Sound issue through headphones

I've only had my phone a few days and audio playback is fine until I plug in the headphones. I get this bizarre “garbled” sound kind of like whatever audio is being played is inside a fish tank. I've unplugged the jack and plugged back in several times to get the same effect. Anyone else have this problem? Thank you

I had this problem with my iPhone 4 as well. It got progressively worse, until I got no sound at all. I tried multiple headphones with the same problem, and even bought a brand new pair to test with. Strange thing was that the stock Apple headset worked, but since the earbuds don't fit me it didn't matter. I took it to the Mac store along with the new headphones that said on the box that the were designed for use with iPhone and they swapped it out immediately.
By the way, it's possible that there's a foreign object or some dust in the jack receptacle. Take a look with a flashlight, and, if so, blow in some compressed air or clean out with a q-tip that you've removed most of the cotton from. Good luck!

  • Sound issues - only headphones or speaker working

    Hi all,
I've only had my phone a few weeks, but I've today started having a problem with the sound on my iphone 4. The system is acting as though my headphones are permanently plugged in - in that I can only hear callers etc if I have them on speaker phone or use headphones.
I've tried resetting the phone, just in case, and have tried plugging and unplugging the headphones jack repeatedly to no avail. The phone hasn't been dropped or damaged in any way (as far as I'm aware!). Any suggestions appreciated
    Sophie
    Any ideas?

    Perusmuro,
I don't think it is a software issue, most headphone jacks take care of the transfer between speaker and headphones thru mechanical switching.
I really am starting to become gun shy of this forum. It seem like every time I browse it someone finds a new Major problem and as soon as it is mentioned a dozen people chime in with "Yup me too".
This sound like a low quality headphone jack problem and something that will require a phone exchange.
It is just amazing how one high end phone can have so many serious problems and not a single comment from Apple about any of them except for the antenna issue and there reply to that was it doesn't really exist and if it does it is OK because all smart phone have this problem that doesn't exist.
Maybe just because it is late and I am tired but it appears the iP4 has more problems than it has components. Before I get all the folks jumping me about theirs works fine, so does mine but I'll be damned if I am going to plug a headset in to find out if I can break mine - I would just as soon not know. Ignorance is bliss or something like that.

  • No Sound except through headphones

I have an Envy Phoenix 810 PC with an Envy 23 Monitor with built in speakers running windows 7. I can test sound on the computer with headphones and they work and I can test the internal speakers on the monitor and they work but I cannot get any sound externally without headphones. I called hp support and really got the run-around. This is the same problem with my home computer same configuration except it is running windows 8.1. Both computers are new but I am frustrated with this issue. HP support had me run system recovery on my computer at home with no success. Another support person reinstalled all the drivers but still there is no sound except with headphones. Do you have any suggestions? I have a jack plugged from monitor to computer.

    Hi,
Envy Phoenix 810 PC is a series of many models/products, what is yours ? How do you connect them ?
    Regards.

There no sound coming out of my macair, except through headphones / external speakers. How do I turn the built in speaker
Still a error there,.....your 'external speakers' are your built in speakers.
Did you mean to say -- "I have sound thru the headphone jack but NOT the built in/external speakes"
    No speaker sound:

    also:
    Reset SMC
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • No sound coming through headphones, just iPad speaker????

When I plug my headphones into my iPad, I get no sound, and the music continues to play through the iPad speaker instead.  The same headphones work fine with my iPod.  Is there a setting I need to change to shut off the music from going through the iPad speaker and send it through my headphones instead?

From what I gather, you have an iPhone 6 that has a low or muffled sound from the EarPods, and the EarPods work fine with another device. The article linked below provides a lot of great information and troubleshooting tips that should help you resolve the issue.

  • Sound coming through headphones not T7700 speakers

I recently bought the T7700 speakers for my Audigy 2 ZS platinum pro and have been experiencing alot of problems trying to get them to work. All connections are correct, however there is no sound coming out of my left speaker, but all others are fine. I discovered when i plugged my headphones into the jack on the external hub that i could hear the sound coming out of there. I've tried uninstall all drivers and reinstalling but to no effect. Any suggestions?

    Hey,
For the other person being able to hear you echo, during a Skype call. I have included the link 'Solutions to Your Skype Echo Problem'. This link will take you through different steps of try to cancel the echo. You can also try the steps in the video 'How to fix Skype echo problems and improve call quality'. Most of the steps here a duplicates of the previous link.
The last step that I would suggest is looking into the Call Echo at Skype.com/support. This site has a lot of troubleshooting information that you can try.

  • Saffire 6 USB interface- no sound coming through headphones on new MBA?

I tried with my old MBP, and it still works, but sound won't come through the interface and into my headphones using garageband on my new macbook air. I installed the same driver. Can anyone help me out? Using the same exact settings that work on my old pro

yes. the day i posted this it somehow magically worked after i tried messing with the audio midi app on OS X, however now it's not working again. I need to switch the format to 48000 hz for sound to come thru, but when i select that it reverts back to 44100 hertz and then i can't hear anything :/

  • My Ipod touch no sound coming through headphones ...only slight crackling of the song in left ear bud ...Ive tried other head phones it was working fine yesterday

my Ipod touch isnt playing the music through my headphones... only a slight crackling noise with faint music comes trough the left earbud ...Ive tried other headphones still not working ...It was fine yesterday it wasnt dropped nor did it get wet.it also doesnt have any sound coming out of the internal speaker when the headphones are removed.can it be fixed?

To rule out a software problem try the following:
    - A reset. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod
If you still have the problem then it is likely that the headphone jack is defective.

  • Sound heard through headphones, but not with internal speakers

Recently, my computer stopped producing sound from the speakers. However, I plug in headphones and everything can be heard. I've already checked Sound in System Preferences. Nothing is muted and all sliders are in the correct position. In the Output Pane, my only option for the output source is headphones, no internal speakers. What happened? What should I do?

I recently got the same problem. Its not that bad but confused me at first. If that is the worst problem you get with your computer consider yourself lucky. You could bring it by an apple store genius and see what they say but its most likely a switch problem like tteuer said. If my memory serves me right that switch is connected to the logic board, if you have it still under warranty, great, if not, you might as well get another laptop if it really bothers you.
Tip: I have made it work by either slowly removing the headphone from the jack or rotating it. If that did not work the first time I repeated it.

  • Sound Issue (not Headphones)

I've sent my Ipod in 2 times already and they say there's nothing wrong with it, but the left side of the stereo is only a tenth as loud as the right side... is this something I can fix? I've tried (to date) 4 pairs of heaphones and a car stereo plug-in. The people apparently dont see this problem, but it is very evident and happens constantly. Has anyone had the same problem. Let me know if there's anything you need to know before you can answer. I'll check here periodically.

So is the sound always very quiet on one side or is it intermittent?
If that latter, what happens if you wiggle the headphone plug in the jack while listing? Can you make it change volume that way?

  • Earpieace / Sound Issues with Droid Razr M

Having issues with my phone, bought new in September 2012, since yesterday morning.
When I make a call using the earpiece, I cannot hear it ringing (like dialing out to them) and after they answer, I cannot hear the person on the other end when they speak.  If I put it on speakerphone, they can hear me just fine and I can hear them.  Also on speakerphone, I can hear it ringing (dialing out).  When receiving a call, my ringtone audibly works, but then the same situation applies once I answer it - I cannot hear they, but they can hear me.  Again, if I put it on speakerphone, both parties can hear each other.  My alarm / ringtone works just fine, as well as all my other ringtone / notifications - such as text, etc.  But, if I try to play a YouTube video, play music through Pandora, or play another audio / video file with sound, it does not produce any sound, even through headphones attached to the jack.  It also plays sound when starting up - the "Droid".
Seems like a phone issue considering it is working for some things, but not for others.  I have gone through and checked all settings, tried it in safe mode, did reboots, etc, but all to no avail.  Anyone have any other troubleshooting suggestions, or are having the same problem?  It seems I have going to have to have it replaced - hoping this would be a manufacturers defect replacement though and not something that I should have to use my insurance on!
    Thanks!
