Sound but no visual on video

When I try to play a video on Facebook, I get the sound, but it is only a black screen. I thought the prob was only with FB, but then I tried to look at a video on Moviefone, and I have the same problem. I changed the website storage settings to unlimited, and I followed all the steps for when having problems running video.
Can anyone help?

Assuming you already disabled hardware acceleration for Flash Player, can you try also doing this for Internet Explorer? In addition, can you post a copy of your DXdiag report?

Thank you for your query, I will do my best to help!
I grasp that you uninstalled the Intel graphic driver and the catalyst control. You reinstalled the Intel driver and now you can view and hear videos on the Internet but you are unable to set the resolution as high as previously.
When I checked the specifications for your notebook I see that you have switchable graphics.
Here are two links that I believe will help.

Please try this process.
1. Download the chipset driver, and both graphic drivers and save them but do not install them yet
2, Delete the chipset driver and install the updated one.
3. restart your notebook
4.Delete the Intel driver and install the updated one
5. restart your notebook
6. Delete the AMD driver and install the updated driver.
You should now have a Catalyst Control Center.
This should now allow you to use the higher graphic card which should support the higher resolution.

What's the video exactly? Open into the QT player and report what it says in the movie inspector or post a screen shot.

Sorry, but you cannot rent nor purchase movies in the UAE, nor can you use the iTunes Store of another country. So the rental and purchase of movies will not be available to you, at least not from your Apple TV.

QT Pro sound but no visual

Hi, When opening certain avi files some have sound but the screen is white. I have converted them in Divx Doctor2 but there is still no picture only sound.
Any suggestions?

Normally the white frame means that the video is using a codec that you don't have installed. If you have installed Divx and 3ivx that would cover most cases. Can you open the file in QuickTime Player and tell us what codec the movie info window says the movie is using?

Sound, but white screen - no video

I have Quicktime 7.0.3 and someone sent me an AVI file. When I opened it, I can hear the sound, but can't see anything. It also opened automatically a webpage titled "Quicktime Components" which listed 3rd party components like ON2 VP3 for Quicktime. It has codecs that are supposed to make all the features of 7.0 work, so I installed it as the directions said, restarted and nothing. I can still hear the sound, but no video. Any ideas on which codec I need and where I can find it?

You have to relaunch QuickTime player for it to pick up the new codec.
If you have done that and are still unable to see the video, hit Command-I to get info on the file in QuickTime Player. It should tell you the codec used to encode the media. post this information (or a snapshot of the Info window) here.

Video with sound but no visual

i purchased video from tv shows. it downloaded ok but when i try to watch on the quick time i get no picture. i can hear the show playing but the screen is solid purple. how can i fix this?

Imbeded Video has sound, but partial or no video.

After viewing imbedded videos for a time, the video ends up going away, but I still have sound. (So I know it's playing the video.) Doesn't seem to matter what site I'm on, the video ends up as a half screen or less, or black screen. I can shut down Firefox and restart it, and all is well again for a time. I get no error message since the video is playing even if I can't see the video part of it, and I can't seem to find any problems anywhere on the system that would be causing this. Since all comes back to normal with a restart of Firefox, I thought this would be a good place to start looking for a fix.

You can check for problems caused by recent Flash updates and try these:
*disable a possible RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin extension for Firefox and update the RealPlayer if installed
*disable protected mode in Flash 11.3 and later
*disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin

White Screen with sound but no visual

I just brought home my new imac a couple weeks ago and today was
my first time uploading videos from my flip camera. On my old mac
laptop (ibook g4) i was able to upload and view them immediately.
But now on my new mac, i get nothing but a white screen and the
audio.... what component do i need to install to see my videos...
I've checked the flip video on another computer so its not happening
on the flip site, but only when i try to play and view the videos
on my new mac...
Please help.. i want to use the new imovie to edit and create, but cant
since quicktime doesnt show any visual....

Having the same problem, but when I import my QT into Final Cut I can see them... I don't know how to fix the QT error, but until someone gives you an answer, you should be able just to import into IMovie and preview from there.

IE10 "An error occurred" in Youtube (but on Google Chrome and Mozilla Fox having no sound but able to play video)

"An error occurred" kept on appearing on Youtube (while using IE10) for all the videos that I tried so far and I also realized that in the advertisement before the video it would keep replaying the advert from the start on its own
until the advert crashed and also showed "an error occurred".
When going to Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox to play the same videos, I was able to play the advertisement and the videos but this time there was no sound at all.
My problem occurred after a Windows 8 update as before that IE was able to play without any problems. Thus I highly suspect that an Windows 8 Update is responsible for this.
I also noticed my mute button on my keyboard having no effect after the Windows update, even though I was able to see the slider for the volume control changing (when pressing the volume increase and decrease button).
Before the update I was able to see the mute button light up with the mute icon shown on the screen, compared to after the update with the mute button basically went dead without the ability to on and toggle the sound at all.
It seems this inability to adjust and toggle the sound affects not only Youtube, but also soundcloud, vimeo (in essence it affects the sound across the board for all applications).
The sound comes back occasionally after my computer starts up again from sleep, hibernation mode, after shutting down and switching on the laptop again so its intermittent on and off.
My Internet Explorer version is IE 10, my Google Chrome version is Version 36.0.1985.125 m and my Firefox version is 30.0.

I got an HDPVR Gaming Edition for Xmas and whenever I try to put it into final cut pro x it is black, but I can hear audio! Earlier today, It was working fine, but i couldn't hear any audio! You need to give us more information. How are you bringing the files into FCP X? What format are they? Do they play in Quicktime Player? Open one in QT Player, and post a screenshot of the Movie Inspector.

Apple TV plays sound, but does not play video on AirPlay

I'm having a strange malfunction with my Apple TV (latest model) and my iPad 2. I have updated both to the latest software.
When playing a video I purchased through iTunes on the iPad 2, if I select the Apple TV via AirPlay, then only sound plays on the Apple TV.
Now, if I attempt to replicate this problem with my iPad 3, there is no problem at all: the video and audio plays without issue.
The network is an AirPort Extreme (extended with an Express)
I've reset the Apple TV, the iPad. Nothing seems to work, anyone have this problem?
Would appreciate any advice!

I am having the same probalem. It's very strange. My ipad will stream videos purchased from Itunes to the apple tv. However, when we try to use my wife's, only the sound comes up. Both apple tv and ipad are fully update and have been restarted. it's bizarre.

This seems to be a problem on my G3, running 10.3.9 with QuickTime 7.3. Any fix for this problem? I can occasionally get a YouTube clip to play, but the sound and the image are way out of synch and the play is very choppy.

My iMac G3 400 sits on the same table top as my newer G4 Mac mini and my XP PC shares a table next to it. The G3 has been "always on" since day one and gives me no trouble.
They all do different things and I use my older iMac for OS 9 and Mac 10.3.9 work.
But the G3 is not a way to view the most modern QuickTime formats and QuickTime is designed to drop frames during playback to preserve the audio portion of the file.
Your son will be getting a G5 machine long before I get one. I had hoped to "skip" the G4 model but money got in the way.
All of my machines share a connection via a router and I can mount any drive and switch OS's with impunity. I can use many out of date applications because of this ability to switch back and forth.
But I can't view modern QuickTime content on the G3 because of it's limitations. I still use it with QuickTime Pro version 6 because version 7 has left some features in the "dust" of modernization.
