Sound Check in iTunes 10.6 is different versus Sound Check in iTunes 8.2

Hi. My OS is Windows 7 Pro-64.
I have lots of CD and I decided to convert them  in an mp3 library imported in iTunes (and “manually” in an iPod Classic) with Sound Check on (either in iTunes, or in iPod). I managed it with Windows XP and  iTunes 8.2 till last year. I always verified the Volume adjustment of each mp3 and the correlated hex values written in the field iTunNorm (using mp3Tag). So far I was quite satisfied of Sound Check because I use iPod like a “juke-box” (I don’t need a per album normalization).
Last year I updated to Windows 7_64 and to iTunes 10.6 and I went on importing other mp3 files (from my CDs). But, with some test, (I imported the same file using iTunes 8 on a PC and using  iTunes 10 on  a different PC) I realized (with a very high probability) that:
iTunes 10 apparently don't write iTunNorm tag anymore in the file mp3. I have a Volume adjustment, but with mp3Tag I can’t read any iTunNorm field with the famous ten hex values.
iTunes 10 and iTunes 8 use a different way to calculate Sound Check; Volume adjustments calculated with iTunes 10 are lower of about 0,75-1,25 dB in average against iTunes 8. But sometimes  the difference may be very high (-3,5 dB or -5dB for example in iTunes 10 versus iTunes 8).
When I updated to iTunes 10, my old library has been converted into the new format iTunes 10, but the old Sound Check (calculated with iTunes 8) did not change (no new calculation). So when I add new files to the library with iTunes 10, I have a discontinuity with the old files imported from iTunes 8 as far as Sound Check is concerned: the new files sound lower in average than the old ones.
I don’t want to delete and re-import all my files in order to reset and homogenize the whole library (I’d lose all statistics and I’d waste lot of time to pass the file in iPod). And I don’t want using third part software like iVolume.
My questions:
Is it correct what I wrote at the point 1, 2, 3 stated over here and mainly at the point 2 (Different way to calculate Volume adjustments of iTunes 10 versus iTune 8)?
Did iTunes 10 stop to use iTunNorm field to write Check Sound info in mp3 files?
If not, where iTunes 10 write Sound Check info  to the mp3 file and how can I read it?
What can I do to avoid the discontinuity in Sound Check values due to the use of iTunes 8 and iTunes 10?
Thanks in advance for your answers.

Assuming that one has the 'Sound Check' feature
selected in both iTunes and on the iPod, do the
volume changes take place when obtaining the audio
via the 'line-out' port on the dock connector?
For the 3G and earlier iPod's, no, Line Out is not affected by Sound Check.
For the 4G and later iPod's, yes, Line Out is affected by Sound Check.
Do some iPods work and others do not? Specifically,
will my iPod mini (2nd Gen) send the adjusted volume
through the dock connector?
I have only actually tested the 3G and 4G models, I cannot say what other models do with any kind of reliability. I would expect that the Mini's would have the Line Out to be soundchecked, but I cannot say that for certain.
Any way of using another method to bring the song
volumes into a more reasonable range?
MP3Gain and AACGain. These modify the MP3/AAC files directly, so after using them, turn off Sound Check everywhere.

  • Itunes 7- can two different ipods run on same itunes?

i have a 30gb ipod video and my husband has a nano. i have itunes on my computer twice in different user accounts for our ipods but since installing the new itunes 7 my husbands itunes will not open it gives me an error message. i uninstalled his itunes and reinstalled but then i couldnt open my itunes. i reinstalled itunes 7 and now i am back to my original problem.
Can i have my ipod and my husbands nano run from the same itunes? will my library be added to his nano and will his nano library be added to my itunes? please help this is frustrating me.

    tean5289,
This article addresses using multiple iPods on the same computer.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300432
Method Two in the article is the method my wife and I have used in the past. I had mine set up to sync my playlists, plus the recently added playlist. That way if she added any music, I had 2 weeks that it would show up on my iPod, and give me time to move the song to one of my own playlists.
i have turned the fast switch for the user accounts
off. when i log into my husbands user account and
open his itunes it still tells me that it cannot be
opened an unknown error has occured.
anyone know a soloution? hence my original question
can ipod video and nano run from one itunes library?

  • Can windows xp use a different sound card for itunes - I want to use a sound card for itunes and another for all other apps

Can Windows XP use a different sound card for itunes - I want to use a sound card for itunes and another for all ther apps

To the best of my knowledge, Windows is not capable of setting a specific sound card based on the app being used, it's all or nothing.
Try a google search or search the Microsoft site.

  • 2 people with different taste of music, using ITunes on one computer.

How do two people with two different I-pod devices use ITunes on the same computer without seeing the other persons song library?
Story: Our house has one computer. Mom has a Nano and likes older people music; kid has I-pod Touch and likes young kids music. When I import my music CD's, the songs get mixed in with my kids music and auto sync puts all our music on both devices. ( I would like to Auto sync my device because I am not real good with computers and auto sync'ing would be easier; I think ). If I created 2 different Library files, how would I get the auto sync for my Nano to sync with my library?

    Hi nanonewbee,
Better to create separate playlists and then (bite the bullet - this is a lot easier than trying to create a second library)....plug in one of the devices. Click on the device and when the "device Profile" screen appears:
    - Click on the Music tab
    - Check the "Sync Music" option
    - Check the "Selected playlists, albums, artists, and genres button
A list of your Playlists will appear in the box below. Check only the playlist you want for that device.
Smart Playlists are easier because you can set them up to automatically put new music into the correct playlist. But they are a bit more involved than regular playlists.
For regular Playlists, just drag and drop the music you want in it from the library to the playlist on the sidebar.
    Cheers,

  • How do I sync different iPhones on the same iTunes account?

I want to be able to sync two different iPhones on the same iTunes account. I want to be able to sync different music and movies. Can that be done?

"is there anyplace I watch a tutorial for this?"
Not really. And it's not that difficult at all.
Plug it in, select it and select what you want to sync.
" An APPLE rep told me to check Sync only checked songs and videos
    Manually manage music and videos"
You can do it this way but it's a lot more work.
(Apple reps are just people like you and me and don't always know everything)
"And he told me to uncheck Sync Music in the music tab"
I would not recommend this especially if syncing more than one device.
Create a playlist (or multiple) for each device.
Select the music tab and sync only the playlists you want. Then add/delete from these playlists to add/remove from the iPhone.

  • How can I update the apps. with the new iTune, that's really silly especially I have two iTune account for different countries

I used 2 iPhones and a iPad, 2 Apple ID for different countries so that I can download apps. from different country.  Its a pain and sometimes no possible to update the apps. on the ISO devices.  Apple really needs to fix this aspect.  Also the new iTunes is so difficult to use, please bring back the old one.

    When Itunes opens
    1) Click on drop dow list button top left under the player controls
    2) Select Apps
    3) At the bottom right there are two buttons, Check for updates and Get More Apps
An Alternative is when iTunes opens in the top menu Click on View, Show Sidebar. Then you will see your apps page as in itunes 10. Click on that option and as before you should have two buttons, Check for updates and Get More Apps.
NB this is all within Itunes NOT the iTunes Store

  • URGENT PLEASE HELP: iTunes Will Play Songs With No Sound.

Hello all. I recently did the following and significantly screwed up my iTunes:
-Tried to move my directory to an external hard drive.
-This didn't work, so I then had to reload my iTunes.
-I did this by doing the standard copying the .xml library file to the desktop, deleting the old library files and importing the new .xml into the iTunes.
-However, I now have music in my iTunes, but when I click on files, they'll play but with no sound. No exclamation point comes up next to them to signal they're missing, but just no sound.
-Tried uninstalling and then reinstalling the latest iTunes. Still nothing.
I also tried dragging a random song into iTunes to see whether it was just a directory mix-up still, but no dice. Right now, the directory for my iTunes is Macintosh HD:Users:name:Music:iTunes:iTunes Music.
    Please help!!!!

Well, that could be, but before thinking of an hardware issue, first check all possible software settings.
    Try this:
In System Preferences>Sound there are two volume sliders.
Set the Output volume about halfway. Now move the Alert volume slider just a little bit. This normally will invoke the Mac to play the selected alert sound.
    Still no sound?
Can you connect a headphone to the PB?
If yes, does it have sound?

  • How do I give each of my email accounts different notification sounds in ios7

I have my work email and my personal email on my phone. I'd like to give each email account a different notification sound so I can tell if I need to check my email then or if I can p let it sit.

Sorry, there is no way to do that under iOS.
By the way, I don't believe this can be done under the Mac operating system either.

  • Why Only when playing iTunes I have no audio, no sound?

Why Only when playing iTunes I have no audio, no sound after setting up Apple TV? Worked fine before that.

I had this problem, too. It was on my phone, though, but it seems to be a problem that many people have.
I have fixed it. It cost me 99 cents.
My phone said I had 247 photos/videos. Itunes said I had 1700+. Both said that Photos & Video were taking up 10.8 GB of storage.
On my phone, I went to Settings --> iCloud --> Storage --> Change Storage Plan
    I selected the 20GB plan for $0.99 a month
Then, I went to Settings --> iCloud --> Photos
I enabled My Photo Stream (slider to the right/green)
Then, I got on WiFi. I don't know how long it took, certainly not long enough to upload gigabytes of data, but I saw that my Photos & Camera app was using a far more reasonable amount of storage (1.3 GB, rather than 10.8 GB). I checked this by going to
Settings --> General --> Usage --> Manage Storage
Because I don't want the 20GB iCloud plan, I went back to
Settings --> iCloud --> Storage --> Change Storage Plan --> Downgrade Options (at the bottom)
... and I selected the 5 GB Free plan again.
    Now for a little rant.
I am very unhappy that I had to give Apple one thin dime to have this fixed. After spending a couple of hours trying to figure out why I can barely use any storage on my phone, I had to pay to fix it. Ridiculous.
I still enjoy using Apple products, but I enjoy using them less and less over time. Not only is every release of iTunes less usable than the previous one, the last one wouldn't even install on my machine. That was about another six hours lost trying to figure out the problem.

I have two separate itune accounts under two different email accounts and would like to combine them under one account.  Is this possible and if so, how do I do it?

If you go to Settings > iTunes & AppStore , you can sign out from your account, and sign in with the one you've used to purchase apps. This will not remove any apps you already have on it.
Then you can go to AppStore and download apps you've purchased (either via "Purchased" button in "Updates", or simply search for them and download them.
That way you can have multiple accounts' apps on your iPad. When updating, you will be prompted for the credentials for account you've purchased given App with.

  • I'm trying to get my itunes media from two different PCs onto my iPhone

After purchasing media from iTunes (same iTunes account) on two different computers (1x Win Vista desktop and 1x Win XP laptop), is there a way to get all of this media onto my iPhone (3GS)? I was very dissapointed to see that you can only sync one computer at a time which surprised me because usually Apple products are a lot more user friendly and from my humble experience, I have generally found Apple products to just make since although this problem is seriously aggravating. I am trying to get all of the media that I bought on my laptop (Win XP) to sync with my iPhone (3GS) but since I have already been syncing with my desktop (Win Vista), it wants to erase everything that I already had on my phone, including invaluable photos that I have taken of my children and media that I have purchased on the phone itself. This process has already deleted all of the music that I purchased on my phone (I am assuming that I can't get this music back or at least the music that wasn't backed up yet to my desktop). Is there anyway to get all of my media onto this phone and keep the media that is on my phone already or should I just go back to using my HTC Tilt since it has proven to be a lot more user friendly? One would think that Apple would appreciate you purchasing media from iTunes anywhere that you could but it seems that Apple penalizes you for purchasing from iTunes from more than one computer. I have tried to access my iPhone through the "my computer" folder on my Win XP laptop but my iPhone does not show up in this folder (although it does show up in my Vista desktop "my computer" folder). Can anyone please point me in the right direction to find a solution as this problem has been extremely frustrating. I would very much appreciate all the help that anyone could give.

Will iTunes allow me to do this? I'm not really all that familiar with Windows computers. I have recently had to move to a PC because my $3000 macBook Pro died one month after the warranty was up. How could I get iTunes to accept media from another computer?
