Sound Blown?

I've been using an old speaker set of Harman Karmon's for about 3 months, most of the time the device is plugged into my macbook (july 2012 purchased new just downloaded Mavericks) and I usually am always playing my Spotify music through the speakers from the computer. The other day I was on a website (Tumblr) and clicked on an audio post while music was still playing from my Spotify. All of a sudden the sound just stopped. I haven't been able to get any sound out of the computer since and it has been almost an entire day without sound. There is no red LED emitting from the headphone jack, and everything seems to look okay in my System Preferences/ Sound area and have looked into it trying to fix it but I am so scared that I blew my speakers. I heard no crackling or any sort of sympton of blown speakers it just seemed to just give up playing music or anything that emits sound for that matter.
Can anyone help me ? I am so scared that I fried something

  • S750 Problem... Speakers sound blown... but they aren't? I dont' get it. Please help.

Okay, I am completely confused here. This just started happening today. My left rear speaker, and side right speaker are all cringly and sound like they are blown. I know they aren't blown though, because if I switch say the rear left speaker into the front speaker port they sound just fine. So I don't get it. Any speaker I plug into the side right or rear left port makes the speaker sound terrible though. Is something wrong with my subwoofer? I've tried everything to fix this, but have had no luck.
If it is messed up will Creative replace it for free? Also, I'm using the Creative XFI XtremeMusic sound card with this system.

I would highly recommend creative support as your first call here. As a simple test, try swapping the rear/front inputs around. If the crinkly sound still comes through the same speakers then give them an email. I cant promise a replacement (because i dont work for creative) but in my experience the support has been great.

  • Flash sound suddenly distorted

The sound for my Flash player is suddenly mega-distorted (to
the point that I can't understand anything and my speakers sound
blown out). But the sound for all other functions (media player,
dvd player, etc.) is completely fine, so it's not the speakers.
It's not any particular website, either--I've tried Flash on
multiple websites and the sound is messed up across the board. The
playback might be slow as well, but it's hard to tell what's going
    on without the sound...
    Any ideas? Thanks!

    UPDATE III:
OK, I figured this out. Hopefully this will help others. I
found a post on the Apple website talking about sample rate
settings in a utility called "Audio MIDI Setup" in OS X. This is
really just a more detailed sound preferences panel (so I don't
know why the h*ll they didn't just make an "advanced" mode for the
prefs panel, instead of making you seek out this special utility
that changes system settings). In it you can change the sample rate
and bit depth for sound input and output into the system. When I
opened this utility the first thing that I noticed was the system
was set up to output sound to the FW unit at 48k sample rate.
So I reasoned correctly that Flash can't output audio output
at 48k. It outputs at 44.1 k or less apparently. As soon as I set
the FW device's output sample rate to 44.1k, audio out of Flash
immediately sounded crystal clear again. The distortion was, I
suppose, system software trying to interpolate the 44.1k sound to
    48k before output.
So the lesson is: pay attention to sample rate settings in
the "Audio MIDI Setup" utility. I just can't believe it took me
this long to find out that the utility exists and that the people
at PreSonus didn't know about it, or this potential issue. But
either way I'm glad I've got the Focusrite unit now and it works
    swimmingly well.

  • IPhone Speaker "Blown" - Is it a DEFECT?

Last week, I brought my iPhone into the Apple store and they replaced it because the speaker (for speakerphone/music) was blown. The problem was that when listening to music, the speaker was very crackly and sounded muffled very often. This problem occurred with all the music that was on it. The replacement phone had the same problem. I brought it in again today, and they said it could be either the speaker, or the sound processor in the phones that is causing the problem. They replaced it one last time, and the latest replacement also has the problem! I have been through 3 4GB iPhones and they all have this problem. However, I compared my 4GB model to the 8GB model in the store, and all the 8GB floor samples didn't have the problem. Anyone know what the real problem is? Is there anyone else who has noticed this problem? Do you think the iPhone is defective?

In regards to the problem you're having, yes you have to compare the two to give you a better explanation why the speaker isn't designed for songs, rather more for voice calls.
Human voice doesn't have much complexity in regards to the frequency it uses vs to that of a song as evidenced on a graphic equalizer. For that reason, the speakerphone can handle voice calls better, having a better frequency response. Songs trigger a more complex frequency on a graphic equalizer (i.e. the graph goes crazy) and the speakerphone speaker isn't powerful enough to handle that.
Play a music with a lot of bass through the speakerphone, you'll hear that it sounds blown. I have the same issue. Try out the the display units in the Apple Store, I bet you'll experience the same thing.
Bottom line is that songs pushes the speaker's limit on the iPhone when it's not truly designed for that function.

  • Creative Labs What Is Wrong With Your Manufacturing!!!??!?! RE: Gigaworks S750, XFI e

Ok this is a straight forward RANT! In building my new computer I decided to let Creative be my folks for sound since I've always been impressed with the EAX and surround sound, the first time I played EQ in 4. 3D sound on a first gen SBLi've card I was in awe. I've bought so many speakers and sound cards since and been happy. So I decide with my new computer I will buy the XFI Fatality, Progamer headphones with mic, and the Gigaworks s750 7. speakers. Well I got the headphones and the sound card first, right off the headphones left side sounded blown out to me, so I sent them back, and the new pair worked fine. The XFI card became the issue next I had the cracking and popping noises, I made a few tweaks and was able to kill most of it, but I have 4 gigs of Ram and when I turn on the memory hole in the bios so that XP Pro 64 can see the 4 gigs brings back the popping noises. So I have to turn of 2 gigs of ram that cost me over $300 so I don't have nasty noise when I play games. Oh yea and I sent the card back as well in hopes I'd get a repaired one.... No Such Luck... So then I get to my speakers, the left rear channel is making a sound like a blown speaker so I swap the plug with another channel and its fine and the other speaker in that channel makes the noise, so I send back the sub as a RMA at a cost of $30 to me (not like giving them $800+ for broken stuff isn't bad enough... nothing like salt on the wound.) So after 2 weeks of no sound other than headphones for my gaming, I get my sub back, I hook it up and.... Now the left rear channel is totally DEAD. So now I'm PISSED, I call up and hold it together when talking to the RMA folks. They offer to send me a whole new set of speakers, so I'm thinking cool, maybe its in a cable or the box or something.... Today I get home from work and see the box, I'm like sweet new stuff and spend a good hour carefully rewiring my whole desk with the new speakers and cables. Get it all hooked up and click on the sound test for the 7. and........ The Side Left Channel is DEAD WTF!!!!!!
!!! All I can say is it sucks there is no real competition for sound against Creative, because they know their product will be the demand and if they put out a poorly manufactured item they can get away with only so many people will even bother RMAing and will just li've with it thinking they did something wrong. I am truly disturbed by this trend and can only hope that after I actually get everything working in 6 months or so if they ever fix the noise issue with XFI and maybe a few more RMAs of my sub to get one they TEST before sending it to me... I hate to say it but I think next comp I build I'm going to have to start looking at other sound companies. Its sad to lose faith in a company you hold in such high regards for so long as pioneers. • Volume balance

My iPod Touch suddenly stopped having equal left/right volume balance.  At the same time, the internal speaker started sounding blown.  I had not used the iPod for a few days, and it worked fine the last time I used it, although I have almost never used the internal speaker.  The balance thing is weird.  At low volume, there is no sound from the right side.  At half volume, the right side has a little volume.  At 75% volume left and right are equal, and in balance.  At high volume (with earphones) the right side dominates.  Could this be related to the software upgrade?

Have you verified that the problem is unique to iTunes (as opposed to say, your audio jack)? Do you ever hear stereo - when the system beeps, when playing a QuickTime movie, etc?
Sometimes the plug just isn't seated correctly in the audio in jack.

  • 1.33 vs. 1.67

I'm right on the verge of buying a 17" Powerbook. I see a nice one on ebay that is the 1.33 mhz but for a good price and with extras.
Can someone tell me if the the 1.67 is really a lot better and why?
A quick reply would be REALLY appreciated since this ebay item is about to end.

    Dear Marty,
About Intel, that's fair enough. I didn't realise you'd be dependent on those programs, sorry for going on about it
The post Oct 05 15 - I bought one when it came out. I had several problems and ended up going through 4 of them before finally giving up and switching to a 17. When I first got the machine I thought it was fab, I particularly liked the brightness of the screen over the previous model.
    a) Terrible sound quality from the speakers - left speaker sounds "blown" - I think it may be related to a change of speaker configuration for this model - the left speaker sits in the subwoofer. Direct comparison with a pre Oct 05 PB (one of which I also owned for 15 months) showed a marked difference in sound quality. Of the 4 I had, there was some variation, but none of them were going to win any sound quality awards.
    b) Lines on screen. I noticed these before reading about them on these forums - faint white lines which gave many solid areas an almost "textured" look, somewhat like projecting the image onto expensive textured writing paper. - I found it annoying, but not critical - but I did notice a very pleasing improvement with the 17, which displayed colours solidly and without "texture".
There is a test, if you are near an Apple Store, display this image on a 15 and a 17 and even your current machine, the top segements should be the same and bottom ones also.

    Discussion here;
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=310990&tstart=0
    c) My Logic board failed
    d) Battery problems - probably batch of bad batteries
    e) Audio Looping problem - also a problem on post Oct 05 17" - where a piece of audio gets stuck for several seconds - I'm hoping Apple will come up with a fix for this, although it's not been too noticeable in the last few days.
So, that is why I gave up on the 15 - and why I'd hesitate to recommend - actually, the lines are the main reason, followed closely by the audio looping.
That said, my experience was unusually unlucky for any consumer, not just an Apple consumer - I'm really not super picky, I was just very very unlucky
As for the two refurbs; the first one is the Post Oct 05 17 - it has DDR2 ram, which is good because it is cheaper to get more - I found a chap on ebay selling original Samung 1gb chips for $80 (Same one that Apple supplies). This machine is the current 17 Powerbook, so the specs are as per the Apple Website - main differences are Dual Layer DVD Superdrive, Improved power handling for better battery life (although PowerBooks won't win awards for this) and a 1680 x 1050 res screen - which I really like, but which some people find too fine. This screen is also rated to be 40% brighter than the previous model
The second machine is the previous model pre Oct 05, which has a 1440 x 900 screen. and DDR (not DDR2) RAM.
As for the 15's, $1599 is the Pre Oct 05 15 which has a 1280 x 840 screen, single layer Superdrive and only 64Mb of video RAM - which may start to look a bit small in a year or two. the $1699 model is the Post Oct 05 15 which I have mentioned earlier.
so, there you have it. If you can stretch to the 1) PB 17, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised - I'm enjoying using this one quite a lot. Extra RAM can be had for $80 per GB if you shop around - I can get you a more specific idea once you get the machine as RAM prices fluctuate according to supplies
As for Sales tax, that's a shame. Being in OR it's nice not to have to worry about it - If you have any friends in OR then you could get delivery to their address. It may even be worth a drive depending on where you are in CA. (in the worst case you could always ship to me There are 3 Apple stores around Portland, it's not impossible that Apple ship to a Store for you, if you happen to be nearby, or even an Apple authorised reseller this side of the border. Just a thought.
Anyway, that pretty much exhausts my thoughts on the matter (and me), now it's up to you.
Best of luck, let me know what you end up doing and I'll help you hunt down some ram.
    Cheers
    Rajesh

  • Loud Pop When Powering On Megaworks 210D

Actually get the loud pop when powering off too. It's kind of annoying but we've been tolerating it. Only now, one of the high range speakers sounds blown. I reckon it's probably the jolt it gets from powering on and off. Can these units be modified to not pop like that? Where can I get replacement speakers?

The Cambridge Soundworks MC50s used to be the same satellite speaker but they seem to be discontinued now. Maybe the replacement for that speaker, the MC55, would be a good choice.

  • Hi everybody, my Macbook air mid 2012 MD 231 suddenly shut down then i can not turn it on. I heard a sound like a fuse is blown or something like that. Did any system break or burnt? I did not charge at that moment. Plz help

my Macbook air mid 2012 suddenly turn off after a strange sound (like the sound òf a fuse has blown or something like that) and I also feel a burnt smell too while i am watching a film on the internet and did not charge the laptop at this moment. The sound was from the left of it, and now just a dark screen , even I tried charging it (still has green light at the charge tool). I bought it on 13st April 2013, not often use.
I love apple and i am so sad that a new product which i seldom use could be break so easily and outstanding. It's so late in my country now but i am too disappoint about the trouble so i am writing with hope of supporting from Apple and the community.
    Please help , thank bro

You will have to take it to an Apple Store for repair.

  • Do i have a blown speaker internally? only getting mono sound..

when i got home today i put on itunes and when to listen to a song with my headphones plugged in... only to find i'm only getting sound out of the left ear! initial reaction is that my headphones are broke, which i wouldnt have been too choked about. but i plugged it into external computer speakers and sound only comes out of the left speaker which means its definitley the computer.. i've done the whole test in preferences and i only get fuzz out of the right ear. is this a blown internal speaker or something? how should i fix it or get it fixed, there is no apple store around where i am. i'd appreciate some help as i am a musician and i bought the macbook to record with logic.. i can't really do it with only the left side
    thanks

Well if the issue is apparent when you're using headphones, it's extremely unlikely that a failure of the internal speakers would be the cause.
Check in System Preferences and make sure that the stereo balance slider is centered (seems obvious, but I've been caught out by this more than once.)
