Sound from speakers & headphones is monaural NOT stereo HP Pavilion TS 15 Notebook PC Win 8.1

My HP Pavilion TS 15 Notebook PC  is only 2 weeks old I found out soon after I got it that any test I do of the left and right speakers or headphones is not stereo.   When I click on the left speaker I hear the sound in the center and when I click on the right speaker I hear the sound in the center.  I have tried a test from the internet same results.   However, if I connect a bluetooth audio device then when I click on the left speak I hear the sound on the left only and when I click on the right speaker I hear the sound in the in the right only.  Also when I boot the computer with Ubuntu 13.10 there is stereo distinct sounds from either the left or right when I run the left right test.
At first and before I installed Ubuntu HP was sure it was a hardware problem and sent a tech out to install a circuit board which the headphone plug was on, thinking the jack was defective and mixing the left and right channels.   That didn't fix it.  I went to the Realtek website and ran their program which removed all traces of the sound driver and installed the newest one they had, didn't help.    Hp log into my computer and cruised around but found nothing wrong.   I have played with every sound setting there is, no change.   The final solution they suggest is to reinstall Windblows 8.1.  I really don't want to do this as I just did it to transfer from my win 7 notebook to this one using windows easy transfer.   FYI this computer is one HP sent me to replace the previous G6 Win 7 notebook which had unresolvable problems, worse than that this is the 3rd computer HP has send me to replace previous ones which each had their own set of unresolvable problems.  So I haven't had very good luck with HP computers!
Anyway I am left with maybe a couple possibilities.   1. Reload windblows, I cannot use easy transfer because it no longer works on win 8.1 (maybe file history will work though I'm not sure)   2. Try windows refresh which won't remove as much of what I have installed.   3. Maybe someone has experienced a similar problem and can share here.
Any help is appreciated.
Michael
UPDATE:
HP wanted me to do a clean reinstallation of Win 8.1, sent me the disks to do it, but the disks were defective and wouldn't go on to the second disk.   I used the Disks I had made from the computer they worked and the reinstallation was completed.   That didn't resolve the problem!   They decided to send me a replacement computer.
The new computer is a  HP ENVY TS 15 Notebook PC with win 8.1 updated.   Same problem except the speakers seem to be in stereo but the headphone jack is still mono.   I chatted with HP last evening and was told this is a "Known problem and the fault of Windows 8.1"    Can someone tell me if this is true?    I have doubts but really want to know.
Michael

Hp replaced this computer for me due to this problem, however, the Envy (dumb name) they sent me to replace it had the same problem.   I did fine a solution and here is the web address http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-PC-Sound-and-Audio/envy-17-headphones-in-mono-not-stereo/td-p/...
Read down a few posts for the solution by making changes to the registry.   But, my problem and the solution was with a win 8.1 computer and I do not know it it applies to Win 7.  Unless, you have the same sound card and driver, which I doubt.  If you haven't removed the sound card driver and reinstalled it with the one on the HP website do try that.
Good luck.

  • Audigy 2 zs - moved pc from one room to another and now no sound from speakers (headphones

    As the title says,
I just completed moving my pc from one room to another. Low and behold I get no sound from speakers (just some stereo speakers with powered sub). I do get audio out of the headphones (fully disconnect headphones from front panel when attempting to get sound from speakers). I know this probably points to a faulty speaker setup but that's pretty straight forward and looks to be fine.
Anyone encounter this problem before or have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Mr. Jefferson, Thanks for the quick response!
A mystery!  Usually, it's easiest to have FiOS patched into your home's cable TV wiring, so I'm curious why you don't have a coax router that provides you with the ethernet (internet) jacks.  Some questions:
Do you watch TV from some other source (like satellite or cable TV) but are using FiOS only for Internet?
I have both fios tv and internet
You said 2 cables are going from your router to a box in the wall.  What are the 2 ports labeled on the router?
One of them is just the main "internet" port I guess you could say while the other is just one of the ports labeled 1-4 (plugged into #2 I believe)
Is there any labeling on the jacks on the wall box?  On the other box in your room?
On the wall box in this room theres labeling on the jacks on the wall box that says IN and OUT (in marker), while in my room there's the same box but with only ONE, unlabeled jack (I think there's supposed to be another jack but it seems to be closed/sealed off)
Do you know where the Internet jacks connect to? Like a patch panel or box somewhere in your garage or near where your FiOS/cable tv/phone service is?  Somewhere these cables have to terminate.
I believe they somehow connect to this box in my garage (did some research and I believe it's called the ONT? and there's another box below it which I believe is the battery)
    Hope this info helps!

  • Plug in Cd or Ipod; no sound from speakers/headphone. Internal sound works.

    Hello Folks ---
I plugged in my Ipod, then a CD player, into the mic jack (audio input) on my Mac Mini but I can't get the audio to play out of the speakers or headphone jack. I can see that the mic is definitely picking up a signal.
I have a mac mini (solo intel) 10.4 OSX. I have no audio output when attaching an external input source like a CD player or ipod to the input jack on my Mac Mini. Audio output from ITunes or music movies clips in IPhoto works fine. I have checked the cables and connections. I have checked the "sound" location in System Preferences to make sure the "built in output" source is selected. The input volume display shows that the audio input is being registered. I have checked "system profiler" in the Utilities folder in Applications to make sure the "built in output" AKA headphone outlet is recognized.

I have the "Soundflower" App. installed but turned off.

Does anyone have an idea as to why the audio output from the internal sources like ITunes and IPhoto music clips work but the audio output from an external input source like my Ipod or CD player does not? Is there some software or a driver required for audio output from an external source that is not required for audio output from an internal source? Something that could have been deleted from my OSX? Any info appreciated --- Jeremy1

Hi Again -- I just did the "safe reboot" and the repair permissions in the HD. Unfortunately the audio/MIDI box did not cooperate. Audio output is still unsupported. HOWEVER, something interesting takes place in that A/Midi box. Under the "system settings" w/default input there is the "Properties For:" heading with the box for selecting "built in input" or output. If I change that selection from "built-in input" to built-in output the MIDI box now says that the "audio INPUT" is not supported. i.e. Properties For: with Built-in input = output not supported, Properties For: with Built-in output = Input not supported. The plot thickens.
I wonder if something has gone missing from the Finder-Library-Audio folder. Of the folders (Apple loops, Apple Loops Index, Plug-ins, Sounds, MIDI configurations, only the MIDI Configurations folder has anything in them. In that folder the only thing is a doc. labeled Default.mcfg. Nothing in the Finder-Library-Sounds folder either. Should there be more stuff in those folders?
I appreciate your help on this. I have googled whatever I can think of relating to this problem. A few others have experienced similar things but there were no solutions that worked for everybody. Most solutions were related to the settings in the audio/MIDI pane or Sound preferences panel. That "Properties for:" switch around means something. --- Jeremy

  • [SOLVED] No sound from speakers, headphones work (laptop, ALSA)

Sorry about another "No sound"-thread . So, the headphones work just fine, I can play music or Youtube-videos or whatever but the speakers on my laptop stay mute no matter what I do. I even tested the speakers with a Ubuntu CD to check if I've broken them somehow.
I've been having this odd problem for a week or so, I don't know since I usually use the headphones on my laptop anyway.

Could it be a driver issue? I just need some cryptic parameter to some module, right?
I've been playing around with alsamixer to fix this problem, maybe I've just messed things up a bit more? I really don't know much about ALSA, so the answer might just be obvious to some.

  • No sound from speakers/headphones win 8.1

I have no sound after upgrading to Win 8.1 on Pavilion P6-2304a desktop, I have downloaded the HP driver update sp63935.exe, should this update the driver for both the Audio Inputs and Outputs device and the Sound Video and Games Controller device?
Mine has not updated the Audio Inputs and Outputs device, the driver version is still showing as 6.3.9600.16384, should the upgrade change this to 6.10.6482.0?

I understand that after updating your system to Windows 8.1 you have no audio. After reading you post I believe that the drivers that you had prior to the Windows 8.1 update are stuck and you new drivers are not able to replace them. I would recommend that you follow the steps I have set out below:
Step 1. At the Tiles Menu type Device Manager
Step 2. Click on Device Manager
Step 3. Click on Sound, video and game controllers
Step 4. Right-click on the audio driver that is there
Step 5. When prompted delete the driver (you may have to check a box look for it)
Step 6. Download and install the IDT High Definition Audio Driver

  • No sound from speakers or headphones on my hp pavilion dv6-6c50us

no sound from speakers or headphones on my hp pavilion dv6-6c50us.  Speakers are not muted and volume is up.  May have happened after a system update

    Hi,
    Try the following.
Download the relevant IDT Audio installer on the links below and save it to your Downloads folder.
IDT Audio Installer - Windows 7.
IDT Audio Installer - Windows 8.
When done, open windows Control Panel, open Device Manager and open up Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the IDT device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall.
When complete, shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery.  Hold  down the Power button for 30 seconds.  Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f5 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let Windows fully load - it will automatically load an audio driver, but just let this complete.  Then open your Downloads folder, right click on the IDT installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select Playback Devices.  Left click 'Speakers and Headphones' once to highlight it and then click the Set Default button - check if you now have audio.

  • Suddenly no sound from speakers and only from headphones

    Hello,
    I have a HP 8440p VQ664ET#ABU Elitebook laptop running Windows7 64bit pro.
Since today I'm experiencing the following problem:
    1) no sound is heard through speakers when headphones are disconnected.
    2) If I connect the headphones, the sounds are heard correctly through them: this is the expected behavior
I don't think it's a speakers hardware problem because I can make the speakers play sounds for one or two seconds like this: while a sound is being played, such as music file for instance, if I move up and down the headset volume cursor (regardless if headphones are connected or not) I can hear the played sound through the laptop speakers for a few seconds, after which the speakers mute again.
    So to summarize:
    1) Headphones disconnected: no sound from speakers
    2) Headphones connected: sound from headphones
I rebooted, suspended and restored without any luck so far.
I'm under the impression that there might be a problem with the headphone jack: it is like the laptop always thinks that the headphones are connected and therefore cuts the output to the speakers.
    Any clues?
    Thanks
    Sergio

have an HP G62 laptop.  I can no longer receive sound from speakers or from headphone jack.  If I plug speakers into usb - I will get sound.  Any ideas?

I don't think I have anything to offer that you haven't done. In Device Manager, Device status says "working properly" and you've reinstalled this driver.

    Hi @satyakam
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are enjoying your sound  from everything today. I am happy to help.
If you have a sound application installed along with your sound driver, then I would check the settings for the speakers and headphone in that application.
Then I would make your headphone the default device when it is plugged in.
To make headphone as the default device
    1.    Click on Start; Go to Control Panel.
    2.    Click on Sound.
    3.    Switch to Recording.
    4.    Select your microphone/headset as the default device.
    5.    Save the changes by clicking on OK.
Also you can Uninstall and re-install your audio device drivers, to do that:
    1.    Click on Start; in the start search type “devmgmt.msc” without quotes and press Enter.
    2.    Expand Sound, Video and Game controllers.
    3.    Right click on the audio component and then click uninstall.
With the driver uninstalled then download and re-install the driver from:
HP Pavilion g4-1121tx Notebook PC Drivers
Just be sure to select the correct operating system from the drop down, and click next, which will refresh the list of drivers below.
Let me know if that helped at all.

  • Audigy 2 ZS sound from USB headphones but none from speakers

<Audigy 2 ZS sound from USB headphones but none from speakersw Hello everyone. Lately my computer has been acting up a bit (HP xw6200 workstation) and I updated the graphics and sound drivers to fix the issues with crashing. I first tried to update the audio drivers from the Creative support website but when the installation was finished and the computer restarted there was no longer any sound and all of the volume controls stopped working (sliders, buttons, checkboxes, etc. turned gray). I tried a couple more times to uninstall, then reinstall the driver but it still didn't work. Finally I went to the HP support website and downloaded the audio driver from there and installed it. Now the volume controls work again and when I plug in my Logitech USB headset I can hear sound just fine but when they are unplugged and I try to use my desktop speakers there is no sound at all. I played around with the volume controls, made sure the device and output was correct, and plugged the green output cable to the speakers in all of the sockets I could find while playing a song on Windows Media but it still doesn't work. Anybody have an idea of what might be going on and how to fix it's

@? OK another update (sorry I know I'm posting a lot). I downloaded and installed a different driver from the Creative support site and I now finally have sound in my speakers again. BUT the original problem I was having came back. Whenever I play a game (lately it's been Warcraft III) that seems to have more advanced 3D sound (more than, say, a web video on YouTube) the screen will all of a sudden turn some really weird pattern, the sound will stop, and the entire computer freezes; I then have to manually shut down (with the power button), wait a few seconds, then reboot. I thought this was a graphics issue so I downloaded and installed the latest driver for my video card (nVidia Quadro FX) which didn't help. Now I think it might be a sound card issue (or maybe motherboard?) because this problem doesn't happen when I use my USB headphones to play games. Might my sound card be dying or "breaking" somehow?

  • TX2000 no sound from front headphone jacks

Hi everyone, Ive started this because I have a major problem with my pavilion tx2000. it is not outputting any sound from the front headphone jacks, it was working okay on windows 7 64 bit but one good day without any aparent reason it stopped working I mean, I used to plug my headphones and immediatly the laptop speakers shout and I coud hear music from any of the two front headphone jacks but one day I did it and the speaker didnt shout and I couldnt hear anything from the headphones, assuming that the headphones were the problem I plugged another headphones that I knew were working fine with the same result.
I was using windows 7 default drivers then I updated the drivers from the official realtek site (I thnk version R267) with no effect, then I installed linux and plugged the headphones, to my surprise audio were outputting from both, the laptop speakers and the headphones, after some configurations I managed linux to output audio only from the headphones but I have to change it manually if I wanted the laptop speakers to work, I then reinstalled windows 7 64 with the updated driivers from realtek, to my surprise realtek audio manager will pop up a message saying "you just plugged and audio device" BUT ONLY IF I PLUG SOMETHING TO THE MICROPHONE JACK!!!!! otherwise it won´t say anything even if I plug my headphones to any of the both headphone jacks, my assumption is that somehow the headphone jacks lost its sensibility and are not detectng the headphones and as so they wont route the audio signal through them, also Ive read on forums that I could change something in the realtek audio manager as "disable front audio jacks" or something but i can´t see that option anywhere in any of the various versions of drivers I´ve tried on the various OSes Ive tried, Also in some point I did notice a red ligth coming out from the first headphone jack, I assumed it was spidf signal or something.
What im thiking is that this is hardware related, that somehow the jacks lost sensibility and cant detect my headphones, the question here is this: I dont mind routing the audio from the laptop speaker to the headphone jacks manually (I mean with some script or something), but is there any way to do so In windows, In linux I could but in windows I just cant seem too get it to work without windows detecting my headphones automatically, or do I have to change the whole front panel in my laptop, it is offcourse out of warranty and I don´t want to keep spending money on this as this is quite an old machine wich Ive invested way too much.
    THANK YOU ALL IN ADVANCE.
    HP Pavilion TX2000 (tx2032la)
    Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
NO sound from front headphone jacks.
    No hardware changes made.

    Oh and one more thing:
In the Audio tab in Sounds and Audio Devices in Control Panel, it has this option of
    "Use only default devices"
Is it OK to check that?
Does that mean that if I choose Audigy 2 for the sound playback and etc. options, it would "lock" the default as Audigy 2?
Because as I said, I don;t want to go back and forth switching from onboard to Audigy over and over.
I just want Audigy as my sound, and be able to use the headphone jack on the front bevel of my computer.

  • A1000L IdeaPad No Audio Sound from Speakers

Our IdeaPad A1000L was working great for a while, but now it will not produce sound from the speakers.  At first I assumed I somehow had it set to silent even though the volume bar was all the way up.  I reset all my audio settings.  Then I realized the audio works fine from headphones.  I did a full reset on the tablet, and still no sound from speakers -- only from headphones.  I have read a similar thread where it was suggested that this might be caused by damage to the headphone port, but I rarely use headphones, and don't think I'd ever used them before with this device.  Still, I tried jiggling the headphone thing around in there like suggested and it's still not working.  When I look in there with a flashlight, it looks exactly like the inside of the headphone port on our other IdeaPad.  Is there anything else I can check/try before taking it in for service?

    Hello rkrohatgi,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing and the troubleshooting steps you have already taken.  It sounds like you are seeing a screen similar to this when trying to adjust the volume:
I recommend the following steps for an issue like this (you can skip any of the steps you have already taken):
Verify that the volume is set to a level you would normally be able to hear.
Ensure that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack or the dock connector.
If the iPhone is in a protective case, make sure that the speaker port isn't blocked by the case.
Make sure that the speaker and dock port aren't clogged with debris. If necessary, clean it with a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush. Carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If an audio issue occurs when using a specific application, try testing other applications to see if the issue persists.
If the iPhone is paired with a Bluetooth headset or car kit:
    Try turning off Bluetooth.
If you experience difficulties with the Bluetooth feature, followthese troubleshooting steps.
    Restart the iPhone.
If restarting doesn't fix the issue, ensure that your iPhone is updated to the latest version of iOS.
If the issue is not resolved after restoring the iPhone software, please contact Apple Support.
