Sound events for iBook

You know how MacOSX is a bit silent right? well, is there any way to make more sound events, like when your computer comes out of sleep, or when the computer log off or when shutdowns, or when the AC adapter is connected, or when I have a low battery? sort of like those Windows computers, is there any program for the iBook?

I've never tried it (I kind of appreciate peace and quiet when I'm not listening to iTunes), but you might like Xounds.

Looking for External Sound Device for iBook G4

Does anyone know of an external audio device similar to Creative Technology's Sound Blaster Extigy that will work with my iBook G4? I would like to record CDs played through an external CD player that has audio compression. Unfortunately the iBook lacks audio inputs. Thanks.

I had an Extigy with my previous notebook (presario 1500) and absolutely loved the sound I got through my creative 5.1 speakers, at least when my computer was working properly
I see the sonic theatre as the mac equivalent, although it doesn't appear to have a remote, oh well. I have no idea how much of the software will work on a mac, but it can't be too hard to find some good audio software.

Suppress Ring/Sound Events

Is there a method to suppress sound events with any of the development SDK's.
My PALM allowed me to suppress SOUND events for anyone who was NOT in my contacts.
I can't seem to do that with my new iPhone
If one of the SDK's would allow trapping of sound events, then one could filter the caller id against a user setup list... Then it would be possible to either allow or disallow the sound event based on REGEXP filter of the user's list...

Is there a list of the sound-generating System events for OS X? How to tweak?

I work with a community with some minor physical and visual impairments. I have limited current OS X experience, and I am volunteering on their behalf. But this question is not directly about OS X assistive technologies. Right now, we would just like to add more+additional sound effects than seems to be the default for OS 10.8.
In particular we would like:
A loud sound when a USB device has become unplugged (when plugged in would be nice as well.)
A clear sound when a password has been entered incorrectly.
One of my users swears these sound events are already in there, and I am inclined to believe her. But confirming this is difficult on Mac OS 10.8.4 The “Sound Effects” dialog in the System Preferences only seems to be for alerts.
So two questions:
What are all the system sound events in OS 10.8.4
How can we configure the sounds that are played for individual events?

Growl.info and HardwareGrowler can play sounds when hardware in attached/removed.
Unplugged can tell you if your laptop power adaptor has been plugged in or unplugged.

Fixed my sound issues in KDE (no sound except for system events)

First, I'd like to say that I am by no means an expert and what I have below represents nearly a week of installing/reinstalling arch and trying various things to get my sound working correctly in KDE. In fact, yesterday I decided that I was just going to use mint because, even though I don't like it, at least the sound worked for me. I did decide to give it one more try this morning and finally was successful.
My system has an AMD A8-3850 processor, which I never would have bought if I had known all of the compatibility issues I would end up having with it. My problem was that I would hear event sounds in KDE (such as the start up sound) but I would get no sound within my browsers and flash and probably elsewhere. Also, even though I was hearing the system sounds, kmix showed my volume at 0% and that my device was muted. Trying to select the device in kmix didn't accomplish anything at all. Because of this, I had a feeling that the problem was that my sound was defaulting to my HDMI sound, which turned out to be right.
I'll try to be as brief as I can about the process I followed.
The first thing I did was get asoundconf from the AUR. I was then able to set my non-HDMI sound card as the default.

From that point, I installed PulseAudio and worked my way through the PulseAudio page on the arch wiki. After which, I was able to bring up the PulseAudio Volume Control (pvaucontrol) and turn off my HDMI sound all together.
Still, my sound did not work, though. After some searching I came to this page: http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Softwar … ktops/KDE/ which basically said that my kmix wasn't compiled with with pulse audio support. After a search for kmix on the AUR, I came to this package: kdemultimedia-kmix-git
After installing that, I reboot and all is right with the world... or at least my sound in KDE.
So that's it. I am sorry if this is poorly written, I do not write things like this very often. I was so happy, though, that I was actually able to fix it and I did want to share since I imagine that I am not the only one to have this problem.

If after installing the original drivers from the recovery manager you still have an issue with the sound, I suggest you do a recovery back to factory.

During the recovery you will see an option to backup your personal files to prevent data loss.

You could also test the audio card just to rule that possibility out.

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like the function to reseize the Font in an iBook is not functioning properly.
I recommend a few things here. First close all the apps that are running in the background:
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.

When you have done that, restart the phone, and try again.

2. Check for app updates
You can setup apps to update automatically in Settings > iTunes & App Store, but make sure that your apps are up to date:
Open the App Store and tap Updates. If updates are available, tap Update All.

Note: Some apps may require a Wi-Fi connection to update.
3. Install another app from the App Store
If none of your user-installed apps will launch, there could be an issue with Apple ID authorization. Download and install an app that isn't already installed on your device to reset this information. You can also remove an app from your iOS device and download it again from the App Store or sync the app from your computer.Note: If you have installed apps using multiple Apple ID accounts, you may need to perform this step for each account.
4. Restart the app
If the issue affects only a single app, try closing just that app.
5. Restart your device
Turn the device off and on.
6. Reinstall the affected app
Remove the app from your device and reinstall it:
Tap and hold any app icon on the Home Screen until the icons start to wiggle and show a small "x" in the top-right corner of the app.
Tap the "x" in the corner of the app you want to delete.
Tap Delete to remove the app and all of its data from your device.
Press the Home button.
Go to the App Store.
Search for the app and then download it again.

HTML5 audio widget for iBooks Author

Hello!
I'm creating a HTML widget for iBooks Author and I want to add a audio tag of HTML5 in my HTML file. When I do this, I test in Safari Browser and the audio sounds good, so I add my widget with the HTML file, sounds, Default.png and Info.plist and I do a Preview for see in iPad. When I open the widget in iPad the sound doesn't work and it show me a message like this:
"cannot play audio file"
The audio have a .m4a extension. I don't know what can I do...

I have the same problem. However, in my case it does work if I test the widget in an new empty book. When I add the widget to the real book it does not work. mabe you should do the test to troble-shoot and have a better idea of what is wrong in your case.
I will try to find a fix to the problem and let you know if I do. Please do the same if you find what the problem is.

I need help with Compressor 4 settings to convert .mp4 files to .m4v for iBooks Author

I'm a curriculum design guy with no video background. I have Compressor 4, but don't really know much about how to best use it. I'd appreciate some help with getting the right setting for my project. Screen shots of settings would be much appreciated, since I don't know much video terminology.
I'm making an free iBook for students on WWII propaganda using old videos from the Internet archive.
I'd plan to use Compressor to:
1. Convert the .mp4 files to a .m4v that iBooks Author will accept. (I know I can use QT for that, but it increases file size)
2. Use Compressor to reduce file size so my iBook doesn't get too big
3. Get videos that look & sound the best, given the poor quality of the original source videos.

Opening in on a Very old post, but i kind of need an onChange event functionality in one of my Web App. Basically we are dealing with a input field which is populated using a barcode scanner and the user wishes to be able to pull all the information related to the material number read by the scanner in an Input Field Element and display the related info in other fields "Without having to hit ENTER". Sounds a bit lazy but thts wht they need.
I was wondering if its possible to modify the SuggestValue functionality to implement such an event. Any pointers to documents which explain how the SuggestValue works? I am just looking for code blocks (even if they are AJAX/Javascripts) tht i can somehow modify to make this thing work.
P.S. Also if there is any other functionality already introduced by SAP since the last comment on this thread to help solve this will be helpful too

Sliders for iBook's widget built in iAd producer

I am attempting to build a widget that features sliders (general object) for iBooks in iAd producer. I added sliders in iAd Producer; have a minimum setting of 0.0, maximum of 10, and moving at increments of 0.5. I tested them in the preview funciton in iAd and the knobs on the sliders can be dragged up and down (at increments 0.5 becuase that is what I set it at), but when I export to a widget and drop it into an iBook and preview it, I lose the funciotnality of the knobs in the sliders. I can't drag the knobs back and forth anymore. Does anyone know why? Perhaps I missing an action...?

I dropped a slider and a label on a page then selected the slider and clicked the code button then selected to overrride the Did Change Value event handler and added the follwoing code:

I can slide the knob and the label updates as expected. I did need to tap the widget before I could intereact with it in an iBook but otherwise it works the same for me in an iBook on the device as it does in preview.

Sound Event lag on MBP

Hi All,
I have just recently purchased a MBP and have noticed a delay in the sound events and even when playing a audio file. I first noticed this when I emptied the trash and the sound came a good 2 seconds later.
Also when using MSN in the background the sound alert that a new message has been received intermittantly goes silent.
I have reset the PRAM, no effect.
Specs:
MBP 13" i5
OSX: Lion (fully updated with all firmware)
Purchse date: Oct 2011
How can I fix this problem?

I may have the same problem.
If there has been no sound in the previous 30 secs, there's a 2 second delay the next time there's a sound, e.g. if I start a video the audio only kicks in after the first 2 seconds. It applies to all applications and system sounds. If I stop a video and start it quickly thereafter there's no problem, but if I wait 30 secs or so there's a delay.
It's almost as though the audio is turned "off" after not being used for 30 secs, and when it is turned "on" it takes a couple of seconds to warm up.
My specs are the same as the original post.

Apple AV Cable for iBook?

Okay, so I got my new iBook and one of the "Apple AV Cables for iBook" that are sold through the online store. I plugged it in to my iBook and the TV, but all I get is sound. So, if my port is not an AV port, but rather an A port, if you will, what kind of iBook is it that DOES have an AV port? If none of them do, (seems odd that my brand new one wouldn't) how can Apple sell the things at all?
Let me know if I'm making some idiotic mistake.

Yeah, that cable is for older iBooks. iBook G4s use this adapter.
I made that same mistake before, and was forced to sell it on eBay to get a near 20 dollar profit back as Apple wanted a restocking fee I believe.
Notice that the iBook G4 adapter only outputs video. To output audio as well, you'll need to buy a "Y-Adapter" like the one here.
