Sound on ipod 4G only work when earphones
my ipod speakers do not work and when the earphones are out and i try to put the volume up. it says headset mode or something like that
- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
- Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
- Restore from backup
- Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
- Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. Seems you have a bad headphone jack.
Apple Retail Store - Genius Bar
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price if not under warranty. They do not fix yours.
Apple - iPod Repair price
A third-party place like the following will replace the jack for less. Google for more.

Ipod classic only works when cold.
Does any body have experience with an ipod that only produces sound when cold, ie, coming out of the refigerator. Also, will get sound when holding down the right lower corner? I don't get sound from the ear phone jack or the docking station. I have read extensive threads on another site regarding this.
There are probably some dry solder joints that work when pressure is applied in the right place and the device is cold. As it heats up different components expand at different rates and the circuit fails. I doubt it is amenable to an easy repair.

My son dropped his Ipod in some water, we put in a bag of rice overnight and it works fine when connected to the computer or docking statioon but it will not hold its charge once it is off the cable & not hooked up, so he cannot listen to it unhooked.. Any suggestions on what to do? Thanks!!
Take it to an Apple store. Most likely you will have to get a replacement for which you will be charged the replacement fee.
Rice only absorbs water. But it cannot prevent damage to the device. -
Why does my iPod Nano only work when it is plugged into the computer?
My iPod nana is a 4GB iPod and it does not work at all until it is plugged into my computer. It works perfect when it is plugged into the computer. It will not even turn on if it is not plugged in.
By the sounds of it, the Nano's battery is shot and in need of a replacement. You can have replace the battery for a flat fee or send it to a third party repair company for a little less.
Not much else you can do in terms of troubleshooting this issue.

HI,
i have replaced the screen and battery on my iPod 4 i then tested it and it was working so i sealed it closed. (still working after sealed) (when new batterys are installed it is normally reccomended that you give them a full battery cycle for optium battery life), so i let it die. after this i put it on charge and the lightening bolt sign for charging came on, i left it for a full day and no change in battery life and when disconected it died so i plugged it into the pc and this continued so i reset it a few times then it decided to loop the apple sign when conected to power. i put it into dfu mode (the only time the pc reconises it) and went to restore it and it came up error 21 (i think) and now is stuck in recovery mode and dies when disconected from power. Lots of probs
any help would be apreacheated. thanksTake it to somebody with more experience fixing iPods.

I did not have this problem earlier today. I haven't dropped it recently or any such thing. I have, however, used two different audio jacks today. Although it makes keyboard sounds when I type in my pass code, it doesn't make the sounds otherwise. I also tested the sound on temple run and it worked. My slider key is set to mute, not to lock screen. When I try to adjust the volume, it'll say "sound effects" and the volume will be turned all the way down, but it won't let me turn it up. I got this iPad in December and unfortunately did not purchase AppleCare and I believe the warranty has passed. Any suggestions as to what's wrong?
Try A and B
(A) Restart iPad
1. Hold down the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
2. Drag the slider to turn off iPad.
3. Turn iPad back on, hold down the Sleep/Wake until the Apple logo appears
(B) Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected. -
I can't adjust the volume of the iPod Touch when it has nothing plugged into the headphones jack, but i can adjust it when i have earbuds or headphones or a speaker ;plugged into the iPod Touch
Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Insert/remove the the headphone plug a dozen times or so.

My ipod nano only works when connected to charger
i have a 5th gen nano and when i disconnect it from charger it won't stay on. I tried the 5 steps on trouble shooting and reset also still won't come on without charger connected
Make sure the HOLD switch is in the off position. See Chapter 1, page 8, Disabling iPod nano Controls - iPod Nano 5th Gen. User Manual (direct PDF download)
Also try restoring your iPod. Directions for doing so is also in the manual. -
IPod mini only works with car charger!
My iPod mini only works when it is plugged into a car charger. It is 4 months old. It does not work (frozen - no response or display at all) on its own, or plugged into the AC charger, or the USB connection on the computer. I have tried the reset procedure several times and with different power connections with no results. The iPod seems perfectly fine when using a car charger otherwise nothing! Whats going on!!?!?!
Anyone else with this problem??Try to reset it.
Press and hold the MENU and CENTER buttons - at the same time - until you see the Apple logo. This should take about 6 seconds. Also, you want to do this procedure while your iPod is connected to your computer. Ipods are supposed to work with USB port cable and AC Adapters, not only car chargers.
If this doesn't work, then try to update it using iPod Updater software. Open iPod Update, plug in your iPod to your computer and wait until the software recognizes it. Once it does, you should be able to click on the "Update" button. If you can't, click "Restore" -
4s with latest software update will not power off, text will only vibrate, iPod only works with earphones. When I sync it with iTunes it works until power save mode starts, then back to not powering down, making text sounds, or playing iPod out loud.
The Basic Troubleshooting Steps are:
Restart... Reset... Restore from Backup... Restore as New...
Restart / Reset

Backing up, Updating and Restoring

If you try all these steps and you still have issues... Then a Visit to an Apple Store or AASP (Authorized Apple Service Provider) is the Next Step...
Be sure to make an appointment first... -

My ipod nano 4th generation only works when it is plugged into the computer; otherwise, the screen turns black and it is completely unresponsive to any efforts such as pushing buttons, reseting, etc. What should I do?
Sounds like the battery is shot and in need of a replacement. You can have Apple replace the battery for a flat fee or you can send it into a third party repair center for a bit less.

My ipod only works when its being charged!

ipod video Windows XP"my ipod only works when its charged."
Then it sounds like a battery problem.
Try these.
My iPod won't turn on.
iPod has no power and appears frozen.
iPod battery doesn't charge.
If none of the above help, then it may be an issue that requires service.
You can arrange online service here.
Service request.
Or if an Apple store is near you, take it there and have them check your iPod. -
My Ipod touch will only work when plugged into an Itouch radio. When I take it out of the charger, it goes blank. The battery shows fully charged. It appears that the battery is no longer charging. What should I do?
Try a reset: Hold the home and power buttons at the same time until the Apple boot logo appears. No data will be lost. If that fails, the battery may have gone kaput.
