Sound is dostorted with headphones

Using my headphones with iPhone 4 the sound was completely distorted. The vocals sounded like they were far away and any music sounded like it was under water. I deleted and redownloaded my Pandora App., restarted my phone and had the same problem. I took out my headphones and plugged them into my iPod Touch, experienced the SAME problem. Both sound fine when there are no phones plugged in. I have tried new headphones with both and have the same problem. Did my shelf life just expire on the SAME day with both of these very expensinve Apple products? I swear that Apple puts a chip somewhere in their products to screw customers into having to purchase new ones. They were working perfectly fine and both decided to have te same issue on the same day??????????

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Check also Settings > General > Accessibility > Hearing. Make sure that the sound balance is not set all the way to "R".
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours.

A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

How can I make my projects in GarageBand sound the same when listening with speakers as it sounds when listening with headphones on?

Hi, I'm trying to export a song that I made in Garageband using mutliple tracks and a backing track. It sounds great in the headphones and all the levels are good. But, once I export and listen with my speakers, the levels are different, but sound good once I plug my headphones back in. What you describe has nothing to do with GarageBand.
Every speaker system or headphones have their own characteristics which can be measured and documented with a frequency response diagram. That describes that some speakers/headphones sound more boomy or less "bright" than others, instead of neutral.
There are a ton of other parameters that influence the sound:
Playing too loud (for the amp or speakers) can introduce distortion that alters the sound even before you recognize it as (nasty) distortion.
The same song sounds different when played back with different levels. This is a trick your ear is playing on you. It is documented in the Fletcher Munson curves.
The acoustic plays a major role. With headphones, you eliminate the acoustic environment compared to your speaker that reacts to your room and any room resonance.
The placement of your speakers. Putting them against the wall gives you a 3dB boost in the lower frequency range (depending on the room dimensions). Putting them in the corner adds another 3dB. Placing one speaker in a corner and the other one not is even worth.
The list goes on ...
People spend their money on all kinds of plugins and often forget that the convertes like microphone (sound comes in) and speakers (sound comes out) are the most important components (besides your ears). Investing in good speakers is a good start. When buying headphones, make sure they are real headphones and not fashion accessories like Beats.

No sound - apart from with headphones (when it works as normal)

Needing help - iphone 3gs has suddenly stopped sounds unless the headphones are attached.
Also all ringtones are no longer showing up on phone but are classed as being synced across from itunes.
I've tried cleaning, using a vaccum, turning on/off, resetting on phone, restoring via itunes, putting jack in/out repeatedly - all to no avail.
Feeling all that is left is treatment with a ball pein hammer.
Any suggestions on solving this would be gratefully received,

I have the same issue. Phone rings with calls and alarm works but no sounds with tweets, messages...etc
Tried sleep-wake with Home button reset.. Tried full restore from back up. Mute slider makes no difference.
When in settings/ sounds and I try to select alert sounds I can feel the Vibrate with each selection but no sounds.
Any ideas?

talking on iphone 5, 7.1.1 version. during conversation the sound cut off. the phone will not ring nor will it play music unless headphones are now pluged in.

Try this - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

IPad Sound works only with Headphone.

My Ipad 3 sound is gone and it is only audible via headphone. I have reset the settings once but of no use.
Also I rebooted the iPad couple of times by holding down the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears, but this was also of no use.
Any help in this regard full be highly appreciated.

1. Double-click the Home button and swipe the Task Bar (at bottom) to the right. Check volume and mute settings.
2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down for about 10 seconds until you see the Apple Logo
Note: Try the reset a few more times if necessary

My ipod NANO 7th Generation - sound cuts out with headphones. Works fine when doccked. I've tried different headphones.

Hi, try changing your headphones, if they are all healthy(test them on another device; doesn't matter on what) probably it would be your headphone jack installed in the ipod.
If you couldn't do anything for it, go to the most near physical Apple Store, and ask for help from them.

HT1349 I have lost sound. It's ok with headphones and the ring tone works but otherwise no sound. I've restarted, checked the mute lock and bottom of page when right swiped etc and all no good. Any ideas

can you see the speaker icon and the changing of the volume bar if you press your volume buttons?
Try this with the headphones plugged in and then unplug them and see if the volume for the speaker is displayed.
Is your volume limit set to max?
Set a volume limit for music and videos: Choose Music > Volume Limit and drag the slider to adjust the maximum volume

Can anybody fix my problem. I bought iPad 1 year 8 days back. My iPad external speaker has stopped working.however it works well with headphone. I have tried all methods like holding home and sleep button for ten seconds,reset to factory setting,all other trial given in differ
ent forum but in vain. Now can anybody tell me what shall I do. Also since it is more than 1 week after expiry of warranty will apple help me to fix the problem.

Even if you max out the memory to 160 MB, it's too small for XP to run properly. Not surprised you can't locate drivers for XP.
You can, however, find the drivers for Windows 2000 (which I prefer to XP anyway). The sound driver is included.
Go to the Canadian download site and look up the Satellite 1710CDS.

Try reset all settings.
Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings. It won't delete any data.
