  • Mixing audio from different clips: levels dropping automatically?

    Hi,
I have a few clips containing audio. Then add 1 song to the timeline too, and I want to hear audio from both the song and the clips.
When I mute the audio of the clips, I hear the song at a certain volume. See video+song here: music only - YouTube
But when I also enable the clips audio, the volume of the song gets a lot lower automatically. See video + song + clip audio here: music mixed - YouTube
I realise that adding the audio on top of each other will result in peaks that are too high, but I don't really care if these peaks get clipped. Most parts of the clip audio have a fairly low volume, but even on those parts the volume of the song stays very very low.
When I decrease the audio levels of the song and the clips to keep the master levels from going into the red zones, the same thing happens. Only the overall audio mix has a lower volume (but still the song volume goes down when played together with the clip audio).
Is there any reason for this to happen? Does this depend on some settings, can it be my audio hardware that causes this?
    Thanks for any help.
ps: I come from editing in vegas, and never experienced the same problem there

I have my waveforms back! Thank you SO MUCH! I looked everywhere and just couldn't find a setting for this.
As for the sync, I guess that's OK - it's no worse than what I had before (and with the waveforms back, less of an issue to do manually). Would be nice if they'd add the ability to offset the audio track in the Modify Clip screen at some point (and it would open up the multi-cam sync feature to more users), but I can cope without for now.
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Sound level at 100% after restart

The output sound level on my Mac after restart is at 100%. It is extremely annoying because I use headphones a lot and a pair of amplified speakers (when not using my headphones). Just some minutes ago it almost destroyed my ears. I heat it!
Does anybody out there can please help me to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance.

Zap the coreaudio process in Activity monitor, like this:
    1. Open Activity Monitor.app (Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor.app)
    2. Select ‘All Processes’ from the drop down menu next to the search bar (called ‘Filter:’) and type in ‘coreaudio’.
    3. Select the process name and click the ‘Quit Process’ button at the top. Chose ‘Quit’ or ‘Force Quit’ from the resulting dialogue box.
The coreaudio process will automatically restart itself (if you look closely at the PID number in Activity Monitor you’ll notice it changes after you hit ‘Quit’) and your sound problems should be solved.
If that doesn't work, return soundprefs to default like this:
    4. Open Terminal.app (Applications/Utilities/Terminal.app) and copy/paste this command into the Terminal window
    rm /Library/Preferences/com.apple.soundpref.plist
then press ‘return’ on your keyboard.
    5. Restart your mac and test.

  • Sound Level Pressure with several channel

    Hello,
I met a problem with the VI "SVL Exp Avg Sound Level.vi". It works perfectly if I make a measurement with a single microphone, but with more microphones I have some computation error with discontinuity depending on the buffer size.
The following message is given in Labview Help :
"The SVL Exp Avg Sound Level VI requires a continuous input data stream. An
internal mechanism automatically detects any sampling discontinuity and resets
    the filters. "
I suppose that there is a link with my problem, but I have no idea to correct it.
Here is my VI which is composed of a producer/consumer pattern. The consumer loop computes the sound level pressure during the measurement and stores the measured data in a TDMS file.
I am not expert with enqueue and dequeue function, so maybe it is bad programmed and I have some discontinuity in my data stream coming from the dequeue function.
    Thanks for your help,
    Mathieu

Based on your screenshot, it looks as though your code may be computing the weighted sound level for each channel in a single For Loop. The Weighting VIs and the Sound Level VIs maintain state, so it is not correct to use it in a For Loop to process multiple channels. Instead, wire the entire array of sound pressure channels to the input of the weighting and sound level VIs. The polymorphic VIs will adapt to the input type, and if the input data is continuous, the warning will not be returned.
Interestingly, you may be able to simplify your code if you specify the read order to group measurement types. Here is some code that I was looking at when evaluating performance for some different approaches to grouping waveforms. The Group by measurement type case was the fastest.

  • HP Pavillion 15-p046na sound level on playback

    Hi,
I've recently bought an HP Pavillion 15 laptop with AMD/Realtek HD audio hardware and Beats Audio.
Windows 8.1operating system.  It's brand new out of the box with no updates made.
When I playback mp3 music via Windows Media Player, the volume is getting boosted during quiet parts.  This is especially noticeable on tracks which fade out, the sound level gets progressively higher as the song fades out, like it's trying to maintain a constant playback volume.  This creates a lot of background noise on music recorded from vinyl, for example.
I've checked it isn't the recording, by transferring the same mp3 file to another device and playing it there - the song plays back exactly as recorded, no problem.
I can't find any options in the audio devices (or beats audio) which might control this behaviour.  Is there an equaliser somewhere in the system?
p.s. it behaves the same even with Beats Audio disabled.
p.p.s it behaves the same with internal speakers, headphones and external speakers.
    This question was solved.

    Hello, @MusicManJohn
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that you're having issues with audio playback. I will try to assist you on this.
As you mention not dong any updates yet, start with those. Complete all Windows updates, then use the HP Support Assistant to make sure all drivers are updated.
From there, read over this document:
No Sound from Speakers (Windows 8)
You have checked a few things from it already, just go over to see if there is anything else.
You can also try these steps (not sure if they will work for this issue, but have for other audio issues)
Open Windows Control Panel > Sound > Under Playback tab, double click on Speakers to open Properties > Go to Advanced tab > From the dropdown, select the highest quality stereo output. By default its on the second lowest setting which is DVD quality > Apply and close.
If that doesn't help, try this:
Move from the Playback tab to the Recording tab. Double click on Stereo Mix to open the properties and repeat the steps done earlier. Go to Advanced tab, select highest quality from the drop down > Apply and close.
Please let me know how this goes.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Any automation for output sound level conflict?

I just upgraded my home computer to a shiny new(er) G5 iMac, running 10.5.5. I don't know which of those are the necessary conditions for a change in output sound level behavior that I'm trying to tame. I have generally kept my cordless headphones permanently plugged in, rendering the old machine (G3 iMac, 10.4.11) silent to the outer (quiet) world of my house, including when it does a scheduled startup in the morning with some people still asleep. This worked well until the new machine arrived. Now the machine is still silent (outside of the headphones) all the time except when it powers up -- the startup chord now plays through the speakers regardless of a plug in the output jack. The problem comes with the output sound level. For headphones, the overall sound level needs to be at maximum. But the overall sound level seems to be the only volume control on the startup tones, and it is then at wherever it was set when the machine was last shut down. So if I forget to run the sound level down to 1 or zero before shutting down, the startup blasts everyone out of bed! So: I now have a sticky note on the iMac reminding me to turn down the sound at shutdown, which will usually work. My question: is there a more elegant way? Is there some way to automate the turning down at logout time, say? I'm inexperienced at scripting, but happy to learn. Any and all suggestions appreciated!

There were no responses to my problem, so I will post a resolution. I dug a little, and found there are several add-ons out there for this problem.
One is http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~arcana/software.en.html, which has the elegant interface of an added system preference pane. However, it is in a beta release, and temporary administrator authentication does not work. As far as I can tell, in order to get it to work, you have to login and run with administrator privileges, never a good idea. Maybe someday this app will work.
But I hit paydirt with an app called Psst, http://www.satsumac.com/Psst.php. This does just what I wanted. The interface isn't as elegant; you just run the app and make your settings, then quit. It leaves a daemon process running at every startup that does just what you want: it saves the global audio volume and resets the volume to the Psst setting at shutdown. Then at the following startup, the startup chime sounds at whatever the Psst setting was, then the audio volume is set back to the saved value. You can just forget it's there, having once set startup volume level.
Too bad that Apple didn't build this in the latest Mac OS, but Psst seems to fill the gap.

  • Having trouble with iPhone 5 sound level changing.

When I touch the edges of the side of my iPhone 5, the phone vibrates and the sound level goes to zero.  I have to press the sound level button to change it back to whatever setting I had it at in the first place.  Any suggestions to solve or is this normal?

    Hello Wildcat74
There are some steps to try out that I have highlighted for you in the article below for iPhone hardware troubleshooting.
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2802
    Camera is not functioning
If the screen shows a closed lens or black image, force quit the Camera app.
If you do not see the Camera app on the Home screen, try searching for it in Spotlight. If the camera does not show up in the search, check to make sure that Restrictions are not turned on by tapping Settings > General > Restrictions.
Ensure the camera lens is clean and free from any obstructions. Use a microfiber polishing cloth to clean the lens.
Third-party cases can interfere with the autofocus/exposure feature and the flash (iPhone 4 only); try removing the case if you have image-quality issues with photos.
Try turning iPhone off and then back on.
Tap to focus the camera on the subject. The image may pulse or briefly go in and out of focus as it adjusts.
Try to remain steady while focusing:
Still images: Remain steady while taking the picture. If you move too far in any direction, the camera automatically refocuses to the center. Note: If you take a picture with iPhone turned sideways, it is automatically saved in landscape orientation.
Video: Adjust focus before you begin recording. After recording begins, you cannot readjust focus until you stop recording. Exiting the Camera application while recording will stop recording and will save the video to the Camera Roll. Note: Video-recording features are not available on original iPhone or iPhone 3G.
If your iPhone has a front and rear camera, try switching between them to verify if the issue persists on both.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Regards,
    -Norm G.

  • Problems capturing - no sound and dropped frames

I have just begun a new project on FCP 5 on a G4 Powermac with OS X 10.4.10. This is the first project on this particular machine, but am reasonably au fait with FCP.
I am attempting to capture from a Canon XM1 via Firewire, and although I am able to control the deck and play video from it, there is no sound (other sounds are audible from the Mac speakers and there is audio on the tape in question). The capture setting is for DV Pal 48hz. In Audio/video settings, the options in Audio playback, apart from 'built in audio' are greyed out. The sound levels in FCP indicate that the audio is being recognised.
Also, any attempts to capture, whether via Capture Now or as a clip result in dropped frames.
I can give more information if required, but would anyone have any pointers for this? I would be very grateful as time is against me!
    Thank you

My mistake, I am actually using FCP 4.5.(for some reason I have the manual for FCP5 ???) The problem was that Speaker was set to off in Capture presets. Thanks for your help, now I have to sort out these dropped frames.

  • Audio levels drops to half

    Hi again,
I am going nuts on something that I've spent too many hours on now. Sometimes audio levels drop to about half on export or even playing in PP on rendered files. I can't figure out why as if I scrub back and try again, many times it plays fine.
I have 11 Layers of HD footage with clips linked to after effects etc. and 6 layers of audio. Everything is rendered and exporting gives me the same wierd audio level drops. It always happens between clips (in the beginning of the next clip) but not always. It drops to about half for a few seconds and always to the same level.
I should say that have exported this very project several times during making it without changing problem areas "audio" but as it builds up I am getting problems - is it too heavy to handle or what it going on? This is not the first time I have encountered this problem. Problem areas have only 2 layers of audio tracks playing at the same time.
Exporting audio without video gives same result. Anybody have any suggestions?
    Kind regards,
    Nick

    Nick,
Maybe not very useful info here, but an advice...
Being a native user of æ, ø and å when it comes to talking and writing, I have learned long time ago that using such (æ. ø, å) in file names (or in anything purely computer related) is something that causes hick-ups now and then.
PS! "Half" when it comes to sound is -3 or -6 dB (dependent on sound power or sound level)

  • Sound level variations without any command

    Hello.
When using my iMac 24" 3,06 Ghz, the sound level always varies without any command.
It is very disturbing mostly because it is associated with the display of the sound level on the top of the screen.
    Can you help me?
    :-) Dominique

A little more background. I've now found that I can get my volume back by clicking the Device setting off of CoreAudio, and then selecting CoreAudio again. This lasts awhile then the sound drops out again. Also, I've tried different instruments in the EXPS 24, different Instrument/MIDI channels and still get the dropout prob. Even deleted the audio object in the environment and started over with a new one. All the other instruments in the track list are EXPS 24 and not affected

  • Input sound level

I use a recording program and when I start to record, the sound input level in sound preferences automatically slides to full loud.  I must slide back to the middle or get distortion or just too loud.  Why won't the level stay put?

Digital audio is stored as a series of samples, where each sample is the amplitude of the sound wave being recorded. The volume of the sound is the same as the amplitude of the sound, therefore, each individual sample is simply encoded as the volume of the sound.
So you break the mic input down into a list of samples (based on the sample size / number of channels) and keep a running average to determine the sound level.

  • HT5517 How can I adjust sound level when streaming radio from my Apple TV through Airplay speakers?

I have a 2nd Gen Apple TV with an airport express set up as airplay speakers.  I can stream the new radio through using the Airplay speakers pretty well.  The problem is that once I've got it going, I cannot adjust the sound level without laboriously backing out of the radio menu, going back to the top level menu then drilling down into the Airplay settings to raise or lower the speaker's sound level.
Is there an easier way to do this?

go to system preferences > Sound > Output. then change the output from "built-in" to HDMI.

  • How do I get a descent sound level and quality when exporting out of Logic ??

    Hi guys,
I know this topic's been discussed many times before but I still can't fix my problem
I'm going crazy right now. It's been weeks I've been working on beats on Logic and I think they now sound pretty cool.
So I'm trying to export them out of Logic on mp3,or wav, or aiff but everytime it comes out very low. So when I'm applying different tips (limiter, adaptative limiter and different things I found on the internet... ) the sound level is a bit higher but still the quality is not as good as it is on Logic
So here's my questions : first, is it possible to get the exact same quality as the one you have when listening into logic ?
then how to get the best quality with a normal sound level  so when you listening to the mp3 or wave or aiff on itunes just after a normal song you don't have to turn the sound up
Thank you very much for you help !!
