Sound disappears randomly on Extreme Gamer XiFi Fatal

Hi all,
Very new to the forums here and?I was wondering if anyone could advise me on what I can do. I've been experiencing random and complete sound loss during online gaming and sometimes during browsing or sound distortion while gaming or playing online vids such as youtube. Currently running vista home premium on a quad core system and I have the?lastest driver/software updates for everything. I read a sticky about some Vista compatibiliy issues, but it was an old post so I assume things ought to be fixed by now? Wondering if I should return my card for a warranty replacement or something. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I am experiencing similar problems. I installed an x-fi extreme gamer in a new system in November and all was well until 3 weeks?ago. The sound now still works at first boot or immediately after a reboot, but has started dropping out to be replaced by?white noise after anything from a?few minutes?to tens of minutes after switch on. This only resolves after reboot. Starting creative Console, Sound Recorder etc. after the white noise has started results in BSOD.
System details as follows:
Asus Maximus Formula (458 MHz FSB)
Core 2 Duo E6750 (8 x multiplier)
4 GB Corsair DDR2 800
BFG 8800 GTS?320 MB
Sound Blaster Xtreme Gamer
Vista Home Premium 32 bit with SP
500 GB Samsung SATA HD
620?W Corsair PSU
Have uninstalled and reinstalled all latest drivers.
Any thoughts welcome, have tried everything I can think of.

  • Question Regarding the Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Gam

Hello everyone, I apologize if this question has been asked dozens of times, but it's something I've dug through countless number of posts to find an answer to. I bought a sennheiser pc 350 headset this past weekend along with a sound blaster x-fi x-treme gamer sound card. I opened up my case, plugged the card into the pci slot, screwed it down and finally plugged in the power cable into the card. Upon bootup I disabled the on board sound in the BIOs, although?I did notice that the optical out slot emitted a redish light, which I'm not sure indicates a problem or not.
Anyways, after booting up the computer detects the new hardware, so I install everything on the vista CD before going online and downloading the latest drivers off the creative website. I'm running Vista 64 bit ultimate btw. After installation I reboot the system and hook my microphone into optical out and my headset into line . I ended up getting sound in my headset just fine, but no matter what I did I could not for the love of me get the mic to work. And that's the sole problem, the little microphone lol. I've read several posts about the same thing, although they date awhile back and I was hoping a solution has emerged since. I've read that on the x-fi control panel line and mic need to NOT be muted, but whenever I unmute on, it mutes the other. I also find the digital I/O setting tab which also may be the culprit, as it has the selection for mic-in/line , but I can't select it!
Otherwise I believe everything is fine.. in the control panel under speech recog options I went into advanced settings under speech recog and set the sb xfi mic to the default... and yes, in the sound tab the mic is the default with everything else being unavaible and the auxiliary being disabled ( is this ok? ) and in playback speakers are the default rather than spdif out - not sure which should be the default. The mic, speakers, and spdif say they are all "working" and although playback works... no recording.
Anyways, I'm sorry for the long post, I just thought I would give as much possible information as?I could to help get a solution... I appreciate any comments and please - please help me fix this thing! lol.

Sounds like you have misapprehended something regarding usage of analog and digital I/Os?
st, you don't plug the microphone into optical output but into FlexiJack port (as it's called). Check the X-Fi User's Guide for more.
2nd, when you wonder that those other choices being not available when one is selected, what makes you think that the card would be able to record more than one source at once through one input port (For Creative cards, this can be possible when using ASIO drivers but, does your card have more than one input port. (if there's a AUX port (internal connector on card board) then maybe you could get both input ports listed w/ ASIO)?
3rd, why the ouput would be defaulted to S/PDIF (you are normally using headphones or acti've analog speakers)?
I don't know this model but if there's a separate Mixer Panel applet for X-Fi (you maybe need to install the Creative Software bundle to get this) then, have you checked your settings there (playback source should be set to MIC and recording source set to MIC)?

  • Only faint sound from X-FI extreme gamer in some speak

I am only getting very faint sound from my front Center speaker and from my back left and right speakers. I have to turn up my speaker volume very high to hear anything at all and what I do hear is very pour quality. I have my system in dual boot with vista and XP. I am only having this problem in XP, in vista the audio is fine. I've checked all the volume controls in windows and the creative software. I've also checked the connections. If I am getting some sound from my front center and from my back left and right the connections have to be hooked up correctly.
I'm going to try downloading the drivers and installing them from there.

This was a clean install of XP Pro x64 and a new driver installation. One hour ago I got a wild hair and removed the X-Fi from Device Manager, disconnected my router, then rebooted. I ran the beta-driver installation program and was notified there was still an old Sound Blaster driver installed. It removed the driver and prompted me to reboot before installing the new drivers. As far as I can tell everything is working so far...no blue screens and sound is fine in BF2. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

  • Vista 64: XiFi Extreme Gamer: Mic not work

I can't get a microphone to work in BF242 with Vista 64 and my Extreme Gamer. I plug the mic into the 3-way jack, select "mic" in the Creative console; but when I get into the sound setup in the game all I can hear during the test is a pulsing noise. Is there something I need to change in the Windows sound setup (I have tried 2 different mics by the way)

Just ran across something new to try. The Extreme Gamer has an internal connection to run to a front sound panel. (It's one of the reasons I purchased this model.) A post in the XiFi Forum mentioned that the front panel connection sometimes causes problems with the muti-jack. Anyone else see thisI'll report back when I get a chance to try this.
Update: After unplugging the front panel connector I have been able to successfully use my mic in BF242. Remember to change the settings in the "Sound" section in Vista as well as in the Creative Control Panel (shouldn't the Creative panel automatically change the Vista settings ). In Vista you need to select the Microphone as default recording device and also change the recording slider source from "What You Hear" to the mic. I had to push the slider to the max for the mic to be heard in the game.

  • Big Bang games sound disappeared....

have no idea how it happened, but all of sudden the sounds from the Big Bang games disappeared. System sound functioning normally, sound with video and itunes normal, and tried another game and it was fine. I deleted the Big Bang games, and reinstalled from the original install CD and same problem. did a compare on the Audio folders in both root/Library and user/Library and seem okay. this is not an issue to spend too much time on obviously, but was curious if anyone had any clues as to where I should look next to find a possible cause/solution.
    thanks!

I have the 17" iMac Intel CD with 1.5 GB RAM and the usual 128 MB Vid Card. Everything seems to be working just great on the machine. Except, the problem I have had with the BBBG is that in Chess and Checkers, the game will always freeze at some point. The menu items, sound and the like all continue to play on but I cannot drag and drop the pieces any longer and they no longer light up when pointed to so the game is, essentially, unplayable. Sometimes it happens after a few initial moves and other times well into the game. So far I have only noticed this on Chess and Checkers and not the other games. This happens on both 10.4.4 and 10.4.5 (It also happens on the included OEM version of BBBG as well as the vendor's online download). I never have any other window/app open during the game. I have contacted the vendor who claims never to have heard about this. I supplied additional info that they requested about 2 weeks ago and never heard back from them. I would say the vendor is very much the monkey in this case and am very unhappy with the game performance and their support.

  • Windows 7 64 bit + Extreme Gamer = no mic

    Hi,
Installed Windows 7 tonight thinking that surely i wouldn't have any problems with drivers after he Audigy 2ZS/Vista Fiasco and guess what. My Mic does not work. It should just work out of the box!
Used current drivers from creatives own site but couldn't find any option to correct in settings. Vent and windows register volume levels when i speak and i can hear myself in my own headphones but no sound is being transmitted on vent, or in steam.
I have uninstalled everything. Can anyone help?
    Thanks....

-Re: Windows 7 64 bit + Extreme Gamer = no mic?
Now this is a long shot. This is an experiment for you, but it was a success for me. Running Vista and Windows 7, I switched several times between my x-fi FATALITY PRO PCI and my X-FI Titanium PCI-Express. I accidentally formatted my system without switching out sound cards and I installed the drivers for my X-FI Titanium. I had unzipped them with Winrar to look in the directories, hoping to learn .ini files and their customizable settings. I chose update, and then have disk and browsed to the location of the TITANIUM drivers by mistake, and I updated my X-FI Fatality PCI. Well what do you know? It worked. I used that card with the wrong driver, and it restored my what u hear function and my microphone worked great. You may want to try it........you may not. Just a suggestion. Download the Titanium driver, unzip it with winrar winace or 7-zip, and then manually update it with the have disk, and browse to the unpacked folder. Restart and you will have sound. Check your micophone and sound now......You will have to reconfigure your EQ and speaker settings and always be sure to NOT check full range speakers in the control panel, speakers applet.

  • Xfi Extreme Gamer. Conections Quest

I got this card to replace an aging Audigy2 but I need to conect the output to my home theater system. The card Boasts a "optical" connection but there is no documentation on how to impliment that method. I have a digital I/0 box but the documentation states it is not compatible with the card. I may return this if I can't get the optical conection to happen and go with the fatality platinum. The break out box seems to have more options. Has anyone got the optical to interface with their reciever and How?Message Update. I returned the Extreme Gamer card? for the Xfi Platinum. The break put box supplies me with the needed optical out signal for my reciever. The digital I/O module did not work (contrary to CL web site).?I still had to make several setting selections internally within CL's interface and Windows before "finally" getting a working signal out (a lot of trial & errors). The signal is kind of weak and the volume needs to be cranked up to a high degree, but hey it works now!? Note to CL. Your connection instructions are vague and less than useful in real world settings. Do you have an opening for a Tech manual writer? ; )Message Edited by jaytmoon on -2-200603:07 PM

Thanks Rad- but Those options won't help me.I really hope someone for creative would jump in here since the product's packaging leads me to believe that this can be done wothout any home made mods or 3rd source cabling. It really looks like a "Truth in advertising" faupa to me!Message Edited by jaytmoon on -7-20062:5 PM

  • Creative XFi Extreme Gamer no Microphone In

    Hello,
I've just reinstalled Windows XP SP2 (with all the patches) on my gaming machine. After installing the latest Creative drivers for my Soundblaster XFi Extreme Gamer audio card (from the website: SBXF_PCDRV_LB_2_5_0006.exe) the sounds work fine but my microphone doesn't work. It's plugged into the Flexijack on the card but there's no setting to switch the Flexijack from optical mode to audio mode. The Soundblaster XFi documentation says to click on the "Advanced" button under the Microphone settings in the Mixer and there should be a check-box to switch the Flexijack over but mine shows no such check box.
Can someone point me to the right settings?
    Thanks,
    Dennis

Good luck, lots of x-fi things don't work right in 64. Most people I know just gave up and use the onboard audio mic instead, less hassle.

  • Problems with Installing Software for XFi Extreme Gamer C

Hi, I've just bought an XFi Extreme Gamer card. I've got a dual boot system (two difrent hard discs). The board installed ok under XP and works OK. The problem is that under Win2K Pro the installation comes up with an Entry Point Error for CTXFISPI.EXE WTSRegisterSessionNotification could not be located in WTSAPI32.dll. These files exist on the CD and Hard dri've. I do get sound and music etc but the problem is that when I try to launch the volume control or console etc it says "The current selected audio device is not supported by the application. Do you want select another audio device now?". If you say yes you get the choice of "Follow Windows Default". Now checking the device manager etc you find that Creative SB XFi is there and has no problems. There doesn't seem to be any updated drivers for Win2K on the site, I'm at a bit of a loss what to do next, I only upgraded to try and play some newer games, hasn't helped so far. Also can't launch the diagnostics programme either.
Any suggestions would be great, I don't if it's Windows fault or Creative at the moment.

are you blind man? that what nearly every post on this forum is about the complete lack of vista support. Yes we all have the driver but you can forget the console and all of the advanced connectivity you paid for. Creative are just a joke in my opinion why can't they get this sorted i also use optical in for my xbox 360 i'm totally pissed off with this situation. Come on creative get your act together and get some proper support sorted!!!!

  • 975x PUE random reboots during games

    Here is my setup:
    MSI 975x PUE
    Core 2 Duo E6300
    2GB Gskill 800mhz DDR2
    X1900XTX  (PCI-e)
    300GB HDD
    Xfi Fatality
    Windows XP And Vista
My system seems to reboot randomly when playing games.  No warning, No errors, just straight reboot.  It could be 5 mins into the game or 45mins into the game.  I have tried formatting and reinstalling windows XP Pro, I also tried installing Windows Vista Ultimate,  I made sure the voltage in the BIOS is setup correctly for the memory, I run memtest86 for almost 24 hours with no errors, I run Windows MemTest for about 20 hours with no errors, I run PRIME2004 for about 9 hours with no errors, I tried different RAM, I bought a new hard drive, I replaced the Power supply with a brand new Antec 650 watt.  I updated the BIOS.  There are games which I have played for a few hours with no reboot, Diablo 2, Neverwinter Nights 1, Quake 3, Counter Strike Source.  Games that reboot the system all the time are Command and Conquer 3, World of warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online Beta, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, and Neverwinter nights 2.   I have also tried installing Ubuntu, and the install goes fine, but I cannot install the video drivers, and I get a PCI error every time I boot up, the error is too quick for me to take a note of.

rma the orig gskill, corsair has always worked for me, kingston hyperX should work also, or just read through the forums for what is working for others, cheaper is not always better, it appears the 975 is picky about ram.
That would lead me to believe the MB is defective then, not the RAM. If the MB is fussy about RAM why would the onus be on the RAM manufacturer to replace the RAM until something works instead of the MB manufacturer, who is the source of the problem, to properly design their MB?
FYI I'm also having issues with my 975x PUE where it won't boot with neither my very high quality OCZ RAM nor with just basic Crucial RAM. They've RMA'd my first board and the new one fixed my original problem (wouldn't even initialize POST) only to give me different problems. MSI royally screwed-up with that board and I hope they find a solution quick because I'm not very enthusiastic about being beta tester for hardware I pay hundreds of dollars for.

    ps.
I dont know what else to do. If I need to purchase something different I would gladly do so if I was certain it would fix the issue. Andy?Really frustrated at this point?

I also have had this issue occur with me. In basic troubleshooting, I have found that if I can disable all applications that are trying to access the audio bus. remove and reinstall the drivers, I can get normal sound back without having to reboot the computer. This leads me to believe that it is a driver issue and not a hardware one. The issue occurs for me mostly anytime i heavily use the audio, such as listening to a lot of music with Winamp, or playing games with lots of audio channels acti've. normal idling it will cause it to eventually fail too , but takes much longer to occur (day instead of 5 minutes since reboot). the issue only started since i had to reinstall Vista on my computer not even a month ago, before then, the audio worked perfectly. currently I am forced to use the onboard audio as it will not crap out and is actually usable same time that the X-fi drivers have locked up.

  • On board sound on GA-Z77X-UD3H vs Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio

Christmas last year I upgraded to a new computer and I'm wondering if I would gain any audio performance or sound quality by moving my old Sound Blaster X-Fi Extreme Audio card to my new computer which is presently running with on-board sound.
Here's the link to the motherboard model I have: http://ca.gigabyte.com/products/prod...px?pid=4441#sp
    The audo is listed as:
    1.VIA VT2021 codec
    2.High Definition Audio
    3.2/4/5.1/7.1-channel
    4.Support for S/PDIF Out
Would it be worth it even with this old sound card? Or does the new on-board sound quality beat the old sound cards of yesterday? Also, yes I do play a lot of new generation games.

The X-FI Extreme Audio does not have an X-FI chip. It is an Audigy 2 chip with software emulation to come close to the sound capabilites of an X-FI chip based card. There is a lot of information about it on the web, Creative has taken quite a PR hit because of the comments by the CEO at that time. I don't know if he is still the CEO nor do I really care.
