Sound for MPG movies

I can't seem to hear sound from MPG movies from my Quicktime player and I can't hear sound from YouTube as well, anybody can help me? thx

There are a couple of things that can cause this issue. The problem could be related to a corrupted QuickTime installation. OR the issue could be caused by trying to play a movie for which you don't have the proper audio or video codec.
Open the movie in a QuickTime player. From the Window menu, you can view the movie info. Look at the info and determine what audio codec is used for the soundtrack. Out of the box, the codecs that QuickTime 7 supports can be found here:

If you find the movie is encoded with a codec not supported by QuickTime, you can Google search for that particular component, and install it.
To get movies to play in You Tube, you need to download the latest Macromedia Flash player.

Having a problem with the sound for purchased movies is skipping like a scratched CD

Every time I got to play a movie of Television show the sound keeps skipping like a scratched CD. I've tried redownloading but that doesn't seem to work. I dont know what else to do.

Thanks for the swift reply, I have been looking online and a loose plug seems to be somewhat of an issue with many, I hope mine is actually a problem and not what others are experiencing. It's taken me this long to even reach out for the simple fact I HATE being a complainer but this is just horrible.

No sound for uploaded movie into ipod

Can anyone help me out with this problem? I've changed the format to .mpeg4. There is motion but no sound. It's the same with the mtv I've uploaded.

You'll need to provide more information for us to figure out how to solve this problem.
When you play the movie in iTunes rather than on your iPod, do you hear sound? If not, the problem probably is with the video files rather than with your iPod.
How did you change the format?
Can you download one of the iPod-formated movie trailers from here and see whether the audio is OK?

My Ipad plays movies I bought from Itunes fine, but the ones I have converted dont have any sound. It seems like they worked fine until I updated it. Any suggestions?

What do you mean by you "updated it" - what, the iPad, the movies? What did you use to convert your movies to play on the iPad?

When I connect my iPad2 to my tv using the AV adapter I can hear sound for everything else except for my movies. I can hear tv shows, music, videos off YouTube, etc. I just can't hear the movies. Any ideas of what may be wrong?

Just connect the new iPod to your computer and setup the iPod via iTunes (instead of via wifi).

I downloaded ios7 and now have no sound when I play music on itunes nor do I have it when I try movies on Netflix. I get sound IF I plug in earbuds, but no sound if unplugged! NO SOUND! I get sounds for texts, calls, etc, but nothing else. HELP!

I used Mpeg Streamclip last night to take the .mov files to DV, but same thing I put into iDVD and made a disk image. Once all done i opened the image and the videos were there, but no audio.
This first dvd had 2 of the videos in it the totaled about 90mins. I will try using the higher format. Also with having MPEG streamclip now, I guess I should go back to the .WMV files and try to converting form them? instead of the .mov files.

ATV Movie rental...no sound on for 1 movie.

HI all,
I rented my 2nd movie via ATV last night and could get no sound at all from it. The 1st movie I rented last week was just fine, and any other content (previews, music, podcasts etc) was also fine so this was definitely just the individual movie, nothing else.
The only difference between this movie and the last one I rented was that this one was HD and the first one was SD, but that may not be the problem.
Has anyone else seen this issue? I am going to call Apple today to try to get the $4.99 back but I thought I would ask.

Similar situation for me - I rented my first movie last week on one Apple TV, and everything was fine. I rented a second film last night on a different Apple TV, and no audio for the movie (all other ATV audio - system sounds, preview, clips, YouTube - are fine)
Both were HD rentals. Both were connected via HDMI. When I tried an optical connection on the trouble film/ATV, I did get movie sound, but it was unlistenable - a very bizarre channel phase/reverbed sound.
I tried all of Apple HDMI KBase HDMI audio suggestions, to no avail - and the fact that all other audio on the unit played fine makes me think its an encoding issue on the film. The problem existed whether I connected the ATV to the display directly, or via an HDMI-compatible AV receiver

I have a suspicion that the problem is not in the recording device itelf, but rather in the playback-software, which is struggling with an unfamiliar audio format/codec/whatever-it's-called... I opened the file in QuickTime Player 7 (7.6.6) and selected "Show Movie Properties" and it says:
"Video Track: H.264
Sound Track: Integer (Little Endian)"
All current Mac systems support Integer (both Big and Little Endian) audio natively. The fact you can hear anything at all proves that the audio is playing back. The most likely problem would be a malfunction associated with the mic pickup.

Trying to import mpg movies shot using a Sony DSC T50 (a sweet little 7.2 Megapixel camera) into fcp....
The video comes across (although it seems to pick up some 'strobing' type artifacts)...but I'm unable to imort any audio with the clips...
I've tried exporting it as a qt movie using qt player, but still no audio...
Any ideas?

If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

I'm trying to import mpg movies in Imovie, but it doesn't accept this format. I also tried to convert it to a mp4 file, but they are low res and I need high res (tv use).

MPEG Streamclip (free) will convert MPG (multiplexed MPEG-1) files. As to resolution, you can re-scale the files during the conversion process but it merely increases the conversion time without improving quality. iMovie "08 automatically re-scales project files for display/export.

No Sound for Videos in iTunes 10.6 - Help!

All of a sudden, in iTunes for Windows, whenever I play videos, I get no sound/audio. The video plays fine, but no sound.
Previously, everything played fine in iTunes, video and audio.
Here is what I am using:
iTunes 10.6 for Windows 64-bit
Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Quicktime 7.7.1
What is strange, is that audio files (songs and audio podcasts) play fine in iTunes. But when I switch to ANY video file (music video, movie or video podcast) the video portion plays fine, but no audio.
I've tried playing the same videos in Quicktime (standalone), and all is well.
I'm also able to play the same video files in Windows Media Player with no issues.
In addition, all of the videos have great sound in my iPod, iPhone, and iPad.
The problem is solely with playback within the iTunes Program.
Any thoughts on what settings I should check, or what other tips I should try?

I have the same problem exactly.
Everything worked and I had sound while playing movies on the Itunes player and on the phone and suddenly it stopped.
Now I can only play the video but with no audio and on the phone is the same.
I have already re installed itunes and quik time and still it doesn't help.
It making me go crazy.
I do have sound while playing songs or videos from the internet, but not a downloaded videos or videos from my PC.
Could you help me with it???
