I have cassette tapes that I would like to import into itunes (digital form). Any suggestions on "how-to"?

Griffin's iMic with Final Vinyl (free) is a good choice and you can also use iMic with Roxio Spin Doctor ($$). The quality will be dependent on the quality of the tape and the deck that you plan to use. It is all in real time so it will take 10 minutes to produce 10 minutes of an AIFF file. Then you will need to clean it up with Final Vinyl, Spin Doctor or another choice is PEAK Sound Soap ($$).

To the best of my knowledge, Windows is not capable of setting a specific sound card based on the app being used, it's all or nothing.
Try a google search or search the Microsoft site.

Why such sorry sound quality on iTunes? On some of my purchases the sound level is suppressed on the audio. On others the volume is so low that if I have it set for another song and a new one starts I have to increase the volume to hear it.

There is so much distortion on some of the music I have to play it with QuickTime to get a "clean" track.
What can be done to get a consistent volume level or is this another typical Apple product that you have to take what you get and be happy because it's not a Microsoft product?

Poor Sound Quality with iTunes 8

I just installed iTunes 8, and all of the songs in my Library play with poor sound quality regardless of the view I have open. The sound is really muffled, but the voices and higher frequencies sound tinny and shaky. I tried playing with the Equalizer and Sound Enhancer settings, but was not able to fix the problem.
What can I do to get the iTunes 7 sound back?

I, too, am experiencing a significant decline in the sound quality of recordings in my collection. The recordings sound very muffled on the low, bass end of the sound spectrum, and the treble is significantly diminished. This decline in sound quality occurred immediately after I upgraded to iTunes 8. The sound quality in iTunes 7 was fine, and overall better.
It appears that my iTunes 8 attempts to improve the playback sound quality of songs with 128 kbps bit rates, as these songs in my collection do seem to actually sound better. However, most of my collection are recordings imported at the higher sound quality standard of 320 kbps from CDs that I purchased, and these recordings all sound poor since I've installed iTunes 8.

how come there is no sound coming from itunes 10.3.1? i have tried various time installing & unistalling the program.
i tried looking to find ways to fix this problem but nothing has seemed to work with the problem. I also tried restarting my computer and its still the same problem. this all started when i updated my itunes to the newer version of itunes. the player shows the song i have selected & it shows the song playing but there is no sound. please anything will help.

create new project in iM
add a photo, title, whatever... (placeholder)
add wanted sound effect...
choose share/Quicktime/Expert Settings .. hit button..
new dialog...
choose aiff as export option...
your "movie" is now a plain audio.aiff file, for forther processing in any audio app...

Sound distortion in iTunes and not in other players

Hello,
I've been experiencing some terrible sound distortion with iTunes that I don't have with any other player (WM player for instance).
I installed version 6 and this doesn't fix any issue.
This doesn't cause any problem when transferring files to iPod but still, have to be fixed!
Has anyone a clue or already fixed this in windows XP?

I have same problem with my iTunes 6.
You can try this(Helps for me):
1. From the Start menu, select Settings and open the Control Panel
2. Double-click the Multimedia or Sound, Speech & Audio devices icon,
3. Select Sound and Audio Devices, click the Advanced Audio button
4. Select the Advanced tab then
5. Select the Performance tab and find the Hardware Acceleration slider control
hardware acceleration should be set at full.
sample rate conversion quality should be set at best.

Sound defect on iTunes

Hi, I'm new here so I hope this is the right forum to ask this.
I have a song entitled "Eyes on Me" from the piano collections album of Final Fantasy VIII. I encoded to both .m4a AAC and .mp3 LAME. But I have some problems with the sound in both iTunes and iPod. Somehow, in various part of the song especially at 2:10 until 2:25 I can hear some crackling noise in the background. It sounds like it can't handle the high frequency part of the song. Not to mention the existence of white noise at the start.
I thought this was quality problem or equalizer. I changed the EQ to DEFAULT then back to LOUDNESS, then to PIANO. The noise still exists. I encoded to 256kbps HE-AACplus, then to 320kbps .mp3... All with the same result.
Then I thought it was encoding problem or my earphones. So I tested using other players such as the default Windows Media Player and Winamp on the same file I encoded. The sound was perfect, there's no noise at all. I used the same computer for both tests, the same volume level and the same earphones. It only happen to iTunes, and sadly in iPod as well.
I wish someone could help me with this, how can I solve this problem coz I want to listen to it in iPod?

Never mind. I solved it on my own.
I just need to encode it to MP4/LC-AAC.

Copying cassettes into iTunes

Is there any way of copying a personal home cassette into iTunes and eventually adding it to a CD? Can it be imported via internal microphone and, if so, what has to be done? Thanks in advance.....

As said above, you will need to import the audio via an audio editor. I have used two options:
1. CD Spin Doctor - comes with Toast
- works well and has a few tools to allow you to crop and clean up the audio
2 Audacity
- very nice freeware audio editor. Will allow you to import and then edit the audio. (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac) You can then convert your final file to mp3 and so import the file to iTunes.
Both options require you to play the tape in a tape deck and feed the output into the audio in jack of your mac. My tape player has RCA plugs so I had a lead that converted the RCA to a 3.5mm jack plug.

I am trying to update my RSS via sound cloud to iTunes but having issues.
I currently have my podcast working on iTunes but I have decided to change where I have them hosted. I moved my podcasts over to Soundcloud and currently have the rss feed but I would like to update my iTunes podcast with this so that all my podcasts showing up on sound cloud will sync up and automatically update.

You will obviously need to get this sorted out before you can proceed. Once you have the soundcloud feed working properly you will need to add a special tag to the original feed in order to transfer the Store to using the new feed. The method is decribed here:

Please make sure you are completely clear about it before proceeding, and check that the new feed works by subscribing manually in iTunes before you try moving the Store to it.

Music Cassettes to iTunes

Is there an easy way to get personal family music cassette recordings transferred to iTunes, and then burn to music cd's?

In addition to Jolly Giant/Zevoneer's suggestions you can also have this done commercially (there's a place called SavingTape near me). If it's just one or two tapes it may be as cost effective given the hardware and software expense and learning curve.
One major reason for doing this yourself: I really wanted good sound quality from some scratchy recordings so I had to go to the extent of manually editing the audio to really get out the pops and clicks. There are some software packages that supposedly do this but the ones most mortals can afford don't remove everything undesirable, and/or remove things you want to keep.

Problem with sound in rented itunes series on mac mini (2010) hdmi

I just bought the new mac mini with HDMI. It is connected via HDMI to my receiver Denon AVR 3310. The receiver shows that it has "multi channel in" on the display.
I made all the configurations so that i can watch dvd an the mac mini. When i play a movie with Dolby Digital the receiver does show that on the display and playback is possible without any problems. All my 5.1 speakers play sound.
The big problem is with iTunes. When I want to watch rented series from iTunes Store, for example Dr. House, only 2 speakers of my 5.1 are used. And when I change to surround in iTunes I can only hear static noise.
What is the problem? What is wrong with iTunes?

I am having the same issue.
I have a Panasonic TH-50PX60U, and a Yamaha RX-V2065. The Mini is plugged into the Yamaha via HDMI and Yamaha to TV via HDMI.
Problem: Just to clarify I do NOT have a video problem. That part seems to be working fine, my problem is with audio. When ever I switch inputs on the receiver or turn the system off (not the Mini, that always stays on) the audio defaults back to the internal speaker in the Mini. I have to go into system settings and change it back to the HDMI audio out. This is super frustrating. I'm sorry if I posted this in the wrong area, but it's the only thread that looked like it might have an answer. Thanks!
