  • Pci soundcard for mac g3

    Hi,
I have a blue and white Mac G3, my onboard sound in jack has broken and i can no longer record into my mac, i have heard that its possible to use a pci soundcard but i dont know which one as i have searched google but cant find what i need, i dont want an expensive soundcard just a basic good quality soundcard, i am running OS 9.2.
    Many thanks, Andy.

I currently use an M-Audio Audiophile 2492 PCI sound card in my Power Mac G4/400 AGP "Sawtooth." It works well and drivers are still available for this card from the M-Audio website.
I haven't checked eBay lately for a used one, but as another post alluded, a decent Audiophile 2492 might set you back around $50US or so. You do need to make sure that the card is designed to work in the old PCI slots -- some of the older cards were factory modified to work in the PCI-X (or whatever it is called) of the new form-factor Power Mac G5s. Almost all Audiophile cards since the G5 model came out have been made to support that slot architecture. I don't know if the PCI-X is backward compatible with the old PCI standard of the older G3 and G4 Power Mac towers.
If you do find a decent used Audiophile card, pay special attention to the RCA style jacks on it. The grounding sleeve of the jack was held in place within its plastic casing merely by the friction of the metal against the plastic. On my card, the grounding sleeve of one of the jacks consistently comes out of the card when I remove the cable, which can be quite an annoyance. The fix is to simply push the sleeve back into the plastic holder.
Otherwise, it's a great sounding card; much better than anything that Creative Labs every put out for the Macintosh. As long as you have fast enough hard drives (7200 RPM or better), your G3 should have no problem using the full 24-bit 96,000 kHz sampling rate of this card.

  • On-board sound card failing. Will BIOS let me add a sound card into the PCIE slot?

On-board sound card failing, consistently locking everything, (yes, I updated all drivers, codecs) so want to put in new sound card. Will the BIOS let me add a sound card into the PCIE slot? (of course after disabling the ReakTek onboard sound) I don't see an option to choose PCI or PCI-E in the setup screen (F10 at boot) for audio.

  • Sound problems (load_state:1608: No soundcards found)

    Hey there!
I am having troubles with my sound devices. It was running very well until yesterday when I did pacman -Syu. Unfortunatelly I can't remember which packages have been upgrade exactly... :-/
The first hint of a problem is that the alsa daemon is giving me this error message:
    [root /etc/rc.d]# ./alsa start
    :: Restoring ALSA Levels [BUSY]
/usr/sbin/alsactl: load_state:1608: No soundcards found... [FAIL]
    [root /etc/rc.d]#
My soundcard is the SupremeFX II Audio Card which came with the Asus Motherboard Maximus Extreme.
Like the wiki told me the following information might be helpful:
    [root /etc/rc.d]# lsmod|grep '^snd' | column -t
    snd_hda_codec_analog 83184 1
    snd_seq_dummy 3540 0
    snd_seq_oss 36224 0
    snd_seq_midi_event 8592 1 snd_seq_oss
    snd_seq 64640 5 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq_midi_event
    snd_seq_device 8324 3 snd_seq_dummy,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq
    snd_hda_intel 31208 1
    snd_hda_codec 82000 2 snd_hda_codec_analog,snd_hda_intel
    snd_pcm_oss 47328 0
    snd_hwdep 9944 1 snd_hda_codec
    snd_pcm 90808 3 snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss
    snd_timer 25344 2 snd_seq,snd_pcm
    snd_page_alloc 10752 2 snd_hda_intel,snd_pcm
    snd_mixer_oss 20976 2 snd_pcm_oss
    snd 76712 11 snd_hda_codec_analog,snd_seq_oss,snd_seq,snd_seq_device,snd_hda_intel,snd_hda_codec,snd_pcm_oss,snd_hwdep,snd_pcm,snd_timer,snd_mixer_oss
    [root /etc/rc.d]#
To me, this looks ok. Am I right?
Now the next thing, ls -l /dev/snd, which is a bit weird. I did this a few mintues ago and everything seemed to be okay. There were some devices similar to the output here http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Adv … are_loaded. I thought I might give OSS a try and installed it with pacman -S oss. I edited /etc/rc.conf accordingly but it didn't work. So I decided to prefer solving the problems with alsa. I did "pacman -Rs oss" which removed both before installed packages "kernel26-headers-2.6.32.7-1" and  "oss-4.2_2002-2". I changed /etc/rc.conf again back to the state before the oss installation. And now, there is nothing left in /dev/snd:
    [root /home/user]# ls -l /dev/snd
    total 0
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Feb 3 12:05 by-path
    [root /home/user]#
I also can't load the modules manually as described on the wiki page.
    [root@QX9450 /home/mm]# modprobe -v snd-hda-intel
    [root@QX9450 /home/mm]# modprobe -v snd-pcm-oss
    [root@QX9450 /home/mm]# ls -l /dev/snd
    total 0
    drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Feb 3 12:05 by-path
    [root@QX9450 /home/mm]#
What can do now? Perhaps it would already be helpfull to know which packages have been upgrade by pacman -Syu. Is that possible, somehow?
This is really important to me as no sound is a total pain in the ass... Especially as I have nearly no time to play around with these things because I have a lot private stuff going on... so please, help me if you can.
    Thanks a lot!

    Dear yvonney
In any application I can freely choose between ALSA or OSS drivers. I can hear sound in each configuration without having to unload or uninstall neither ALSA nor OSS modules.

  • Can't I Use A Pci Soundcard ???

I have already pasted this message before but I did not got a final answer, so I will try again:
    Apache ASC-200 soundcard + NEO2-865LS motherboard
I had the Apached soundcard acs-200 before the I had the MSI 865NEO2LS and there where no problems (I had another MSI mothoerboard then for pentium 3). Then I bought the MSI 865NEO2LS and pentium 4 and put in the Apache soundcard (after disable the audio of MSI in the BIOS) and I had blue-screen errors (once a day during playing audio files, not all the time). Then I took off the Apached soundcard and enable the audio of MSI in the BIOS and it works OK now. The problem is that I want to use the MIDI port of the Apache soundcard, and now I can not do it. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT????

First of all - have you disabled all the options for your Audio card in the BIOS (I think that the options are 2 but I'm not sure)? Second - have you updated your MB BIOS version (Try using MSI Live Update) and Third - check for new drivers for your sound card. Remove all the drivers for your Sound Card which comes with your MB, shut down and then put your other Sound Card and Install. Let's hope that this will work -

  • Right and Left sound is reversed

As the title says, my right headphone plays left sound, and vice versa.
I looked through some of the pages for relevant info but found none that I could use.
Do anyone of you know how to switch them over. (and no, i have no ability to change the chord from right-socket to left-socket)
    Thanks in Advance
    Tysken

I got the front panel to work correct and not reversed on my sonata.
    I just switched RET_R+FPOUT_R with RET_L+FPOUT_L.
Still got that disgusting sound in the rear though. Sounds horrible

    Please read carefully
    Part number Part SB040
    Hello,
I have a fresh install of Win7x64 OEM. First, I want to say that I have "AUTOMATICALLY MUTE SPEAKERS" UNCHECKED under the Headphone detection tab. I have tried "Automatically Enable Headphone Settings" checked or unchecked. No difference.
As soon as I plug in headphones to the front panel connector , the speakers in the mixer say "disconnected" (see below) and the SPDIF becomes the default output. There is no way for me to change this. And there isn't any sound coming from the headphones when plugged into the front panel. (the mic front panel works fine)
I am using the nati've Win7 drivers for the card. Apparently the Win 7 drivers on your site are older than the nati've ones.
This worked fine in Windows XP 32. Any ideas.

Ok guys this is how I fixed the problem on my X-Fi PCI-Express. Open the Creative SB X-Fi Volume panel. Mine is set in game mode and I have 5 vertical sliders for Line-In /Mic, MIDI Synth, Digital-In, and the last one will say one of three things either Digital-In, Microphone, or Mirophone FP. At the top of the?slider there is a tab which brings up a drop down menu. Mine was default set to Digital-In, I switched it to Mirophone FP (tried Microphone first and it worked but the FP sounds better for me) and cranked it all the way up and my problem was solved. Very frustrating one though as there is no documentation that led me to the fix it was just playing around with it till I could figure it out.
I hope this at least helps some of you out.

  • 5.1 surround sound from macbook pro, external soundcard (USB)

I've been spending lots of hours searching for some kind of a external soundcard that is compatible with mac.
I have a logitech x-530 and need to find a solution on how to get it working. (true surround..)
Im not sure what you call it, but i think its "analog" sound, atleast i need to be able to connect 3 cables (front, surround, base)
I would really appreciate help with this problem!

  • Bugged drivers 2.40.0008 Sound Blaster Titanium xfi pcie

    Hello guys,
after several attempts i can assume that the new drivers 2.40.0008 for my Titanium xfi pcie cause bugged audio in Broken Sword 5. If i go back to 2.17.0008 everything works fine. My system has win 7 sp1 x64.. i've tried also formatting my pc and the problem is still there! What's the problem with this new 2.40.0008?
I wrote Revolution Software about the bug but they didn't gave me any solution!
The game starts and the audio is ok but every time a dialog begins i've to click mouse button to go on whilest with 2.17.0008 this problem is not present...
    Thanks so much

    UAU thanks so much....
i spent my entire afternoon trying different solutions to replace OpenAl drivers....I tried to intall the one from previous drivers (2.17.0008) but it didn't work (so i assume that the incompatibility is with the new drivers 2.40.0008 because openal drivers are the same 2.1.0.0 in both packages).
I wanted to replace the drivers in windows/system32 dir and after several attempts i used the drivers you suggested me and follow this guide:
    Windows instructions:
    System wide:
For windows, your alsoft.ini is %AppData%\alsoft.ini. Edit this file (or create it) and add:
    hrtf = true
Chances are however, your OpenAL is slightly out of date. No worries though, easy to add in.
    Download and unzip this file.
    On 32-bit Windows: Copy Win32/soft_oal.dll over C:\Windows\System32\OpenAL32.dll
On 64-bit Windows: Copy Win64/soft_oal.dll over C:\Windows\System32\OpenAL32.dll (Yes I know. The naming was their idea, but it really is the 64-bit dll). Then copy Win32/soft_oal.dll over C:\Windows\SysWOW64\OpenAL32.dll (That's the 32-bit one. Confusing enough yet?)
I still don't find alsoft.ini file and i don't understand where to create it but nevermind....each game (BS5 retail and Book of unwritten tales) runs perfect now!!
Thank you very very much magg

  • Sound Blaster Xtreme Audio PCI Express Quest

I assumed these were uni'versally compatible with PCs but when I opened my Dell tower it doesn't seem to fit in a slot. Can anyone think of anything I'm doing wrong? or are they not compatible with most PCs?Thanks for any help!

As the model name says; PCI Express -> you can connect this model into a PCI Express slot (x, x4 or x6 type slot). Remember always read the Requirements part too.
If your Motherboard doesn't have one then your card has more use in your bookshelf.

  • I need to move my Audigy2 sound card to another PCI slot and...

Hello everyone , hope everyone is doing well today. (and everyday!)
As the topic says I need to move my PCI Audigy2 card down slot , got a new BFG 6800 Ultra and need to make some room.
My question is how should this be done with as little trouble as possable , I really want to (if possable) avoid at all costs an XP reinstall.
I think if I try to remove the card through DM then shut down and move the card to another slot and then start the PC (I have my BIOS set to plug and Play OS) it should detect it and reinstall it in the other slot. But with IRQ problems being what they are , all that should be sometimes isn't.
I have once before tried to remove all creative drivers , then uninstall the card and move it to another slot on another system (NForce chipset) and wound up doing a major reinstall because it would not see the card , but I have an ASUS K8V SE Dlx (VIA Chipset) now and it seems to be a more trouble free board than Nvidia.
Well thats about all I have for now , if anyone has ever doen this before I would really appreciate any help/tips before I take the plunge.
    thanks ,
    SC

Copy the ENTIRE iTunes folder from the old computer to the new computer.
Install iTunes on the new computer.
Launch iTunes on the new computer.  Everything in iTunes will be exactly as it was on the old computer.

  • Audio in premiere CS6

    hi, folks,
i'm running premiere pro cs6 with a sound blaster recond 3d PCIe soundcard.  all works well if i use computer speakers, or if i plug headphones directly into the soundcard.   but if i connect to an onkyo receiver via SPDIF out, there is a slight delay in the audio output.  has anyone encountered this problem, and/or solved it?
    thanks.

  • Alsa sound and xine engine suddenly stopped using the right soundcard

I have a relativly fresh arch install and was astonished how easy the installation of alsa was. I just installed the alsa-lib package and it automatically detected my PCI soundcard instead of using my onboard chip.
But suddenly (about some hours ago) Amarok refuses to playback on the right soundcard. Instead i get output on my onboard card. I'm using gnome and if i check the Audio settings everything is on "Alsa" and if i click on the "Test" button i get that annoying sine-sound - on the right soundcard. If i try to manually change the sound output in Amarok from "Autodetect" to "Alsa" i get a xine error and Amarok crashes.
Then i tried to define my default soundcard in my .asoundrc:
    pcm.!default {
    type hw
    card 2
    ctl.!default {
    type hw
    card 2
    No luck. What's happening here?

  • Soundcard vs Onboard sound

    Hi Guys
Just a question... .I am not 100% sure but it seems my onboard mobo sound might be making some strange noises.....so I might turn off the onboard audio and put in a PCI Soundcard.
I have a spare on lying aorund but it is old and I am wondering if it is any better then the onboard audio.
The onboard audio is obviously on my MSI 875 Neo-FIS2R Motherboard
But the spare sound card I have is the Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Souncard
Is this work, better or about the same?
    Cheers

    Hi NovJoe
Seem like you are the only one trying to help me out here.
Thanks for that by the way.
So let me ask you a couple of questions and I can base my decision on that...
    1. Would I notice any difference in sound quality through the speakers if they are connected to the Sound blaster Live! vs the onboard AC'97?
    2. Using 2.1 would there be a drop in CPU utilisation for sound. I have noticed when I played C&C Generals on full and at 1600x1200 it was smooth but the sound was choppy.
    3. What would you personally go for?
    Cheers for your help again
