Sound issue: everything except iPhone Streaming
I have a weird problem with my Apple TV. Everything works except when I stream audio from my iPhone.
Here are some things that work:
- Streaming audio through my MacBook
- Playing Netflix on the Apple TV (both audio and video are fine)
- Mirroring my iPhone on the Apple TV (an image of the iPhone screen appears on the screen)
- The navigation sounds on the Apple TV when I use my iPhone remote
When I play a Radiohead song, for example, the icon of the song appears in the corner of the screen as if it's playing, but no audio is coming out. The same happens for other apps on the iPhone, like NPR and Pandora.
All software is up-to-date on both devices.

I am having the same problem, plus it seems that my earphones don't work either. It has been an intermitten problem and I did a search and found that if I blow into the earphone port or use canned air to blow into the port it solves the problem for a very short time. Not too technical, huh? But, alas, this does not solve the problem. I had my iPhone 4 less than 2 weeks when this began to happen to me. When I took the phone back to the Verizon store today for assistance, it was was working just fine. When I returned home, within 3 hours it was doing the same thing. This is becoming very frustrating. Good luck with yours. Try blowing into the port and maybe that will give you a temporary fix.

I'm having sound issues with my iphone 3gs
Ok, so the speaker sound on my iphone 3gs has stopped working. The only sound I do get is my ringtone and if I play a voicemail. I also do get sound when I plug headphones in. However, whenever I get a text message or an email, my phone vibrates even though my ringer is on. I don't hear the click sound when I unlock my screen or type anything. If I push the volume side buttons, the small, black volume/ringer box does not appear and if I play music the volume adjustment setting is missing. I've reset my phone, I've backed it up, I've messed around with the sound settings, my software is up-to-date, I've tried cleaning my headphone jack with a q-tip and nothing has worked. I have no idea why the sound stopped working since the speaker sound worked earlier today, I haven't dropped it, and I've only had this phone for about a year. Any help and/or advice would be greatly appreciated.
I'm sad to report that I have the same issues between three to four times a day. Before I got my iPhone 4S (first iPhone I've owned, btw) I used to have a Sony Ericsson C902 that I operated along with a bluetooth headset HBH-DS205 that used to work perfectly together. Now, with the headset and the iPhone 4S I keep noticing that the connection breaks and all I can do to restore it is to turn the headset off and on every time. I listen to music all day long on the headset and this issue can get to irritating levels. Also sometimes I feel stupid as at work I'm one of the few 4S owners and, the iPhone being a state of the art device, my coworkers get to see me scrambling to figure out whether I need to bring the phone up to my ear or just one of the earpieces to my ear. The headset also has a answer/hang-up button that as of late, for the same reason, I cannot know for sure will start or end a call. I would hate to be forced to drop the headset as I really love it too.

As above. I think it's my fault as I don't know how to quit music, I think all I am doing is pausing?

Is anybody else having sound issues with their iphone? Ive had my phone for a few months now, and the sound on the part where you hear, and the speaker phone part cut out for awhile. Randomly..... That was about 3 weeks from having the phone. It came back on for a few days, and its not been working for a good month until today. I never changed any of the settings for anything, not even for the ringtones, or sound, nothing. In order for me to talk on the phone id have to have it on speaker phone to work. But I could never hear sound through those speakers when playing music, i could only do it through talking on the phone(hoping this makes sense so far). Im just curious to know if anyone else has had the same problem cause its kind of an annoyance to spend 400 bucks on a phone when you have these issues.

Message was edited by: Lonewolf12509Just had another call to Apple support. This time they suggested sticking the headphone jack in and out a few times in case the phone was registering it was in headphone mode. This seems to have worked! (I think I've only used the headphones about twice.)
How on earth did the phone decide it was in headphone mode?! Result seems satisfactory but I don't think this should happen in such an expensive gadget. -
I'm having random sound issues since upgrading iPhone to iOS6. For instance, after using iMessage I will sleep the phone without exiting iMessage. 5 mins later I will have messages sent to me but there were no sound notifications indicating such. Only if I exit iMessage prior to sleeping the phone will I hear notifications of new texts or iMessages. Also, random sounds like the swoosh when sending an email will mute randomly. I have to shut the phone off and restart before it works again. Why is this happening?
If you have a iMessage open and into a message, normally it will not sound. I think it is because you already have it open and in it. That is what I have noticed.

When I connect my iPad2 to my tv using the AV adapter I can hear sound for everything else except movies. I can hear tv episodes, music, YouTube videos, etc. anyone have an idea of how to fix this issue? Thank you for your help in advance.
Just connect the new iPod to your computer and setup the iPod via iTunes (instead of via wifi).

Some of the photo I take with my iphone will not get saved into my photo stream. Some of these photos were taken while the iphone was connected to the wifi, but did not get saved. Other photos were while not on wifi and they seem to get saved. I have not narrowed down what is the difference between those photos that get saved and those that don't get saved. Is there a way to force a photo to get saved? I would like to be able to access these photos from all my devices.
I also have an issue with the photo stream on my PC getting updated. I have photos in the photo stream that is updated on my Ipad and iphone. However, these photos are not getting updated on the PC. Everything seems to be set up on the icloud and photos stream for the PC.
Thanks,That is the way it is designed to work. If you want the photos on your Mac on your new iPhone, you can sync them with iTunes.

While updating my iphone 4s to ios6, I had to restore it. Now every time I connect to itunes, I get the "Set Up Your iPhone" window with the set up as new iphone and restore from backup options. After the restore, I got everything except my apps and music back. Do I need to set the phone up as new again?

Fix your iphone sound issue once and for all.
I spent the last 12 hours reading through sound fix's for iphones of all different numbers colors and types. everything from random button presses to blowing into headphone jacks to downloading a gangam style app. im here to tell you none of that crap works. blowing into the headphone jack "appears" to work temporaarily but its not a fix. heres what i did and it worked. i spent an hour messing with everything i could find. i could get the sound to come on but only VERY briefly. like seconds at a time. no volume bars nothing. but ringtones worked fine. i took a small screwdriver and gently pushed the docking connector upwards after reading it could be a docking issue. and whaddya know... works perfectly. not one issue now. now this could have fixed it for one of 2 reasons i can think of. either A the docking connector was in fact dirty and i got some crap off it when i moved it up. or B the pins were somehow not sitting right and by pushing it upward i reset them. i searched HOURS just to fix it myself. and im posting this in the hopes it helps some of you so you dont have to go through the crap i just went through. give it a shot just dont push too hard and snap yer connector. "btw might take a few trys of pushing it upward in different spots. i did it evenly across it a couple times and fixed all my problems."

Sound issues while streaming after installing Snow Leopard
Oh please help!
I have sound issues now that I've installed the upgrad of Snow Leopard (from Leopard) onto my Macbook. I have also installed the upgrade online.
This is the deal ...
I work online (Ethernet ... no WIFI) and stream video and audio, before the upgrad everything was fine, now the sound fades in and out and the video will freeze up for a second or two. I do have several options on the site that I work from as to what 'Quality' I wish to stream from. These options range from
56 fastest (modem) ... 126 Fastest (ISDN) ... 256 Fastest (DSL) ... Higest Cable, T1 ... 640x480 DH Cable, T1 and also External Encoding (which I don't use).
Skype works perfectly even after the upgrade.
I'm at al loss and need some help!

Sound issue on iphone 4 - 7.1.1
My mom has an iphone 4 that was handed down to her from my sister. After one of the ios updates...can't remember which one...the phone stopped giving audible notifications for text messages. As I have tried to troubleshoot this issue I have discovered the other following problems:
The phone will not play music on any speaker. I was trying to connect the phone via bluetooth to a speaker bar and when I tried to play pandora, I got nothing. I then disconnected the bluetooth to see if I would get sound out of the phone's speaker and got nothing. I attempted to play a downloaded song and got nothing.
I then tried to see if I could find other issues and I did. When I go into settings>sounds>ringtones I can switch ringtones and hear the ringtone sample. When I go into settings>sounds>text tone, I can select any tone in the list and all I get is a vibration, no sound at all from any of them.
I also found that when pressing the volume up and down buttons on the side of the phone do not produce the pop up box that shows volume going up and down
I believe these three problems to be related as some kind of systematic software bug. Can anyone confirm this or offer a possible solution. Keep in mind the phone does make sounds when someone calls also from the speaker phone. The only non-sound issues are text notifications and playing music. I find this to be a rather important problem because the phone can really no longer be used as a phone since my mom continually misses text messages because she does not get an audible notification.Hello hiknmt06,

My iMac won't start up, or wake from sleep. I've tried everything, except for reinstalling the SO-DIMM memory modules. Still, my iMac will not wake up. Turning it on, you can hear the fan run, but the display stays dark. Any ideas what to do? Thanks!
Mac doesn't boot
Can you hear the fans and hard drive and see the white boot screen? Flashing question mark? The circle just runs and nothing happens? Only black screen and nothing else? These can be very helpful to diagnose the source of the problem. [1]
Flashing question mark [2]: This is usually a sign of a failed hard drive. This indicates that boot up volume can not be found.
Black screen: This is usually a sign of a failed logic board. There is no single reason for this and this may be caused by failed GPU, screen, CPU or RAM.
Circle of death/no circle/blue screen: This is usually a sign of a hard drive failure. This may NOT be a dead hard drive, just broken permissions or something
Gray screen/Apple logo/spinning gear or globe/prohibitory sign/folder with flashing question mark [3]: This could be a sign of faulty hardware but more likely a software issue, i.e. broken permissions, failed software update, etc.

What to do
First, hold down the option key (also known as the alt key) just after you've pressed the power button. This should show all the available options to boot from, so if you have Windows installed through Bootcamp or a disk in your SuperDrive, you should be able to see them along with your OS X drive/partition. Select the OS X partition with arrow keys and press enter. Startup key combinations
If that doesn't help continue doing the steps from below:
1. SMC reset [4]. Shut down and unplug all cables including power cord for at least 30 seconds and then plug in power cord and keyboard/mouse.
2. PRAM reset [5]. Hold down option, command, P and R while booting. Start it when you hear the sound and don't let go before it reboots.
3. Safe boot [6]. Hold down shift while booting to boot into safe mode. If this works, open Disk Utility from Utilities and repair your permissions and verify the disk
4. Hardware test [7]. Insert the install disk (disk 1 in Mac which shipped with OS X 10.5.4 or earlier, disk 2 if shipped with OS X 10.5.5 or newer) and hold down "D" before the grey boot screen opens. Follow on screen instructions
5. Boot from install disk. Boot from the disk that came with your Mac. Hold C while booting. Select Disk Utility from top bar and repair permissions and verify the disk. Reboot normally and see if it works now.
6. Boot from another Mac (Firewire target disk mode). Connect the machines with a Firewire cable. Power on your Mac and press T. Select the other Mac's hard drive. Download the current OS X combo update. Run the combo update installer and select the drive that won't boot as the destination.
7. "Repair" OS X. Boot from the install disk as in point 5. and reinstall OS X. This should NOT erase any data, just replaces the system files which may have caused your booting problem. Now install the latest combo update for OS X and repair permissions on your drive with Disk Utility.
7.1. Install OS X into an external hard drive and then boot from it [8] and try to copy your data from the hard drive before proceeding. If you have done a backup recently, you don't have to do this.
8. Restore OS X from Time Machine backup. Boot from the disk that came with your Mac and choose the Time Machine restore option. This step will lose any changes made since your last backup but the system and your data will be put back to exactly as it was on that date.
8.1 Reinstall OS X. Boot from the install disk as in point 5. and select Disk Utility again. Now erase the whole hard drive and install OS X again. If you had a Time Machine backup and step 7 worked you don't have to do this. -
What is a packet problem? I'm having sound issues.
I'm at my wit's end. I am having sound issues. I've run diagnostic tests and everything comes back as OK, but it's not OK! Something somewhere is messed up and I can't figure it out.
I have been to the help rooms on paltlak and opened up support tickets and everything they told me to try has not helped. They suggested I change the sound tuning on my chat program, change exceptions on my firewall, uninstall and reinstall chat program, uninstall and install earlier version, download drivers for sound card, and etc. Nothing is helping this problem.
Someone mentioned that it may be router problems or packet problems. I'm not sure what that means, and that is why I'm on this forum asking for help. I have no other sound problems on my computer. My music and videos play fine. It's just when I'm in a voice enabled chat, do I experience these problems, or if I'm on a website that has videos, the video will not load all the way, so I only get 30 seconds of a video. Does anyone know what could be causing this?
I have used this chat service for over 5 years and up until a week or so ago, it worked fine. I did a complete reformat of my computer in hopes that it would help, but I'm still having the same problems. I lose sound within 5 seconds of entering the chat room. Then it takes between 3-5 minutes before I hear sound again, but then I only hear it for a few seconds. Then it goes away for another few minutes. Repeat. Over and over again.
I'm running Windows Vista on an Acer Aspire 380 with wireless cable modem. I keep losing sound in any voice/sound enabled chat and on any site that has videos. I have 1gig of ram, 300 gb hard drive, 32 bit operating system, 2 processor cores, directx version 9, realtek sound card. Everything is up to date, and firmware is up to date. My speed test is: download: 6.162 mbps and upload: 926 kbps.

Yes, it just started recently and after not being able to fix the problem, I completely reformatted my computer and started with a fresh slate, but still having the same problems. The videos will not continue to load. They get less than half way and then just totally stop loading, therefore I only get to view the video up to the point where it stops loading. I just took your advice and I disconnected the router and connected my computer directly to the modem and my sound issues were fixed. I went into the voice chat and had sound for over 10 minutes (and then I disconnected) instead of the usual 5 seconds that it'd been. So is it the linksys that is causing this?
