Sound click/pop and then stops

hi,
this started a few days ago:
when playing songs in itunes, after 10min or less, i hear a loud PLOK and then sound stops...
itunes (6.0.5) keeps playing the song, i can see that, but i get no sound.
if click the pause button and it "ploks" again.
if click play again it "ploks" once more but still i get no sound.
i have to shut my mini down and let it rest for an hour before i can play my songs again - but they only play for a few minutes and the PLOCK comes again.
it just happens with itunes. when playing videos on quicktime everything works fine.
any ideas?
thanks

oh well...
the only solution i found was to go back to 6.0.4 version
2 do that, had to delete/uninstall itunes as explained at
http://macosx.com/tech-support/is-there-a-way-to-actually-uninstall-itunes-from- mac-os-x-tiger/9744.html
and than download and install the older version from
http://www.oldapps.com/downloadiTunesmac.php
works ok now. no more 'plok'

  • Sound "pops" and then stops in iTunes

I've search these discussions but haven't found anyone with this problem.
I listen to my iTunes library with headphones while working on other programs. Frequently I'll hear a "pop" and then the sound is dead. I'll switch to iTunes and notice that the song is still playing. If I click the pause button and click it again to start playing the song again, I'll hear the "pop" and the sound is back on.
What gives? What causes this? How can I stop it from happening? It's really annoying.

Thanks JIMacG5. You are right that the pop then dead sound happens when another application also has a sound, although not always. I can hear my email chime and the songs in iTunes continue playing. Sometimes when I click the back button in Firefox the sound from iTunes dies but sometimes not. The only thing I know for sure that it only happens with iTunes. I also use my headphones to listen to DVD's and it has never happened with that software.
Oddly, it's a comfort to know that someone else is experiencing this same problem. That means that it is not just my machine. I am sorry though that others are also affected by this problem.
If this is an iTunes 7 issue, I hope they resolve it with the next update.
One workable solution for me is to listen to my iPod instead of iTunes but that seems silly since my computer is right in front of me.

  • FAQ: Tips/Fixs for clicks, pops and glitches in sound ca

I have come across this little article from the internet while surfing and thought it could be of some use posting it here. Follow the link below.
Tips/Fixs for clicks, pops and glitches in sound card
If after following the tips on this page you are still having troubles, then contact support or wait for other peers in the forum for further advise and suggestion.
This particular phrase that's quoted from the article which is very true.
"This is a HUGE topic and I have come across it many times. The hardest thing to do in tech support is to explain to someone that the fault is not to do with the audio card, but instead with the way the computer is setup or the fault of components in their system. Pcs are built to a budget and parts do suffer because of this."

I know this stuff is 3 months old but I just got mine and hadn't yet used the pin function so now I know.
I hope you are right Nancy that it will have updates, but I really doubt it. This is the norm for Microsoft when stuff they put out bombs. Dish Network had a DVR receiver many years ago that had Microsoft software installed and it was buggy to say the least. They updated it a few times but then abandon it. For a few years Microsoft wouldn't release the code to Dish Network to allow DN to fix the bugs. It was a real "Hate Microsoft" time for those users. DN had to put out their own coded DVR receivers and let the Microsoft ones die.
I think VZ made a deal with MS and removed the stuff MS wasn't supporting. Then VZ put them out without needing a data package to unload them.

  • I have just started with apple tv. I rented and downloaded a movie from itunes on my macbook pro and tried to watch it. I got the movie up, but it only played a picture for about 3 seconds and then stopped, also no sound? What am I doing wrong?

Please help me play a rented itunes video on apple tv. Have a pictue and movie runs for about three seconds, and then stops. No sound? But I can play any music from my library with sound?

Is the movie still buffering? you may have a slow internet connection. Music files require far less bandwidth than movies.

How do I get the keyboard in the notes section of the ipad to pop up? It was working all day today and then stopped.

I find it's touchy.  Tap anywhere on the note to bring up the keyboard. If you tap and hold, you won't bring up the keyboard. Just tap momentarily.
If you can't get it to work, try restarting your iPad.  Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until a red slider appears, then drag the slider. Then press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
If it still doesn't work, try resetting your iPad.  Press and hold both the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

Ring duration & voicemail are all controlled by your carrier. Your issue seems to be voicemail...doesn't appear to be setup on your phone. I'm not aware of any carrier that permits a cell phone to ring longer than 30 ~ 40 seconds, so that appears to be normal. Contact your carrier as it looks like your issue is voicemail.

it seems to work when you reset the port
try this only after you've made sure that any antiviral/firewall software isnt blocking iTunes and the internet connection settings are fine
    1. go to windows, accessories and right click on command prompt and run as administrator
    2. type in netsh winsock reset (i know sounds ridiculous but it works type WITH SPACES) and press enter
    3. Message saying "winsock reset successful now reboot your computer"
    4. restart your computer, and open iTunes..backup should run much smoother and faster
5.Click on iTunes store might be working now

how do i get itunes or any other program for ipod to play one song and then stop instead of contiuing playing. I need it to be in the same playlist and ready to play the next song when I press play?

Good luck.  I tried to do this to cue sound effects for a theater, and never found anything.  iTunes will definitely *not* do this, nor was I able to find any player that would play one song at a time in a single playlist.
In my case, I ended up using AutoHotkey to tie individual tracks to the keys on an external keypad. This was an excellent solution for my problem, but I don't think AHK runs on Macs.
One workaround is to make a folder, and fill it with *shortcuts* to the songs you want (ie, the actual files).  You can change the names to start with numbers to get them in the right order.  Then if you double-click on one it will play just that song.  You'll still have to double-click on each song.
Might be a good time to learn AppleScript   It would  also be pretty easy to write a Java app to do this.

  • Scanner pauses and then stops mid-scan

Just replaced hard drive.  Thought the problem with scanning would go away with the new computer. Both computers are set up wirelessly and the print function works like a charm with both computers. The problem is when I am scanning multiple pages, it pauses quite a long time between pages and then stops. I get an error message on my computer that there is a problem and we have to do the scan again.  REMINDER...brand new computer. Same old problem.
I was on Windows 7 before and am now on 8.1.  Doesn't sound like a Windows problem.
    Thanks!

    Hello @SackyBoo,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I would like to work with you today with resolving the scan issue that you're experiencing when attempting to scan wirelessly from your HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer to your Windows computers. Thank you for including that the this scan communication error occurs on two computers. Because of this I do not think this is a Windows issue, or a printer issue. Rather, I believe that there is something within your Wireless network that is blocking scan communication.
Scanning, unlike printing requires 2-way communication. With 2-way communication the computer and printer 'talk' back and forth as they transfer the scanned image. When you have a wireless network the router may intermittently 'see' the printer as a threat trying to access the network and will block that communication, resulting in a scan communication or scan error. I am going to run you through some steps below to ensure that no security software on your computer is blocking the printer. If the issue persists, I will provide you with the settings that may have to be adjusted on your router to prevent this issue from occuring again.
    Step 1: MSCONFIG:
Open your Start screen by selecting the Windows button on the bottom left of your computer screen or by selecting the Windows key on the bottom left of your keyboard, to the right of the Ctrl button
Once you Start screen opens type Run. Click on Run to launch the Run dialogue box.
If you're still using Windows 7 on another computer you simply click on the Start menu and in the 'search programs and files box' type Run and hit enter on your keyboard.
In the Run box type services.msc and select OK
When the System Configuration Window opens select 'Selective Startup' and uncheck Load Startup Items
Click the Services tab. Check the box at the bottom for Hide All Microsoft Services
    Select Disable All
    Select Apply and OK
    Restart your computer when prompted
When you computer comes back on please try a multi-page scan again. If everything works fine than either a background program running on your computer or security software running on your computer is blocking the scans intermittently. You would have to enable each startup program one at a time to figure out which background program is causing this issue. I can walk you through this process.
If the scanning issue persists, than it is not your computer causing the issue. Rather, there is most likely something on your network. Please proceed to the next step.
    Step 2: Check Router Settings:
If you're not sure how to check the settings below you may need to speak with your router manufacturer.
The following ports need to be opened on your router:
    Incoming (UDP) Ports:
    137, 138, 161, 427
    Outgoing (TCP) Ports:
    137, 139, 427, 9100, 9220, 9500
The follow settings may need to be adjusted:
    Mac Filtering should be OFF
Firmware on router needs to be up to date
Firewall on router may need to be OFF for testing
    Multicasting must be turned ON
If you're using a dual band router you must be on the 2ghz band. Printers are not supported on 5ghz connections.
Once these settings have been adjusted please test scanning again.
Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should the issue persist, please include the exact error message that you get when scanning stops. I look forward to hearing from you!

  • I am trying to download iTunes on my new desktop computer (Windows 7, 64 bit).  It starts installing, and then stops with the message- "The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation."  I am the sole user- please help.

I am trying to download iTunes on my new desktop computer (Windows 7, 64 bit).  It starts installing, and then stops with the message- "The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." This is a stand alone computer and I am the sole user.   Please help.

This is a Microsoft Windows Issue.
    From a MS Support Engineer:
    "Hi,
    ·        Is the computer on a domain?
    ·        Is the issue isolated to only this software or you get the same error message with other software’s as well?
Try the steps below and check if it helps.
    Step 1:
Run the software setup file as an administrator and check if it helps.
    a. Right click on the setup file of the software that you are trying to install.
    b. Select “Run as administrator”.
    Step 2:
Temporarily disable the antivirus software running on the computer and check if you are able to install the software.
    Disable antivirus software
    Warning:
Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.
    Step 3:
    a. Click Start, type "Local Security Policy" (without quotes) and press enter.
    b. Click on Software Restriction Policies.
    c. In the right pane, double click on the "enforcement".
    d. Select “All users except local administrators”.
    e. Click Ok and restart the computer and check if the issue is fixed."

I forgot my password and am trying to reset my ipod, but it won't work.It says that my ipod is in recovery mode and that I must restore it. I click ok, and then click on restore and update. Then it says connecting ipod software update server and a screen pops up with ipod software update on the top and iOS 5.1. It lists a bunch of stuff this update contains and on the bottom it says next, which I click and nothing happens, it just goes back to the ipod restore page. Help, what am I doing wrong?

This device is not eligible for the requested build (Also sometimes displayed as an "error 3194")
Update to the latest version of iTunes. Mac OS X 10.5.8 (Leopard) users may need to download iTunes 10.6.3.
Third-party security software or router security settings can also cause this issue. To resolve this, followTroubleshooting security software issues.
Downgrading to a previous version of iOS is not supported. If you have installed software to performunauthorized modifications to your iOS device, that software may have redirected connections to the update server (gs.apple.com) within the Hosts file. Uninstall the unauthorized modification software from the computer.
Edit out the "gs.apple.com" redirect from your hosts file, and then restart the computer for the host file changes to take affect. For steps to edit the Hosts file and allow iTunes to communicate with the update server, see iTunes: Troubleshooting iTunes Store on your computer, iPhone, iPad, or iPod—follow steps under the heading Blocked by configuration (Mac OS X / Windows) > Rebuild network information > The hosts file may also be blocking the iTunes Store. If you do not uninstall the unauthorized modification software prior to editing the hosts file, that software may automatically modify the hosts file again on restart.
Avoid using an older or modified .ipsw file. Try moving the current .ipsw file (see Advanced Steps > Rename, move, or delete the iOS software file (.ipsw) below for file locations), or try restoring in a new user to ensure that iTunes downloads a new .ipsw.

  • I have an apple tv 3 but when i use Home Sharing from my Windows Laptop the Apple TV shows all my music on the TV but it will only play 1 or 2 songs and then stops!!! Annoying, so I have to re-start iTunes on my Laptop and it will play 1 or 2 more songs

Can anyone assist me with this issue?
    Thanks

To downgrade, you'll need to download the previous software version here: ATV3 http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4361.20120605.grjot/AppleTV3,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
    ATV2: http://appldnld.apple.com/AppleTV/041-4362.20120605.t8i4U/AppleTV2,1_5.0.2_9B830 _Restore.ipsw
Next, plug the Apple TV into your computer with a micro-usb cable (most phones today use these) and start up Itunes. It should detect the Apple TV in recovery.
After that, hold down Option on Apple or Alt on Windows and click Restore. This should open a window that allows you to select the software update you want to apply. Select the one you downloaded earlier.
It will then go through the restore process, which takes only a few minutes, and then you will be able to plug the Apple TV back in to your display and set it up again.
I recently ran into a similar issue with a bunch of these things and after restoring them all to the previous software version they are working again.

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

In Itunes store, song preview plays for only 5-10 seconds and then stops. Songs in my Itunes library play entirely from start to finish.

My Itunes previews have been playing fully now for the past few days. After trying every suggestion possible to fix the problem of 5-10 second previews, I took the advice on one feed to use OpenDNS for your network internet connection. There are internet sites that will instruct you how to do it. Just Google "opendns for (your operating system)". I have Windows XP and followed a video instruction at www.top-windows-tutorals.com/using-opendns.html. Afterward, close your browser and then flush the DNS Resolver cache; Start/Run, type CMD in the open field, click OK, in resulting window type ipconfig/flushdns, press return on keyboard. No guarantees, but my browser is faster and my Itunes previews are playing fully so far. But I still shudder every time I hit the preview button.
