Sound Button Not Working (partially)

I just bought New Ipad, Model MD510ZP wit OS version 6.0.1. The probem is I can increase the sound using side button but it doesn't work other way, means I cannot decrease sound using the same button. Could it be a hardware fault. If yes can I claim a replacement as it was just new?

Have you tried a reset to see if it works after the iPad has restarted ? Press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
If that doesn't fix it then you could try restoring to your backup and/or back to factory defaults, but if it's a hardware issue then you will need to contact Apple.

No, just hold down the two buttons. Ignore the red slider, wait for the Apple, then release. Check your buttons when the Home screen redisplays. It is not likely to fix the issue, but again, worth a shot.
If no luck, then as gdmacguy and ckuan have indicated, it will be time for a trip to the Apple store....

It appears like you may have a hardware issue with your ringer button and internal speaker that came to light after the update. If you have already restored your iPhone back to factory settings using iTunes, you may need to have your phone serviced.
Some potential good news... Check your headphone jack for lint. There may be enough to cause a muffled connection. You can try to blow it out with compressed air or very carefully pulling out any solid objects that may affect the connection.

Check out this link - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085. There have been instances where settings have accidentally changed. Double click on the Home button, swipe all the way to the right to reveal the leftmost icon and alternate settings if necessary.

- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.

If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

I just got a T61 with no OS and installed XP Pro and then got drivers from lenovo site. The ThinkVantage button, sound buttons next to it, the hotkeys (FN+F?) and trackpoint center button not working. Any suggestions?

You got install separate Lenovo thinkvantage softwares to make use of these buttons, it should be available on Lenovo.com

Settings > Sounds > Change with Buttons... Make sure this is set to ON.
Basic troubleshooting from the User's Guide is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new). Try each of these in order until the issue is resolved.
If none of the above resolves the issue, take the device to Apple for evaluation or possible replacement.

First, no, it is not showing orange. I checked the silent button immediately. Then I checked the sounds section of my settings, but all is good there. When I get a phone call, it rings fine. Alert and typing sounds are not working.
Second..., yes this was a technical point (in which I was hoping someone else might have had the same problem, with a solution), as well as a complaint (definitely one worth making as it is not a minor issue - it is important to hear text alerts when you have children).

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps

4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. When my iphone 4 is not plugged in to headphones the sound does not work, and if I try to adjust the sound with the plus and minus buttons in the side it comes up like normal saying "Ringer" but then there is no bar underneath it. Sometimes the sound will work for a couple of minutes. However, there is definitely no problem with the speaker as the alarm always works perfectly fine.
I have tried restoring it, this did not help.

No. What he should be doing is syncing his contacts to an app on his computer or cloud service, then sync them back to the phone (without restoring the backup).
Never rely on the backup for contacts. The contact info stored there may be incomplete and is only meant to maintain the recent calls and favorites lists.
