Sound effe

Hello All,
I just bought a new Dell XPS 600. It has the X-FI extreme music card in it. I was wondering if there is a place in the software where I can add things like echo, reverb and others. Not to recordings, but to the sound that comes from my speakers all the time. Or do I just have the choices of modes like "theater" or "concert hall" Any info would be appreciated.
Bob

Ehm, ok... think that this answers to my query.
Thank you for your reply,
cheers,
franz

  • Multichannel playback capabilities for sound effe

I would like to set up a nature sound effects system using 7 to 8 independent channels, each of which will play a separate wave file through a separate speaker. I have no need to record using the soundcard.
What is the most economical soundcard and software that will do this for me?
I assume that I have to have a 7. card with ASIO drivers that will interface with some type of Audio editing program that will recognize the 8 separate channels of the soundcard and let me "map" each track to an individual soundcard channel?

Click on Start> ALL Programs > Creative > Creative Audio Console.
Make sure speakers are set to 5. if that's what you're using. I like to Synchronize with Windows Control Panel. Turn EAX to No effects, and/or turn effects to 0%. On the CMSS 3D Tab, turn the Mode to OFF.

  • Dedicated sound buttons have no eff

    Hi guys,
I just bought a Xfi ExpressCard Sound Blaster. When I choose the selection "enable audio playback through notebook speakers," my dedicated sound buttons on my laptop (mute, increase/decrease volume) do not work at all.
Like, if I'm watching music on youtube... if I right-click the speaker on the toolbar and choose volume mixer, I see three parts: devices, window sounds, and youtube. If I press the mute button for the device part, the youtube video will continue playing. however, when I press the mute for the youtube (on volume mixer), the mute will work.
I just want my dedicated audio buttons to work when I choose the enable audio playback through notebook speakers. If I don't select it and listen through my headphones, then?the buttons will work...
    ?thanks

    Hi there,
I hate to bring you bad news, but this is a known issue with no known fix. Well, I don't know whether Creative has acknowledged it as an issue or not, but its been posted several times on these forums, without much response. I've been in circles with their tech support on this.
There are a few things you could try, and these are the things that Creative will suggest:
. Make sure that the Sound Blaster is the default sound device
    2. Try disabling the onboard sound device in the BIOS and/or in Windows (via Device Manager and/or Sound Control Panel applet)
    3. Uninstall the Creative X-fi software and reinstall in Safe Mode (and then make sure that you update it)
If you happen to have a Dell XPS M530, don't bother with the above; it's what I have. If it isn't this model, what computer do you have, and what is the onboard sound device? I'm curious whether this might be partly Dell's and/or SigmaTel's fault, or if its more general than that.
Here's what's happening, as far as I can tell: When you enable playback through the notebook speakers, all your volume controls modify the volume of the X-Fi device. You'll note that, in this situation, if you go into the (I assume you have Vista?) the Volume Mixer and change the device to the onboard sound device to show its volume slider, modifying that one will work. So the sound is really still coming from your onboard sound device, and if you watch in the Sound Control Panel applet when sound is playing, you may see activity on both the X-Fi device and the onboard device. You may also note that the card's special effects don't work in this mode either.
Now, this is why they recommend to disable the onboard device, but on the XPS M530, the speakers will not work at all with the onboard device disabled, and the Creative software will tell you that when you try to test playback through notebook speaker.
I wish I could help. I'm going to continue to press on the Tech Support front, maybe ask to get escalated. I'll update you if I can get anywhere.

  • Flash Player causes computer to crash and no computer sound?

    Hi all,
Was wondering if you guys could help me out.
Basically I have a fairly new computer (Dell Studio 1557).
After a couple of days of use I booted up like I normally do and tried watch some YouTube videos,
The video failed to load and once I clicked anywhere in the browser it became non responsive and forced me to close the browser (Firefox), a similar situation occurs with all the other browser i have (chrome won’t even load)
The browser freezes if I try to access anything with flash on the webpage.
Another thing that seems to be affected is the computer’s sound, Every time the flash player doesn't work the sound on the computer won't work either(not just flash videos on websites). Programs like itunes,VLC,WMP fail to load because they all use sound.
The only solution I’ve found is to restart the computer although the problem is back the next day, I've tried all the usual stuff (reinstalling flash, the browsers, and making sure the audio drivers are up to date).
Anybody out there have a similar problem or any solutions, any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Shockwave Flash 10.1.53.64

If your sound is crashing "system wide" your problems are deeper (a lot deeper) than Flash Player.
Make sure you have your Windows 7 DVD.
Click Start and Run (if the Run Command isn't in your Start Menu, you can add it by right clicking the Start button and choosing Properties, then go to Start Menu and Customize.
In the Run window type "sfc /scannow" minus the quotes, of course. That's ess eff see space slashscannow exactly as it appears between the quotes.
This will start the Windows System File Checker (SFC) and will scan your OS to ensure all necessary system files are intact and uncorrupted.
It may ask for the Windows 7 DVD if it finds something it cannot repair, so you need to have it handy.

  • Lock ups and sound looping!

I remember reading something here about people having trouble with their systems locking up and then getting a loud static noise then a sound loop when playing games.
I am getting this about 2-3 times a night now and it is driving me nuts, I do not have temp problems of any sort and I have all of the latest drivers for everything on my system.
      Any ideas?

  • My downloaded text sounds do not show up under the sounds tab in settings after installing 8.1.1. can someone help me please?

i downloaded a couple text tones and since installing 8.1.1, they will not show up under the sounds tab. in fact, they do not show up in my recent purchases on itunes, but when i go to buy them again, it says that i have already bought this tone. I just want to use the tones i paid for as the tones on my phone. not asking much.... thanks for the help. i hope someone can help me get the tones working. thank you.

This was happening to me too but only for some of my songs. I have a mac so I dunno about PCs, but for most of my ringtones I had to create an ACC version in itunes to make them short enough then turn that into a m4r and those all worked fine. But if the song was already short enough and I didn't create an ACC version and just turned the original into a m4r, then it wouldn't appear in my itunes.
so if you're on a mac:
    1. go to get info, options, pick when you want the song to start and end.
Has to be pretty short to work, 30 second or less is good
if it's already short enough that's fine
    2. right click and click 'create ACC version'
a copy with the length you put in will appear, drag that into a folder or whatever and just type in m4r where m4a would be
still make an ACC version even if it's the right length
    Hopefully this helps someone else.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including Wi-Fi on certain iMacs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

  • Loading sound clips in my swing application

I have searched all the forums, din't find what i want.
I have many small sound files to be played in my application. Even on mouse Pressed, Drage etc etc....
Now I was looking for a better way of Loading the Sound files in memory as the application starts.....
If I use the Clip Interface of javax.sound and initilize them and open a stream, invoke the open() method, and store it in hashmap. So that when ever i need that file i will lookup for that clip and trigger the start() method which actually plays the sound. IS the approach the right approach, will not the Cip object keep the IO handle open, I have nearly 40 Clips to be loaded.
Can any one suggest me the better way of implementing this.
    TIA
    Zoha

As far as I know, there is no facility for detecting mouse scrolling wheel in JDK 1.3.
Check it in the later releases of JDK.

  • Help with sound to LCD TV when using HDMI

I would love any assistance with a problem I am having. I have a new mac mini with a 40" Proscan LCD. I am using a mini-DVI to HDMI adapter and am getting great video - 1080. My issue is that via Keynote I need to get sound to the LCD TV. It is coming through the mini speaker - what do I need to do to get the sound over to the TV? Any assistance would be appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
The user guide which came with your TV should cover the issue in the different connections available for your unit.
DVI is video only. HDMI is audio and video. If you are using an adapter to connect DVI to HDMI there is no audio because of this. So to connect a Mac mini with a DVI to HDMI adapter you will also need an audio cable to run the audio from the mini's audio outport to an audio inport on the TV. This is why I refer you to the user guide for your unit, because it should point out the correct port to use on the TV, as well as point out if you have options for using analog or digital audio. The mini's audio ports can do both.

  • Apple Mini-DVI to DVI Adapter problem: no sound.

I couldn't find a more suited thread to discuss my issue so, this can be moved in deemed necessary. I recently purchased a DVI cable, seen below, but all I can get is the video to work. When I use the appropriate yellow cable for sound, the TV won't pick it up. It really seems like this is something that can't be fixed, but I figure it is worth asking about. Thanks.

The yellow cable is likely not an audio cable, but an S-Video cable, useful for some projectors that don't have a VGA or DVI port, or many TVs which only support S-Video. If you want audio separate from the computer, most speaker systems at least support RCA Red/White left/right channel sound into the 1/8th inch audio port found on most Macs. Some Macs and sound software as outlined here offer additional channels for sound:

I've never seen a yellow colored cable used for audio.

  • How to connect sound or audio to my tv using hdmi adapter. I tried to connect thru sound settings but my tv is not found.

how to connect sound to my tv set using hdmi adapter. Im using 2009 macbook pro 13". I went to sound settings then output and it shows internal speaker built- in, it wont locate my tv set. pls. help, thanks

You probably can't because it looks like your MacBook Pro is too old to carry audio over HDMI. You will need to run a separate audio cable from the audio out port on the MacBook Pro to the audio in port on the TV.
Check your MacBook Pro model year against the list in this Apple tech note:

  • What do I need to connect my late 2009 Mac book (mini display port) to the TV and get sound?

    I'm totally confused!
I have a late 2009 model Macbook. And I want to connect it to my TV.
So my research has led to believing I need a Mini display port adapter and a HDMI cable - but from some of what I have read, this won't carry sound...
Can anyone clarify this and what I do actually need?

The Mini DisplayPort to HDMI doesn't carry audio unless you have the Mid 2010 model 7,1 and there're no audio plugs on most TVs to work with HDMI since it's expecting audio with theHDMI.
If you have the Late 2009 model 6,1 White Unibody with the MiniDisplay Port there is an adapter that can combine video and audio to HDMI.

i have one of the old macbooks and wish to hook it up to my tv. do i need a mini dvi to hdmi adapter plus a 3 rca phono lead with a jack for the sound. please help as im useless at this stuff. cheers

First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 model 6,1 and Mid 2010 model 7,1 White Unibody have a Mini DisplayPort. The Early 2006 model 1,1 through Early 2008 model 4,1s plus the Early and Mid 2009 model 5,2s have Mini-DVI ports. Each would take a different adapter to connect with the TV.
