Sound defaulting to internal speakers on reboot.

Hello.
Problem is simple..
I just reformatted my disk drive and restored everything from a time machine backup.
Now, every time I restart, the sound output defaults to the internal speakers instead of line out.
I found advice on another forum saying to delete the plist files in library>prefrences>audio and restart, but this did not solve the issue for me.
Help much appreciated.
Thanks
Ryan.

What makes sense to me is that the User audioMidi preferences would override the System Sound Preferences when you restarted or logged back in. Why they both should be set to line out if that is what you want.
Here is the Link to that Apple Doc on the subject.
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3935
It doesn't cover the .plist deletes. My reason for suggesting deleting the Sound plist in the HD Library and the audioMidi plist in the User Library before setting preferences, is that if the plists are corrupted the Mac would go to default settings - internal speakers.

  • For 1/11/11 expert day: can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers

HP Pavilion dv6135nr Notebook internal speakers have stopped working.  I can hear sounds on headphones but no sound via the internal speakers.  A search on HP customer care for my notebook yielded the download recommendation below, even though I had not stated my problem.  However, executing this download did NOT resolve the problem.  Please advise regarding resolution to inoperable speakers.  I do not know if all of my sound and audio settings are correct, but the mute is not on and the volume controls are properly set.  The default device is Conexant High Definition Audio output, per the sound and audio devices properties hardware  tab the device status states "this device is working properly."  Is it possible that a Skype or Foxfire update is in conflict with this device?  If so, how do I resolve this situation?
    Thank you.

Re: Fixes issue where the notebook speakers do not work after headphones or earphones are used for a while and then unplugged.
HOW DO YOU FIX THIS?? I cannot find the correct Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio that works with my computer...
    My computer:
    VISTA
    HP Compaq 2230s Notebook PC
Everytime I use my headphones for more than an hour or two, the **bleep** audio will not play on my notebook's speakers, just through the headphones. Usually restarting a few times resolves the problem, but not this time. If I knew that HP computers sucked this much I would never have spent so much money on this one!!!
Can you please tell me how to fix this problem once and for all? Thanks!!

  • Sound still from internal speakers when connected to a bluetooth headset

I just got some new bluetooth headphones for Christmas. I have them paired to my Macbook Pro. The bluetooth menu shows them as connected and if I hold option and click on the sound menu bar item it shows my current output and input device to be my headphones.
When playing music it only comes out through my headphones. Some other applications (my IRC client and various others) also only produce sound through the headphones. However the Messages application and Skype application both produce there notification sounds out my internal speakers only.
I would assume that this isn't really related to by headphones but rather the operating system not directing the sound to the proper output correctly.
Has anyone experienced this? (been able to fix)
Also for reference my headphones are Sony MDR 10rbt.

I have the EXACT same issue. I've tried Googling for a solution every so often to no avail. Did you ever figure this out?
Edit: Actually, I think I found a solution. I installed Soundflower (http://cycling74.com/products/soundflower/) and set the 2ch and 64ch to my Bluetooth headphones. In Mac System Preferences > Sounds > Sound Effects tab, I also set "Play sound effects through:" to Soundflower (both the 2ch and the 64ch seemed to work). Did the same in the Output tab. Now it seems like every sound is being pushed through my Bluetooth headphones! Hope this helps.

  • Faint Dial-up sound coming from internal speakers

What would cause the faint dial-up sound from the internal speakers when playing a game in XP?

    Go System/Pre then sound
    from there, go to Output-Line-Out,
see if its on mute aswell,
it was not on mute. I ended up plugging the speakers into the microphone jack on the front (instead of the line out in the back) and now it works.

  • My sound switches from internal speakers to apple Tv and i dont have an apple tv device

I am having problems with sound. My speakers will switch from internal speakers to Apple TV for no reason when I am on a certain wifi network and ask for a password. I do not have an apple TV and in order for the sound to come out on the internal speakers i have to manually go into the preferences and switch back to internal speakers. This does this constantly while i am listening to music. Is there a way to shut off the feature so it will stay on internal speakers? This has happened ever since i made the upgrade to OS mountain lion. I never did this before. Thank you for your help.

Are you sure that WIFI network doesn't have an AppleTV on it?  Just because you don't own it doesn't mean there isn't one on that network.  The laptop or better said the OS cannot differentiate between an AppleTV that you own or not.  If it sees one on the network, it will show you one as being available.  The automatic reconnection is happening probably because the last time you streamed to an AppleTV, you didn't drop that connection before sleeping the computer or shutting down iTunes.

  • Dell OptiPlex 3020: I only get sound from the internal speakers

I have a brand new Dell OptiPlex 3020 running Windows 8.1. I am able to hear through the internal speakers, but I cannot get external speakers or headphones to work - I've tried both the jacks on the front and back.
The microphone on my headset works correctly, but I still hear only through the internal speakers.
    Advice?

    Good day!
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Boot into the System Bios and make sure that Onboard Devices- Integrated Audio is On. Then exit the System Bios saving the change. Once back into Windows, open the Device Manager and make sure that ADI1983 HDA appears under Sound devices. Then re-test the rear green audio jack #4 using headphones. Also, reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message so that I can look into the details of the system and assist you better.

  • How do I add options to the 'output' section of sound. My 'internal speakers' was deleted or something.

I recently went to use my computer (MacBook Pro) and all of a sudden the sound was gone. The icon for sound is completely grayed out and the buttons on my keyboard don't work. When I go to system prferences there is no 'internal speakers' option either. Please help!

PLug and unplug the headphone jack.  The switch is stuck inside and needs to be flipped.

  • I currently have no sound from my internal speakers. When I go to system preferences, internal speakers is not an option - there is nothing there. What should I do to fix this?

I don't know what to do - I don't have any sound coming from my internal speakers, and with headphones there is still no sound coming out. When I go into system preferences under sound, there is nothing there - it says 'no output devices'. What should I do?

    MacBook Pro model?
Hard to suggest a solution without knowing the model.
The following tips may not apply to latest MacBook Pro 13 inch model.
Go step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and  remove the headphone.
If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    3. Reset PRAM.  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4405
    4. Reset SMC.     http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
        Choose the method for:
"Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
    5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
        Audio Devices window
        Side Bar
        Click the Built-in Output.
Under Mute any of the boxes checked? If so, uncheck it.

  • Sound Outputted Through Internal Speakers is Distorted While Charger is Disconnected

I have a new Pavilion G7-1263nr that works great while the charger is plugged in.  When I unplug the charger sound outputted through the internal speakers becomes distorted, and the mouse response is erratic.
    Thanks for the help!!

    Hi Giraut,
I don't have such a device to check, nor even external speakers, but I suspect this invisible file is corrupted, I'd drag it to the desktop and see if you can set it again...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ByHost/.GlobalPreferences<12digitHexNumb er>.plist
Might check Midi Setup Utility to see if it's set for 44.1K also.

  • Changing the sound to the internal speakers

I had my MacBook hooked up to a tv to play a movie, and I changed the sound settings so it played through the tv speakers. Now I can't get it to change back to the MacBook's internal speakers. Help?

Then you didn't disconnect from the TV in a proper manner.  Don't just unplug the cable.  Switch your sound and video outputs back to the internal systems on the laptop and then unplug the cable.  I've seen and heard a lot of people have issues with quick disconnecting interfaces like that and expecting the Mac to switch back properly.  Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

  • Sound coming from internal speakers, not plugged in external ones

I've got a set of speakers plugged into the audio jack in the back of the computer. System sounds (beeps and such) come out of the external speakers like they should. But, application sounds (RealPlayer) insist on coming from the internal speaker of the computer, no matter what I choose in the System Preferences for Sound Output. This happened when I first bought the machine, and then it miraculously got fixed (no idea how). Now it's doing it again. Any idea how to force applications to output sound to external speakers?
