Sound distortion with Audigy

Hi all
First off, I have looked at the FAQ's and tried just about everything except a reformat.
I just bought a Sound Blaster Audigy SE card for a budget spec PC. The rough specs are:
AMD Sempron 2600+
ASRock K8 Upgrade-689 motherboard (supposedly with 7.ch onboard AC'97 audio)
52mb ddr ram
ASUS 9250 graphics card (64mb)
When i first put the PC together, the sound did have some distortion when booting up (the windows startup sound was slightly distorted/crackly) and other distortion when other programs were loading and i was playing music at the same time. I assumed this was normal for a relati'vely budget PC.
However, I decided to get the problem solved by buying a sound card to improve the sound quality, but after installing the Audigy SE (and downloading the latest drivers), the distortion has got worse, and almost any program that uses system resources to load will cause a lot of distortion. It's not as crackly, but the sound jumps and slows a hell of a lot when i do absolutely anything else when playing music, like open a browser for example. I seriously doubt there is a fault with the card itself.
I've tried a fresh install, tested my speakers (which are fine) and the onboard sound is uninstalled and disabled in BIOS. There are no conflicting resources with the sound card. Could there be a problem with my motherboard? Or is there a better way to increase the performance of the sound? I wont even get started on running a 3D game engine while sounds are playing... If any more info is required just let me know.
Thanks in advance,
Haxel

You can also check if
- onboard sound/game/midi is disabled
- there are IRQs/recources shared w/ sound card --> change Audigy into another PCI slot if there is sharing (see your motherboard manual for IRQ assiments)
- SRC and HW acceleration are set to MAX
- directX drivers are up to date
- codecs are up to date
- drivers are 'correctly' installed (re-install original drivers from CD by running the ctzapxx.exe -> do not uninstall anything but just install and tag the option asking yuor permission to write over current drivers)

  • Random Distortion with Audigy 2 ZS

    Hey
I'm Running with a Audigy 2 ZS. Ive been having this problem for a while but was livable with till I just updated my driver. Now im get these random sound distortion issues constantly. Sometimes its just light and crackly, others its to the point where i cant hear anything... Doesnt matter what program im running it just happens. Driver is updated and everything used to work back in the day. Im running vista home premium. Anyone know any solutions?

I would recommend you try installing Daniel K.'s support pack 2.0 for the Audigy as there have been problems with the Creative drivers and Vista. I used all three of Daniel's packages with my audigy and I/O dri've and they worked well with no crackling of any sort on three motherboards.
    http://forums.creative.com/creativel...hread.id=39702
Daniel fixed and customized these drivers for Vista, based on Creative Labs drivers and applications so they are not "broken" inside of Vista. Cheers mate! and I know these are the drivers that you want. The ones on the Creative Labs site are not as functional as these are. One thing I do though, is I install Daniel's package and then I install the newest Creative Labs driver on top of all that.

  • Horrible Sound Distortion with Creative HS-950

Hi, I recently bought the HS-950 USB Gaming headset. About 4 hours into gaming, I experienced an unpleasant sound distortion that made everyone on Vent Sound slowed down. I unpluuged my headset and a few hours later I had the same problem. After reading through the forums I have gathered this is a Major problem. But is there a Fix?
I am running Vista 32bit and using Realtek HD sound.
    Thanks,
    Vortexx.

I'm having the same problem .. horrible sound quality (headset OR headphone mode) on a MacBook Pro with built-in Bluetooth. I've got the latest & greatest update of Leopard too.
Headset works great with my cell phone (no distortion).
Will keep looking. Someone please post if they see a solution.
Here's one possibility, although it says it is for Tiger and requires some command-line manipulation (not bad, but I don't expect to have to do this kind of thing on OSX):

  • IPhone 6 Plus speaker sounds distorted with popping sound when phone rings or alerts play.

My iPhone 6 Plus is less than a 2 weeks old but since day one its speaker sounds distorted.   The ringer or alerts or even the new email alert have a popping or clangy sound to them.  Is this a software issue or hardware?  My phone is uptodate and Ive tried hard reboots to try to alleviate the problem but it didn't fix the problem.  Should I try to restore it?  Also, If I take it in to my local Apple store and they replace it, will my new ZAGG screen protector just be a wasted $20???

    Hi _3ntr0py,
I'm sorry to hear that you are having issues with your new iPhone 6 Plus. If you continue to have sound or speaker distortion with your iPhone, you may find the troubleshooting steps outlined in the following article helpful:

  • CD playback distortion with Audigy 2NX after XP SP2 and Creative upda

<FONT face="Courier New" size=3>I have an Audigy 2 NX attached to a Dell Inspiron 8600 running Windows XP Pro, Service Pack 2.
<FONT face="Courier New" size=3>Sometime after I installed Service Pack 2, the Audigy stopped functioning completely. I cannot say when, exactly, it "broke," as I have not used it for a while, but I suspect the problem was related to SP2.
<FONT face="Courier New" size=3>I uninstalled and reinstalled the Audigy software and then, using the "Software AutoUpdate" feature on your web site, installed the latest drivers, firmware and software. This process completed successfully.
<FONT face="Courier New" size=3>The Audigy now "sort of" works. I am having problems playing CDs on the Inspiron's CD/DVD dri've. The output through the Audigy is distorted. This "distortion" is hard to describe. The Audigy seems to be "overloading," and the sound drops out briefly two or three times a second.
<FONT face="Courier New" size=3>When I play MP3s through the Audigy, however, there is none of this overloading or distortion.
<FONT face="Courier New" size=3>When I play CDs using the Inspiron's internal sound system, there is also no distortion.
<FONT face="Courier New" size=3>I ran your diagnostics and no errors were reported.
<FONT face="Courier New" size=3>Please let me know how I can go about fixing this problem as I would like to recover the Audigy's full capabilities.

  • Cd distortion with Audigy c

I am getting distortion whenever a cd is played. If a sound file off of the hard dri've, or even a dvd is played, however, there is no distortion whatsoever. The distortion tends to build throughout the track, so that by about three minutes, it is very noticeable, and by 5 or 6, the track is very hard to hear.
The distortion happens in both cd dri'ves, and I have already tried cleaning them. This problem has persisted for a couple of years, and a complete replacement of the motherboard and hard dri've (motherboard died taking hdd with it), so it cannot be a result of virus or spyware.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.
Edit: Sound files off of the hdd DO have issues, but video sound has no issues at all.Message Edited by unpolloloco on 07-2-2005 04:2 PM

I didn't know that a 4. Audigy was ever released. Anyway, uninstall the drivers and move the card to PCI slot 3 and manually remove the registry entries as follows:
. Delete the files from "\Creative".
    2. Delete the following registry node from the registry
    (a) HKLM\Software\Creative Tech\Software Installed
    (b) HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uni nstall\5CDDF96A-BC34-4D72-9ABA-EFFF0C39977
Reinstall the drivers from the original driver CD, do not update any drivers just yet. See how that goes.

  • Sound Distortion with Itunes 7 Upgrade

There's a lot of talk about the audio distortion. Those that didn't have success with changing the Quicktime Sound Output, try the follwing..
Disable Crossfade in Itunes. Under Edit-->Preferences on the Playback tab.
    Uncheck Crossfade Playback.

I'm afraid I wasn't using Crossfade in the first place, so this solution doesn't work for me.

  • Sound Problems with Audigy 2

I just bought the Audigy 2 ZS Gamers Edition.
I am now having trouble with the sound with games I have or ones that came with the card.
I try to play Raven Shield and I get no sound in the opening movies or in the menus. In game I can't hear my teamates responses, music,or the voice that says if you fail the mission or complete it but I can hear all other sounds fine. I have the EAX option selected.
Now if I go into the DXDIAG program and turn my acceleration down notch I get all my sounds back BUT I can't choose EAX in the sound options as it is now greyed out.Real nice putting a game in the box that claims to use the EAX HD sound but it really does not work.
The other one I have tried is Sid Meiers Pirates.Again I choose the EAX option in the sound menu and I loose half of my sounds in game. I choose the Surround Sound option and I get all sounds back again.
I am almost afraid to try any other games that use EAX as they seem to not want to work with this card without losing sounds even though it is supposed to support EAX. I am also thnking of returning the card and going back to Turtle Beach for my sound card because of these problems.
    My system is as follows.
    ASUS P5P800 Motherboard
    P4 3.0Ghz CPU 800Mhz FSB
    024 MB PC3200 RAM
    GeForce 6600GT video card

i wonder if anyone encounter a problem of playing games with EAXHD support, using my card (audigy 2 nx, or just audigy2).
in the game FAR CRY, when enabling EAX, after 2 min i hear a horrible sound, and right after my pc got stock! only the Reset button can help. not even CTRL ALT DEL.
another prob. is with Tomb Raider Legend, i hear cracking all the time, and they get lowder as the music and sound goes lowder.
i hope someone can tell me what to do, coz the Creative support doesn't...
i installed the card on 3 different PC's, different H/W. even formated my PC and Reinstalld WinXP.
the same result with both of the games.
i hope anyone here can help.

  • Sound problems with audigy platinum after software upgra

After updating software (and then deleteing and redownloading) I had the usual sounds from windows but no sound in other programs. The eax environment was turned to no effects. When I added effects there was then sound. This would be OK in games but is annoying when listening to news broadcasts on AOL.
    Any ideas?

Well now I'm confused alright. I told you I took out the TV tuner and everything seemed fine. Wrong! The system froze again while playing a DVD movie this time. Naturally I thought about the graphics card which is an Albatron FX 5200 (yes one of those about which NVidia appologised for their technical problems). So I opened the case and took the graphics card out and it was hot! I mean you could fry eggs on it. I checked the system's temperature and I got 58 degrees Celsius for the mainboard. I forgot to mention that I live in Greece and the atmosphere's temperature now is between 29 and 35 degrees celsius. Then I rememberd reading that the new FX series by NVidia are considered very bad graphics cards and besides everything they have cooling problems. So I stuck in my old graphics card (ASUS GEforce Ti 4200) and mounted an additional cooler fan on the case. Now the mainboard's temp doesn't rise over 49-50 degrees Celsius and until this time I haven't had any freezes. My guess is it wasn't the tuner after all. It was a temperature problem and since I'm working with programs that stress the CPU and Audigy to their limits (multiple music sequencing and audio mixing software) I have a good reason to believe that. So the FX 5200 is most likely to have caused it all. Needless to say that besides the extreme temperature the card has crappy performance as well no matter the 128 MB of RAM. I just hope I won't need any more fans to be able to work.

  • Sound distortion with de-linked audio

    Hi
I'm new to FC Express so I hope I'm making a glaring error and somone will be able to set me straight.
I'm running the latest fuly updated version of OSX on a powerbook (Power PC 1.67ghz with 2gb of RAM). The film clips I'll be referring to are stored on a 500 gb external LaCie drive. The version of FCE is 3.5.1 (with the latest updates downloaded).
The Data is HD video (PAL) recorded with a Sony HVR Z1E. The footage was captured using the HDV1080/50i specification. When it was captured using FCE I selected the "Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50".
Other than the issue I'm about to describe the laptop seems happy with the workload. All editing operations work without a glitch. Rendering is a touch slow.
The problem is as follows. I want to detach audio from some of the video for use as wildtracks. To do this I've been dragging the clip I want to the Timeline. Selecting it. Clicking the delink button. Selecting the video and deleting it. Just leaving me with the audio graphic.
But when I then play the audio in the Timeline the sound has distorted. You can hear an example of this here: http://www.ewanbailey.com/example1.html
(Just for reference the sound was fine in the Timeline when still running alongside the audio). (nb. What you're hearing is a clapper board then footsteps)
At first I thought that somehow the process of deleting the video had somehow corrupted the audio data. However I find that if I drag the same audio in to the Viewer (where it just appears as a waveform) and then play it, the distort is gone. For reference, this is the same clip played in the Viewer: http://www.ewanbailey.com/example2.html
If it helps, this is a screenshot of the arrangement I'm talking about:
http://www.ewanbailey.com/example3.html (nb. I'm aware that the audio is only carried on one channel - this was a choice in production).
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Power PC G4 1.67ghz 2gb RAM   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Following your thinking, I have tried setting up a sequence and selecting "DV PAL 48khz Anamorphic" from the "Load Sequence Preset" button on the Sequence set up menu. This means when I drag a clip into the Timeline it shows a red stripe at the top, which (I think) means it needs to be rendered. So I render "both" on the "render selection" menu.
This then means that the audio doesn't distort when I separate it from the video. And will behave in the way I need it to.
I know nothing about rendering and therefore can't figure out what this means. I have a nasty suspicion that it may mean that I used the wrong codec when importing the (7 hours) of footage. And therefore I'm going to have to re-render any clips that I want to use, which on a G4, takes an age.
(Or re-hire the camera and re-import the lot. Which also takes forever).
The only work around I can think of at the moment is to edit my sequence without rendering (ie. use the default codec for my footage "Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i50"). Then when it's pretty much set, change the codec in the settings to the one that works, render the entire sequence, then start working with the wildtracks I need to sort out the sound. If anyone follows all of this and knows of another way round, I'd love to hear it.
This may not be your field, but I appreciate your input so far. If you can interpret this at all I'd be in your debt. Also, if there's anyone else out there that picks up this thread and knows what I may have done/be doing wrong, feedback would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

  • Sound distorted with hdv

I am importing HDV video from a Canon HV20 using I Movie 06. The picture is good but the sound is distorted. It sounds like it is slow. The project imported at 1/2 to 1/4 time. Any suggestions as to how to solve this import problem?

But you said that the new OS installation has helped!!! So it must be something wrong with the OS or with the sound driver files..
The notebook supports an Realtek ALC 861 HD Audio sound chip. Visit the realtek website and try to reinstall the newest sound driver.
If it does not help install the OS again.. who knows why it happens... maybe a 3rd party applications has a bad influence on some registry keys or system files

  • Intermittent Sound Breakup With Audigy Va

I am getting intermittent breakup of sound which has become quite annoying. This happens
with playback of videos and music, however this doesn't happen on XP.
Has anyone else had this problem with any of the Audigy cards or am I the only one with
    this problem?
This happens both with the latest Vista driver and the XP driver I was able to install,
both give exactly the same result.

I've the same problem with my Audigy value, but if i switch to my onboard sound the problem stays the same, so i think it can't be the creative drivers...

Dear Apple - can you please contact me about this and let me know if this problem is a) recognized and b) going to be fixed shortly.
If anyone else has any info on this please let me know.
    Thanks

I've spent a few hours on this. I called Etymotic and they said buy the convertor cable. Someone mailed me and said, that will reduce the output (volume) and sound quality. Apple Europe thought they knew of the problem but it wasn't recorded on their support database and they would not contact someone like a product manager or support manager to confirm either way. So now my ER4-Ps are useless | or my ipod is useless and I am going to return it if apple can't tell me what's going on.
