Sound crackles on my new imac

I bought this item a week ago now, and ever since I got it the sound keep crackling i notice it a lot when I am playing a DVD or Runescape :S it's doing my head in!! the crackling sounds like I am spam clicking my play/pause button :S  it but i ain't should I take it back to the store?

i notice it even more than I'm playing both runescape and a DVD at the same time - the worker said imac are super good for gaming, yet it can't cope with a game and dvd at the same time?

  • Why is the sound fluctuating on my new imac in iTunes?

I am just bringing the content of this forum over to apple's as it seems there are a few people having issues with 'fluctuating sound levels' on iMac and other apple products.http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?p=19101290#post19101290

If that does not work try the following
    Shut down the computer
Unplug everything even power and ethernet then start up. Then replace everything.
    If this has no effect
go to system preferences … user … groups …(unlock) set up a new user …log out of current user and in to new user …
If still happening try listening to iTunes with all other apps switched off i.e. mail in order to see if another app is effecting the sound somehow.
Try loading media file directly onto computer and playing it from there rather than an external drive (if applicable) to check if the drive connection is not causing issues.

  • What is the best way to hook up my Creative Labs Inspire 5.1 sound system to my new iMac?

We recently purchased a 27" iMac and want to use our Creative Labs Inspire 5.1 sound system with it.  How do we make this connection to get the most out of the sound system?

If I am not mistaken, your 5.1 came with 3 plugs that are meant to go into a regular PC. If that's the case, you should have received a Y like cable, that connects any none channeled sound source, like an iMac, and helps distribute it as 5.1. But they also make a curious USB device to help connect it.

An outboard audio device, if you really want to get the max out of your 5.1.
Unfortunately that is a Windows only device:
    System Requirements
    Minimum System Requirements
Microsoft ® Windows ® 7, Windows Vista ®, Windows XP (Professional x64 Edition, Service Pack 2 or above)
    So it won't work.

  • Sound level too high new iMac

I see many complaints about low sound, but i have the opposite problem.  Whether I use the earphone jacks or my USB headset, the sound level is uncomfortably high.
The only way I can make it at all reasonable is to drag the volume down to where it shuts off and then go into Control Panel to unclick the "Mute" box, leaving the volume bar where it is.
Is there any way to recalibrate this so that the volume slider is useful?

If the audio is clipped there's not much you can do other than re-record. But there is this: http://www.izotope.com/products/audio/RX/

  • Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 clapping and crackling issues with Logic Pro x new iMac 27"

Hi,  I have just purchased a brand new iMac and downloaded Logic Pro x,  I also purchased the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 interface.  I have downloaded the drivers from the focusrite website and everything is set up,  when I plug in guitar or mic I get really bad clapping and crackling to the point where the sound cuts out altogether.  I have changed buffer size and sample rates and everything else I can think of but nothing seems to fix the problem.  I also deleted the 2i2 drivers and logic and reinstalled them both but still have the same issue,  when I record using the iMac built in mic everything is fine so it's deffinately something to do with the interface.  I am waiting to hear back from Focusrite tech help.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having a similar issue which might indicate that the problem is not your interface.
Yesterday I migrated all my stuff from my 2009 iMac to a brand new iMac 27", and when I did a quick test to play back some old projects in Logic there was loads of annoying clicks and pops. My interface is a Roland Octa-Capture.
I also noticed some weird CPU spikes from time to time, which I never had on my older, much less powerful iMac...

  • Brand new iMac 27 has no sound

A buddy just got a brand new iMac 27, out the box last night. It has no sound.
He went to Systems Preferences and the Sound page provides no solution. Nothing can be clicked.
I know the solution is probably insanely simple, but cannot figure it out.
    Help please.

The simple solution is take it back to Apple and ask them to fix it.

  • Brand new iMac will not boot, just make's funny "bonk" sound.

I have a brand new iMac (Intel, 20-inch flat panel). Just out of the box. Ran through set-up wizard. Used firewire to transfer files from an old CRT iMac. All was good for about an hour.
Tried to empty the trash. Finder says Trash was emptied, but, if I open the Trash, the 50-odd files I just deleted are still visible! If I try to select one, its icon immediately disappears. Hmmm....
I decide it's time to restart.
Upon restart, computer will not boot.
I push the power button. I hear the startup chime as usual. Screen lights up gray. But no apple logo on the screen. There is a long pause. Screen remains gray. Computer then starts making a soft "bonk" sound every 4-5 seconds. (Kind of hard to describe the sound, just imagine clipping the very first fraction of a second of the normal Mac startup chime, and repeating it every couple seconds.) This continues indefinitely.
If someone has experienced this, or has advice, please let me know your thoughts. Feeling rather bummed. Thanks in advance!!!
    iMac Intel 20-inch 2.16 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Boot from the Install Disk 1
I cannot boot at all (see my post above). The
machine just sits there with a blank gray screen.
I appreciate the article link, though. I've already
read it and it will make a great reference for the
future, provided I can get back to a place where this
    iMac actually runs.
Since you're new to Macs, I'm sure you don't realize that while your iMac is sitting there with only a gray screen, you can insert/push in "Install Disc 1" - and it will be accepted. Then press and hold down the power button until iMac shuts down. After waiting a few seconds until everything has settled, press power button and immediately upon hearing the usual Mac startup tone/chime/chord hold down the "c" key until you see the spinning progress indicator below the Apple logo. It will boot to the DVD, you will be able to use (from the Utilties pull-down menu) Disk Utility to "repair" the hard drive directory, then you will be able to quit the installation process, choose Startup Disk from that same Utilities pull-down, and restart your iMac:)

  • I have a Panasonic FZ38 HD camera. I can load and view my hd movies onto iMovie with no problems via my camera or a card reader.  When I try to copy my hd videos from my old Windows pc to my new iMac, the picture speed has doubled but the sound is normal.

I have a Panasonic DMC-FZ38 HD camera and have lots of hd movie clips stored on my old Windows Pc using Photofun software supplied by Panasonic, which I want to transfer to my new Imac computer.   I am able to copy my most recent movies that are still on the memory card from my camera onto Imovie and view them with no problems at all.  When it comes to copying my old existing hd movies stored on my Windows Pc (and which are no longer stored on a memory card), I discover that when I view them on the Imovie, the speed has doubled but the sound is normal.   In order to transfer my old movies I have copied them back  onto a memory card (SDHC - the same card as previously used) and then put the card back into my camera and then copied them onto my Imac via the camera USB.   I have also used a card reader but get the same result.     If I view the same movie through my camera, or look at it on my old pc, it plays at normal speed.    Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening please?

have you read and watch the Tutorials..? :
    http://www.apple.com/ilife/tutorials/#imovie
iM is a bit.. iffy, when it comes to the definition, what a 'camera' is. historically, only tape based machines were a movie-camera. nowadays still-cams allow movin' images too..
but, as mentioned above: the intended workflow is: material from photo cameras (even when they move) => import via iPhoto; material from video cameras (even when they don't move.. ) => iMovie
when the import is done, you'll notice in all iLife apps the 'media browser' - in iM09, on the very right, the icon with a camera on.. click it, presto, all (incl. your 'videos') your iPhoto Library at hand for usage in iMovie.

  • Harman Kardon Soundsticks not sounding with new iMac

I have the original Harman Kardon Soundsticks, which have worked beautifully since the early 2000s, till this new iMac - they're not showing up as an output source in Sound Preference.  I've contacted both Applecare Support - no idea - and Harman Kardon - Apple isn't supplying the drivers anymore.  The thing is, they played just fine with the older iMac just replaced, which was running MacOS 10.7.2.  Drivers are software, right?  Were they just dropped from the OS with this last update, or is there a hardware issue?  The older iMac was a 24", Intel, that I bought in April, 2007.
Anyway, this is very disappointing since the Soundsticks have excellent sound and still work.
Is there a way to get the drivers, or is there also a hardware component?
    Thanks!

Ok, here's what happened in the end.  As I was dismantling the Soundsticks system from my computer and desk area, I discovered that the plug going into the Harmon Kardon power block from the electrical plug was loose.  Aha !!!!  I realized - loose plug!  Let's try again.  And, I did, after ensuring that all other plugs were also snug in their sockets.  And, yes, the Soundsticks have been doing just fine ever since : )
Ok, re. plugs.  There's a cord that runs from the subwoofer to the power block, and it's solid.  Then on the other end of the block is a cable that plugs into the block on one end and the wall on the other.  It was the plug into the block that was lose, and I didn't realize it ' cause it was under the desk, nor did I recall that it could separate from the block.
I was so thankful that the solution ended up being so simple!  . . . and so glad to be able to continue to use that sound system.

  • Strange sounds from my new iMac

I have these strange sounds going out of my iMac, it's from various apps,
How can I monitor where the sounds come from and for what reason?
I've looked in system preferences -> sound
    but nothing were relevant there.
    Thanks!

That's exactly my problem. i don't know which app does it.
I can't record it because it's too fast. sounds like wissshhhhhhh and woooaaaaappppp. very quickly come and disappear..
sorry for the poor data but it's the best i can do.
it's brand new but i won't replace it due to a minor bug that obviously can be fixed thanks to guys / girls like U!
No matter how minor it is, you should NOT be troubleshooting a Mac that has a window of 14 days of the purchase date no questions asked return and/or replacement date warranty.  What you are saying is you have no problem spending $2000+ on a buggy Mac.
    To each its own.

Same here on an older iMac since Lion. Thanks for the uncheck wake for network access tip though, it doesn't do it either in that case, I will leave it that way.

  • Sound Problems With Brand New 24" iMac!

    1) My new iMac has suddenly stopped making alert sounds, such as for incoming Mail, no Mail etc.
    2) I cannot listen to any radio stations on iTunes any more - dead!
Is there a problem with the new iMacs and sound?

All of my other sounds (startup, iTunes purchased music etc.) worked fine. All of my preferences are set OK.
Here's the odd thing: All of a sudden my alert sounds have come back and I can play SOME radio stations through iTunes, but not all.
    This is very strange!

  • Bought a brand new iMac, got free Lion upgrade, installed it, NO SOUND

I went to best buy because I am opening a recording studio and i was sick of dealing with software a driver issues that i was having with Windows. So i bought a brand new iMac, it came factory with snow leopard but i was elligible for the free upgrade to lion, which i downloaded from the app store. I ran installation, and since then i have no audio control, when i go into "sound" settings it shows no audio input or output devices. This is my first time owning a mac so i am very unfamiliar with the operating systems and what not. This is quite frustrating when the main reason i bought this computer was for music and now i have no audio. I bought a Mac so i didnt have to deal with these sorts of issues. haha. if you have any insightful information for me, please shre. thank you.

    Hello:
    Try two things:
Reset the SMC and PRAM (instuctions in knowledge base articles.
If that does not help, either take the computer to an Apple strore or call Applecare.  You are within the warranty period so there should be no cost to you at all.
