Sound issues on the white MacBook?

I'm just wondering if this is anything anyone has heard of. Apparently iTunes on my mom's MacBook will only play at a nearly inaudible volume. I just got off the phone with her and had her turn her iTunes volume slider up and the system volume all the way up, but she said the sound from the headphones or internal speakers was just barely there. I also had her type some text to speak, and that was a no go too. The funny thing is that she says the startup sound and Adium quacks are full volume. Any help is apreciated. Thanks!

You may need to reset your NVRAM. The following link is for PPC machines and I do not know if it works for Intels:

  • How many revisions have the white macbook had?

Just wanted to know, I have had 2 white macbooks in 4 years.
Seems all of them have faulty cases, go to an applestore and look at all the white macbook's and you will notice all of them have faulty top-cases.
Just bought my second and after 2 returns, I still cant get a 100% clean macbook, how is that or why is that?lol
1st. Bad top case separation and faulty isight camera.
2nd. Couldn't burn a DL DVD and had slight top case issues and crashed all the time, genius said needs a DVD drive and new ram too.
3rd. Seems to be ok, but it's still under a day old, so who know for sure yet.
Should I feel like an *** for taking back computer that are not even 85% working out of the box?
    Thanks for your time!!

There are 7 revisions of the white MacBook. It does seem like most of them have the issue with the topcase, and many people believe the way Apple dealt with this problem is by introducing first the unibody MacBook and now the smaller MacBook Pro.
I think you've had some bad luck with the machines you've received. My MacBook is about 15 months old and I had the topcase replaced after I had the computer for 11 months. Haven't had any issues for 4 months now!

  • Why is the White MacBook out of the store?

    Hallo Apple lovers,
I have a quastion for you: Why is the White MacBook out of the apple store?
    Greetz,
    Ruben.

The MacBook was sort of the "odd man out" in the whole MacBook lineup.  With the update of the Air and the availability of the 13" MacBook Pro, there really isn't a place for the MacBook.  Although, I don't believe Apple has made any announcement about discontinuing it.

  • When is there going to be an update for the white macbook?

when is there going to be an update for the white macbook?

I don't, I am just answering the question asked without speculating on days to come.

  • Hi - I am new here: I need help and advice on the White Macbook - thanks.

    Hi all,
I'm a new member to this forum + I am soon to be a new user of the Macbook.
I have ordered my new White 2.16 Macbook with an upgraded 2GB RAM & an upgraded 16GB HDD.
I have some questions which I would like answered please:
    1) How likely is it that my macbook will get the cracks near the wrist rests?
    2) How likely is it that my white macbook will discolour? Are the latest 2007 range also facing discolouration like last years models? How soon does the discolouration start to show?
    3) Is the macbook a SOLID build? Or does it feel cheap when you touch and feel it?
    4) How likely is it that the outer glossy body will get stratched? I remember the previous Ipods were poor quality and got stratched even by normal use or by putting it in your EMPTY pocket.
    5) How likely is it that I will encounter hardware issues?
    6) Is the Macbook AS GOOD AS Apple say it is?
Reason I am asking all these questions is because I am investing quite abit of money in a never before used item and with a company who I have never dealt with.
But having read all the issues and problems with apple products one has to ask these simple questions.
I mean even if you go out and buy a real cheapo laptop you would almost never come accross these poor quality issues in such a short time period has Apple users are stating.
Thanks, I look forward to the answers.

    1) It's impossible to guess the likelihood of cracks. We don't have the numbers.
    2) Discolouration seems to have been a problem specific to some earlier ones.
    3) The MacBook is solidly built, but still feels more fragile than a MacBook Pro or even an iBook.
    4) the outside plastic is easily scratched.
    5) impossible to say, we don't have the numbers
    6) Yes, it is that good. Great computer.
Any question you wrote which includes the words likely or likelihood is impossible for users to answer meaningfully, since we don't have access to any good numbers. Just from watching this discussion board, it might appear that cracks and discoloration are likely, but since Apple has sold millions of these things, these issues might really be measured as a small fraction of a percent. We just can't know.

  • Any issues connecting the new MacBook to LCD projector with VGA adapter?

I do presentations on the road using my old MacBook with whatever LCD I find when I get there. I run Keynote with lots of video clips in my presentations. I carry a Mini-DVI to VGA adapter. Most often it works fine.
I was hoping to update to the new MacBook, but I'm concerned about the display issues on the discussion board.
Has anyone had any experience connecting the new MacBook using Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter?

I received my MB (aluminium) 2.0 in early November, but only this week (2nd week December) have had a need to use it for a presentation via the Mini DisplayPort --> VGA adapter.
I thought I could use it just as I did my previous (white 1.83 MacBook) laptop, but this one is a bit quirkier. Plugging in the adapter cable results in a system freeze. Unplugging the cable will restore mouse control (unfreezing the computer) in most instances, but not all.
Turns out that in order to use an external VGA connection, I need to have the adapter plugged in and restart the machine. If the external display is not present from boot, then it freezes.
This is unlike my previous MacBook, in which I could plug-unplug willy-nilly. The screen would flash blue a couple of times and all would be fine, with the external extended display detected and functioning. This was one of those nice "Mac" things that my Windows-using colleagues were somewhat jealous of, as they constantly have trouble getting their laptops to recognize the LCD projector.
Sadly, it looks like I'm now living in their world...

  • Battery issues on the 17" Macbook Pro

Is anyone else having issues with the battery on their 17" MacBook Pro?
I see that there is a recall on the 15" model but nothing for the 17".
I have been having issues with the computer shutting off unannounced when on DC power. It will only run for a couple of minutes and the time that it will run is getting shorter and shorter.
Also, after shutting down (hard shutdown, saves nothing) the battery won't fully charge.
This morning I put the computer to sleep to head into work. I pulled it out of my case to plug it up and begin my workday and the computer seemed to sit funny. I look under it thinking it was on a cord or something, turns out the battery has expanded. It is about an inch thick on one side.
I've had the machine less than a year but of course it's past the 90 days of free phone support (which is a crock BTW--90 days....***???? ) I called, because I actually do have the 3 year extended support but didn't have the number with me, I assumed they would have it on file, since they did sell it to me. Long story short, they of course didn't have it, I have it but it's at home, but they'd be glad to help me for $49.95 support fee.........***??
So, how does one go about getting their battery replaced when it is obviously defective and htey don't have their extended support agreement with them? I can do it when I get home today, but I'd like to be able to ge it done ASAP so I can actually use this as it was intended.....a portable computer.
I think it's funny all the commercials they have poking fun at PC's yet I've had a lot more issues with OS-X and this Intel based machine than I have with any of my previous PC notebooks.

    Yes.
My MBPRo 17" (bought it in June) suddenly started switching off at 30-40% charge. Called Apple, got told to reset the PMU (or SMU, can't remember) and zap the PRAM, and then recalibrate. Did all that, but it didn't help. The computer abrubtly went to sleep at 35% last night, and now this morning when I plug in the power, the battery isn't recognized.
I'll call Apple tomorrow, and expect them to send me a new battery as this one is obviously dead.

  • Sound Issues on Brand New MacBook Pro

    Hi -
Sorry to re-post this again, but you never know if someone new is looking or if this is an issue with a whole bunch of MacBook Pro's that just went out.
I just got shipped to me (I bought from apple.com) a brand new fully loaded MacBook Pro 15".
The sound has gone out completely. Every now and then it will come back on, but 90% of the time it's just out. I can not figure out what is triggering it to work when it does.
I spent some time on the phone with support and they think it's a hardware issue that my only options are the send it back for a new one or send it in for repair - which both suck, cause they don't give you a replacement one, and I would have to migrate everything back to my old Powerbook which is a dinosaur.
Is anyone else having these issues? I can't be the only one!
Please let me know if any of you have found a fix.
The sound icon in in the top right bar, when I hit the F11 and F12 key the icon comes up like it's working there is just no sound. The Sound Preference appears as normal, etc.
    Thanks- Erik

If you plug in headphones or external speakers, do you get any sound through them? If you go to the sound preferences pane, do the built-in speakers show up as an output option?
The headphone jack has a sensor which turns off the built-in speakers when it senses headphones or speakers are plugged in. Sometimes that sensor can get stuck. Have you tried inserting and removing headphones a few times?
I'm sure you've been through this possibility already, but just in case...

  • Sound Issues with early 2008 Macbook Pro

I have an early 2008 Macbook Pro with Mavericks that has suddenly developed a static and clicking sound through the internal speakers.  The static and clicking sound does not occur when using headphones.  Is this a speaker failing or due to some other reason?

If there is no success with a PRAM reset, make an appointment at an Apple store genius bar.  The evaluation will be FREE regardless of the age of the MBP.

  • TS1630 Sound issues with the new 5c?

I've today just gotten the iPhone 5c, and when my boyfriend called me he said he could barely hear me and the volume was going from loud to quiet. I've only just got this phone and it seems to be defective already. Anyone else with this issue?

Same here... I am so mad, I cant even tell... Just got the iPhone 5C unlocked directly from the Apple Store in Las Vegas Fashion Show Mall one week ago and it is already defective. It semmed to work fine until today... Now I don´t even know what to do. I´ve tried everything on the article and nothing works. The worst part: I live in Venezuela and they do not offer service in this country... GREAT!
By the way, this one is my second iPhone. Previously I owned the iPhone 4 and had the same issue when I bought it.

  • Is the Aluminum MacBook worth the extra $$$ over the new White MacBook

    Hello,
This is going to be my first Mac purchase and am leaning towards the White MacBook over the Aluminum model but I've read a few postings on issues with the White MacBook display...
    Thanks

Having a polycarbonate body, the white may look more fragile than the one piece aluminum but fragile is not a word I'd use to describe it. In the past year I've seen a MacBook that's fallen from a moving motorcycle - the case scuffed up but not broken and diagnostics showed the computer unharmed. Another owner brought in her MacBook that had been run over by a car - the top case cracked but the LCD unbroken and the computer passed diagnostics. I watched a student drop his MacBook as he carried it under his arm, it came to rest opened on the floor and I was certain the top had come loose but no. It was fine. And my own MacBook fell from the desk to a wooden floor and survived unscathed. Obviously others can recount examples where their MacBook was damaged by a fall but these examples indicate that the MacBook might be breakable but it isn't fragile. Not like the Dell notebook I saw fall from a desk this spring and shatter.

  • How will an external Hard drive designed for the macbook Pro work with my White Macbook?  My  white macbook has a Firewire 400 and the G-Tech HD has a 800 to 400 compatible cable for the firewire.

I am asking this because I want the G-Tech Hard drive  says that it is designed for the macbook pro.  Yet, I want to back up faster with by using my firewire 400 which is not an option on the one designed for the white macbook that does not have a firewire (only a USB port.)  The G-Tech Hard drive comes with the 800 to 400 compatible cable and has 5400 RPM with 750 GB.  Also, I've heard that laptops with low battery (mine all the time)  won't have the power for a bus powered Hard drive (as in no ac plug in adaptor.)  Can I just plug in my laptop?  Any one know the answers from experience with this hard drive?

As far as I know, if a harddrive works with a Macpro, it should work with the Macbook: if your Macbook is low on power, plug in the AC adapter
If your Macbook has a firewire port, then it should be fine. BUt i would do somemore research first.

  • Has anyone had any issues using Adobe CS or Pro Tools on the LATEST MacBook

I am about to purchase a new MacBook Pro and would like to know if there has been any issues with the latest MacBook Pro with programs such as Pro Tools, Adobe Creative Suite, or any programs that have anything to do with rendering. Please let me know what's up.

No problems with CS5, the only suggestion is that if you're going to do a lot of rendering get the i7 CPU, max out the RAM (not necessarily from Apple, OWC have very good quality and prices) and get the 7200rpm hard drive.

  • About the new white Macbook...

Now that the "original" polycarbonate Macbook has also been upgraded with nVidia graphics, I could be persuaded to replace our iBook G4 with one of those new models : it's cheap and most important of all, it's got firewire. I'd really prefer a black one, but they only sell the white one, so I'll have to accept that.
    Anyway, I have some questions.
The 120Gb hard drive is a bit limited, but I guess it's easy to replace it yourself. Next, memory. I'd like to upgrade to 4Gb. It's DDR2 (unlike the unibody) so relatively cheap. But does this model support DDR3, should I want to put in DDR3 instead of DDR2 ? Would the slower DDR2 not limit the Gefore9400 or the macbook overall performance wise (I'm thinking Snow Leopard and Open CL) ?
And finally, does the white macbook's shell still suffer from discoloration ? The iBook we have has a palmrest which is in a light grey colour, so the problem doesn't pose itself there.

You missed my point - anyone who knows anything about Snow Leopard's performance is under an NDA and cannot talk about it. Anyone who is willing to talk about SL's performance is either guessing, talking nonsense, or breaking the NDA. We just don't know.
In terms of how the older black MB compares to the newer white model, since I haven't had a chance to play with the new one, I can say. But I can say that I switch between an original black MacBook and an early 2008 MBP almost daily and while the MBP on paper is a much faster computer with much better graphics I don't really notice all that big a difference between the two most of the time. Is that any help?
