explosions'. Perhaps it put the categories in, but it did not install any, instead letting you go out and buy more Apple Loops, or just Loops in general. Speaking of 3rd Party Loops, try this website for any sound effects, it is very broad:

  • Does anyone know good free internet tutorials for final cut express 4?

ok, so i finally have my final cut express 4, it seems very intimidating and i get sacred just looking at the program! i need 2 things, online FREE tutorials, other than the ones apple offers, and a good stock footage website that is also free... HELP!!!
    Message was edited by: James31

There are dozens of free tutorials on the web, both written and in video format.
Ripple Training has about 50 video tutorials which you can download free of charge;-
    http://www.rippletraining.com/freetutorials_final_cutexpress.html
HOWEVER they are useless for beginners because all the available tutorials tend to be on interesting BUT RANDOM SUBJECTS which I believe is something you DO NOT WANT ?
I think you are probably looking for something that will take you in an orderly and logical fashion from installing FCE and setting up your camera so you can capture the footage, through all the basic processes of editing, explaining them clearly and unambiguously.
If that is the case, you cannot do better than to get one of the books suggested by Michel and written by Tom Wolsky.
It will not only enable you to master the basics quickly and easily but will take you up to a high standard of film-making competency.

  • Final Cut Express 3.5 surround sound support

I upgraded to 3.5 from 3.0 with the hope that FCE 3.5 would finally support MPEG-2 with Dolby 5.1 as it says it supports surround sound. Any idea if this is in the plans as FCE for the video part blows away all of the PC stuff but I would really like to edit the Sony SM100 MPEG files with sound.

  • M4p files no good in Final Cut, how can I convert?

A P.S. to my previous questions: The iTunes m4p files don't work in Final Cut. I can't convert them in Final Cut or Quicktime or Soundtrack or Logic Audio. In fact, they don't play in any of those apps, only iTunes.
I've got the rights to a song for a film that has to be completed Friday. How can I convert the m4p file to something useable?
    Help would be most appreciated,
    Ben

This goes back a couple of years and is not related to your problem, but it may your next problem.
I tried using .mp3 files out of iTunes and into Final Cut Pro. They would play, but by the time I got to exporting final video, the sound quality was terrible. I went back to the original cd audio file (.aiff?) and everything was fine.

  • Audio sounds great in Quicktime Player but horrible in Final Cut Pro

I'm working with a 16-bit wav file that sounds great in the quicktime player but once I bring it into Final Cut Pro 6 and play it back, it sounds like the quality has degraded quite a bit. I've tried setting audio playback quality to high in preferences, but this has not helped.

    Hi -
Open the wav file in Quicktime 7 and export it as a 48Khz AIFF file.
Import that file into FCP and see if that solves your problem.

  • Finding a GOOD Studio Mic to use with Final cut Express

    Hi,
I need to get a good quality...not expensive mic to record narrations for my videos. I've been reading abut the Marshall Electronics MXL Desktop recording mics and kits are a good quality desktop recording mic that would work with my mac to do record GOOD quality narrations for my videos. Anyone have any thoughts on this mic or any other mics I could use to record quality narrations for my videos using a mic that is no more than about $200.
    Thanks
    Matt

Matthew, there are lots of good mics out there and you don't have to spend a fortune to get them. If you prefer buying new, you could hardly go wrong with a Shure SM58, industry workhorse, for under $100. Check out eBay, too - I recently got some mint condition Audio Technica Pro 4L's for under $20.
I would suggest that for sound quality, go with a good balanced mic rather than a cheap unbalanced one. The telltale is the connector - balanced mics use XLR connectors. Keep in mind, however that if you use balanced mics you will need an adapter or mixer to go from the XLR connector to the 1/8" connector you will need to plug into your Mac. Use a balanced cable from the mic to your Mac, then the adapter where you plug into your Mac. You can get an adapter for less than $10 at B&H or Sam Ash. Mixers, of course, cost more but they also give you much more control.
And if you plan to record in front of your Mac, choose a cardioid or unidirectional mic, not omnidirectional. That will go a long way toward reducing noise pickup from your Mac (which I assume would be behind your mic).

  • Improving Sound Quality + Removing Tape Hiss in Final Cut Express

    Hello
I transferred of a VHS tape to FCE.
To improve the sound, which was never that good to begin with, we worked on it in Sound Track Pro. The tape hiss is gone and the sound has been improved BUT now the film is out of sync. I've now found out this is what happens. :-(
    Someone suggested to try Logic.
Is this a good way to go?
    Thanks

Unfortunately this is the kind of thing that happens when you roundtrip audio out of FCE, into an external editor, and back into FCE.  There could be many possible causes.
If the audio is just out of sync (as opposed to drifting out of sync over time) you may be able to nudge the audio track forward or backward in the timeline to resync it with the video.  I have done this on occasion, and it's a fiddly process, but it can be done.
May I suggest that you get an audio plugin that can clean up the audio right inside FCE.  I use WaveArts MR Noise and it is awesome for cleaning up sound.  You can download a fully functional version that will run for 30 days.   Bias SoundSoap is also a good product, but the demo version has limited or disabled features.

  • How do I remove sound from video in Final Cut Express?

How do i get the sound off the video.

You can unlink the audio and video in the timeline (click the small chain link icon in the top right of the timeline) and delete the video or audio track. Is this what you meant?
