Sound issue in WXP - one yellow ! in device manager on Equium

When installing the sound drivers it finds a modem on hih def audio, then when you reboot it throws up an error message. I rolled back the driver but still need to solve the sound problem, in device manager I have one yellow, other device, PCI device.
The sound drivers appear to be there and working, the drivers are Legacy is this right? Looks like a conflit somewhere. I dropped Vista after network problems now XP has sound problems.
Any Ideas please

Hi David
Ive checked your other postings created here in the forum and it seems you are a owner of Equium A100-027 PSAAQE series.
Am I right??
First of all I would like to clarify some things.
Mostly the yellow exclamation marks appear in the device manager because something could went wrong during the driver installation procedure or you used simply a wrong drivers.
I think you should firstly find out if you used right drivers!
Please go to the Toshiba driver page and check again the driver versions and download it again.
Ive noticed that many users download the wrong drivers and try to install it.
On the Toshiba page you will find also the installation instruction. There are 2 txt files available.
One for XP and one for Vista.
Please be sure that you use the right installation instruction for the right OS.
Then download all drivers and follow the installation order mentioned in the txt file!
Usually everything should run ok and you should be able to install all drivers!
Best regards

  • NO Audio output Device is installed as well as NO sound, video, or game tab in the device manager

Here is the issue I had with with my Compaq F700 series laptop. The sound was working one day and then not working the next. Over the volume icon there was a big red X and the warning that  No Audio output Device is installed. I also found that there no longer was the sound, video, game tab in the device manager. It had gone missing.
I couldn't use most of the fixes as they require having the sound, video, game tab available and this tab was, as I said missing. I tried reinstalling the sound drivers from the manufacturer’s website as well as using the driver re-install, but at each attempt it would fail as a result of not having any audio devices installed on the computer.
I tried doing the system restore and rolling it back but the problem didn't get resolved. What eventually worked was restoring the system to a MUCH earlier date, like a month prior to the problem. When the restore finished the sound was still not fixed. HOWEVER, the computer OS (WINDOWS 7) needed to re-install a bunch of updates and after the updates were installed, everything was working. I suspect that the original issue was a bad update (the updates didn't install correctly) and that by rolling the system back to a time prior to the bad updates and then re-installing the update was the fix.
With that said, if the restore option doesn’t work or can’t be done I would try looking through the add/remove programs in the control panel and uninstall the most recent system updates, then restart computer and let the updates re-install.
    Good Luck

Only option that I see in the BIOS is under Security.  Audio Device: Hidden or Available. It was set to available and I left it at that. Still no audio.
Really? Nothing? This computer is one year old. Absolutely no reason for this to be happening. What a joke.

  • 6215 SlimPC/W2K/Sound Issue

Installed W2K Pro on SlimPC (6351 Mainboard). Pulled all
current drivers for CHIP/LAN/VIDEO/SOUND off MSI site. Pulled and Flashed the BIOS current with v2.0. Everthing is great but the sound. No matter what I keep getting a CODE (10) on the AC97 Audio Controller.
FYI MSI Live-Update2 does not acknowledge that the 6215 even needs an audio driver???? What Up..
    Any comments greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
The Sigmatel-sounddriver-issue will be found under W98 too: on my 6315 HWversion1-machine I installed dual boot Win98 and Win2000pro. Under both OS's, the Sigmatel-sound-system showed an acclamation-mark in device-manager.
The Solution appears to be to install the ADI-soundmax-software which can be found on MSI-website too via Support-Drivers-OnboardSound:
    http://download.msi.com.tw/support/dvr_exe/188xwdm.exe.
After this install, the device-manager-soundsystem changes from Sigmatel to Soundmax Integrated Digital Audio.
Very confusing but it works. Afterwards, I discovered that the Soundmax-install is more or less described in the 6315V1-manual.

    Hi:
    Try these drivers:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-55777-1&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&...=
For the unknown devices, please click on each one in the device manager.
Then click on the details tab.  In the Properties drop down list, select the second item (Hardware ID's).
Post the top string of characters you see in the window.
Those will provide more info about the devices and I can send you the links to the drivers you need.

  • Lack of sound after Window 7 (64) installation into iMac OX 10.6.7. Tried to install driver from Snow Lepard disc (Cirrus 64).Wizard installed driver. No sound, Device Manager indicated that "driver is not installed" but also that the"device is working"

I don't know how to proceed. I didn't have sound after installing Windows 7 inot iMac OX 10.6.7 (64bit) After unsuccessful attempt to upgrade the driver from the BootCamp  file, I deleted the driver from the Sound and Game controlled hoping that I would allow me to automatically install the correct driver from Boot camp.
Now the Sound Video Game controller disappeared from the Device Manager
How can I find out which is the correct sound driver for my computer (The Speaker Properties only say:WIndows)?
How can I install it without seing the Sound and Game controller in the Device Manager?

When you say "manually download", you mean from the BootCamp File on Snow Leopard, or from the Internet.
My additional problem is that the "Sound and Video Game Controller" disappeared from the Device Manager when I removed the previous driver. I don't find the place where I can reistall the new driver.

  • Portege M600 - Sound issue - No audio outout device

I kinda have this exact problem with my Toshiba M600 too, it was fine till now, the sound sometimes available, sometimes "No audio output device". I initially thought it was a driver issue that I didn't manage to solve earlier. So I thought of moving forward with installing Window 7 to replace Window Vista, I didn't erase any of the recovery partition just the main one. After it's done, the audio problem still persist.
I've tried it all, using generic window drivers, Toshiba drivers for Windows 7 and Vista. Latest audio driver from the audio brand, from latest to old. Formatted a few times, done it all. Even did a full system recovery to factory setup with recovery disc, the sound still sometime works and sometime doesn't.
I can conclude this is a hardware problem and not the driver.
    Just my 2 cents.

Hi MisterX, thanks for your input regardin' this.
Indeed strange, I forgot to mention I even update the BIOS. You're right, it is integrated audio, so the mobo (audio part of it :)) may be faulty.
Yes I thought so myself, if it's dead, stay dead! haha, but as you know computer stuff are weird, a little more info about the symptoms are sometimes the windows startup sound; starts a bit late, sometimes windows will start up with "Digital Output" as audio output, which doesn't produce any sound but there's no x on the speaker icon on the taskbar.
If i start the laptop up each day for the first time, 99% of the time it will have audio, from that point sometimes restarting will not have audio, and most certainly if i shutdown and turn it back on again, 100% of the time wont have sound.
I'll live with it I guess, 90% of the time it will have sound, if i don't restart it haha. But also I notice sometimes if the laptop goes to sleep or hibernate and waking it up, the sound may disappear also.
I've found a lot of similar stories, not only to Toshiba laptops. Some even mention that they have to go to hibernation 5 times to bring the sound back, which might probably work for me :)
I'm not sure but i don't think sound card for laptop exist.. there's nothing more I can do..

  • Strange sound issue with my Satelite U300

I've got a strange sound problem with my laptop.
I have XP pro + SP3 (downgraded from Vista to XP)
Couple week ago, a reinstall XP, because I thought it could solve my problem. But...nothing.
This is a problem: When I turning my laptop on, it gives me a message, "warning, cannot access volume control". When I check device manager, the only yellow question mark is bout PCI memory controller and there is no more unrecognized devices founded.
In Sound, video and game controller - Realtek High definition Audio is just missing.
Usually , then everything is ok, in "Device manager - Sound, video and game controller " I have - Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio drivers, Legacy Video CApture Devices, Media Control Devices,
Video codecs, Realtek High definition Audio. But then sound is missing, the "Realtek High definition Audio" is also missing.
Computers restart doesn't help. Even, when I uninstall Realtek sound drivers from "Add and remove.." and install it freshly, it also doesn't help. I tried to update drivers - nothing..
But, there is one strange thing: When a turning my laptop on couples hours later, or even next day (for exmpl) everything is ok. Sound works. And I can understand why....
All drivers downloaded from Toshiba. BIOS is being updated.
Maybe somebody know how to solve this problem? Any solutions?

    Hello
This issue has been brought up on this forum several times under other topic headings. Look under Audio Driver Missing, for instance. I have had this exact problem since purchasing my Toshiba notebook more than a year ago. Toshiba tech support is useless - and you're right that BIOS updates or changes make no difference, at least so far. The other ideas or replies given so far on this forum also don't solve the problem. Unfortunately for now I think you have to live with it, until someone spends the time to figure out what is really going on. I am curious if it is a Toshiba problem, a Realtek problem, or a Vista / compatibility issue.
I have two suggestions, which aren't fixes, but can help get your sound back when it disappears:
    1. Restart several times, not just once. Sometimes it works.
    2. Try the System Restore function. This used to work for me, until I updated the BIOS and now it no longer helps with this issue!
Make sure you post a solution if you figure it out!

  • Strange sound issue on iPad2

my mom is having odd sound issues on her iPad 2 that i was able to somewhat fix. and it goes from fixed back to broken o.O
i thought it was interesting and worth mentioning, in case this happens to anyone else.
her iPad 2 is up to date on the latest iOS (5.0.1) and the issue occured while she was watching a video in YouTube. sound is totally off in all apps. in Settings>General under 'use side switch to' it is set to 'mute'. when going to Settings>General>Sounds the volume control for ringers will work and cause the ringtone to play, so it seems the speaker itself is fine. however it will only work there and for that short time. afterward sound will continue to remain off. the volume control on the side of the unit will bring up the on screen speaker icon, except it doesnt show the bar that usually goes up and down with the volume. and sometimes at the top of the grey box it will say 'sound effects'. ive also tried switching the mute on and off which changes nothing.
the one thing ive found that changes anything is the multi tasking bar volume control (double clicking the home button and then sliding all the way to the left, where it shows a screen orientation lock, brightness slider and a volume control bar). now the volume control bar is unfilled and doesnt show the dot that you can slide up and down to change the volume. however when i plug the iPad 2 into a computer (any computer seems to cause this) the volume control bar will suddenly fill and the dot will appear. now suddenly sound works in all apps and will change with the side control again as normal.
now heres where it gets even weirder!!!
sometimes when unplugging the iPad 2, after a short while volume will slowly fade out and be unresponsive again. the side buttons stop working and the volume control in the multi tasking bar will be unfilled and unresponsive. repeatedly plugging it in, going back to the multi tasking bar volume control and unplugging will eventually bring volume back. a couple times ive gotten volume to stay on and the volume bar to stay responsive by unplugging it while im in the multi tasking bar. but sometimes this is not the case.
for the record, ive tried 'turning it off and on again' and resetting all settings and erasing all content and settings (both with starting up from a back up on iCloud and PC, and starting up as a new iPad). ive used two different laptops, one with Windows Vista and one with Windows 7. the iPad is synced with one laptop but aside from using iTunes to back it up and for charging, ive not made any changes to the iPad using these devices. during the entire duration of my attempts to fix it, the iPad has been on no lower than 80% power. ive also called Apple and discussed this with an Apple Care representative. who suggested all the same things id already done, and walked me through all the fixes to make sure i didnt skip anything.
hopefully and most probable is that its just an issue with iOS 5.0.1. i also have an iPad 2 thats up to date with 5.0.1 and ive not had this issue, YET.
i just thought it would be beneficial to the community to share this issue and get word out that this is happening. i would like to hear everyones thoughts on this issue and if this has happened to anyone else. the Apple Representative that i spoke to had not heard of or had to deal with this issue so it sounds like its rather new or rare. though she did mention that this is not normal behavior for the device and might be a software issue.
id like to conclude with my love for Apple, and how user friendly iDevices are in general. ive had iPods from the very first generation and all of them still work (though the older ones cant be updated past a certain iOS). the few issues ive ever had were easily fixed with a visit to the Apple Store or searching on the Apple Support Communities. so as with before, i will remain positive and look forward to a bug fix in the next update.
-thanks in advanced for reading, and any comments

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the iPod and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • Sound issue on iphone 4 - 7.1.1

My mom has an iphone 4 that was handed down to her from my sister.  After one of the ios updates...can't remember which one...the phone stopped giving audible notifications for text messages.  As I have tried to troubleshoot this issue I have discovered the other following problems:
The phone will not play music on any speaker.  I was trying to connect the phone via bluetooth to a speaker bar and when I tried to play pandora, I got nothing.  I then disconnected the bluetooth to see if I would get sound out of the phone's speaker and got nothing.  I attempted to play a downloaded song and got nothing.
I then tried to see if I could find other issues and I did.  When I go into settings>sounds>ringtones I can switch ringtones and hear the ringtone sample.  When I go into settings>sounds>text tone, I can select any tone in the list and all I get is a vibration, no sound at all from any of them.
I also found that when pressing the volume up and down buttons on the side of the phone do not produce the pop up box that shows volume going up and down
I believe these three problems to be related as some kind of systematic software bug.  Can anyone confirm this or offer a possible solution. Keep in mind the phone does make sounds when someone calls also from the speaker phone.  The only non-sound issues are text notifications and playing music.  I find this to be a rather important problem because the phone can really no longer be used as a phone since my mom continually misses text messages because she does not get an audible notification.

    Hello hiknmt06,
You may need to restart or reset the device.

wrong approach - if using gnome-shell it does need to be there.
I not only have an idea ~ but i do know how to fix your problem (i just need to read up, because off-hand i can't tell you how to do it).
i ALWAYS disable PA - because it is crap!   i also think it is stupid that gnome -developers decided to make it a static dependency, when there are so many issues with it.

  • Intermittent Sound Issues - HP Pavillion dv6700 Entertainment Laptop

    Hi,
I have a HP Pavillion dv6700 Entertainment Laptop running Windows Vista 32bit Home Premium and have been running into some strange sound issues first.
First, on occassion when I start my laptop I will get a "No Audio Output Device Installed" Message, and no sound controllers show up in the device manager.  Strangely, sometimes if I restart the laptop or put it into hibernation and bring it back, the output device will again work.
Also, when it is working I am experiencing other strange issues.  Often, sound will work only through headphones, and not through the built in Altec Lansing speakers.  Other times, even with the headphones plugged in, I only get sound through the speakers.  And sometimes, no sound through either, even though the computer at this point is showing a working audio device.
Lastly, when the sound does work through the speakers, it is normally crackling and distorted - it doesn't sound right at all.
The sound device installed on the computer is Contextant Smart Audio 221 (At least when it chooses to be working...)
I hope there is a solution to this problem, thank you very much for any support!

I also have a HP Pavillion laptop, with Windows Vista..  I am having sound issues, but not the same ones..  mine often displays the volume bar on the screen, clicking like I'm turning it up or down.. I can't get it to stop or go away.. I usually have to reboot and most of the time it stops, until the next time I open the laptop.  Also, when it's not doing this, I can't control my volume from the touch pad volume control at the top of my keyboard.  I thought maybe it was just damaged because it seems to have some scratches in that area where the top connects when closed, but I didn't think it made sense that rebooting will stop this, even temporarily.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, however, one driver didn't come back.. it actually seemed to be better at first, but now I have to reboot it almost everytime I open it.  I thought if I didn't leave it in hibernation, just turn it off, while not using it, that would help, it didn't.  I have also tried updating the drivers and they are updated.. If anyone knows what else I can do, please help, it's terribly annoying, plus I have a lot of music on it, I'd like to listen to it sometime.

It was working with when was using cloned displays. So when I've change that, in sys tray I can see a message like "no output sound device is installed"... So I tried to change display settings back to original (cloned) but I have the same error now....only default windows sounds are played via laptop. Reboot of laptop didn't help. Have no idea why it was working for few mints...
do you know what drivers should I use? that are tested and working with this model?
    Update:
..I found out that the problem described above appears when HDMI output is recognized in Realtek Manager and is set as default output. So when I can find HDMI in realtek Manager, i have a message "no output sound device is installed" in sys tray.. however, default windows sound can still be played via laptop... If I could change default from HDMI to Speakers, I should have be able to play also movies sounds via Laptop... However, I can't change it... not sure why
    Update2:
.. ok.. when I disable HDMI driver in "Computer Management -> Device Management", all sounds are go thru Laptop... At least, I can have good pic on TV and sounds from laptop... However if you know how to make sounds play via TV as well I would be veeery happy ;)

  • Apple TV after upgrade only video no sound issue.

So I had no issues with ATV until yesterday(10/25/2013) when I updated ATV with the latest update .Since then , whenever I play a video on my iphone 5S and airplay it , the video plays well on the TV  but there is no audio at all  . I tried changing the Dolby setting s and the Audio Output settings , but it doesn't seem to work .
Never had this issue earlier .
Only restarting Apple TV and my Router seems to solve this issue for now .
Is there any fix for this issue.

    Hi @31danny
I understand that one of your notebooks is not playing sound using HDMI, using all the same hardware. Also that you have performed some of the standard checks. I am happy to assist with this.
As to why the one is working and the other is not, is impossible to say yet. Like any complex device, there are small variations between the components, and in some cases that can result in differences between how one performs versus the other. So no two pieces of hardware will be exactly the same.
Anyway, I would recommend you check through this page and since you have already done many of the things within, I would look to the options further down, and start with the hard reset:

Let me know if those steps help at all, and if not, any other information you can provide.
