Sound disappeared in Safari and BBC Radio Widget

Two days ago, without warning, the sound disappeared from both Safari and my BBC Radio Widget. All other sound on the computer is fine and if I play an MP3 through Safari it will play but otherwise there is silence. (Problem was discovered by our 5 year-old who was disappointed that there was no sound coming from the CBeebies websites!).
Have checked all other sound options and everything is in order.
Went to local Mac re-seller and they shrugged their shoulders and said try here.
Any suggestions?
Thanks for any help.

You're welcome.
If there is a preference file associate with the widget, move it to the trash before you reinstall a new copy. The preference file will be name widget-com.(name assigned to widget).plist. You can try a search in spotlight on look in your User Library>Preferences folder.

  • BBC radio widget

I have used this for sometime with Tiger and was able to exit from the dashboard and use applications whilst listening to the radio- I have found that with Leopard whilst the widget works it is only possible with dashboard open - as soon as I open another app the connection is lost I have Real player 11.0 installed .
Has anyone else experienced similar problems or found a way around it - my only other thought is to listen directly from the BBC webpage - Is it time for a rewrite of the BBC radio widget since it has not been updated since Tiger

According to iTunes help you can manually add an audio stream as follows:
    Connecting to an Internet broadcast
If you know the Internet address (URL) of a live (streamed) broadcast, you can connect to it using iTunes.
To connect to an Internet broadcast:
Choose Advanced > Open Audio Stream.
Enter the full URL of the file you want to listen to. For example:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/sample.mp3
    If this works, why wait?

Thanks to Mike on Safari Help I am able to 'Listen Again' (as well as listen in real time) to BBC radio programmes on my Intel iMac. I don't know about the widget but the following works:
Open Safari with CTRL key pressed
    Click Get Info
    Click the Rosetta option
    Restart
    Go to bbc.co.uk
    Download Real Player 10.

  • Sound skips in Safari and Chrome

I have a problem with sound skipping in Safari and Google Chrome.  Whenever I am playing music or watching a movie in these browsers the sound is fine, but if I open another application, select another application, or if the computer goes to screensaver the sound skips.  This has been happening for quite awhile now and it is very frustrating.  Any suggestions?  Thanks

My TrafficLight extension disappeared from Safari and will not reinstall, either through Safari or as a standalone download. How can I fix this?

Are you sure you downloaded this extension from Apple ?
    https://extensions.apple.com/
    Where is it?
    Check ~/Library/Safari/Extensions
I did a Google search for source links for the extension but can't find the one for Apple here.
Maybe you downloaded a trial version and it expired?  http://trafficlight.bitdefender.com/extensions.html
Just my 2 cents, but this extension is likely to cause you more problems with Safari then it's worth. If you are concerned about security on the net read >  Thomas' Corner : Mac Virus Guide

  • ITunes internet Radio -  BBC Radio 5 and BBC Radio 4 have disappeared

I updated to Maverick last night and have discovered with the various updates to iTunes and so forth that BBC Radio 5 (and 4) have disappeared from the internet radio News/Talk radio option.  This may seem like a small thing and other options are available, but does anyone know why??
With this, Java and my iphone iOS7 constantly booting apps, some days it feels like the windows system I last used 15 years ago....a bit buggy!
Anyhoo, any advice gratefully received.  NB I understand that this is not iTunes Radio!!!  I'm talking about the internet stations.
    Cheers

    Hi SS_MedPhoto
I have only just got round to looking at this, so apologies.  I have no idea how you edit the stream, though as I was looking through I noticed that Radio 4 & 5 have reappeared.
Apologies for not coming back sooner.
Would be interested to know how to add/edit stations though.

  • Videos on youtube and bbc radio iplayer display a black box instead of the player box.

so yesterday morning i was using youtube and bbc iplayer fine and then last night they suddenly stopped working and i can't think of any reason why, i haven't updated or made any changes to anything in the last day. the pages load fine but where there was previoulsy the video or in the case of iplayer the picture with the controls on, there is now just a black box. i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling flash player but otherwise don't know what to do!
i've also tried using internet explorer and have the same problem with this. i've tried to update firefox but cant get it to work, although i imagine this won't help anyway since ive got the same problem in internet explorer.
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!

You can check for problems caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and possibly downgrade to Flash 11.2 or 10.3.

  • Mobile safari and Iframe within widget

If a site is fully supported in mobile safari on the ipad, will it be fully supported via as an iframe in the ibook? I thought the two were one in the same.
I have a situation where I have an html 5 site called within an iframe of a widget and it does not work. Loads the iframe then nothing. The widget loads fine on the desktop and in preview in I book author but on the ipad it does not complain, just does not show up. In mobile safari, it also shows and works just fine. Any ideas?

  • Safari and bbc sports player

does anyone know how to get the bbc sports player to work? everytime i click on one of the videos nothing happens. i have the latest version of windows media and and real one player (the two forms of the player the bbc's requires).
I live outside the UK and whilst there are a few things on the sports player that are for UK people only, most are not. I can access the sports player fine from my work PC (microsoft) but as soon as i get home and switch on my ibook i get nothing!! Anyone have any clues??

    Hi
one thing to try is opening Realplayer Preferences, choose the transport tab, check the 'use manually configured rtsp & pna...." box & click the configure button, then check only the http box in the rtsp column.... uncheck any others.
When I first got this mac about a year ago, this was the only thing that got the bbc player working; although it doesn't seem necessary now; but I leave it set that way & don't notice any other problems. Also use Realplayer for the bbc stuff, the resolution & speed always seemed rubbish from them in wmv form.
Praps also try deleting any bbc cookies via Safari-Preferences-Security-Show Cookies.
I know how frustrating this can be, since for a while it seemed that nothing would get the bbc news/sports players to behave.

  • Safari and the BBC radio player....

    Hi all,
Not sure where this is best being placed - so sorry if this is the wrong place. I have an iMac at home and have been listening to BBC radio stations happily through Safari for the last couple of years. I know that I downloaded something to make it work. I now also have a macbook pro as my works machine and I want to be able to listen to the radio within the office as I do at home.
I just can not seem to get it to work - as far as I can tell I have downloaded flip for mac, real player and even windows media player for the mac - but it still will not play the stations.
All help and advice very much appreciated.

Questions about Safari would not be out of place in the Safari area. Tip: before you post there add the link to what you are not getting to work. I can tell you one thing, the obsolete and buggy WM Player for mac is not the solution.
Have you tried Firefox? I just went to BBC radio homepage and listened live to BBC radio , which , using Firefox caused Quicktime (supported by Flip4mac) to launch and start playing the stream.

  • Installed Flash update & now BBC radio sound & not able to buy on Amazon- Adobe Flash Plug in crashes, not sorted on re-load or re-install..

Was asked to unpdate Flash which I did, but now I cant get BBC radio sound or Amazon transactions.
Tried to re-install Flash & Firefox but not change

There have been issues reported with the 13.0.0.182 version of the Flash plugin crashing on some older Mac computers due to the compiler generating incompatible code.
The way to recover is to uninstall the Flash 13 version and revert to an older Flash version and wait for Adobe to release an update that addresses this issue.

You can either install the latest Flash 11.7 version that has the latest security updates (may not work with Safari) or the last Flash 12 version that didn't get the security updates Flash 13 has.

  • Firefox seems not to be supporting new BBC radio player. Safari is ok with it.

I am a frequent user of BBC radio via the net. The BBC has re-vamped its player and this afternoon [01 04 11] I tried listening to Radio 7 and then Radio 4 to check. The listening panel showed up but there was no sound either on listen live or on 'listen again'. I am now listening to R7 live via Safari.
I have not had problems before with Firefox and the BBC

I had this problem too, but fixed it. In my case I was using the Flashblock extension. Adding bbc.co.uk to the whitelist resolved the problem. Maybe you people are using some kind of Adobe Flash filtering? Pls leave a comment as to whether or not this is the case.

  • I am trying to listen BBC radio news from BBC App, but on pressing the button I always get the error "there was an error playing this radio feed". What is the source of this error and how can I remove it?

I am trying to listen BBC radio news from BBC App, but on pressing the button "live radio" I always get the error "there was an error playing this radio feed". What is the source of this error and how can I remove it?

That is probably just a generic error message and you might not ever know what is causing it. Assuming that you have been able to play live radio with the app in the past (I know nothing about the app) and assuming that all other Internet related functions (Safari, email, etc.) are working properly on your iPad, quit the app completely and reboot your iPad.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Double tap the home button and the recents tray will appear with all of your recent apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner of the app that you want to close. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
If that fails to resolve the issue, you might want to reboot your router, unplug it for about 30 seconds and then plug it in again.

  • Safari (and Firefox and Flock) cannot find plug-ins for BBC sites

Ive downloaded realplayer 10.1.0 and I have quicktime 7.1.3 but I cannot access any of the movie or audio clips from the BBC news website, and other sites are giving similar trouble, though for some reason youtube is fine. I cannot listen to BBC radio on line or classic fm which is driving me nuts. I've played with various settings for hours and cannot see what to try next.
    Advice welcomed.
    New Year Blessings
    Eleanor

    Hi Eleanor
Audio and video plays fine on Safari for me.
First, go to the Safari Menu>Safari Preferences>Security>Cookies and remove any cookies for the BBC. Also, from the same menu "empty cache".
Next, open RealPlayer. RealPlayer Menu>Preferences. Make sure the correct Media Types are selected - first select "show private real player types". Then, all boxes are checked except for the last 3).
If you are choosing Windows Media Player as your BBC player of choice, which cannot run native on an Intel system, then you'll need to install the free plug-in Flip4Mac. This plug-in, managed from your System Preferences panel, converts this type of content to Quicktime.

  • Web clip widget from bbc radio - cannot delete it.

    Hi Community,
I have an issue with my dashboard - hope you guys can help me out:
I tried the web clip widget feature with a web player of bbc radio, but I never really made it work, so since a couple of weeks now I try to delete it again. When I try to access my Dashboard it instantly redirects me to a browser window with the cookie website (http://cookie.radioplayer.co.uk/cm/lp/s) of bbc.
As it instantly redirects me OFF the dashboard - I cant click on the - button below, nor am I fast enough to click alt and the X on the widget.
It also doesnt appear in the library/widgets folder, so Im screwed. -.-
    Someone with an idea?
Passively accessing the Dashboard - something like Safe Mode - is available? I mean accessing it without loading/updating the widgets?
    Thanks for the help
    Cheers
    Alex

    Hi Alex
I believe the BBC recently changed the way they code the radio widget, making it impossible to remain in the Dashboard. But, as you've found, the actual widget isn't in the Widgets folder.
The only way you can remove it is to trash your preferences. Go to the home Library folder, then Preferences, and trash com.apple.dashboard.plist and com.apple.dashboard.client.plist. Immediately reboot.
You might want to look at RadioAunty for an alternative way to access BBC radio stations.
