Sound Effect Library

Kind of off topic, but if anyone could reccomend an extensive sound effects library it'd really be appreciated. Right now I'm looking for automobile sounds, but realize I'd like to have a full effects library handy. Who's got the best stuff?

I use various libraries from Sound Ideas (http://www.sound-ideas.com/). Their Series 5000-Wheels collection contains 24 CD's of various cars & trucks. There stuff is very well recorded and easy to search. Other collections, like the Series 6000 are quite varied, definitely worth a look.

Why is the sound effects library missing from the audio menu is FCPX 10.1

Up until version 10.1 Final Cut Pro had a sound effect library under the music tab.
Its now completely missing and only shows itunes.
Has anyone else noticed this problem and know how to put it back to the way it used to be.

follow BenB's solution as follows:
Minor upgrade glitch, don't move any folders.
Quit FCP X.
If you have GarageBand, launch it.
Quit GarageBand.
Reboot your Mac.
Open FCP X, you should be fine.
Repeat once or twice if needed.

Where is the sound effects library?

I have Final Cut Studio 2. Where is the sound effects sound library located? I accidentally found the royalty free music stored in a obscure place?

Help! iMovie 10.0.2 does not show my entire sound effects library

I've been building an extensive iLife sound effects library to use for my videos and when I open the library in a wondow it shows all of my audio files. When I try to import sound files in iMovie 10.0.2 however, it only shows the standard audio files from apple, it does not show my own imported files. How do I get to my files in the new iMovie? I'm getting very frustrated, I need to get this project done quickly and I keep running into problems like this with this new updated version This is taking up too much of my time! Please help!

No, I did not.
Meanwhile I have found the reason for the projects disappear in my libraries! The problem is caused by using the dash "#" symbol in my project names.
I have created another project with a dash in the name and the project also disappeared in iMovie with the same effect that the underlying data was still in die library.
Apple should release a warning that some special characters are not allowed to be used in project names or better should solve this.

Soundtrack -missing sound effects from the library

Hi everyone,
I have recently installed Soundtrack onto my computer ( I have FCE HD) and the content onto an external HD.
Unfortunately I have noticed that there seems to be a fairly large section of sound effects missing, including "weapons" and "explosions". The reason I know these are missing is because there are greyed-out buttons for them where there is other ones present such as "Sci-fi" and others.
Can anyone help me find where these are- or do i not get a full sound effect library with FCE?
I'd be grateful if anyone could help.

Soundtrack Pro, that comes with FCP, is a different application, with more capabilities, than Soundtrack. Did you connect all your sounds up? If yes, if you selected the folder that contains them, then that's all you get. You can add more loops from sound libraries online. There are pre-built categories that the Acid loops format uses that will get assigned to the different sections as you add them.

What happened to all the cool sound effects from Soundtrack Pro?

I've recently had to upgrade my imac and macbook pro and my Final Cut Studio 7 isn't compatible with the newer verison Macs. How can I get access to the sound effects that came with the older garage bands and soundtrack pro applications? I've purchased Final Cut X and Logic Pro, but still seams as if the older verisons have better sound effects.

Have you a backup of your older system?
Then try to restore these folders from your backup to a folder on your Desktop and add all missing loops to your loop library in the corresponding folders: You'll find them in the "Library" folder directly at the top level of all files on your Macintosh HD:
/Library/Audio/Apple Loops for Soundtrack Pro/
/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/iLife Sound Effects/
/Library/Audio/Apple Loops/Apple/Final Cut Pro Sound Effects/
After you restored the folders with the loops use the command "Reindex all Loops" in the "Loops" drop down menu in the Loop Library.

FCP7 Taking an mp3 file (sound effect from imovie library to compressor then import to FCP7

I am clicking and dragging from iMovie sound effects into FCP7 in it's original format mp3 then I am sending it to compressor and using a 48-16 codec
to compress it then I am going back to FCP7 and trying to import it but it does not show up on either my internal drive or external drive. Am I missing something? I have done this all before. Thanks.

I'm much more lazy - as I have one way to handle Audio and it always works for my projects.
• I convert all to .aiff 48kHz 16-bit - or use Audio-CDs .aiff 44.1kHz
Everything I convert to this - by use of the free program - Audacity
or from iTunes - by burning out on an Audio CD (still .aiff - no .mp3 or ect)
These files works greatly in all my Movie/DVD projects.

In Garage Band on iPAD, is there a way to make each key on the keyboard play a different sound effect?

I'd like to be able to play a number of selected sound effects using the keyboard in Garage Band. I've figured out how to import audio tracks from my itunes library into a track in Tracks View.

GarageBand on iPad does not have the SoundEffects instruments, that GarageBand on Mac has.
The closest you can get to this on your iPad will be the "Sampler" instrument. You can record a sound sample and play it using the "Sampler" instrument and adjust the pitch.
But you cannot assigne different samples to different keys.

Logic Studio install - Sound Effects option disabled

When I go to install Logic Studio, in the list of things to install the selections "Sound Effects" and "Music Beds" are greyed out and uncheckable. If I install everything I can select, it skips the discs Audio Content 1 and 2. Is there a way to get at least the Sound Effects option enabled?
(This is for Logic Studio upgrade w/ Logic Pro 9, upgrading from Logic Express 8)

So I understand correctly that you are not involved in creating music in any way? Then Logic is NOT what you are looking for. It is mainly aimed at either recording and/or composing original music, and not as a ready to select library sort of thing.
Unfortunately, I can't tell you what you should get, but maybe one of the pro guys can help you out. You'll probably find some users here who actually make the sort of content you want to use.
Logic Pro is the main program in the Logic Studio set.

How to use custom sound effects

One of the few good things one could do in Windows was to assign any sound effect you wanted to use to just about any operating system or other event. For example, you could have Captain Pecard say "Minimize" whenever you minimized a window.
OS X (10.7 Lion in my case) doesn't make this as easy. If you want to add your own sound effects to the pre-installed sound effects you get when you open System Preferences → Sound → Sound Effects, you must manually add them to the correct folder after first converting them into .aiff format.
I've done all this successfully, but I don't know the last step, namely, how to assign the new sound to a 'Custom' event. I see my new sound files in the right place (System Preferences → Sound → Sound Effects), but it just says 'Custom' for the alert sount type.
Help would be appreciated.

So? Just select the name. BTW, all that does is select which one you want to use for ALERTs, nothing else. For anything else, such as those contained in
/System/Library/Components/CoreAudio.component/Contents/Resources/SystemSounds/f inder/ you need to rename the new sound as the original and put them into that same location.

Sound effects During a transition

Is there a way to play sound DURING a transition from one slide to the next? e.g. I would like to use the Shutter transition and play a camera shutter sound effect while you see the shutter close and open. Another example would be a bang during a Fall transition, as if it hit the floor. I currently have a large library of effects I can use.

Why are Vocal Lyric found loops under Sound Effects in Apple Loops

Was About to explore what Vocal lyrics are available in Apple Loops of Logic Pro when I realised that a lot are duplicated in Sound Effects filter as well as Vocals filter.
Also, some vocals Lyrics are only in Sound Effects.
Why aren't Vocal Lyric loops filed only under Vocals? After all, they are not what I would consider to be Sound Effects.

I think iWeb and iPhoto both use the iTunes Library as their default source for music. You could try going to iTunes, change the iTunes preference to NOT copy files (there's a check box in Preferences->Advanced/General) into the Library, or else have it import the aif files as mp3s (also in Advanced, click the Importing tab), then add the music files to iTunes.

Problem finding my sound effects and music in final cut pro X

I am having a problem finding my sound effects and music in final cut pro X. I just bought a new i
Mac, because my Mac pro died. when I was using the mac pro, I had final cut Pro X loaded, and in the Music and sound library, I had stock tracks from APM music that came with final cut. now that I have loaded final cut to my new computer, I do not see those tracks. Am I missing something?

The FCP X sound effects were an additional external download and were not kept in the FCP X application.
You probably need to re-download them.
In the FCP menu at the top left of your screen you will see the download link.

How to add new alert sounds to Sound Effects in Sys. Prefs

I'd like to add a sound (it's in MP3) to the Sound Effects in System Preferences. How do I do this?

Hi Craig, if it isn't playing in the actual folder then something went wrong in your conversion. Exactly how did you do the conversion? And how did you get it out of iTunes (if that is what you used for the conversion) to use it as a sound effect?
I have a one second piano chord in mp3 stashed away in a sound collection folder. I double click it and it opens in iTunes. I then go to iTunes Preferences, click on Advanced, then click the Importing tab, and change "Import Using" to "AIFF Encoder" (my default is MP3 Encoder) and click the OK button. Go back to the regular iTunes window and select your mp3 file, then go up to the Advanced menu and select "Convert Selection to AIFF"--it should convert it very quickly. Grab the new aif file and drag out of iTunes window onto the Desktop. Do GetInfo on it and change the extension to .aiff (iTunes exports it plain name.aif). While you are in GetInfo verify that it plays in the Preview section. Now add it to the /System/Library/Sounds folder. Oh, and remove the one that doesn't work. You'll have to authenticate to do that too.

Are there any STP sound effects usage restrictions?

Are the sound effects in STP free to use? Like could I use them in a feature film if I wanted? A website? Anything? I'm not asking about other companies- I'm talking specifically about the sound effects that come with STP.
