Sound in 5.1 ok in stereo bad

I created a mix (sound) in 5.1 with compressor.
When I play the dvd on a surround system the mix sounds ok.
When playing the same DVD in a computer in stereo, there are dropouts in the sound.
Do I forget something ?

Try adding a stereo mix to your DVD. 5.1 downmixes don't halways sound great. If you look at most commercial DVDs they will have Both stereo and 5.1 mix.

  • Connect to Home Stereo -- bad sound

I connected my iPod to my home stereo via RCA cables. The sound is horrible. I have tried turning down the volume on my iPod and up on the stereo, and that does not work. Then I tried the opposite, and that did not work either.
The sound is very heavy on the bass, and does not change even when I adjust the settings on the iPod's EQ.
Any tips for how to use your iPod on your home stereo?

Thats your problem the phono jack should only be used by a turntable. The phono jack amplifies the input (don't ask me the exact tech details as I don't know) b4 it goes to the amp.
Try a different input and you should be fine

  • Dock used with car cassette stereo bad sound

Here is my problem, i'm using my dock connection at my car. i have it connected with the car charger and the problem i'm having is with the audio out put in the dock. i'm using the cassette as my audio interface to connect to the car stereo but when i connect it to the out put in the dock the sound is distortionated but when i connect it in the iphone out put the sound is fine. it seems to be a problem with the volume some how you can't turn it up or down with docked. please let me know if there is a solution to this.

    Welcome to the forums.
There are all kinds of relatively inexpensive inline ear/headphone volume controls you can buy for the purpose of controlling this, and that's what I would recommend.
Here's one specifically for the iPhone:

  • Sound dropping when iPod connected to stereo - iOS 4.1

Why is the sound dropping when watching videos from the iPod when connected to a TV?
I have a Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K AV receiver with this nice setup (cable and functionality) that lets me watch videos on my TV with the iPod connected to the AVR (USB + composite video cable). The result is not bad, with better video than audio.
HOWEVER after upgrading to iOS 4.1 the sound (not picture) is dropping after various intervals of time (1 - 20 minutes) while plugged into the AVR. When I unplug the connection the video stops and the iPod goes back to the menu. The audio plays normally when restarting the video without the cable and continues to play normally when I plug the AVR cable back into the iPod. On occassions when plugging the AVR's cable into the iPod the sound does not come back, though unpluggin and plugging in again usually does it.
Anyone else have similar issues? I see some issues with apps and battery life under iOS4.1 and a few issues with audio / picture playback:

Have people had similar problems when iPods are connected to AVRs or TVs through composite or component cables? I realize the quality of sound / pictures from the iPod is not superb though it is as good as my sattelite dish. I could just have a computer connected to the AVR via HDMI or similar but well that would mean having a computer just for iTunes.

Thanks for posting this because I too have the Pioneer VSX-1019AH and have just noticed this problem. I rarely listen to my iphone (ipod) through my receiver and this problem never occured before until yesterday.
I am experiencing a sound loss at random times, and it takes restarting the receiver, or disconnecting then reconnecting the iphone cable to get the sound back again, only for it to go off again in a few moments time.
Whilst the sound is off, both the iphone and receiver are continuing to play music because you can see the title of the tracks change on both devices. So where the fault lies is hard to tell but I'd say it's with the ios4.
I don't know whether Apple will provide any support regarding this problem but I do notice the receiver has been endorsed "made for ipod" which means it meets Apple performance standards.

  • Surround Sound Support - 5.1 multi-channel stereo

Does FMLE support surround sound - such as 5.1 6 channel stereo? If not, will it ever?

FMLE supports only mono/stereo channel as of now. If we need this support in FMLE/Flash Player, log a feture request for the same.

  • Need all sound out of both speaker, no stereo

How do i get all the tracks of the audio to come out of BOTH speakers. I want all sounds to come out of both speakers exactly the same. Ideas?

You have recorded your tracks in stereo. Switch them to mono.
To record stereo tracks you would need two input sources (two mic's left and right). If you record from one guitar or one mic that will be mono.

  • Video sound problem (surround plays as incomplete stereo)

I got some music videos from a DVD to my iPod with the help of someone on this forum, but now I have a new problem. On the DVD, there's an option to choose surround or stereo, but the videos automatically ripped/converted in an incomplete stereo, which seems to be playing only two of the five or six surround tracks. I couldn't find a way to change this in either program, but I'm really not very good at this yet. Help!
(in case it's of any relevance, the DVD was Peter Gabriel's PLAY, and I have a 5G 60GB.)

I used DVD Decrypter and Videora, because they're both free and I have no money right now. Is there another free ripper or converter that would work better? Did I just use the wrong [something] in DVDD? Do I absolutely have to buy software to do this right? If so, I'm just outta luck for a few months.
As a Mac user, I know nothing about Videora but can describe the process in MPEG Streamclip which is available for both Mac and Windows platforms. It is free but requires QT MPEG-2 component support which normally would cost about $20 from Apple. Fortunately, there is a free KL Alternative for Windows users described on the Squared 5 web site if you are interested.
What confuses me most is that some of the videos sound fine (Sledgehammer, Big Time) While others are obviously incomplete (Shock the Monkey, Games w/o Frontiers) and sound terrible, mix-wise. Did I do something right for half the videos and do it wrong for the others?
Depends on the application used. Handbrake, for instance, automatically mixes down multichannel audio to two stereo channels. On the other hand, MPEG Streamclip defaults to this option when opened but can be user modified to strip/map optional channels to stereo and, if desired mix the stereo channels to mono as part of the conversion process if desired. You should check to see if Videora includes similar user options which you may have failed to exploit fully.
What should I do, step by step? Or is there a tutorial I can follow?
Am sure there must be detailed tutorials available, but don't know of an specific URLs off hand. If you decide to try the MPEG Streamclip application (still requires the use of DVD Decrypter), can provide specific instructions if/when the program is up and running on your computer. Will also need to know target goals for conversion -- e.g., simple baseline or baseline LC profile requirements, etc.

  • Could i play sound from DVD Player to my stereo?

I have iBook with Airpot Extreme card. I want to buy Express station. Is there is somebody who did try to broadcast sound to express station from something different than iTunes? May it is just impossible?

Before you buy one for this purpose, you must realize that you're liable to be frustrated trying to get the audio to sync with the video. In fact, you'll have to use an app other than Apple's DVD Player in order to get the sync halfway close, and even then you'll likely never get it perfect.
VLC is one possibility. You'll need to use the audio delay option with a negative offset to advance the audio ahead of the video a couple of seconds to compensate for the Airport Express prebuffering delay.

  • Sound bars...good idea or bad idea?

I am looking at purchasing a new HT system, but the Sony sound bars caught my eye. I know they can't fully sound as good as a true 5.1 or 7.1, but I like the idea of not having to run wires. Do they sound good with movies or just TV? Any help is welcomed.

The sound bars produced today are actually amazing. While they might not give you the range of a more expensive set, they are perfect for average home theater use. They use 3D sound technology to bounce off walls, creating artificial surround sound that actually impressive - the sort of technology you would of paid thousands of dollars for a few years ago.
I would not recommend sound bars for mainly music use - they are not designed for that. They are designed for home theaters - and if that is your purpose, and you don't wish to run a more extensive and expensive system, sound bars are great. They are arranged so that the speaking voice is louder and the music softer, which is a major failing of a big theater system which isn't properly set up.
Quick, easy, and simple the use is the advantage of a soundbar.
Limited options for more intense audiophiles is the disadvantage.

  • Bounce DOESN'T sound like Mix Playback, Mid boost, stereo field smaller

Anyone had this one happen yet? Your mix is rockin along, client is happy, you hit bounce and it sounds like someone just threw a comforter over your speakers and cut your low end at 100 during playback?
Freaking out. Never had this happen in years of use. No plugs on Master, bounce Interleaved, AIFF, 48k 24 bit.
    Help!
    Thanks

I've struggled with a similar problem i.e my mix will sound awesome and perfect when I play it back through Logic and my (pretty decent) monitors. I will bounce the mix and say, bring it into WaveBurner. When I play the mix in WaveBurner is sounds a little different. This makes since as the file has to be dummied down a bit to fit on a CD. The real shock comes when I play the song in say, my car. I expect it to sound little different (different speakers) but what I find is the bass is gone...Or way too loud. Or the vocals are completely soft. Or (I work with bagpipers) the pipes will be so loud you can't hear anything else! This drove me nuts and wasted tons of blank CD's and time running back and forth, re-mixing this or that.
After some discussion with other groups it occured to me that maybe it's my audio interface. If you have a cheap AD/DA converter in your interface then your mixes will not be true. I used a Mackie 400F then upgraded to an Apogee Ensemble. The Apogee doesn't sound as good as the Mackie but I think the output is more true to what you hear on the final product.
I don't know if this helps (and I may be completely off about cheap converters!). I wanted to share my experience with a similar problem. -T

  • K8n Neo4 Onobard sound --- Center channel is output on stereo sources

Isn't it odd that  the onbaord drivers send output to the CENTER channel by default, even though the source is 2 channel?  Everything is working, but I'd rather this did not happen.  Anybody else notice this?

This may or may not be relevant.
I, too, have a K8N NEO4-F and found that Win XP didn't jive wel with The NVidia IDE driver that comes with the board, so I just didn't install that driver and my PC works just fine using the standard Windows driver.
Same experince here with Neo4-Platinum and Nvdia IDE driver.

  • 5.1 sound while in Vista - only Stereo in Game

OS: Windows Vista Ultimate 32Card: Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeGamer Fatalty Professional SeriesDriver: Latest CL DriverGame: America's Army 2.8. uses OpenAL sound 5.1 sound works fine while in Vista, but when I play game it's only in stereo. If I tab out of the game and back to Vista, I can play 5. sound, go back to game only stereo. The game plays 5. sound in Windows XP. I have tried with XP Compatibility Mode on and off - no difference. AA is based on UT. Any suggestions?
Message Edited by SoCal65 on 05-0-200709:59 AM

If you haven't already make sure you uncheck "System driver" in the AA in game audio settings. Why they called it that is anyone's guess as what that setting does is determine whether the game uses its own OpenAL (which is 3-4 years old, and who knows how many OpenAL updates behind), or uses the OpenAL that gets installed with your cards drivers (or download and install yourself).
It is too bad the AA devs and PB don't get they're collective thumbs out and allow you to replace the one that comes in the game with the latest like you can in BF2.

  • Sounds like Darth Vader with a bad cold

I don't use Soundtrack Pro much but it's worked fine in the past for me. Today though when I try to record a simple V/O I sound like Darth Vader with a very bad cold after a hard night of drinkin' and smokin'. It's just awful and light years away from what it ought to sound like. I did just upgrade to OS 10.6.6, could that be the issue??

After all that it turns out that STP didn't like the way I had my input set-up. I'm using an M-Audio MobilePre USB interface and had it set to "stereo" and had the channels below (numbers 1-6) set as 1,1 (with the following 3,4,5,6 grayed out). I then reset those channels to 1,2 and while I get great sounding audio it is now only a left signal. How do I set it up so that I can hear both channels in my headphones and also get both a left and right signal for playback?
Thanks for all of your help.

  • Stereo-ac3 sound conflict

Please we need help urgently. We have created a DVD with an AC3 Audio file. But if it is played on a DVD player that is only able to play stereo files the sound of our ACS 3 is very bad. So we have now added a stereo file as well. Is it possible that the DVD communicates with the player it is playing in and asks if the player is able to play dolby digita and then selectes the ACS file. Or if the DVD gets the information from the player that it is only able to play stereo files it selects the stereo file. We believe that it has to do with GPRM and SPRM. But how is it done exactly? So if anybody knows about this problem please help us. Thank you very much and all the best !

I do not believe that there is an SPRM in the spec for "default # of playback channels". There is an SPRM for audio format, but both streams will be AC3 in your case.
I would do two things -
Make your stereo stream the 1st (default) stream, and add a menu to choose the audio format manually.
Experiment with the settings in the surround encode in Compressor. The setting that will have the most effect is the "surround downmix", this is how much the level of the surround channels is attenuated when the surround is downmixed to stereo by the player. Depending on what type of mix you have and what's in the surround speakers, this can make a big difference.
    Hope this helps -

  • Ipod to stereo sound loss

I've been searching a bit for this, but has anyone noticed some serious sound loss when connecting ipod to stereo or television and trying to play music? I've used it for TV and I didn't notice any major loss, but for music (using the standard headphone jack to white and red plug), it *****! If I turn the stereo up full ball it still lacks any punch (on a cd it would deafen me at this level). I want to buy a car stereo with an aux imput, but don't want to if it's not going to be loud. The ipod is new, so just want to know if this is normal?

I have used all of my 4 iPods as the main source for music connected to my living room stereo for years throug a docking station. (Not through the headphone output.)For my stereo i think the "latin" equalizer setting is closest to CD sound, but that varies. The sound is very close to CD sound and I do not lack any punch. I am using the same set up in the car and no problems there either. With the latest docing station the volume on the iPod has to be on full, but it automatically goes to full volume when docking.
By the way, I am using it with to stereos, One Denon and one Bose.
