Sound Dropping Out in Monitors and Timeline (R3D and .wav files in 5.5) - More RAM Needed?

Hi there,
I have an HP desktop that I’ve edited two feature films on, the first shot on the HVX200 (edited with CS4) and the second shot on the Canon 5D (edited with CS5). About to edit a new feature, shot at 4K on the Red Scarlet, using CS5.5.
I THINK I know what needs to happen here, but basically, at anything higher than 1/8 resolution, the footage is playing back slow, and then, when I synch up with my .wav sound files, the sound is dropping out after a second (unless I scale to frame in the timeline only, in which case the render bar goes from red to yellow and the sound remains, even if the picture is still choppy). Basically married image and sound will not play back properly unrendered.
So, I guess what I’m asking is: does this sound like a RAM issue? Should I go for 16? I currently have 8. There’s a lot going on on this computer. (Specs are below.)
One final question, albeit a more minor one: why does the frame Fit properly in the Source Monitor but need a Scale to Fit instruction every time to fill the Project Monitor? Is there a way to make an entire Sequence Scale to Fit permanently?
Again, my computer specs are below.
Thanks!
Stephen
HP Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q9300 @ 2.50GHz

8.0 GB Physical Memory
Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium Edition (64-bit)
Service Pack 2
ATI Radeon HD 4850 (recently updated)
512 MB Memory (since updated to CS5.5 specifications)

There is still not enough ram in the listed PC, and the 530 is a poor choice. Nvidia list the memory type as DDR3, where you want a card with DDR5. You can get a suitable system for close to the price that is listed. You want to look at Harms hardware guide, and likely shop a custom builder.
You want
CoreI7 or high end I5
Minimum 12 gb memory for HD editing
Minimum 2 physical drives (system & media)
gtx card with at least 1gb ddr5 memory.( I would shop for more memory for 4K footage ) The more CUDA core, the better.
I spent a little more than you or I really wanted to spend on my CS5.5 box $1400 However it works brilliantly.
Core I5 2500k
16gb memory
2x 74GB 10K raptor drives raid0 system drives
2TB media drive
GTX 560Ti 1GB with 384 CUDA cores.
You could shave this system down to under $1k for something that works great.
The GTX555 seems like the base level card to me. A GT or lower spec card  might be a gamble.
Look at gamer machine builders rather than prebuilt desktops. They let you choose parts. That is where to start shopping.

  • 46 minutes in movie all sound drops out

I am extremely frustrated, I have one on one and they could not help me. Please Help, for the last 4 weeks I have been trying to burn a 53 min video from FCS using I-movie 08 and 46 min into it the sound drops out. I have tried all the advise posted in the last Month.

Just a thought...how are you importing the movie into iDVD? If you are sending it from within iMovie, try importing it directly from within iDVD. Select 'Media' and then 'Movies' locate your movie and drag/drop it onto iDVD's main screen, being careful not to put it into a drop zone.
I also suggest that you recreate your iDVD project. I don't think the problem movie clips are corrupt because they worked in another iDVD project.

  • Sound Drop Out When Attempting to Use Multiple Speakers

Disclaimer: I've spent 3-4 hours searching for the answer, so - I'm posting another "Sound Drop Out" thread.. sorry!
I have 1 new AirPort Extreme, and 3 Expresses. I can stream music to one at a time without much problem. As soon as I try to go to more than 1 the sound gets very, very choppy (this includes 1 airport express and the computer speakers).
My iTunes library is on a USB airport disk shared from the Extreme.
I see many posts about not being able to connect to multiple speakers with Leopard 10.5.1 (which I am using) - but I am not getting the error messages those people are seeing. Also, my firewall is configured correctly.
My network is well within 150ft. The extreme is creating a network, and all the expresses are configured to join the network. I thought of setting up a WDS network, but would this be worth the trouble (I am having problems getting it configured correctly)?
I doubt signal strength is a problem. If I can stream to the express alone, why cant I play to the express and the computer speakers simultaneously? That wouldn't have anything to do with the wireless network signal strength?
Looking forward to your suggestions. I'm spending way too much time getting this to work. Apple is supposed to "just work" -right? LOL.

I think this has to do with the airport scanning for different networks. I have 2 airport express stations hooked up in different rooms, and the speakers drop out all the time. It *****.
But when I watch the airport on my laptop (streaming the music), the time counter next to the airport icon goes away momentarily. I think it's somehow disconnected from the network, or is scanning networks.
There are a number of posts regarding the airport constantly scanning networks, but I haven't found anything yet that helps keep the airport connected. It definitely seems to be worse in the evenings when a lot of people are using their computers.
When your speakers drop out, do the numbers next to the airport icon (on the serving computer) freeze or disappear?

  • Random sound drop out

After updating recently I have had the irritating problem of the sound dropping out in between songs. To correct the problem I hit pause and play and it comes back, but not good. Anyone have any insight?

Sound drops - out on load explosions on action films then returns seconds later - no good if your watching Transformers or any new block buster. Could it be setting that I can fix I don't want to play with the Firmware or is my sound card on the way out? TV cost £1300 6 years ago shame to take to the dump  ... any help would be grateful

  • I can hear people on call but sometimes they can't hear me, it maybe fine for afew mins but then sound drops again? Anyone have this problem and find a solution? Thanks.

I have an Iphone 4 13.5 GB, iOS 7.1.2. Currently when I make a call or someone calls me, I can hear people on call perfectly but sometimes they can't hear me. It maybe fine for afew mins but then sound drops again? Anyone have this problem and find a solution? Thanks.

I have taken it back to the Apple store genius bar, but they say they don't see anything wrong. Well unless you use it all day and experience the problems when they happen, you wont see anything wrong. But there are lots wrong with it. But this would be the same store as I purchased the phone. And they backed up my old Iphone 4, but were not able to get anything to load back onto my new phone. So, I lost pretty much everything. But over time, some of my contacts have started showing up, although i am still missing over 800 of them.

  • I'm doing a simple edit and after editing clips for a while I am dropping sound. Why is the sound dropping out?

I'm doing a simple edit. The clips audio is fine when previewed or when in the time line. However, after editing for a while the audio is now dropping out. I have moments when just a frame or two drop our or even several seconds. What can I do to fix this without having to start over again? Thanks.

    Thanks for the info.
To my third question, how are you exporting? For example, if you selected Export Media before you added the third party effects, I would expect that the export went pretty quickly. If that is what you did, open that file in QuickTime and hit command i to show the format of your exported movie.
Or perhaps your Share workflow was "send to Compressor"?
I don't have any experience Digital Hotcakes products. When you say "it worked" with the reception video, do you mean the same DHB effects you used in the multicam project? Was the reception video the same format as your multiclip?

  • Audio dropping out during playback in timeline

    Hey everyone,
I've dug through these forums and unless I just completely overlooked it I have not found a solution to this issue. I've listed my setup below and then have stated the issue I'm experiencing.
    27-inch, Mid 2011 iMac
    3.4 GHz Intel Core i7
    16GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    AMD Radeon HD 6970 1024MB
    Running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
    Currently working off of a portable 1TB G-Technology G-DRIVE via FW800.
Working in Premiere Pro CS6 Version 6.0.2
Editing in a sequence with settings:
    1920 x 1080 23.976fps (also tried in a 29.97fps timeline with same issue)
Working with footage that is 23.98fps
Working with a combination of ProRes 422 (LT) and native H.264 Quicktime files strait from a 5D Mark 3.
The issue I'm having is during playback the audio will competely drop out. The video will continue playing on just fine but the audio drops completely out. All audio levels drop as well in the audio mixer meters so it truly is losing all communication with my audio layers in the timeline.
I read in other forums to go into Finder and delete out the .caf files, re open Premiere Pro, wait for them to be recreated then carry on. I tried this approach with no luck. Deleting the .caf did not change anything. Audio is still dropping out as I try to play through my timeline. The only way to get the audio back is to pause then press play again. I have 5 total channels of audio with only 2 of those channel active.
Any ideas on what is happening would be greatly appreciated. This is incredibly frustrating have to export out a video just to be able to watch it through.

Having this annoying problem also.  Using the Space Bar to play timeline it takes pressing and holding to a count of three or trying press play three time in a row using the space bar to get ungarbled audio, or any audio at all in a normal uncomplicated sequence on the timeline.
Really annoying.  Audio used to be so simple and untaxing to a sequence.

  • IMovie sound dropping out

I imported clips from my students plays. I placed the clip on the timeline. It sounded fine. I placed another clip before it on the timeline. Suddenly the sound on the first clip is missing. You hear the sound fade in with the transition, but when it gets to the actual clip, it drops out completely.
I have tried rendering the sound. I have updated my quicktime. I am at a loss. Also I lost the tape so I can't re-import the clip (GGrrrrrr!)
    Woe.
    Abigail

Yes I tried all of that. It was running fine. Until I inserted another clip before it in the time line.
@Illinois: not just a "plopp", but
    completely missing, as I understood...
    Hi Abigail,
maybe you have changed incidently the volume of this
specific clip (the first imported, the last in
    timeline... )
have you tried to "adjust" the volume of this clip -
    the one without sound?
have you tried to extract the audio from that clip?
or, maybe, you've done that before and that specific
audio track/layer is switched off? (checkbox right
    hand side)?
we'll make the movie run!!! many knobs and nibbles to
play with... ooops! that is a little
    misunderstanding in english, right? ;-))))

  • Sound drop out when exporting to Quicktime movie.

One track of three sound tracks drops out after a few seconds then reappears a few seconds later when exporting to QT Movie. The project functions perfectly when printing to video. Am using QT 7.1.3 FCE HD 3

    Hi(Bonjour)!
Try to make an "audio-mixdown" of your final sequence
    in timeline.
    Michel Boissonneault
Thanks for the info. I managed to overcome the problem initially by copying onto miniDV then re-capturing and exporting the result., but Mix Down is much nicer.
However, prior to upgrading to FCE-HD, I am fairly certain I have made more complex projects with no problems. Now quite frequently I get a message suggesting I reduce the number of RT tracks, or increase the speed of my computer. Is there something in FCE HD that requires these modifications, or have I a rogue project.
Does anyone know what is the actual difference between High Medium & Low qualities with Audio & Video?
    Thanks

  • 5.1 sound dropping out in Soundtrack

    Hi all,
Got a problem with Sountrack Pro.  I'm mixing a 5.1 soundtrack for a project I'm doing. Every now and again, the audio on a certain track will drop out on some, but not all speakers, even though it's panned to play on them all.  Other sounds which are panned to the same speakers will play normaly.
I'm using the digital outputs on a Kona 3 breakout box connected to 5 speakers (not using LFE).
    Hope that makes sense.
    Cheers,
    John

  • AE Sound dropping out

Has anyone else had problems with AE dropping out in the middle of a song, presumably due to a buffer underrun, and whether there is any way to fix it? (aside from writing your own MP3 player and hooking it up to Airfoil, and/or writing your own network stack..) It very annoying, as I use AE basically to provide backing for singing practice..
Here's my machine confiuration and a song that does it a lot:
Machine: iBook Dual USB 800 MHz, 640 MB RAM
    System: 10.4.5, iTunes 6.0.3
Song: "A New Life" (Linda Eder, Jekyll and Hyde)
Encoding: MP3, 228 kbps VBR, 44.1 kHz, encoded with iTuenes 4.0.1
Problem begins at: 3:05 of 4:40
Network setup: computer connected to Netgear DG834 (802.11b) router, AE connected to same router, both wirelessly. Computer approximately 15 feet from router, AE approximately 20 feet away.
Open Applications: Camino, Mail, Sound Stdio (open empty doc, not recording), Revolution, XBattery, and of course iTunes
I thought originally that it was when the MP3 got to a VBR section, so the decoding/reencoding-as-Apple Lossless just couldn't keep up. But now it's doing the same thing with "Beyond Imaginiation" (Sissel, My Heart), which is endoded as Apple Lossless, so it shouldn't be doing any reencoding. Sometimes rebotting the AE or the mian router will stop it for a while. Anyway, if the VBR-decoding/ALC-coding is taking too long, shouldn't iTunes be able to tell that, and have and just adjust the length of whatever internal buffer of ALC sound it has read to stream out? I've got 640MB, and a 4:40 ALC file should only clock in at about 35-40 MB, so I'd think it could ALL go into a buffer.
I just restarted the AE (hard reset by power cycle), which didn't seem to help, and then soft-reset the main router, which has it behaving, for now.. (for the ALC song and the MP3 VBR song as well)

  • Sound Drop Outs-Sony Bravia KDL403

I recently bough a Sony Bravia KDL 403, and have been experiencing sound dropouts whilst viewing recordings on BT Vision. I am connected via HDMI. The sound has recorded, but as I say during playback drops out.
    Any suggestions?
    Alan

While it was playing did you test the channel on other TV's in your house? Also have you had other audio dropouts on that or other channels?

  • Multicast Channels Sound Drop Outs / Picture Pixel...

Had this issue for months now and its totally unique to broadband channels.  Its been a problem since leaving sky and joining BT in august.
Had around 5 engineers out who all say "Im the wrong type of engineer for this job, all i can do is check your broadband"
Sound just randomly drops out and picture quality on ondemand such as kids is getting noticeably worse.
Im on BT Infinity and get 79Mb DL which im told has no errors whenever an engineer checks however the guys on the phone tell me they can see my line is losing packets.  line correction has been applied and my speed was halved to 35Mb! This did NOT fix the problem.
Watching channel 4 HD at the mo and if im being honest its like the kids have the remote and keep pushing Mute.
Had a REIN test and nothing is interfereing
Im at the end of my tether
Oh and Both Box AND router have been swapped out
Its a Black BT Vision Box and BT Home Hub 4
Anyone had this issue and got it fixed?

I wonder if the issue might lie with the HH4. Do you have an HH3 to hand or could you borrow one to try?
I know that is not very helpful. The only other thing might be to swap to a YouView box.
I assume you have tried different ports in the HH4?
