Sound Distortion - Music and Events only

My iphone 3gs 3.1.2 seems to have a software issue playing sounds. when playing music from the speaker or using the headphone jack the sound is incredibly distorted and unrecognisable, even with the volume low. i have done several soft and hard resets which fix the problem for a short time and it then returns, sometimes part way through a song, video or application. interestingly the sound whilst making standard voice calls is ok, but maybe this is not as noticeable as it is at a lower volume and has less bass tones. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem. Have sent an email to customer support to see if any feedback. Since music file that was purchased on iphone plays fine when synced to PC and played in Itunes I suspect is hardware or software problem with Iphone 3GS. Seems to have been happening ever since I purchased though.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430

Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

To solve some sound problems, just follow these simple steps
1. Go to Settings
2. Tap on General
3. Tap on Reset
4. Tap on Reset All Settings
What this effectively does is to reset some of your Settings to factory default. It’s not a complete removal of settings. It removes all of your preferences for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Do No Disturb, Notifications, General, Sounds, Brightness & Wallpaper and Privacy. It doesn’t affect your data. All of your email accounts will remain intact, as well as any SMS text or iMessages.

Connect your iPad to your computer and launch iTunes. Select your iPad (top right of the screen). Select the various tabs as shown in the image and add the content you want. Then 'sync' it.

I had major issues with the iPhone 4s battery, however it’s resolved.
The tech who set the phone up at the Apple store did so with little training.
if you have a mobile me account. First go and move all your data to the cloud by going on your computer and logging in at me.com/move. The cloud has replaced mobile me, so there is no need for those two accounts
Also make sure that for any of your email accounts you set them up to fetch, not push. My tech person set them all to have the email servers push data to the phone. The new iphone4s antenna is extremely strong so it will continually try to access stuff that is pushed–***** a lot of battery life doing this. It makes it worse if you have exchange 2010 accounts. Something about changes made to exchange really suck battery life from devices that access such accounts.

Strange sound distortion since update (but only some files and Bluetooth)

My Xperia Z1 compact got updated to Lollipop (14.5.A.0.242) this morning. Moreover, the Walkman got updated to 8.5.A.3.3. From then onwards, some music files are distorted when played with Walkman, but only when played via Bluetooth.
This does not happen when played with another player (tested with VLC app). It seems to be also restricted to a special file type. Nearly all my music is stored with AAC. The files that have the problem are however only the AAC files that use the profile HE-AAC (AAC+ i.e. with SBR). If I remember it correctly, I created these files with Winamp.
Could you please look into this problem? I like the Walkman player more than Google Music or VLC and don't want to convert all my HE-AAC music to something else.

Distorted music and sound from headphone socket

I've just started having an issue with my iPod touch, which is just over one year old. Whenever playing sound (music, videos etc.) the sound is distorted and "echoey" from the headphone socket, unless I apply some pressure to the connection. When I let go of the connection, the distortion returns. I have tried different headphones, but this makes no difference to the problem. Playing music on speakers via the dock connection is problem-free.
Is this an issue I can do something about myself or will I have to go to an Apple store to have the iPod fixed? If it needs to be fixed, does anyone know how much this is likely to cost me?

Make sure there is no debris in the headphone jack by connecting and disconnecting the headphones a few times, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1575#faq7

IPad only plays sound with music and some games

My iPad was working great until a week ago but now I only have sound for my music. I have no sound when I type (yes I checked to make sure that the keyboard clicks were on). On certain games I have no sound. When I put my headphones on I have sound on Geometry wars but when i take the headphones out I got nothing. Also when I lock my iPad it doesn't make a sound. Any ideas?

I don't fully understand what's involved but I've found that a System Reset cures many ills. It's easy, quick and harmless:
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.
A System Reset does not remove any apps, music, movies, etc. nor does it cause any settings to revert back to default.
Also, you might wish to download the iPad-2 User Guide. Pay special attention to page 162. Note that this Guide also applies to the iPad-1 with IOS 4.3 except for those functions that are not supported by the hardware.

Ipod classic sudden sound distortion from dock connector only

I have an ipod classic 160gb 7th generation. When I docked it one day the sound was very distorted and unplayable. This happens in different docking stations yet they play with other ipods. I can still sync and charge (through some but not all chargers) and can play through headphones.
I have reset, restored, turned the EQ off and still no change. Any help /advice? not under warranty

ITunes Backup, Music and Podcasts only

Dear Discussion members,
I would like to back up my iTunes Library. I have a read a few posts first but haven't quite found the answer I'm looking for.
I have a lot of podcasts and music on my internal drive.
I do have an external but don't want to back up there, instead I want to do the backup to DVDs (a bunch of them for sure)
I know there is the iTunes database file and from what I've read it may be worth backing that up but I am not sure how in the future I will merge the current database file with any current version. That's one question.
Aside from that what I want to do is backup my Podcasts. I know I can do this manually but I would like to do it through iTunes…is this possible and recommended over a manual backup?
In terms of songs, can it be done via iTunes as well?
Any and all feedback is welcome. IIf something is unclear please let me know and I will try to clarify as best I can.

Go step by step and test.
1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
    Highlight Internal Speakers.
    Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
2.Plug in and remove the headphone.
    If you see red light in the headphone port, plug the headphone
    in and out of the port 5 or 6 times to flip the microswitch inside.
    Sound output may be stuck in the digital mode.
    Try this even if you don’t see the red light.
3. Reset PRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222

    Choose the method for:    "Resetting SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own".
5. Applications > Utilities > Audio MIDI Setup
    Audio Devices window
    Side Bar

     Make sure that no box is checked under “Mute”.
