Sound level options for voice analysis

I have two questions.
I am analysing voice signals using GRAAS microphone, NI9234, cDAQ 9178 & labview 2011.   I am trying to produce a two dimensional graph of the signal with SPL (DB)(y-axis) versus frequency (x-axis).   I noticed that the SVT sound level.vi from the sound & vibration toolkit outputs into 4 different values;
1. exponential averaging sound level (dB),
2. Leq sound level (dB),
3. running leq sound level (dB), and
4. peak sound level (dB).
Which of this four should I use.
Is it right that I should use linear weightage for human voice analysis?
Thanks in advance

If you've put the sound level to max & still not so comprehensible audio, it could be a hardware fault. A long shot, this haps to my friend check the small hole for the speaker if there is grit/dirt blocking it.
Knowledge not shared is knowledge wasted!
If you find it helpfull, it's not hard to click the STAR..

I agree with DOS. a 2.8Ghz CPU should OC to 3Ghz easy and should reach 3.2Ghz without much trouble. If I where you I would go with Kingston, Corsair or Geil, probably in that order. If you don't plan on overclocking passed 3Ghz their is no reason to go above 3200 for the RAMM frequency.

  • GB vs Sound Studio 3 for Voice over

I had some experience with Sound Forge on the PC side. I need a flexible editor for professional voice over recording and editing...giving me ability to record, edit from multiple takes on a single track, listen closely (and possibly loop small chunks of audio), edit words closely, take out breaths, etc. Anyone with some experience in these matters steer me to Garageband or Sound Studio 3 as rtgew best choice?. I do not seem to have as much control over the placement and control of the cursor with GB.... I seem to be chasing it all over the waveform. But then again, maybe its my own techno-moronity. Please help me, my-smarter-than-I-am-on-these-things friends!

    Your help is gushingly appreciated.

I have not used version 5 of Peak, but I've been using older versions for, hmmm, maybe 5 years. I'm not particularly fond of Bias software's tech support, however the software is really good, and I've put many hours into it and achieved great results.
Still, don't over look the free options. Lots of people like Audacity, and since it's free, I'd suggest trying it. Then if you don't find it works for you, try something else.

  • Sound input options for quicksilver 933 (2002) question.

My little plaintalk microphone does not fit into the audio input of my G4. According to the Specs. for this 'Puter there is no line in provided. I was looking at a Behringer UCA202 USB adaptor, which looks like it may work. I would need to get a splitter for the mike to use the two RCA inputs of the Behringer. - (I guess it's stereo...) The PCI audio cards that I've seen are a little overkill for what I'm after, and much more expensive. Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!!
    Tom

I posted a similar question recently. Somebody recommended a M-Audio card to me but as you are finding they are a bit pricey. I think the bottom line is you get what you pay for. I have seen everything from the thousand dollar PCI cards, to a $2 USB converter thing that looks like a flash drive and takes the 3.5 mm plugs for standard computer headphone and microphones. I am tending towards a less expensive device because I have ancient audio tapes with poor quality, though my respondent pointed out that if you take a poor sound source and record it through a low quality converter then you end up with even more garbage.
There's also a similar thing to the Behringer that is made by Griffin (iMic) at the same price. I don't know how they compare in terms of audio quality, but the iMic uses 3.5 mm jacks which would save you the cost of a converter. In my case I want something to attach to my home stereo so I'm glad you pointed out the Behringer.

  • BE6K supported options for voice conferencing

    Hello All,
Does anyone know or understand why CUCM 8.6.2 on BE6K cannot support MeetingPlace 8.5?   I could understand if its on the same UCS but I understand from Cisco SE the BE6K is not supported on box or off box when intergrated with MeetingPlace.   My only options are to upgrade the BE6K to Full CUCM and CUC at a cost of 11.00(CUCM) + 11.00 (CUC) * number of users (Plus ESW+UCSS).
    Thanks
    Roger....

The idea behind the BE6000 marketing bundle is that it is designed to support up to 1000 users per system, given the lower cost C220M3 server configuration (SATA drives).  In a Unity Cxn HA cluster running A/A, 500/500 would be ideal.  If you place both Unity Cxn servers in standalone mode with 500 users each, I can't see that offering any different load on the system.  So you should be ok, just realize if you separate the UCM cluster across a WAN, you also have a BW requirement to meet, although this is much less most likey - min 3Mbps but depends on your busy hour calculations.  UCM BW requirement is discussed in the main UC SRND.

  • Any automation for output sound level conflict?

I just upgraded my home computer to a shiny new(er) G5 iMac, running 10.5.5. I don't know which of those are the necessary conditions for a change in output sound level behavior that I'm trying to tame. I have generally kept my cordless headphones permanently plugged in, rendering the old machine (G3 iMac, 10.4.11) silent to the outer (quiet) world of my house, including when it does a scheduled startup in the morning with some people still asleep. This worked well until the new machine arrived. Now the machine is still silent (outside of the headphones) all the time except when it powers up -- the startup chord now plays through the speakers regardless of a plug in the output jack. The problem comes with the output sound level. For headphones, the overall sound level needs to be at maximum. But the overall sound level seems to be the only volume control on the startup tones, and it is then at wherever it was set when the machine was last shut down. So if I forget to run the sound level down to 1 or zero before shutting down, the startup blasts everyone out of bed! So: I now have a sticky note on the iMac reminding me to turn down the sound at shutdown, which will usually work. My question: is there a more elegant way? Is there some way to automate the turning down at logout time, say? I'm inexperienced at scripting, but happy to learn. Any and all suggestions appreciated!

There were no responses to my problem, so I will post a resolution. I dug a little, and found there are several add-ons out there for this problem.
One is http://www5e.biglobe.ne.jp/~arcana/software.en.html, which has the elegant interface of an added system preference pane. However, it is in a beta release, and temporary administrator authentication does not work. As far as I can tell, in order to get it to work, you have to login and run with administrator privileges, never a good idea. Maybe someday this app will work.
But I hit paydirt with an app called Psst, http://www.satsumac.com/Psst.php. This does just what I wanted. The interface isn't as elegant; you just run the app and make your settings, then quit. It leaves a daemon process running at every startup that does just what you want: it saves the global audio volume and resets the volume to the Psst setting at shutdown. Then at the following startup, the startup chime sounds at whatever the Psst setting was, then the audio volume is set back to the saved value. You can just forget it's there, having once set startup volume level.
Too bad that Apple didn't build this in the latest Mac OS, but Psst seems to fill the gap.

  • ITunes-LAME settings ideal for voice.

    Using iTunes-LAME Encoder v2.0.9 (34) & LAME v3.97
I am having trouble with some past suggested encoding options for voice or audiobooks. Of the settings below, only -b 48 produced an encoding. I expected adding -m m to the end of that would get me a mono of the same but got a spinning ball instead. The others below all got stuck on "gathering info" with a spinning rainbow. I'm wondering if the latest lame has a change in the command line for encoding options?
I am looking to end up with a small file size for Audiobooks (ie 48 kbps), and yet resolve the voice "s" harsh digital sound.
Using Audio Hijack Pro off a CD player set to CBR - 48 kbps - mono, I got a good sounding file much better on the "s" than iTunes (built in import) set to the same settings. Thus I was trying to see if iTunes-LAME could do as did AHJPro.
Looking for speed as well. The -b 48 sounded ok on the "S" but lost some of the higher frequency thus a little muted sounding. Also important not to make this a long encoding process as there are many discs to do. I realize the list below has a few different bit rates and CBR VBR and ABR. Some I do not understand the setting as they did not appear on the usage guide.
    Suggestion desired.
Anyone know a most current list of encoding settings (usage) that will work?
    So far tried:
    --preset 22 --noshort --scale 1.05 -q0 -mm --resample 16 --lowpass 7.0
    -b 32 --resample 22050 --lowpass 8000
    --alt-preset 64 -mm -b32
    --abr 64 -mm -b32
    -b 56 -m m
    --preset voice
    -b 48

Using a different iTunes library I was able to use the settings posted in my last message without a spinning ball. I think iTunes-LAME was just not finding the source. (I tried to edit the above for a 3rd time but forum wouldn't allow.)
Thus the problem is not in the settings, and I was able to compare the results.
Though I'm still interested in a good discussion of settings both for voice and music.
I cannot explain the settings of the first two listed above.

  • Sound and Vibration toolkit for vibration analysis

Hi guys! I am new to Labview. I am trying to use Sound and Vibration toolkit to analyse the accelerometer signal mounted on a motor through myRio. The analysis are spectral map, order tracking, power spectrum, order spectrum etc. But nothing can be seen from the output graph. The only result I get is from vibration level.
Attached is a screen shot of my vi and actual vi file. Am I doing it correctly? I really need your help guys....
    Thanks.
    Attachments:
    Vib.vi ‏384 KB

    SK,
You have serious problems in your File.VI.  Why are your writing to your file and then reading it right back?  Worse, there is no guarantee that the File write will actually occur before the File Read.  You have a race condition set up there between those two Spreadsheet File VI's.
If you want to maintain a history of whatever has already been written to the file, you should be building it into an array and storing in a shift register.  Even if your File.vi would by chance work the way you want it to, storing data in the file system is much slower than maintaining your data in memory.
As for your while loop, it is going to run as fast as it can with respect to all the functions occurring inside of it.  Is it possible you are getting 14 iterations of that while loop for each frequency step that is occurring?

  • Where on Nano is option for "sound check"

I have a brand new Nano, 3rd generation, 8GB and want to use the "Sound Check" option described in the manual.
I checked this option in Itunes, under Preferences> Playback to automatically adjust playback volume to the same level. The manual indicates this must also be done on the Ipod. I can't find the menu option on the Nano.
I've looked under Settings and these are my choices: About - Shuffle - Repeat - Main Menu - Volume Limit - Backlight - Audio books. I tried "Volume Limit" but that only is for "locking" the volume, not adjusting each song.
    Any ideas?

    1)- Turn on the iPod
2)- Scroll down & select "Settings"
3)- Scroll down to "Sound Check" & click on it

  • Manual override option for Unit selling price in Order line level.

    In OM R-12
Our client wants manual override option for Unit selling price in Order line level.
But there is no solution available to fulfill this requirment. To be able to manually override the price on a Sales Order line you
must have defined a manual modifier that qualifies for the Sales Order line in question. Without a suitable manual modifier the price cannot be changed.
    This is current standard functionality.
Anybody can give some suggestion/workaround to override selling price in Order header level without using the modifiers.
    regards,

    Hi Kashif,
I'm finding it little difficult to buy Oracle Support's feedback with regards to R12 functionality for direct List Price update without using any modifier (manual or whatever). After all it is Oracle's product and they should know better. But test results in Solution Beacon's Vision 12.0.6 instance (http://www.solutionbeacon.com/tools_r12vision.htm) and documentation updates in R12 (R12.0.4) OM user guide & implementation manuals potray a different picture.
After your last post, I did a test in Solution Beacon's Vision 12.0.6 instance with following details:
OM: List Price Override Privilege = "Unlimited Access" at user level
OM: Discounting Privileges = "None" at user level
No manual modifiers defined and Order status = "Entered"
I could display the "List Price" field from folder under Line Items >> Main tab, override the list price to a new value and save. The unit selling price showed the new value based on updated List Price as soon as I tabbed out of the list price field after overriding. After saving it showed the new selling price. _Please note that under Line Items >> Pricing tab there is another "List Price" field and that is not editable_. For such overrides "View Adjustments" (from Line >> Actions) will not show any adjustment details as it is a direct update of list price.
Also please note that, if "Enforce List Price" checkbox is selected for the order type, the list price cannot be overridden even if the profile option is set to "Unlimited Access".

+Note: Note: If any order line for an order has the Calculate Price Flag value equal to Partial Price or Freeze Price new order level adjustments will not be applied or allowed to be overridden. _The profile option OM: List Price Override  Privilege controls your ability to override the unit list price. If you have this profile set to Unlimited, you may modify the unit list price by editing the current value displayed_. _A new profile option, OM: List Price Override Privilege controls whether or not you can update the List Price_. It is enabled and updated at the application, responsibility and user level. It is not user visible and updatable. The values include+:
    - View Only: This is the default value. If set to this value, the current behavior is retained, which means unit list price field is protected.
    - Unlimited Privilege: If set to this value, you can override the unit list price field from the main tab and immediately see selling price adjusted accordingly.
    To use Override List Price:
+1. Navigate to the Sales Orders/Quick Sales Orders window.+
+2. Enter the header and line information, including the ordered item and quantity, then tab to the next field. The Selling Price and List Price display+.
+3. If the profile is set to Unlimited Privilege, you can enter a new list price in the List Price field. You can either proceed to the next line or save your work+.
+4. You can see the new, entered list price, and if there are automatic discounts applied, they will be based on the new list price+.
+5. If the folder has been modified to show the Original List Price, the original list price displays+.
+6. To change the List Price again, go to the list price field and enter a new value, replacing a previously entered value. If Audit Trail is enabled for List Price and a reason is required, a window appears to enter a reason and optional comments+.
Note: Subsequent overrides of the List Price, after the order line is saved, can be captured by Audit Trail, depending on the setup of Audit Trail (entered or booked state) and any processing constraints that have been set up.

    JP,
I do not have my CS5 Extended handy, so will go from the Premiere Pro (Adobe's video editor) side of the street. Bear with me on this, as PS-Extended might do things a bit differently.
When one is Exporting an AV file, there are two things that must be set:
Exporting both Audio & Video (in PrPro, these are done via checkboxes in the Export>General dialog screen)
Then, one must set Multiplexing * on the Export>Multiplexing dialog screen, to anything but "None." The choice is usually "DVD."
It's the Multiplexing Tab, that many miss. If set to None, then there will be two separate Export files - one for the Video stream, and one for the Audio stream.
Hope that gets you close, and sorry that I cannot open things up, and give you the exact screens and tabs in PS-Extended.
    Hunt
    * Multiplexing is the combining of both the Audio & Video streams into a single, discrete file. Multiplexing is usually OFF by default, though in PrPro, it's a "sticky," in that it retains the last setting, so if the user wishes to make a change, they must do so manually, and that setting will then stick, until changed again. The Export of separate files for Audio & Video is most often used, when one is doing the Export to go to a DVD, or BD authoring program, like Adobe Encore. It works best with elemental streams, rather than muxed files, and especially with MPEG Audio.

  • IPhone4 Dock Connector Not Showing As Option For Sound Output

I'm using an iPhone 4 Dock Connector to output sound (via 3.5 mm cable) to a stereo.  This has been working for over 5 months, but all of a sudden it doesn't show up as an option for output from the AirPlay button.
