Sound on X-Fi dies after headphones plugged

I am running Vista and have the X-Fi sound card. I have downloaded the latest drivers for Vista. What I notice is this:?After every few days of having no problems, all of a sudden, when I plug in my headphones into the jack on the front of my new Dell, the sound goes dead. It is not the headphone jack, as I first suspected. Because when I reload my Creative Drivers, the sound comes back to life. I don't know what to think about this. Should I trade in my X-Fi for a different sound card, because this problem is definitely related to X-Fi and Vista.
Ps. Originally I had XP on this machine, and my headphones worked flawlessly with the X-Fi and XP. Please tell me there is a "workaround" for this.
??????Stan

Ground loop is causing that humming sound... If you can, connect your soundcard using digital connection, preferably optical.
If you cannot use digital connections, try connecting your pc and amp to same power outlet. That should eliminate that ground loop.
You can also purchase ground loop isolator (galvanic isolator) if you cannot connect both pc and amp to same outlet.
Hope this hel

  • TS2771 I can only hear sounds from my ipod touch with headphones plugged in.

I am only able to hear any sounds/music from my iTouch with the headphones plugged in to it.  I have the change with buttons selected to "on".  Am I missing something else?

    - Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
Try the following to rule out a software problem
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.

I have done a factory reset but it has made no difference. Please help have a very upset daughter it is frustrating do we take this back for a refund and get a new one if so how do we keep the music and photos etc she has on this one? • No sound except when headphones plugged in

I just noticed that there is no sound on my phone except with earphones. The phone calls but I can't hear anything. I just started noticing this today. Alarm and timer sounds are okay.

I have had this problem more than once, and from what I can tell it comes from unplugging headphones while playing music, talking on the phone or some combonation of all. What I have done to fix this is do just that, play music without headphones, plug them in, unplug them, play again etc. Just go through every possible combonation you can think of. Also if you use an fm transmitter that plugs into the docking port, then you need to use that in your tests as well. I can't tell you the right combination, cause I don't know excatly what it was to fix it, but this has happened to me twice, and I got sound back after both times.

  • [SOLVED]No sound in speakers when headphones plugged in since 2.6.38.3

As I already mentionned in another thread, since the kernel26 2.6.38.3 update I'm not getting any sound in my speakers when my headphones are plugged in the front panel of my desktop.
I'd like to get sound in my speakers even when headphones are plugged in.
I was directed at some "Headphone jack sense" option, but there is none in my alsamixer (even after pressing F5.) Can't find anything anywhere on the web either. Most people want to disable sound in their speakers when their headphones are plugged in... Not me.
I'll try to see if I can find the annoying commit somewhere, but meanwhile if someone has an idea, that would be great!
    PS: some technical information...
    Gigabyte H55N-USB3 motherboard.
    $ lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)
    $ cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#* | grep Codec
    Codec: Realtek ALC892
    Codec: Intel IbexPeak HDMI
The speakers are plugged in the rear jack output (not HDMI.)
... and I forgot to say I'm using ALSA.

You realize that the speakers are supposed to get muted if you plug some headphones in the headphone jack, if that doesn't happen it is considered a bug as the new jack sense ... stuff ... is supposed to emulate the old and reliable hardware switch inside the jack. You may be able to pass some option to some module to override this though since everything is done in software now.

  • Digital Out activated when regular headphones plugged in.

    Hi, guys.
I've been fiddling with this for a couple days now.
When I plug regular headphones or speakers into my MacBooks jack, the systems goes into Digital Out mode and thus, no sound can be heard from the headphones. If I plug them out, the internal speakers go back on and sound is back to normal.
After a lot of researching, I found a common issue, where the microswitch inside the audio jack would get stuck, and therefore the digital audio would always be active, even without anything plugged in. I don't think this is the same issue, since the system DOES KNOW when the jack is free, since I can easily switch back to internal speakers by plugging out. That's why I don't think the microswitch is stuck in my case.
I've noticed the red light turns on when headphones are plugged in. Somehow, it thinks any plug is a digital audio plug.
    At this point, I've tried:
    SMC reset
Wiggling a toothpick inside the audio jack
Deleting some audio plist files in my preferences folder
    MIDI Audio configuration
Any tip will be preciated. I'm not in the mood to send it to have the motherboard replaced.
Thanks a lot for any hints!

Thanks. I already tried that twice, but didn't work.

  • Only system sounds play from built-in speakers/headphones!

    Hi All,
I'm at my wit's end right now. Here is the situation:
I woke up this morning and tried to watch a YouTube video off of facebook- no sound. I opened up iTunes to try and play music- no sound. I opened up iMovie and launched a video clip from my HD- no sound.
I delete a file- barely audible sound. I made an error and got the "bonk" error sound- barely audible. As if I only have it at one ) bar, but its at MAX volume.
So I plugged in headphones- The "empty trash" sound works perfect (loud) at max volume. Error messages sound perfect- but when I try and listen to iTunes/YouTube/ANYTHING... no sound.
Troubleshooting I've done (to no sucess):
    Logout/Login with headphones plugged in
Restart with headphones plugged in (both suggested from http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12799085&#12799085)
    Updated Quicktime (as per http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2178)
    SMC Reset
    PRAM Reset (http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=12767451&#12767451)
^ I got VERY excited from the PRAM reset- After self-restarting a second time, the Apple GONG was LOUD (max volume) while all other times it was barely audible.
Unfortunately, it only effected this feature, and nothing else was fixed.
    Any suggestions?

So my husband told me that the night before I discovered this issue, he was using his Apple Remote to lower his sound, and it lowered my iMac's sound as well.
He used that same remote to lower, raise, and do anything and everything to my iMac volume, but I haven't had any luck getting my sound back to normal.

  • Headphone plug/player connection change suggestion/i

    I've recently experienced a problem:
the connector within my zen doesn't properly connect to the headphone plug anymore (probably has something to do with the connectors bending out of place)
this is the second time that i've experienced this with my zen, and i've seen this before with other headphone connectors. So this got me thinking: we have tons of different connector options, why are we still using something which is guaranteed to break down after a couple of years.
Bending the connectors back to their original position doesn't do anything but weaken the connectors. Its a temporary solution, eventually they'll break.
And thats not something you want with a expensi've product like a mp3 player.
so my thought on this whole matter is: why don't we replace the headphone connection with something like mini-usb. which doesn't bend at all. It seems much more appropriate.
And in this society of mp3 player users, who will care about the old connector? probably people will accept this change quite quickly as soon as they realize the benefit.
And i think that changing the connector won't have a lot of price impact. so the headphone prices should stay the same.
a dominant player like creative could probably make a change like this without to much trouble. Not to mention it would take some load of the replacement program which creative has. I'm currently in the process of requesting a RMA again for a minor issue, which is quite laughable actually. Especially because its a problem which could be solved quite easily.
basically i thought i would toss the idea and see if people think it has merit

Good idea, i think it'sshould gives better sound quality , imagine even better sound quality on a creative by doing this.Apple can say good bye
