Sound only from headphone port

When I play a song, the music comes through the headphone jack port. When I plug in my headphones to my ipod, I only get a little sound through them. Most of the sound comes from the jack port with or without the phones plugged in.
Is the connection bad in the port for the headphones? Is this a feature to have the music come through the port?
Thanks.

Reset the iPod or restore. For instructions & other possible solutions read the iPod nano (5th generation) - User Guide.

  • True 5.1 surround sound from headphone port over a Toslink cable?

http://support.apple.com/kb/SP690 page regarding the headphone port simply says: "Support for audio line out (digital/analog)". So, in planning a purchase I have the following 2 questions:
    1. Does the newly released 15" MacBook Pro w/ Retina display have the ability to output true 5.1 surround sound or is it only able to output simulated surround sound? In other words, does the newest MacBook Pro decode the 5.1 signal (separate outputs front center, fronts, rears and subwoofer) over a Toslink cable pluged into the side headphone jack?
    2. Using the above confuguration will the new MacBook Pro be able to play true 5.1 surround sound on HD movies purchased or rented from iTunes?

    Probably:  http://osx411.com/index.php?/topic/38-hook-your-macbook-pro-up-to-your-surround- system/

  • No sound from headphone port in 15" macbook pro mid 2012

    Hi everyone,
I'm having a problem.  I didn't use my headphone port for a long time and then when I did I used a non-Apple headphone and when I got no sound I thought it because it was b/c of this.  So when I used an Apple headphone recently I found I had the same problem.  I am wondering if there is a fix out there or if it is something inherent and I need to get it repaired.  I get sound from the built in speakers just not from the headphone jack.  Much thanks in advance for any advice.

    Try a PRAM reset:

  • TS1574 Sound only from Left Headphone w/ MacBook Pro

Any external headphone that I use with my 13" Macbook Pro, the sound only comes out of the left headphone. The slider in my System Preferances is in the middle, and the headphones are all the way into the jack. Any ideas?

    Often resetting the settings helps.

  • Suddenly no sound from speakers and only from headphones

    Hello,
    I have a HP 8440p VQ664ET#ABU Elitebook laptop running Windows7 64bit pro.
Since today I'm experiencing the following problem:
    1) no sound is heard through speakers when headphones are disconnected.
    2) If I connect the headphones, the sounds are heard correctly through them: this is the expected behavior
I don't think it's a speakers hardware problem because I can make the speakers play sounds for one or two seconds like this: while a sound is being played, such as music file for instance, if I move up and down the headset volume cursor (regardless if headphones are connected or not) I can hear the played sound through the laptop speakers for a few seconds, after which the speakers mute again.
    So to summarize:
    1) Headphones disconnected: no sound from speakers
    2) Headphones connected: sound from headphones
I rebooted, suspended and restored without any luck so far.
I'm under the impression that there might be a problem with the headphone jack: it is like the laptop always thinks that the headphones are connected and therefore cuts the output to the speakers.
    Any clues?
    Thanks
    Sergio

Try installing the sound drivers from the following weblink:

  • Sound coming from headphone jack becomes heavily distorted at the slightest movement of the headphone cable.

I use headphones almost exclusively of my Macbook Pro (Early 2011, way out of warranty) so this has really been annoying me. For about 1-2 weeks now whenever the wire from the headphones I have plugged in to the jack moves, even slightly, the sound coming from the left side disappears almost entirely while the sound from the right side becomes quiet and filled with static. Strangely, it doesn't appear to happen with everything that I'm doing on my computer. For example when playing games the sound seems to work just fine for the most part, but playing music or watching Netflix causes issues whenever the cord moves, which is really annoying.
To get it to stop, I have to move wiggle the plug around in the jack and slowly move the cord into a place where it will not be affected by movement very easily. I read that some people have been able to get around this by buying an external sound card and using the headphone jack on there, but I'd rather not do that if possible as there isn't really anywhere that I can put it without most likely picking up some interference. Plus I only have two USB ports, so I have to use a powered USB hub thats about 2-3 feet away from my computer for most things. Anyone know if this is a viable solution or how much it would cost to fix at the Apple Store?

Also, I have tried restarting my computer, messing with the audio settings, and various other settings that I thought might help.

  • Sound only from left channel

I bout an IPhone 3G for my wife last friday. She complained about the music quality saying that her little cheap MP3 player sounded better. I plugged in the headset and found that there was sound only fro one channel (Left). I plugged my headset from my 3GS and it also only had sound from one channel. Any suggestions?

    Try restart, reset, then restore.

If this doesn't help, you may need to make an appointment at the Genius BAr ( Apple Store). The iphone has a one year warranty.

  • My ipad 3 does'nt sound only with headphones

my ipad 3 wifi doesn't sound only with the headphones it sound all aplications, my ipad have only 20 days of purchase

I am trying to understand your post but it is a bit difficult for me to interpret exactly what you are saying - and the point of confusion for me is where you seem to be saying that apps DO have sound. If that is true, that would rule out systems sounds being muted.
However - did you check to see if you have system sounds muted. You can flip the side switch and see if the sound returns or double tap the home button and swipe to the right in the task bar at the bottom and check the software switch all the way to the left.
If your iPad is less than 3 weeks old, I would make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar and ask them to evaluate your iPad. Something is obviously wrong with it and if they cannot get the speakers to work properly, they will replace the device.

  • Static from headphone port

so i recently plugged a speaker into the headphone port on my 5S, later that same day when i used headphones one side sounded alright however the left earphone was making a static noise, i switched earphones and the static was till there. However the sound playing through speakers was fine, if anyone knows whats happening or a solution pls reply :^)

Try cleaning out the headphone jack in case of debris that might be interfering with the connection/disconnection.

  • Left Audio Only From Headphones Jack With External Speakers

Yes, the balance is set properly under the sound system preferences.
So here's the problem, I have JBL Encounter speakers connected via the headphone jack and since yesterday only the left speaker produces sound.
I've plugged my ipod into the JBL speakers and they work fine. I've also used headphones with my computer and again, left audio only.
I've even switched the right and left satellite speakers and again only left audio is produced... though on the right (side) satellite.
Any thoughts on how to correct this? The nearest apple store is 2 and 1/2 hours away so I'd prefer not to go if there is another fix.
My three month phone service is up but I'm still covered under the apple care for a few more months.
    Thanks in advance.

Sounds as if your headphone jack is either defective or has been damaged by having a cord yanked at some stage, Kanji
It is either a trip to your nearest AASP or a mailing box from Apple to get it resolved. Applecare will cover it if the problem isn't due to accidental damage (though a cat tripping on the cord can be enough to produce such results and the price could accordingly be substantial as the port is mounted on the logicboard on recent MBPs as I understand it) .
You might want to try a regular pair of headphones in the socket to make sure the problem also occurs with them, too, though.
    Cheers

  • Sound only from 3 of the 6 spekers in T6100

Hello,I just purchased a set of T6100 speakers. I can only get sound from the 2 Front speakers and the base. I have set the computer to 5.1 (no special sound card, just what came with Gateway and IBM) and I have tried it on 4 laptops.
Do I have bad speakers? Is there something else that I need to do. I am unsure of where to plug in the 3 jacks.. the IBM only has one... Green. This is my first (and maybe last) set of more that 2.1. I am going to buy a set of BOSE 2.1 for this computer but I wanted some at least average speakers for the other laptop (so far it is not average). What am I missing?

    SQLserverGuy,
You're missing a proper soundcard that can support a 5.1 speaker system. Laptop generally support only stereo devices such as headphone or 2/2.1 speaker system so you need to get a proper soundcard that is capable of supporting 5.1 or more speaker system. You can still use the T6100 speaker with your laptop but you will only be able to get stereo output(like what you're experiencing now).

  • Strange noise coming from headphone port on Macbook Pro

    Hi all
I have recently bought a brand new Macbook Pro 2.4gh Intel Core 2 Duo, and was browsing through my iTunes looking for something to play... I had plugged into the headphone jack my pair of BOSE around-ear headphones and could hear a strange noise that sounded like electrical interference. I can only hear it when nothing is playing through the headphones, like the situation I mentioned above. And i know it is a problem exclusive to my MBP as it does not happen on my iMac, iPhone, iPod ect.... any ideas what may be causing it, of how to get it to stop....?
    Thanks

    Hello
I have the same problem. I can't use my Sennheiser / V-Moda inear headphones because of that noise. I changed the MacBook, but the noise is still the same. I spent one hour talking to one guy from AppleCare and we came to the conclusion that headphones with low impedance (16 Ohm for the headphones mentioned above) are not working properly with the new MacBook Pro.
What do you think ? Is this possible ?
The solution for me was to buy a Logitech speaker system with external audio jack... and it works fine now (speaker and headphones)!
I'm a new Mac user and I'm quite disappointed about this audio issue. I really didn't expect Apple to have troubles with a headphone jack...
    Thanks for your feedback.
