Sound Headphones work in commandline test, not with programs

So I have a strange question. I've seen a bunch of posts about headphones and speakers playing together, but i have a different issue. My speakers work, and I can't get headphones to work. so I did as the wiki said and installed asoundconf and everything. But youtube will still play out of speakers. I use the aplay ~ thing from the wiki and it plays out of my headphones. So the headphones work, but why is it that they don't play sound normally? Alsamixer can mute the speakers, but it doesn't switch to headphones. If my problem were both would work, all the posts about simultaneous headphone/speakers would help. Sadly, my issue is different (though i imagine, easier to solve).

lol. i was saying that in the wiki, it says to use aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav and it will play that sound. That sound plays through my headphones, which means that they work. My question would be if they work, why doesn't anything else use the headphones, they aren't muted or anything?

Ipad 3 speaker no sound, headphones work fine

iPad 3rd Gen with iOS 7.1 speaker sound stopped working today. The headphone socket works fine as does the sound on Apple TV. Just the iPad speakers not working (music, notifications etc all silent).

1. If you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
2. Reset all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all settings. No data will be lost but you will have to enter all of the device settings again.
3. If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the control center if you are running iOS 7. Swipe up from the bottom of the screen to get to control center . Tap on the bell icon and system sounds will return.
If you are running iOS 5 or iOS 6, the system sound control is in the task bar at the bottom. Double tap the home button and swipe all the way to the right in the task bar to get to the speaker icon on the left side. Tap on that and the sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock can be accessed in the same manner as described above.

4. If you still have no sound, try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol.

Audigy 2 ZS - Headphones work, Digital Out does not

Just install an Audigy 2 ZS. Bought a miniplug-RCA plug adaptor to connect it to my digital coax cable into my Onkyo receiver. Headphones show that sound it working. Onkyo shows no PCM signal received. I know it works because my last computer used the same amp and same cable. Is there something in the software I'm doing wrong? I'm tried switching the frequency rate, the digital out only, 2 speaker and 4 speaker settings. What am I doing wrong?

One thing to consider is that the digital out on the back of the Audigy 2 ZS is not an actual SPDIF out. It uses the DIN interface which is similar in form, but has a different rating on the voltage of the connection. Most receivers will still work with it, but some will not. This is most likely why it is not showing PCM on the receiver. If you have the platinum dri've, there is a true SPDIF on it but we cannot guarantee that it will work with a receiver using the DIN on the Audigy 2 ZS.

Isight works...just not with AIM

My isight (MBP) works, just not with AIM. This problem just recently started happening. I do not even see the Camera icon on my buddy list.
When I restart in safe mode, I know longer have the problem. But when I start my comp up with a regular boot the problem reappears.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

iChat works better in both iChat 3 (Tiger) and iChat 4 (Leopard) if the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming Settings are set to 1.5Mbps and Not Automatic.
In Tiger iChat 3 reads the Automatic Setting as a Zero.
In Leopard this setting is now read as only 384k which will allow you to Video chat and is also the lowest Spec setting Apple states a 3 and 4 way chat can happen but will cap what Bandwidth/Connection speed you have.
If we are talking form iChat TO AIM (6.5 or above) then you should read this doc by AIM on their Real Time Protocol (read th paragraph under the pics.)

E71 wifi connection works in browser, but not with...

I need help badly.
On my Nokia E71 I can easily connect to a wireless network and browse the web from the browser. But when I try to read my Gmail from the mail client on the phone I get an error message "Unable to connect to e-mail server". The settings are correct since if I switch to GPRS/3G connection, then the client connects to the server and downloads the messages. This is weird. The same is for VoIP and Fring and Nimbuzz, they all work with GPRS/3G but they don't when I choose wi-fi.
What's more weird is that other people in the building use their person handhelds for the above purposes. The IT guy administering the network assures me no ports are blocked and that's obvious, since people use Skype and check their emails through the same wi-fi spots in the building. I fee l am missing something easy to solve, but I can't get through. Please help!

Thank you for your reply. The problem is not with wifi connectivity option but inability to connect to wifi. For instance, if I run Nimbuzz, the settings are set to request from me each time I start it which connection to use - gprs or wifi. I choose GPRS it works alright, I choose wifi it does not connect and gives me "socket connection failed!" error. I get the same error in other wifi networks, so this is not about one specific wireless network. The same is with other applications, when I choose wifi connection it simply does not connect, like to gmail via nokia email client, I get a "unable to connect to e-mail server" error, whereas if I connect with GPRS, it works fine. And one more important, I can connect to all wifi's and browse the web via browser. But it's just the applications that won't connect and I was thinking if there was a setting in my E71 that need to be adjusted to allow applications wifi connections.

I am not sure...but have you heard that NS 6/Mozilla are use based on standards. So they dod not support some of the proprietary JS/CSS/Misc functionality of IE or NS 4.0+ versions. You can read more about the JavaScript differences on Netscape's NS6 evangism site. Maybe you are missing something. I think I remember reading something about getElementByID/Name ...

LG Ally: Sound only works (media and calls namely) with headphones. (Solution)

I recently had a problem with my phone that was driving me crazy for the past few days.
The problem in particular was:
When i would answer phone calls, i would hear nothing on the other side of the call. In addition i was unable to watch Youtube videos and listen to the sound on the phone's speakers. Even more peculiar was that i would hear my ringtones and notification sounds, which i could also listen to when playing the sounds for fun.
Now it seems like its a fairly common problem for those who have the same kind of phone that i do, so i dabbled in the number of solutions:
- restarting my phone
-turning my phone off and taking out the battery for 30 seconds (which i did, but left the battery out for much longer than specified)
-restored factory settings (which erased a lot of apps and what not in the process)
Note that im only stating all this just to clear up what the problem was and what i tried to do to fix it. and i actually found the solution on this site:

If you don't care to skim through the posts the solution is this:
The Headphone Jack is (most likely) dirty/dusty/etc. The cleaning formula Pro Gold/De-oxit is recommended, but i found that thinning out a Q-tip so that it can fit in to the jack, then spinning it around inside helps just as well. There was a noticable amount of dirt, and once removed i tried the music app on my phone without headphones only to have it play music again. (Also: I blew into the headphone jack as well. I figured it might have been dirty and from someone who used to play the NES, this is a very common practice.)
Anyway i hope this helps out anyone with this problem in the future. So try to find this before you return your phone and/or restore factory settings.

Good post! I had a problem similar to this a while back with my Eris where the headphone icon would stay in the notification bar. I had to use basically the same solution (I think I used a toothpick, though a Q-Tip is probably safer). I do find it funny that you blew into the hole, as I did the same thing, also being a former NES player. Why did that always work?!?

Java sound app works on Mac but not on Windows

I am working on a program that needs to play a sound Clip and it doesn't work on XP but it does on OS/X.
I've reduced the problem to this simple test program. On my PC, the sound I hear on the speakers is just a little burst of noise, whereas it's fine on my Mac. I used one of XP's system wav files, and verified that it does play normally on the PC via other means (iTunes, etc.). I'm using the latest JDK/JRE everywhere. Here's the sample code. Anything obviously wrong here?

Solved my own problem: adding a Thread.sleep(1000); after starting the Clip worked. Looks like the app was terminating before the sound could finish playing. Obviously something is different between the way the Mac and XP JRE handles the sound thread with respect to the rest of the app.

IPhone 4 - SOME OF THE SOUND OPTIONS WORK AND SOME DO NOT?????S...

I have a iPhone 4- N WITH SOUND ISSUES
Some of the sound option are not working. Like the speaker phone button, phone will only light up will not ring at all.
Keystroke sound is not working as well, bit when I plug earphones sound work with those and does work when using it like regular phone. DOSE ANYONE HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THE CAUSE OR THE FIX ON THE PROBLEM???? PLEASE HELP?????

I'm sorry to hear of the sound issues you are experiencing with your iPhone. I understand how frustrating it can be and will be more then happy to help get this resolved as soon as possible. To better assist you I need to ask a few questions.
How long have you had this issue? Has there been any physical damage to the phone? Is the issue intermittent? What troubleshooting steps have you taken?
What iOS do you have running on your phone? Installing the latest version of iOS 5 may resolve the issue. You can determine which version of software is installed on your iPhone by navigating to the About screen or by connecting the device to your computer and using iTunes.
1. Press the Home button to return to the Home Screen.
2. Select Settings > General > About.
3. The software version of your device will be listed on this screen.
If you are not running iOS 5, iTunes can update your device to the latest available iOS software. An update doesn't affect your user content or settings. iTunes creates a backup of your iOS device and then performs the update. Follow these steps to update your device:
1. Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes before attempting to update.
2. Connect your iOS device to your computer.
3. Select your iOS device when it appears in iTunes under Devices.
4. Select the Summary tab.
5. Click "Check for Update"
If you continue to experience issues with the sound on your device after updating the software, please let us know so we can further troubleshoot.

Arch thinks sound is working, but it's not (Guest in KVM / QEMU)

I have an Archlinux virtual machine running the very latest Arch-goodness.
It's running inside Kvm-Qemu on a Ubuntu system (don't hate me plz!! )
I have setup the sound to emulate an Intel AC97:

And when I load the Arch system and do a lsmod, it has loaded all the correct modules all by it's clever self:
The machine starts with every muted (possibly an indication that something is wrong?), but using
alsamixer
I turn everything up.
But when I try something like
aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
I get no sound (and no errors).
I'm at a bit of a loss tbh; I have read and re-read the Alsa guide on your Wiki, but unfortunately it did not resolve the issue.
Would really appreciate some help please guys!

Wi-Fi card will work on OS9 but not with mac OS X

I've been having a lot of problems with my imac until I brought to a repair center last year. They had to replace the motherboard and a few other compenents to get it working. Anyway, the end result would be that the wi-fi card wouldn't work. I can detect it and the computer can 'see' it in MAC OS X 'Tiger' but no wi-fi networks are detected. Now what's really strange is that networks are detected when I boot into mac os 9. I've looked for drivers for the airport card but nothing seems to work. Any ideas? One other thing...my internal modem does not work as a fax, it keeps saying modem busy (even though I have an ethernet connection). Please help. Thanks.

Proxy Settings may be set by connection however - that does not imply that all of the services provided by Apple Utilise these connections.

(Confirmed on 3 iPod Touches)
*iPod Touch - Latest Firmware Updates Applied:* Unable to use services like Google Maps, YouTube, Weather. (Confirmed that this connection fails on 2/3 that have been upgraded, one is still pre v2 firmware and connects fine)
Both iPod Touches are configured identically - with a static IP address, differing by one digit.
Same DNS, Same Gateway, Same Proxy IP Address, Same Username/Password.
The issue is not caused by configurations, it is caused by a difference in how authenticate proxy configurations are handled between the firmware supplied with a pre v2 iPod Touch, and the updated v2 firmware.
Perhaps v3 will resolve this issue, but at this time if you have any choice, do not upgrade further iPod Touches to v2 if you require internet access via an authenticated proxy in applications such as Maps, Weather, Mail etc.

My sound only works through the ear phones with some apps....

With some apps (Games and books) I can only get sound on my IPAD 2 though the earphones...this just recently occured. With movies the sound goes through the speakers just fine. Is there some adjustment I can make so I can hear the games without using the ear phones?

Make sure that you haven't got notifications muted (which will affect most games, but not iPod or Videos apps, nor earphones). Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to, notifications can either be muted by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar (the function that the switch isn't performing is on the task bar instead) : double-click the home button to bring up the task bar, slide the bar to the right, and it's the icon far left. Device works using max but not with VI

I am able to control a kepco power supply with comminicating by MAX. But with VI (7.0) that has the same command structure it s not possible..Moreover, i dont get any error message either. Could you have a look the VI attached and make ur comments.

I have localized where there are something strange happening.
I attach 2 VIs one of which works but not other one. The only difference is that the working one writes data to Writing VI via buffer. When I change buffer to string it doesnt? It doesnt any make any sense to me.. What is wrong?

Play & Pause buttons work...but not with each other

V!P and dzedwards were a big help to me yesterday but now
I've come up against something else...
I've got 3 music buttons on a page. The code that I have
plays and pauses each button perfectly. But if I have Button 1
playing and I click on button 2 (without stopping button 1
manually), and button 1 is still playing...both play at the same
time. Which, I understand why it's doing that but I'm not sure how
to fix it.
What do I need to add to the code so as to stop the first one
from playing if I don't manually click it to stop? The first
button's instance is monkey7, the second button's instance is
iBelieve and the third button's instance is Perfection.

Well..not exactly. Crap, how do I explain this? The
pauseButton is where you're applying the stop commands but from
what I can tell, it's not doing anything because the play/pause
button (pauseButton) isn't the problem, it's the button for the
next song.
My problem is when they don't click the play/pause button and
go directly to the next button with the next song.
If it makes it easier to see what I'm talking about, you can

the layout. It takes a couple of seconds for the preloader to
appear.
The arrow button on the right of the songs is the
pauseButton. My problem is, when they don't click that but click
the next button beneath, the button previous to it continues to
