Sound deactivated when first boot-up

Hi,
Whenever i first boot-up mu iMac, the speaker or sound is deactivated. i need to restart it to make it appear and function normally.
Pls. help!
thanks

The constant shut down and restart cycle stopped when I cleared cmos. The two problems that I now have are no display and the d-led indicating a mem problem. Could the mem problem cause lack of display or could it be a mobo problem that causes the d-led to report incorrectly? (is this question like asking how long is a bit of string?) The reason that I am suspicious of the mobo is that I suspect it is a repaired one not new, the date on the box is Dec 06 (from a leading UK supplies it seems a bit old to me but!) and both board and box have two serial numbers. (plus the cmos bit) I am hesitant about sending back immediately in case it is something else faulty and I have to return that as well, but maybe I'm being a bit over concerned.
Both drives seem to run and the DVD rw front led flashes but I cannot tell any more because of the lack of display.  I will try powering up with only on mem stick when I get back from work. (BTW mem sticks are in 1&3).

  • Windows 8.1 & Sound Blaster Z First Boot Issue

I'm having a very strange issue with my Sound Blaster Z. I'm not sure if it's a hardware issue, a driver issue, a Windows 8.1 issue, or a motherboard issue.
When i boot the machine, the sound card does not get initialized. I get no sound and dolby digital live does not work. I have a Cambridge Soundworks DTT3500 system and i don't get a light at the bottom that indicates a dolby digital signal from the sound card. However, windows reports that both the sound blaster z and the audio controller are both working normally, no conflicts. There are no errors in the windows event log. If I go into the audio controller, i try to switch between no encoder and dolby digital live, and it's not fixing it.
My motherboard is an ASRock 990FX Extreme9 motherboard.
The strange part is my only remedy to get my sound card actually working is to restart windows without shutting down. This happens every single time. Has anyone else experienced or is experiencing this issue.
This is actually my second Sound Blaster Z card, i rma'd my first one. I upgraded from an Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium PCIE card.
    Thanx

I have the same issus like this guy in this thread. http://forums.creative.com/showthread.php?t=700484
My Soundblaster z is often detectect as a 2- Soundblaster z.
I heard you have to disable complete uefi boot, and disable fast boot options in your bios.

When you disable uefi boot in bios, but you installed windows with uefi. You have to install windows new.
But i still have the Problem with 2- Soundblaster Z. I have disbaled uefi and fastboot but nothing happens. Sometime it is not detected. Now i am back to my old recon3d PCIe, no Problems. Please Creative HELP, i am not the only one

  • Hot Swap disk not being seen on h8-1360t uless attached when first booted - Windows 7 64bit OS

I have used one of the internal SATA connections to create an eSATA connection.  The disk I an using externally is seen correctly when turned on at boot time.  It is not seen if the disk is added after the machine has been already started.
I have ACHI enabled in the BIOS and the insalled driver is the, 'Intel 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family SATA AHCI Controler' , version 12.6.0.1033.
What might I be missing to get the disk to be seen when connected after the machine has been runing for awhile?
This disk is seen corrected on another machine runing Windows 7 32bit - the only difference I can see between these machines is the wokring one is 32bit Windows 7 and the failing one is 64bit Windows 7.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Your PC according to the HP specifications is not full UEFI (perhaps partial) but I don't believe that is your issue. You need to be running a version 8 or 80 BIOS level to be full UEFI.
Did you reboot after installing the latest version of 12.9?
Do you know what SATA level the drive and housing supports?
You might nuc'ing the hard drive and reformat it. Save any data before doing so.  Open ou the RUN window (admin) and enter the following commands:
    cmd
    diskpart
    list disk
select disk x ----> x is the target drive
    clean
    exit
Now go into Disk Management and format the hard drive MBR and assign a drive letter.
There is one last thing to check.  See the below image. All of the SATA ports by default should be AVAILABLE and not marked HIDDEN.  You need to boot into the BIOS (Computer Setup).
Additionally, go into the Control Panel --> Folder options and look at the following settings.
    HP DV9700, t9300, Nvidia 8600, 4GB, Crucial C300 128GB SSD
HP Photosmart Premium C309G, HP Photosmart 6520

  • Jumpstart , smf and scripts on first boot

Could anyone help me I am trying to work out how which is the best way to apply patches and customizations on first boot of a new machine that has just been jumpstarted. Does anyone have a example of a service that runs once to allow me to do this?

I want to be able to not just add patches I need to
add packages make system changes I used to be able to
do this with /etc/rc2.d scripts but now its smf in
solaris 10 and I need to be able to make this changes
at run level 2 and then reboot. You can do it just like before. Put a script in /etc/rc2.d.
You can also create a SMF manifest, and a custom "site" profile to activate/deactivate the services you want. Put them into the manifest and profile directories and they'll be loaded and activated/deactivated at first boot.

Is this true? My iMac does not have iPhoto resident on it now and I only purchased my new iMac in December 2012
    Thanks....

Launch Keychain Access and click on Login in the left hand pane and then on Passwords.  Next do search for Apple in the search field at the top and click on Apple ID Authenicication in the list that comes up.  That will give you the ID no. and password.

    Lao Bo,
yes, you can locate and copy a file from your HD to a USB key using UNIX commands. If you know the exact name of the file which you’re trying to locate, try this:
    find / -iname filename -print
This command will search your entire internal disk for the particular filename. If you know that it’s within a particular user account, then you can save search time with this variation:
    find /Users/username -iname filename -print
Either variation of this command will print all files found which have the given filename. Presuming that you’re able to identify the correct file, you can copy it to a USB key using the command
    cp -p filename_returned_by_find /Volumes/USB_volume
If you’re not sure which volume name your USB key has, this command will show you what the possibilities are:
    ls /Volumes
Please let me know if you have any trouble with these commands.

  • First boot of local zone - how to determine when sysidtool has finished

    Hello,
we use a /etc/sysidcfg in order to do the solaris base configuration automatically. After the first boot of a local zone I recognized that some tools are started by solaris (sysidtool, etc.) which apply the settings mentioned in /etc/sysconfig.
Since we want to script some post-install set-ups I need to know, when the first boot including all "first-boot-scripts" has completely finished. Is it possible to query this information, maybe by calliing a special tool or by looking up some string within an logfile?
I would be grateful for any hints,
    Thomas

I haven't checked, but I assume they have normal dependencies in the SMF tree so that other services don't start until they complete.
I would probably look at the milestone/multi-user-server service and see if it's online yet. If it is, they're probably done.

  • When my Imac first boots up, file sharing doesn't work

27" iMac; about 7 months old
    OS X 10.8.4
    2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5
When I first boot it up, file sharing with the PCs doesn't work.  I have to turn file sharing off then back on, sometimes I have to do it several times, before the PCs will finally connect using their mapped drives.

Move the com.apple.systempreferences.plist out of the stupidly hidden /Library/Preferences/ folder onto the Desktop, restart, and see if the problem persists. If not, reset your system preferences and delete the moved file. Then, update to 10.8.5.

  • My speakers are not working but it still makes a sound when it boots up

my speakers are not working but it still makes a sound when it boots up.

Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried.
    1. Start with the steps recommended in this support article.
    2. If your model has an audio-out (headphone) port, and a red light is coming from it, the internal switch is stuck in the position for digital output. You may be able to free it by inserting and removing a mini-stereo jack of the proper size. Inserting any kind of tool in the port may cause damage that won't be covered by your warranty.
If there's no red light, the switch may still be stuck in the headphone position. Try to free it the same way.
    3. Boot in safe mode. Don't log in; just reboot as usual when the login screen appears. When you do, make sure the words "Safe Boot" do not appear in the login screen. If they do, the system is still in safe mode and sound won't work.
    4. Reset the NVRAM.
    5. Reset the SMC.
    6. Reinstall OS X after backing up all data.
    7. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
I understand that your Thunderbolt display is just showing a black screen when you boot your computer. The following article should be of help in troubleshooting your display.

  • Windows bootup sound is not coming most of the times when i boot the lap..

    dear,

and when we opening a folder, then i will be also giving some sound in windows xp and windows 7. but this is not giving in windows 8.
is this is, laptop problem or windows 8 os problem ?
will you please suggest me, which could be the issue.
    best regards,
    paulpandian m.,

    Hello Paulpandian,
The reason it does not play may be due to the fast startup option within windows 8/8.1.
You can read more about the subject through the following link.

  • MacBook Pro freezes when idle and while first boot.

Hi everyone, sorry for my english i'm not a native speaker.
    I have a problem with my MacBook Pro "Core i7" 2.2 15" Late 2011 (MD318LL)
    Specs:
    - Intel I7-2675QM 2.2GHz
    - 4Gb 1333 DDR3
    - Radeon HD 6750M and Intel HD Graphics 3000
    - 500 GB (5400 RPM)
I bought it while i was in USA it was refubished
Everything was fine while i was in USA.
In russia (yep i'm from russia) macbook started to freeze while first boot (while it cold) and in idle (only in mac os x 10.8.2, i think it's becouse macbook cools down, in windows efi don't give acces to intel hd 3000, so macbook stays hot: cpu 60C\140F )
I changed ram,hdd nothing helped. Ran Apple Service Diagnostic nothing wrong (except for hdd test: error -33000 [wrong drive type] but i think it's becouse of ssd (i changed hdd to ssd to test if hdd is ok)).
Reinstalled Mac OS X same, installed windows same.
Everything fine in startup manager, or while installing mac os x, or while downloading mac os x (cmd+r in start up manager) and laptop is cold.
In games, programs, test everything fine. I think that problem in microcrack (hair crack not sure how in english). Any ideas? Ask any question.

I'm having the exact same issue. It came out of nowhere. I think I should get it serviced first and if will still have it, I will get it fixed.
I have Macbook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo with 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3. I bought this in early 2011 which is 2010 Model.

  • OSD Failure - Windows 7 - Blue Screen on First Boot in Full OS

    Hi,
We are experiencing a really strange problem with our OSD which is hard to pin down. Our setup is SCCM 2012 R2 with 4 PXE enabled DP's (VMWare VMs) across 2 data centers and on seperate hosts and we are delivering Windows 7 (32 and 64) with recaptured WIM
files. Ouor deployments work fine for around a week and then they suddenly start experiencing a reboot look and blue screening at the first boot into the full OS.
This occurs on multiple different physical machines and we inject driver packages for different builds with WMI filters on motherboard as is common. The really weird part is that this will work for days then stop working. The only workaround we have is to
recapture the WIM file (we have a build and capture task sequence for this) and then it works again, even though the content and drivers are exactly the same from the same B+C task sequence. Even the windows updates are the same with no new ones. It doesn't
seem to be the drivers themselves but rather the process of DISM injecting them offline in windows PE which appears to break the registry. The last thing we see before blue screen is "Updating registry" in windows 7 boot.
These are the things we have tried are...
     - Recapturing the WIM (works for around a week but not a fixed period)
     - Host the WIM on a physical DP (to rule out VMWare) with only the WIM and a single driver package. Again this worked fine for a week or so.
     - Built several different physical machines. All fine but when this stops, it stops for all of them
     - If we remove all drivers but the LAN driver it can work but our testing has ruled out a specific bad driver as we have used different models of machine and if it was, then it would never work.
     - We have set the TFTP block size to default of 1024 (we had it higher as 8192) to rule out the boot image being corrupted on download. It made no difference other than being a lot slower.
     - Compared MD5 hashes for the WIM to rule out corruption.
     - Removed and redistributed the WIM and drivers to different DP's (that it had never been on before)
The DISM.log on a failed device shows entries like
CBS Failed to unload offline registry: {bf1a281b-ad7b-4476-ac95-f47682990ce7}C:/Windows/System32/config/SOFTWARE, the client may still need it open. [HRESULT = 0x80070005 - E_ACCESSDENIED]
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. This question on
    Dell's forum sounds very similar.
What we are really struggling with is why would the same WIM, with the same driver package, from the same distribution point, to the same physical machine, work every day for a week the permanently break? Aaargh!
    Thanks everyone,
    Shaun

I have two hard drives on my mac 10.5.8 power pc and hear the clickking sounds of the first hard drive and think that it may be dying, can I install everything on the other hard drive also and wait for the first drive to die before i use the other drives? Or, what is the best way to handle this?

I do not know what you are waiting for.
I'd make a backup of your important stuff before cloning the entire disk.
Carbon Copy Cloner will copy your startup drive to an external  firewire drive.  You can boot from the external drive to verify that you have a good clone. When you upgrade your existing startup drive, you can at any time boot from your external drive and go back to your existing system.

SuperDuper is the wildly acclaimed program that makes recovery painless, because it makes creating a fully bootable backup painless. Its incredibly clear, friendly interface is understandable, easy to use, and SuperDuper's built-in scheduler makes it trivial to back up automatically. And it runs beautifully on both Intel and Power PC Macs!

  • 4 days old MBP 13". First boot up showed charge of 100%, next boot up showed battery fully charged but the percentage read 98% in the subsequent boot ups the battery is fully charged but percentage reads 96%. Whats wrong??

I recently purchased a 13" MacBook Pro. On my first boot up, the battery charged to 100%. I didn't operate this thing on the battery. The next time I booted this thing up, the battery was charged but the meter read 98%. In the subequent boot ups of this machine, and I still having not used the battery, my battery is fully charged but the meter now reads 96%. IS there some problem with the hardware or the software? Help is appreciated!!
    Thanks.

hey thank you for the info. Based on what happened, the battery has gone up to 100% just once when I booted this machine for the first time. On subsequent occasions the Battery Charged symbol has appreard at below 100% charging. I have been using my MacBook Pro for the whole day with outlet power and never did the battery go back to 100%. I hope I don't have to calibrate the battery on this model?
