Sound out of sync on DL DVD

The audio is out of sync by about 3 seconds on a 132-minute DL DVD I just encoded and burned in iDVD. The video was edited in Final Cut Express, using 16-bit 48Khz audio recorded using Sound Studio 3.
From Final Cut Express each movie was processed with Anamorphicizer (a 3rd-party freeware tool) to preserve the 16:9 aspect ratio. Then the reference movies generated by Anamorphicizer were imported into iDVD for burning.
After encoding the first time, iDVD failed with a -34502 error before burning. This was due to the menu error. I changed menu templates and burned again. It multiplexed everything and burned to the DVD.
When I played back the disc, I found the audio is about 3 seconds out of sync with the video. A single-layer edition of the same movie was also produced and the audio was flawless on it (though the picture quality was bad).
As an added note, the DVD plays well on my computer but the movie on the second layer won't load on my set-top DVD player. Separate, probably un-related issue, but worth noting.

Hi Joel Nelson
As an added note, the DVD plays well on my computer but the movie on the second layer won't load on my set-top DVD player. Separate, probably un-related issue, but worth noting.
Let me get this striaght .... It's only out of sync on the standalone DVD Player but plays ok on the computer? Is this correct?
If so, have you tried the out of sync DL DVD on another set top DVD Player to perhaps isolate this issue?
Suggestion: Take it to a local consumer electronics shop and try it out on multiple name brand DVD Players.

  • Audio goes in and out of sync when burned dvd played on standard DVD player

I made a short film recently (7:00 mins) and once completed and burned to DVD using iDVD and DVD Studio Pro about 20% of the clips have out of sync audio. Just slightly out of sync. Some more noticeable than others.
Playing off the timeline syncs perfect, the exported prores 422 mov file syncs perfectly, and if the finished DVD is played on my mac or my pc the sync is perfect, but when played on a standard dvd player to my TV I get the syncing problem, but only at certain points through the film. As I said, about 20% of it. The rest of the film is fine.
Shot on Canon 5d mkII - footage converted to prores 422 1920x1080. Audio recorded on Zoom H4N with some ADR recorded on logic pro. Audio synced manually using clapper board reference. Using a 27'iMac with current OSX update as of 14 March 2011. Edited in FCP 7, exported to proress 422, burned to DVD with current iDVD and DVD Studio Pro, all current versions and updates.
I have tried exporting to mpg4 and mpg2 - no joy. I checked audio bit rates and discovered the logic recorded stuff was 44.1khz as opposed to 48, so I converted to 48 but still no fix.
    I am STUMPPED
    Any suggestions?
    Cheers
    Dallas

Should I convert just the clips which are out of sync in the DVD, or all of theclips in the FCP timeline?
If that is the issue, wouldn't I have the problem in the final prores mov as opposed to just when its played dvd to tv?
Ill try it though. Its an odd problem so its likely to have an odd solution. Willing to try anything at this point.
    Thank you.

  • Sound out of sync on video on n97

I HAVE JUST NOTICED THAT THE VIDEOS THAT I HAVE DOWNLOADED ONTO MY N97 HAVE THE SOUND OUT OF SYNC,ANY IDEA WHY AND HOW TO FIX IT?

    First off, don't SHOUT.
Second, do the videos play correctly on a PC or other device?, maybe the video is out of sync with the audio in the file.
Third, if the video plays correctly in other PC or device, then what's the bitrate and framerate?, maybe it's too high for the N97 to handle.

  • QT breaking up and sound out of sync - cpu or ram or browser problem?

    1. I try to watch BBC news video clips but can never get anything other than the sound out of sync, the picture breaking up and what I can only try to describe as a 'delayed streaming problem' where the film jumps frames from one frame to 'much later'.
    2. Also the BBC has options of 'screen size' - I can't go to their large size so am stuck with a small version. (I don't think this is associated with the core problem.)
I play these clips either through Media Player or Real Player but it makes no difference.
I have flip4mac installed. I have the ATI display drivers updated.
I hope you understand the problem.
I hope I'll understand the answers!
    Thanks for any helps.

Another thing I've just noticed is that when the news clips are downloading and playing it is only at 36kbps. I have as far as I can set preferences at 256kbps.
I am connected to DSL but I'm not sure at what rate the ISP delivers. (I know it's the cheapest!)
Hope this helps anyone inclined to help.
    Thanks

  • Why is sound out of sync when I burn a DVD?

I finished a movie in iMovie 4 as I always have and opened iDVD from iMovie. After creating the opening title and burning the disk, I discovered that the sound was slightly out of sync with the image. It was fine in iMovie. Any ideas what went wrong?
    Richard

    Welcome to the forums.
There can be sync problems if the original video was
captured in Long Play mode or the camcorder's audio
quality is on the lower setting. You can search the
forum for other solutions, but one option to try is
Extracting the audio in iMovie. This will make a
copy of the original audio and put it on one of your
audio tracks (and mute the original audio). The
copied audio often will behave better.

    Thank you, John-
Your suggestion about extracting all the audio worked. My latest DVD burn was in snyc.
I am still confused as to why such a workaround is even neccessary. I have never had this problem of out of sync audio with any other projects. Why it suddenly happened is a mystery to me. I'm very happy your suggestion worked but it is rather labor intensive if it has to be done on every project from now on.
    Any ideas out there?
    Thanks again.

  • Import from iMovie 5 to 6: Now sound out of sync

I'd been editing short films in iMovie 5.
Today I bought iLife 6, hoping for improvements. In the first iMovie (from v5) I opened, the sound is slightly out of sync with the image.
    This is a major problem.
I'm an actor putting together clips for my reel of TV & film work. Obviously, the result has to be as impressive as the sources allow.
Please advise. I dare not use iMovie 6 until this is fixed.

    matt,
    Thanks for your comment.
In this clip, original is from a DVD (Columbia Student film). I've been using a ADVC100 to transfer to computer file. No problems with sound sync in iMovie pre-5 or 5.
I can start from scratch in iMovie 6 if I absolutely must, but I've got other clips edited in v5, and I've spent too much time with these to risk the sync issue.
In any case, the audio seems a major bug in v6.

  • Sound out of sync when burning a movie on The Mac.

I'm buring an AVI. movie just by right clicking and selecting burn the file to disc option and when I play the DVD on a seperate DVD player afte about 5 miniutes of film the sound is seconds out of sync from the actual movie, can anyone advise me?
    Thanks

The best solution would be to use a DV capture utility and then import the resulting file(s) into final cut.
Aplle itself offers capture utilities, which can be found in the Developer Firewire SDK:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=305924
You need a free Developer account and to download the SDK there. After installation you will find a new folder on your harddrive called "Developer"
There are several capture utilities in the program section of the SDK. You want to use the one called "VirtualDV". It´s very simple, but powerful though. It does capture without sync loss, compared to capturing via the Quicktime framework, like Final Cut and iMovie do. It simply grabs the raw DV stream coming from the Firewire interface.
After the capturing you have a Quicktime readable raw DV file, which easily can be imported to be worked with in any DV capable software.

  • Ipad audio and sound out of sync

For a few months my iPad's audio has been out of sync with videos as well as the sounds like the keyboard clicks. Sometimes it is more out of sync, sometimes less. I have tried turning the device off and on again, resetting preferences, and searching online with no solutions found. Anyone know how I can fix this?

I'm having similar problems transferring VHS video to Quicktime. Another problem I'm having is when I transfer a VHS video to iMovie and then export the video to H.264 format, I have similar sync problems, even though the iMovie seems perfectly in sync.
I'm going to try to transfer several alternative video formats (video from my cable DVR, Video from live TV, and video from a digital mini cassette to try and figure out whether the VHS format is the culprit. Will keep you posted.

  • Burned DVD works fine in a mac but audio out of sync in a DVD player!?

The titles kinda says it all. Nearly. I've made my most complicated (for me) DVD to date. It's a concert DVD shot in anamorphic. I've edited in FCP and exported with compressor with all the appropriate settings, to mpeg 2. I've built the DVD in DVDSP with an intro from motion, motion menus etc. It previews fine and looks outstanding (if I do say so myself!). I burned the finished folder with Toast 8 ( as a UDF) and the burned DVD plays under DVD player on all my macs faultlessly. When I put the DVD in a normal DVD player, the audio is SERIOUSLY out of sync (the dancing is out of time let alone the lip sync) and the picture is stretched wide, like it's trying for 2.35.1 when it's only 16.9 or something.
Can anyone offer any suggestions? All help appreciated.
    Gareth

I've edited in FCP and exported with compressor with all the appropriate settings, to mpeg 2.
Double check to make sure that you edited in Anamorphic and also encoded as 16:9 video not 4:3 - also make sure you set the Track to 16:9 Letterbox in DVD SP.
What encoding rates did you use for the video and audio? Sometimes if the rates are too high it can cause drifts.
On the audio side, did you export the FCP as self contained and make the audio AC3? Also you can try just exporting the audio as an AIF and encode that as an AC3.
How did you burn the DVD (Speed and Media used?) Sometimes bad burns/media can cause issues.

  • Rented movie sound out of sync in windows 8

I rented a film from the iTunes store but the sound is out of sync and gets worse as the film continues. It's a brand new laptop, running windows 8. I had this problem on my previous laptop. It seems that there are a lot of people with similar issues. Anyone have a solution?
    Thanks
    Gary

The frame rates don't match. The sequence is 29.97 and the clips are 30 fps. I can't seem to find anyplace in the preferences where I can set frame rates. Am I stuck with this.
As for the codecs, how do I check these? Most of the clips I'm using I've downloaded from YouTube.
Thanks for such a prompt response.

  • Canon HDXL1 Sound out of sync  after capture in HD when shot at 24Frames

When shooting with the new Canon HDXL1 in HD with the frame rate set at 24Frames, the audio is way out of sync when captured in FCP using the apple Intermediate codec and HDV firewire. If I play it through the camera to a HD moniter via compnent cables, the sound is in sync. The lag only occurs when capturing in FCP. Any answers? I have been told that Apple may address this issue on their next FCP update. Am I doing something wrong?

The audio default for the Canon XLH1 for HD is 48khz.
In the HD 24F mode the camera records in 24fps progressive mode. During playback the signals are down converted to 60 fps interlaced using the 2:3 pulldown method.
While recording, if the HDV/DV terminal is set to HDV output, the output signal will be in 24 fps progressive. The signal output from the HD/SDI terminal and the component out terminal will be down-converted to 6ofps using the 2:3 pulldown method. Mayber I need to use tools>remove advanced pulldown in FCP on the clips?
    Thanks for your reply

  • My iTunes is playing the films with sound out of sync with video

I bought some films off of the iTunes store and whenever they're playing, the sound is out of sync with the video. Why is this?
    Please help.
    Sam.

Maybe this will help. My first movie I made in IMovie approached thirty minutes long. I read in a book that any movie made in IMovie that approaches that length or longer will start to lose sound sync. The trick is to extract the audio from the video. Sure enough it worked for me.

  • Why is the sound out of sync with the video on my PC laptop?

The sound is out of sync with the video, it skips (like the old-fashioned vinyl records) or there is no sound at all. As well, the video portion is jerky.
I'm travelling and don't have access to a TV so have to watch it on my PC laptop.
I've rebooted my laptop a couple of times, but the problem re-occurs.

    In what app?
Have you restarted or reset the device?

  • Red frames and sound out of sync in HDV

I'm fairly new to capturing HDV. I'm trying to capture from a Sony A1E into PPCS6. I'm choosing capture format HDV and Preset HDV 1080i25 (50i). I'm in England on the PAL system.
I'm able to capture, but the resulting footage always has the sound a good few frames out of sync. This can of course easily be dealt with. But more worryingly, I frequently get 1 or 2 or 3 frames of solid bold red. Clearly something is not right. Can anyone please advise? I'm about to do a big project which will entail digitising about six hours of footage, so I do need to get on top of this. Thanks.

The dropped frames can result from bad tape,
dirty or misaligned heads in the deck, etc.
Could anyone possibly be kind enough to run quickly through the settings that I should be using on both camera and project?
    HDV settings on the camera,
and a Sequence that matches your footage...
    1440x1080 (1.3333)
    Do this:
Or, right-click a media file and select 'New Sequence From Clip".
How do I choose the right sequence settings?
