Sound gone in right side

Hello,
I have a 2GB iPod nano (Second Generation).
About 1 month ago i lost the sound in the right side. If i plug my headphones in there is only sound in the left side - though with alot of noise. It just happend and i don't know why.
I've tried everything i could think off. I've recharged it, let the battery run out of power, reseted it via the Ipod and in Itunes. I've tried with 5 headphones - same result.
The ipod is app. 6 month old.
Any suggestions?
Regards Felix E. Drud
EDIT:
By the way i've also tried to change the sync settings (Automatic music sync or letting me manage the music myself).

When i try to fill in the depot request it fails.
http://depot.info.apple.com/ipod/
When i choose location and i've entered my SN it directs me to the agreement then i want to push:
"I have read and understand, and agree to, the Repair Terms and Conditions."
When i do that it's says there is a script error..
Tried it with 3 browsers (IE, Firefox and Opera)

  • Only getting sound out the right side speaker

Just this morning, I realised that I am only getting sound out the right side (built-in) speaker on my iMac 24 inch.
Any ideas as to why/how this is happening. It was working fine last night.
Do I have to take it in for repair??

thanks- yes that was the answer!
god knows how i altered the setting. must have been a keyboard short-cut and i did it by mistake...!

  • Trouble-shooting no sound through the right side of Apple earphones with remote...

Hope this story of trouble-shooting this problem helps someone in the future.
For some strange reason, when I listened to a podcast using the Music app through the Apple earphones with remote on my iPhone 4, the right side has no sound.  However, when I pull the earphone plug out one notch, I get sound from both sides, but the remote controls no longer work.  At that point, I was sure I had a hardware problem, but where it lay-- earphones or iPhone 4, I didn't know.
    1.  For my first step, I tried the earphones with another iPhone 4, and got the exact same results.  That convinced me that it was a problem with the earphones, but then I tried them on our iPad and they worked fine!
    2.  That ruled out the earphones and got me wondering if both iPhone 4's earphone jacks were flakey or misbehaving.  I had read about the old fuzz in the jack problem, so I used an air blower to clean it out, but it made no difference.  I still figured that maybe both jacks were stressed in some way, although two of them?
    3.  Then I read that some people found different apps worked--and even specifically that running Skype could solve things.  That didn't work.  However, it led me to try various streaming apps (e.g., Portal to the Universe, NPR) and everything was fine-- sound from both sides and remote controls fully functional.
At that point, I was convinced there was something odd going on with the Music app.
    4.  Finally, it occurred to me to try other podcasts-- and even other episodes of the particular podcast.  They all worked fine.
So, it ended up being one particular podcast-- and, while I still do not know why, it means that the earphones, the headphone jack, the iPhones are all in fine shape!  Yay!
In any event, the bottom-line is that it's really smart to consider *all* the variables that could be affecting the situation--especially the most obvious ones that you wouldn't even think about it.  As it turned out, in my case, I had tested the very same podcast on both iPhones, so no wonder I got the very same results!

I think you're right-- however, I always thought that mono recordings played through both ears--always worked that way on my old stereo system!
This podcast does that, too, but only if one pulls the plug out a bit!  That's what's confusing to me.  Why does it change from both ears to only one ear depending on far the plug is pushed in?  (And especially as it behaves opposite what one would expect-- both ears when not plugged in all the way-- only 1 when fully embedded!)

  • Subtle knocking sound coming from right side of MacBook

Since a few weeks my MacBook makes a very subtle but hearable knocking noise coming in irregular intervals from the right side (I put my ear on the MacBopk and waited). Coincidentally I did two things around the time the noise started: I bought a new hard drive (Western Digital Scorpio, 2.5", 8MB Cache, 250GB) and installed Leopard. Since the sound definitely comes from the right side it can't be hard drive related. According to Disk Utility the hard drive seems to be okay too.
Since the only component with moving parts is the optical drive I suspect that this might be the source of the noise. The problem is, that it's not reproducable and only occours irregularly. Plus every disk I insert plays fine (there was one incident with a DVD of "Lost" which went to pause every minute or so without pressing any button though).
    Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thanks for your answer, impulse_telecom. Unfortunately I really can't tell these operations apart (especially since this noise comes and goes without any special action ...) so I don't really know what the drive is doing when it's making the noise. The (relatively) good news is that it's been making this noise for about a month now and I haven't noticed any data loss or read/write errors. But it could also be that since my hard drive is 250GB it might take a while for these errors to pop up. Since Leopard my boot caches had to be updated twice (never saw that under Tiger) when rebooting and I don't really know if that's a good thing and/or related to this.
I'll try and record the noise today and post it.
(I wanted to mark your comment as helpful too but there seems to be a limit per thread/day ... sorry).

  • Ability to edit options gone from right side under histogram

What do I do?  Every edit option is now gone between the histogram and tone curve.  How do I get the photo editing options back?

So sorry, but I am using a Mac with no right click?  Also what is the title bar?  I am so lost.  Still need help
There is a Right Click on Mac. Most all Apple mice, and every other brand of mice, have a right mouse button, even the Apple Magic mouse that has no buttons. If for some reason you are using a One Button mouse then you hold down the Command key (or the Option/Alt) and that give you a right click.
If you are using the Track Pad on a Mac notebook same applies with the key hold down and in the Preferences you can assign a Right Click to the lower right hand side of the Track Pad.

  • Recording Playback Only In Right Side Of Speakers

I Recently Got Adobe Audition 3 And I Am A Newbie, Basically I Connected My Sound Card To It Which Has The Mic Connected To It. I Was Able To Record But The Main Problem Was When I Played Back What I Have Recorded I Can Only Hear Sound From The Right Side Speaker. I Dont Really Know What Is Happening, As I Used Cubase Before And It Recorded Okay And Played Back Okay... Please If Anyone Can Help Pls Help!!!

You only have one microphone so you can't record it in stereo. You need to record it as a mono. To select mono input go to the left of the track where you have the input selection field, that is like an arrow pointing to the left, you will see a list of all the inputs from the Fastrack, first stereo pairs then single mono inputs. You need to click and select [01M] Line In 1 Fasttrack not [01S].

  • INTERNAL MIC. RIGHT-SIDE ONLY?

I-Chat without camera or additional equipment, internal microphone audio comes out of the right-side built-in speaker only.
    Checked PREF/SOUND/BALANCE ... center position.
Everything else works, I-TUNES, TIME ANNOUNCEMENT, DVD/CD'S.
Is the Internal Mic. STEREO? Thanks.

Hey thanks for the reply , Ralph!
We have been still getting overr the shock of the DISK UTILITY REPAIRS PERMISSIONS problem of a few weeks ago.
My family and I had not used ichat for a while, and my sister noticed , one, that we did not have to adjust downward the input and output volumes of PREF/SOUND in order not to contend with feedback, as we had done before, when we first had experimented with ichat for the first time, and two, she then brought to my attention, that when we adjusted the "balance" from center to left, no sound at all was heard with ichat. Moving the fader back to center, or all the way to right, was sound but only right side.????
...they didn't have download something again that needs repair, did they?

  • My new MacBook pro 15'' is making a noise from the right side. What could the problem be?

    Hi
My New MacBook pro 15'' 2011 is making a sound from the right side of it. It sounds like it is the HDD that is making the sound. How can i fix it?

Return it or take it in for service.    It may be you got a drive that was a lemon.

  • MENU BAR ITEMS ON RIGHT SIDE ARE GONE!!!

I am using 10.2.8 on my iBook. All the menu bar items on the right side (audio, date and time, internet connect, airport) are suddenly GONE and there is nothing I can do to get them back. Clicking show battery status in the menu bar does not work. Ditto with date and time in menu bar and show PPPoE status in menu bar. Show volume in menu bar cannot be checked!!! I called Apple Care and they recommend an archive install of system folder and then reinstalling all my other programs. That sounds extemem and I'd like to avoid it if possible. Please help! Thank you very much!

Hey guys I've got the same problem. Booted machine up in the morning - no right side menu bar items. Last night I was erasing some language files from various apple apps (mostly iLife stuff, would 'get info' on the app, click on languages and then remove everything but english - usually reduced the size of those applications by a quarter to a half). Unfortunately I wanted to see what sum result of saved disk space I'd have so I emptied the trash can (seemingly too soon!) and I don't know how to fix whatever went wrong. Help!
    thanks,
    Alex

I have a problem with the headset of my ipod nano 4th gen. the right side don't have a sound. It comes in and out.  what do I need to do.. I am using the original headset eversince. I tool it to a Apple Mac Cennter and Taked with a Service Center Rep. And he told me that they can't do anything because they don't repair the ipod they didn;t even look at it. I was told instead to buy a new one. I was very disappointed.. This is already my 5th ipod though i am planning to buy a new one.. I still want it fixed so I can give it to my little sister

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

I now have the pallete on the right side of my screen. But, I am unable to change the color of the brush. I move the eye dropper over red and click on it. A panel comes saying 'Pure Red', I click ok but the brush color does not change.

  • The website is not centered in the middle of my screen, right side is gone and left side is white. Only in safetymode the screen is centered in the middle

Websites are dislayed in the middle of the screen. Half the website is gone on the right side. on the left side it is white. Only when i startup in safetymode the websites are displayed in the center of the screen

When going to a website the picture was small - tried changing the Zoom size , tried Zoom Reset - the text did change size but the layout distorts - found under View - Zoom - Zoom Text Only was checked --- Removed this check mark and the website returned to normal size and Zoom worked normally again. I am 99.9999% sure I did NOT check this myself and there is no one else on the computer to cause it. Maybe this will help.

  • Sound shifts to the right side of IPod

Greetings. I'd like to know if anyone has run into this problem with their IPod:
While I am listening to music, a podcast or watching a video on my Video 60GB Ipod, quite to often now the balance of sound will move to the right side. Sometimes the sound is totally in the right ear only, sometimes I get partial sound in the left...but it is not balanced.
I am using Windows: version 1.2.1, Model MA003LL of the ipod.
If I sync my Ipod to Itunes then the problem will correct. Or just recently at the beach I let the IPod sit untouched for 15 minutes and when I went back to it the balance was normal.
I have tried switching earbuds, but the problem remains the same. This feels like a bug, not a hardware issue. Am I wrong? Is this a known bug with version 1.2.1? Should I take this back to the Apple store?
PC at the moment; ready to become a switcher   Windows XP Pro

It's a strange problem. When it happens, either the balance of sounds suddenly shifts all the way to the right side
or it sometimes leaves a fraction of sound in the left side and most of the sound to the right, but the vocals will not be balanced and will remain to the right.
I spoke to a Mac Genius and he has me performing a restore to the IPod with ITunes. So far (three days) this problem has not occured. Right now it appears to be a software problem (not a bug in 1.2.1) and not hardware.

First, try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again. You will not lose data by resetting.
If this does not help, set it up as new device, explained here:
How to erase your iOS device and then set it up as a new device or restore it from backups
If still no luck, get it checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or contact Apple Support to get it serviced:
