It loads this modules for sound:

All seems well. However, when I load alsamixer, I only see one bar (Master). It is not muted, but when I use aplay, or any other media program... no sound.
Based on suggestions found using the forumsearch and google, I have run alsaconf. as root, I do have sound in windows, and when I try a player that displays sound processing, like xmms does, there seems to bee something happening.
My mainboard is Asus P5QL, with VIA chipset for sound.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

The reason ubuntu showed only 1 master is because it uses the pulseaudio output plugin. Uninstalling or disabling pulseaudio makes alsamixer behave as normal. However, you can simply achieve the same effect by telling alsamixer to use your card specifically, which is usually card 0. ie
alsamixer -c 0
This will work when pulseaudio is installed, and may have worked in your case. If anyone else has the same problem and doesn' want to move to oss4 yet, try that. If it works, add 'alsamixer' as an alias to that in ~/.bashrc so you dont need to remember the -c 0 part.

Sound not working in iTunes only

For awhile after downloading the newest iTunes 7 version everything was going well, until one day I restarted my computer and now I don't have sound. Everything runs and plays correctly, but there's no sound. I know there's nothing wrong with my speakers because everything besides iTunes is working normally. Any suggestions as to what may be wrong?

Same issue here. The sound no longer works in itunes only. The sound works fine in all other applications, passes the quicktime hardware tests. I have uninstalled and installed itunes for windows. All music appears to play, but no sound. Black diamond runs across as normal, videos appear to play - you can see the video, but there is no sound.
The last change to my system was the installation of the video game "Need for Speed" which has since been removed.

Sound not working after installing ios6

Sound not working. After double clicking bar at bottom has the line for sound but button to slide is mssing

Uninstalled IDT software from programs, removed/rolledback the drivers, downloaded the HP Support Assistant and it recommended an IDT software, installed that via HP Support Assistant. Everything is working fine now.

I have icloud but my itunes match is not working and displaying music, what can i do??

I have very similar problem. Suddenly Firefox stopped work - It was working few days after ver. 4 update. I was looking everywhere for some solution but nothing worked.
- uninstalled firewall - did not worked
- added full exception for Firefox into the firewall - did not worked
- Firefox reinstall - did not worked
- Firefox complete reinstall (registry included) - did not worked
- IPv6 diseabling - did not worked
- diferent proxy options (no proxy, system proxy, autodetect proxy) - did not worked
- new firefox profile - did not worked
- complete coockies, history... deleted - did not worked
- there is only one solution which partly works - I have used public proxy addresses for Firefox but the ping is (750ms), down/up (0.8MB/0.2MB originaly (10MB/2MB) and yes I have tried different proxy server from different countries from my included.
- IE is working perfectly and without proxy
- other companies browser - did not worked too
- only IE is working
- I have used three different malware, trojans, spyware, anti-virus programs and nothing
It seems to me as hopeless situation or very clever move from Microsoft, I am forced to use IE - at least this works
Any ideas, solutions?

Display only one variable in the header and not column in WAD

Hi All,
my requirement is to be able to display only one variable in the report output header and hide the others. I am able to display all by using the INFO FIELD ITEM and saying variable display ON - but the requirement is very specific for only one variable display.
how can i achieve this ?

Hi,
You can insert a text item and Turn off the others or Hide these from Filter pane I have done that and then use that query for your WAD.
Steps:
1. Uncheck all the variables from your Design item in Analyzer.
2. Insert a New Text Item and check the Variable you want to display.
3. Go back and run the Query.
Even you can change the position in the Query and Save as a workbook.Let me know ,if this works.

Magic iPad - sound not working, almost

Hallo - believe it or not. I found a magic iPad (first generation). One day, that iPad did not have sound over the internal speaker, even then knob on the slider disappeared.
Only when the headphone were plugged in, it appeared (the knob) and also the sound via headphone worked as before. So, I was looking thru the discussions here and other sources. I checked the condition of side switch and set it to orientation lock instead of muting. But I took care, that I did not change it when it was in muted position. It did not help.
Okay, no problem. The iPad was restored via iTunes.
Same behavior. Nothing has changed.
But then I was looking at the different apps (it is an iPad of a collegue). I found an app SMULE - it is an app which makes sound when you touch the screen. And, the internal speaker was working ! Hu ? The knob was there ! Hu ? First thought: it has repaired by themselves. I switch to iTunes and want to start a song. The knob disappeared and no sound ! Hu ?
I started SMULE. Sound and knob there. Switch to iTunes. Knob and sound - gone away.
Okay, now it is time to start from the scratch. I reset the iPad, so it looks like out-of-the box. That should work, isn't it ?
Wrong ! No knob on the slider, no sound. Plug-in the earphones. It works.
So, restored the apps again. SMULE is the only app which may take advantage of the internal sound, as before. As soon that app is active, the knob is there and the sound is brillant as it can be thru the internal speaker. Switch to any other app. The knob and the sound disappeared.
Aja, it is an iPad 5.1, the firmware is 5.1.1(9B206).
Does anyone has an idea except to buy a new one

One of your Apps is crashing the sound driver and thus the iPad loses some sound capability.
Restore the iPad as new in iTunes but do not install any Apps. The sound should work. Add Apps one by one to isolate what is causing the problem.

IOS 6 Notification sound not working!!

Hi everyone, when I updated my iphone 4s to the latest version of OS meaning IOS6, I noticed that the sound in notification is not working. Only displaying the notification. Anyone anyone else have this problem and if so how to solve it please ?

I've had exactly the same problem! Also the silent button on the side isnt working either. Calls seem to be ok, but emails sms facebook, none of those sounds work. Have you found a solution?
No I haven't. The difference is that my silent button is working and even sound when receving and email or an sms's. My issue is the sound of the notification of the applications. For example facebook, F1Live24 ..

If I understand you right all devices listed properly in device manager and you dont have yellow exclamation marks?!
Normally for high definition sound cards you need two patches from Microsoft:
KB835221 and KB888111.
Normally these patches are integrated in SP3 but this only works if you install the sound driver after SP3. So if you have an older version of XP without SP3 you must update to SP3 first and then install the display driver.
So in your case you should remove the current sound driver and restart the notebook. Then use CCleaner to clean the registry and system folders. Restart the notebook again. Then download and install the newest sound driver from the Realtek Hompage.

Front panel sound not working

Front panel sound not working* Hello everyone,
I've just bought a PCI Express X-Fi Titanium. So far everything works great with my 5. sound system, but I have problems with my front panel audio.
My case only supports AC97 front panel audio, but has all individual connectors (so 7 single connectors, not one with 0 pins).
I've already tried only connecting 5 pins (the two AC97 return pins unconnected) and connecting all 7 pins. In both ways the microphone works, but sadly not the headphone output. I also tried changing the two options in the driver but that changed nothing.
I did some Google searching and found many reports where the sound itself works with an AC97 front panel on an HD soundcard, just no jack detection.
Any ideas why that isn't working for me?

! Try here for pinouts of your jacks. I have a Cooler Master case that has AC97 and INTEL HD front panel jacks, but here is the kicker. The AC97 jacks come from the front panel first and then about fi've inches from this jack is an INTEL HD jack. A few wires are changed but perhaps these will help...

AUDIODG.EXE hogging 80-100% of CPU and sound not working in Vista . . .

I posted this on a Microsoft Answers Forum but none of the techs or people reading have been able to help so far. I'm dying to get to the bottom of this:

I've been using Vista Home Premium successfully for some time. Recently, not too long after I did a clean wipe of my OS, my audio would stop working. The way it would happen is that everything would work fine until I started iTunes or another audio application and when I would hit play, things would lock up.
Upon inspection of my system resources, I'm noticing that the audio platform for Vista, via the audiodg.exe, is using close to 100% of my CPU resources, even when the computer is making no sound at all.
I've had a Sound Blaster Live! card in my computer for some time but I was not using it; I use the Realtek AC'97 audio drivers that are on my motherboard instead. I thought that the conflict may be the computer wanting to recognize my Sound Blaster, so I took it out of my computer but the problem seems to be worse.
Are there any BIOS setting that need to be adjusted for my sound to start working again?
I'm very reliant on the audio processing power of my computer (I'm in the radio industry, part-time) and this is a huge drag on my productivity.
Any tips would be much appreciated.

Good suggestion. The problem is this:
I am running on-board audio. I have an MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum motherboard which runs "Realtek ALC Series AC97 Audio Driver" and there is no version for Vista. They have a version for Windows 2K/XP and one for Windows XP 64bit.
Should I use on of those and if not, then what?
UPDATE (from me):
I took a chance and found a Realtek AC'97 driver for Vista.

I went to install it and the install hung. So, I closed one of the install windows and then the InstallShield app continued like it was working. So, I hit "Restart my computer". Well, the reboot hung too. So, I reset the PC manually.
When the computer came back up, the sound worked. Hard to tell if this will fix it for good but it's promising. Chaotic. Unpredictable. Annoying.

My computer is behaving the same way it was before. AUDIODG.EXE taking up 80-100% of my CPU and the sound not working.
Any other ideas?

Small update: Despite my intelligence, good looks and vast experience I use Google sometimes. To my surprise this file turns out to be a Windows one. Here is someone who is much happier, and since it is some way in my line of thinking I'll quote it, but you might take my previous advice as well:

Sound not working Notebook Envy 15 TS windows 8 and windows 8.1 - problem continues

My computer sound stopped again.

After I`ve followed David`s steps my computer`s sound started working again. But it didn`t last. The sound stopped working just one day after.
I did the procedure again, and it worked. But just for a few hours.
The second time I reinstalled the IDT codec I noticed at the device manager that there is no conflict at the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC.
Instead, the conflict appear in another item of the sound, video and game controllers topic: high definition audio device.
Is there another codec I should reinstall?
Could anyone help me?

Had an Iphone 4 for about 3 months now. This happened to the first one I had and they ended up having to replace it at the apple store just a couple weeks ago 6/2. It happened again last night to my new one. This time i was able to correct it by going to itunes, backing up the phone to icloud, and then restoring the software. Mine did not work with voice memo, but did work with headphones plugged in, and would also work on speaker. I could hear callers but they couldn't hear me. I had purchased a new case (lifeproof case at $79.99) because it comes with plugs that cover the headphone jack, and the charging port, and is also waterproof. I heard that the root cause is due to lint, dirt, etc getting inside the headphone jack. Well, must be something else. It's a 10 days old phone, and has been in this overpriced case the whole time, and I have not used the headphones. I hope this doesn't keep happening.

5.1 sound not working

I have a X-Fi fatalty titanium champion series sound card with logitech z5500 5. speakers running vista x64 sp. I cannot fully utilize the 5. speakers for some reason. I have updated to the latest drivers, selected 5. speakers from both windows and the creative console launcher but then i get some butchered sound from only the front left and right speakers. I know the other speakers work bc if i only use 2. then i get the sound but it lacks the entire 5. stereo effects. Please [email protected]

When testing the speakers i only have sound from the front left and right speakers. the others are silent. thats through both the vista tester and Creative tester
If that's the case I strongly suggest you test the speaker's connections out, probably on a separate PC if possible!

iPad sound not working. Need help

Is it working on any apps e.g. Music and Videos apps but not third-party apps or notification sounds ? If you do get sound in Music and Videos then have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar.
