Sound not playing through speaker or headphones

Hi all
My iPhone 4 has developed a problem - I get no sound at all, not through the speakers, or by plugging in the headphones.
No app sounds, no key sounds, no phone call sounds - nothing!
I've tried cleaning all the fluff out of the headphone jack and the dock connector, I've also tried a full restore.
One other odd thing that happens is that if I open the Music app, it has now started cycling forward through the track listing by itself
Any ideas?

Did you already try to reset the phone by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data by resetting the phone, but it can cure some glitches.
If this does not work, try to set it up as new device without using the latest backup, to rule out a software issue.
If still no sound, you might have a hardware problem, and the phone needs to be serviced.

  • Sounds still plays through speaker with headphones plugged in

I've recently been having problems with my sounds. I would plug headphones into one of headphone jacks on my HP dv6tse laptop and i would hear sounds through my headphones as well as my speakers. So basically I'm getting sounds from my headphones as well as my speakers at the same time when only my headphones should be getting the sound. Is this a hardware problem or some kind of settings problem? Please help!

    same issue, i have a hp pavilion dv6 6169sl

  • Sound not playing through any device.

Sound will not play through any device I try. I tired re installing all the drivers messing around with the playback device
and sound mixer and tried going through the audio jack in the back the headphone jack in the front hdmi to my tv and usb wireless headset none of them worked. and tried them all on with something other than my pc and the devices themselves work. i honestly
dont know what else to try is it something with windows or maybe my graphics card or something else? please help.

    Hi Kevinwido,
When did this issue occur ?Have you made any modifications to the machine ? Will the built-in sound device work ?Have you tried to update the motherboard from the manufacturer website to have a check ?
You may need to download the sound card driver from the manufacturer for the sound devices to have a check.
If only the outer device won`t work and both of them are USB devices ,it is recommended to reinstall the USB controller driver, too .
If the issue occured recently ,we can perform a system restore to recover the machine to a previous point to have a check. Please note we will miss some configurations after the restore point .
    Best regards

  • Sound not playing through internal speakers or headphones

Okay, so I am wanting to listen to audio, but it is not working through my speakers or headphones. Last time that this happened, I know that it had something to do with airplay, since I remember doing something with airplay. I have no idea what is causing this this time, but if you need any additional details, just ask.

Have you tried a PRAM reset?

  • Sound not playing through iPhone 4s speakers in Music - the volume bar doesn't show up.

When I want to listen to music without headphones, the music doesn't play because the volume bar is absent. Why is this happening and how do I fix it?

Try resetting the iPhone by holding the Lock and Home buttons simultaneously for 10-15 seconds or until the phone restarts and you see the Apple logo.

  • Sound not go through built-in speaker

I have a iPad3 and have a weird problem recently-as mentioned in title.
The speaker inbuilt works, but only in two situations:when I am using Skype and force it in speaker mode(default to headphone);and I go to settings/sounds to change the volume of ringer and alerts, the sample sounds will play thru speaker. For the rest, it is stuck in headphone mode that I got no way to get out.
The mini jack sensor seems normal cuz when I plug or unplug the earphones, the volume will change accordingly itself to protect hearing.
I am quite sure it is not mused, and have updated iOS and reset all settings, cleaned dock port etc, still got no luck.  Any help will be appreciated !

Try doing a reset on your ipad,
Reset your iPad by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPad  will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back.

  • My ipod is not playing through my headphones but plays out loud

My ipod is playing music out loud but will not play through

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so. There is a little switch in the headphone jack that disconnects the speaker when the headphone jack is inserted.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack or other hardware problem.

  • Sound playing through speakers and Headphones at the same time...

Hi everyone, I have a Toshiba Satellite A215 S5849. It is only about 6 months old. Now whenever I plug my headphones into the headphone jack, sound keeps playing through the speakers and in the headphones at the same time. Also the speakers do always have a crackling sound like they are blown. I have been trying to fix it for awhile now but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello again, sorry that the driver did NOT resolve the issue. What I suggest we try is the Support Assistant. This will do a scan on your entire computer and if the computer does have a issue it will find it and show you how to resolve the issue. • My iPod Touch will not play through external speakers when it is docked.  It only plays through it's internal speaker.  All the other functions on the iPod can be controlled by the external speakers (volume, track, etc).  How do I fix this?

My iPod Touch will not play through external speakers when it is docked.  It only plays through it's internal speaker.  All the other functions on the iPod can be controlled by the external speakers (volume, track, etc).  How do I fix this?

    I would try in oreder:
    - Resetting the iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restoring the iPod via iTunes.  First from backup and if problem persists, restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • I can listen to ITunes on my ipad on a headset but they will not play through the speaker

I can play I tunes on my iPad and listen on a headset but the iPad will not play through the built in speaker

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Check your settings. The iPads have a small switch on the right edge. It can be used as a rotation lock to keep the screen from automatically reorienting itself as you move around, but you need to have the tablet’s settings configured properly. That same switch, right above the volume buttons, can also be set to function instead as a mute button to silence certain types of audio.
If the switch is set to work as a mute button, you can change its purpose to “screen-rotation lock” by tapping the Settings icon on the home screen. On the Settings screen, tap General on the left side, and on the right side of the screen flick down to “Use Side Switch to.” Tap to select Lock Rotation or Mute to set the button’s function. Even if you set the side switch for your preferred use, you can still mute the Mini or lock the screen. Just double-click the Home button, and when the panel of apps appears along the bottom edge of the screen, flick the row from left to right with your finger. Tap the icon on the far left side of the row to either lock the iPad’s screen or mute the iPad’s alerts, notifications and sound effects. Music, podcasts and video are not muted unless you turn the volume all the way down.

  • Getting sound to play through computer during import/selecting to import

    HI,
Complete newbie question as I've never done video before...
I plug the camera (Sony DCR- HC48) through Firewire into iMovie '08.
The camera is recognised, the import window opens and I can play the video, choose the bit I want and import it as a clip - cool! No problems there.
The problem is, when I am selecting the video to import the sound plays through the camera and not through the Mac. Ideally I'd like it to play sound through the Mac so I can use headphones while I select video to import. So my question is...
Is there no way to get the sound to play through the Mac as I am selecting the video to import?
    Thanks for any help.
    Pat

So what would be the "standard" way of working? Would you import the whole DV tape onto the hard drive and then cut it down to size on there or bring in bits from the camera and use the camera's audio to select the chunks you want?

  • Running iOS 7 voicemails will only play through speaker option

  • MP3 Player will not play through Mic Jack - NB 550D

    Hi
MP3 Player will not play through Mic Jack. Is this because I have not setup Realtek Audio Manager correctly?.
Also is there any way to play the MP3 through a USB Port
    Thx

    Hi
    What notebook do you have?
The mic jack records the audio signal. But I assume you want to use the mic jack an line-in. Right?
Usually you have to set the default device in recording tab.
In control panel -> sound -> recording tab.
If you will not see any further devices but only mic jack then you should click right and should enable the options; show hidden devices and show disabled devices.
Possibly then you could enable line in.
Otherwise such option is not available and not possible

  • My itunes loses the sound when playing through TV/receiver

My itunes loses the sound when playing through TV/receiver.  It is my 2nd Apple TV,  I have a Mac and PC and I have used 2 different receivers.  Any help?  If I start the music through Apple TV is doesnt skip but then I cant have it playing through computer at the same time.  It amazes me how these littles things arent fixed yet.

I have almost the exact same problem, except that mine is without the iTouch. My itunes is working perfectly - uploading music from CD's, searching for music, syncing with my iPod classic. However when i ask it to play any music it will say that it is playing yet not only will no sound come out but the timer bar will not move either. it is the same with music in the itunes store and happens regardless of what else is happening on my laptop.
i know my sound works fine with all other programs, and i read on another forum that 'repairing' itunes through the control panel fixes it, however this is not the case.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • My iPod touch is not playing through my stero

My iPod touch 4g is not playing through my stero. My stero has a dock that you can plug in your iPod or iPhone and you are able to select music to listen to. My iPod used to be able to do it but now it won't. My iPod shows that it is conected, but everytime I try to pres play on a song it will not play through the speakers of my stero. It does say it is playing, but it is not playing through the speakers of my stero. My steros speakers work just fine. It did however play my dads iPhone, so I know it is just my iPod touch.

    No good.
