Sound out on 5 hd channels

charter hd box , second box, sound out or get one word then out and one word out etc , only on 5 hd channels. tried optical and coaxle does the same on both. sound does work played through tv on hdmi.  is it charter or my denon reciever  causing the problem or something else

Charter.
If the issue happens on some channels but not others, that automatically means there is a problem with the source its coming from (i.e. your cable box)
Anything i say is not a direct response from Best Buy or Geek Squad. I just post on here to add my insight.

  • Sound Cutting Out on Standard Def Channels with or wthout DVR

    Hi!
We are having occasional sound drop-out problems. They seem to only be happening on standard def channels although we have a hi-def box.  (We often record sitcoms and kids shows in standard def to save room on the DVR.)
The problem is that the sound cuts out for a fraction of a second (just long enough to notice) at random spots.  If we rewind and play it back, it still drops out in the same spot so it seems the issue is with the signal getting to the box from the outside line, not an hdmi cable issue as I've seen mentioned elsewhere.
The issue occurs whether we're watching a previously recorded show or a "live" one (understanding that even the live shows are delayed a few seconds to enable the DVR to record it).
I've seen other sound issues related to switching channels but this is not the case here.
I've also had it happen on a small TV with no box. We just have the coax going right into the display to watch standard def  network shows on it.  This leads me to think it's a signal issue, not a DVR one.
Anyone else have this and/or have any luck in getting it resolved?
    Thanks!
    Jeff

  • Various types of sound out of center channel on

So lets see, quicktime movie trailers, music in winamp, games,?MSN nudge sound, ?-they all come out all 5. channels (Z-5500s)?But the audio for flash movies I've had on my computer, some WMP videos, MSN new message sounds - these are all center channel only - and werent on my last system.
another thing - if I change the audio settings under control panel to quadraphonic - they do come out all the speakers, back to 5....... center channel only. its very distracting and stupid to not be utilizing all the speakers for things like a video. whats the deal here? Thanks for the help in advance.

apparently the issue might be that the X-Fi/console just plays mono encoded material through center only?
i preferred when it utilized all the speakers for things like that anyways on my audigy gamer...
    is this the case?
edit: CONFIRMED. I found the msn sounds, and haha the NUDGE IS STEREO and the TYPE is MONO. Explains everything! now to get Creative to fix it....
    Further:
with CMSS3D off, mono will play over both R and L, just with no seperation of course. (but then your rears center will never be used by pretty much anything outside of games)
with it On XPAND, it will play through center only. (4 not being used)
with it on SURROUND, it will play through center and rears, but not front L and R. (the 2 most important ones arguably not being used)
seemingly on my Audigy , all speakers would be used even for mono sources. So am I correct in guessing they changed things?
All speakers should be used for mono sources.
Can creative update this in a new driver?
EDIT: ARG I just found out it only happens in "entertainment mode" at that! Game mode does 4/5 (not centre). What is the reasoning for this?Message Edited by deusfaux on 03-0-200609:2 PM

  • [Solved] No sound out of M Audio 2496

I have an onboard Intel card and the MAudio card and I just use ALSA.
    aplay -l
**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: ALC883 Analog [ALC883 Analog]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 1: ALC883 Digital [ALC883 Digital]
    Subdevices: 1/1

card 0: Intel [HDA Intel], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]

    card 1: M2496 [M Audio Audiophile 24/96], device 0: ICE1712 multi [ICE1712 multi]
    Subdevices: 1/1
    Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
    The Intel card works fine.
The MAudio card, however, does not output any sound at all. The snd_ice1712 module is loaded and when I send a sound file to the device, like so:
    aplay -D plughw:1,0 /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav
I can see the levels in envy24control moving, so I know the card is receiving the signal, but nothing comes out of the speakers.
    What I have tried:
Disabling the onboard card in the BIOS
Editing /etc/modprobe.d/alsa.conf to make the 2496 load in the first slot
Unmuted all the channels, devices etc in alsamixer and envy24control
My ~/.asoundrc is from the ALSA wiki for this card
Took the card to a neighbours and plugged it into a Windows box and (eventually) got sound out of it..
Read the threads on these boards and searched the web for non-Pulse fixes
I am at a loss. I know the card works, but I can't seem to get a peep out of it.
Is there something obvious that I am missing?

  • Analog sound out of SPDIF

Analog sound out of SPDIF' I have connected a digital coax cable from the digital out to a Harman Kardon stereo receiver. The cable has been run to another room in order to watch downloaded shows/movies in my living room.
I receive DTS and DD sound just fine using this connection however PC sounds/MP3s and other analog sounds do not work. Is there a way to get this to work without having to add cables? Being forced to manually switch the output signal on the computer and on the stereo receiver is not a very good option.
If this is not supported are there any other sound cards that do support this? I can't imagine I am the first person to want to be able to watch DTS movies and listen to MP3s on a stereo receiver without having to swtich inputs/use a different set of cables.

? I just wanted to what I have experienced based on my digital spdif connection:
After looking at the support site for stereo receivers, I see the following statement:
"If you are going to connect from the Digital Out on your Sound Blaster to the Digital Input on your receiver, you will only receive multi channel audio when your are playing DVD games, or DVD movies, or standalone AC3 files. You will only hear stereo (front left and right channels) when playing MP3, MID, AVI, WAC, or WMA et."
This statement is confusing bc the last sentence leads me to believe that I will hear MP3, and WMA audio from the digital out but it will only be in stereo sound, not surround sound. That is fine with me, I simply want to be able to hear sound from a single cable.
Can someone clear that statement up from the support site? Will any MP3, AVI, or WMA? sound play on a stereo using the digital coax input?

  • The best way to get 5.1 sound out of Mac Pro

Hello. I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but could someone recommend me the best way to get 5.1 sound of a Mac Pro. Since I don't require hi-fi -level sound, just simple directional audio for gaming and such, I wouldn't like to pour a lot of money to this. As I see it, I'd need an external sound card, internal PCI-E soundcard or speakers that have an optical input. I would like for the cost to be in two digits, euro or dollar.
    Any suggestions about hardware?

Once again, the issue of 5.1 w/Apple comes up.
    Here is the bottom line.
You will only get 5.1 audio if the following conditions are true:
    - You are using the OPTICAL output on your Mac
    - You are playing a DVD with a 5.1 soundtrack
That's it. The simple truth is, that even if you have a Z-5500 setup (like I do), you still will not get 5.1 surround in ///any/// applications other then while playing a DVD.
There is no way to get 5.1 out of a game on a Mac Pro. No matter how much money you throw at it. The support simply is not there. It is not a software issue, it is not a driver issue. It is the game developer's issue (sort of), and it is a //lack of hardware// issue.
The complex truth, and I will attempt to explain, isn't that simple.
Your Mac Pro or Macbook only has a single line-out, that supports 2 channels at the maximum. Optical audio will only handle 2 channels as well- it's the same signal (in two channels) on a different medium, basically.
All PC soundcards that support proper 5.1 (save for a select few) have //multiple// line-out jacks for Front Left/Right, Center/Sub, and Rear Left/Right (3 plugs total for 5.1). Since your Mac/Mac Pro doesn't have this, you can't hook up a 5.1 speaker set and expect true 5.1.
You do have optical audio, however, this only works in 5.1 when a Dolby Digital signal is piped through the optical cable.
Dolby Digital works by encoding a 5.1 signal as a data stream, sending it to a receiver, where it is decoded and played back as 5.1 stereo. DVD's have this audio pre-encoded on the disk.
If you wanted 5.1 output from your games, they'd need to ether have the sound/audio data encoded as Dolby 5.1, or support encoding on the fly to take a 5.1 signal, encode it, and pipe it out the optical audio plug. Xbox360 does this, because they've licensed the technology from Dolby- as have the game developers.
Unfortunately, none of the developers for Macintosh gaming have yet to include live Dolby 5.1 encoding (I think Doom 3 had a beta patch that did- I could be wrong).
If the game doesn't support the above feature, then you only get basic 2 channel audio.
*Do not buy a Fireface 800.*
This is a professional audio interface (like an external soundcard). While it supports 5.1 output via 6 individual outputs, you need SPEAKERS that have +built in amplifiers+ (called a Studio Monitor). Not just one amplifier- all the speakers have it built in and take a balanced stereo input.
You're looking at $1300 for the Fireface 800, and another $200 per speaker. This is not cheap, is not meant for gaming, and is not consumer grade equipment. It's pro audio, designed for Logic 8 and similar.
Even if you did spend the money, trust me, I'd know... I have a 5.1 setup running through an Apogee Ensemble (a $2000 "soundcard"), and I do not get 5.1 support from Quake 4, C&C 3, or any other game. I only get 5.1 surround from my audio production in Logic 8.
To recap, since this has been asked many times- and I don't want you wasting your money here (just trying to be helpful!)...
*There is no simple or cost-efficient way to get 5.1 from your Mac, other then while playing a DVD movie.*
I would highly recommend that you buy a very good pair of 2.1 speakers with a Sub woofer. Maybe even a pair that takes an optical input for audio. If you really want to spend the money to *watch a DVD in surround sound,* then you can... And it'll work wonderfully, but gaming will not give you surround sound at all.
*Again- There are no games out that support 5.1. Just because you technically support Dolby 5.1, doesn't mean the applications are aware of it and can utilize the 5.1 surround.*
Edit: I may have neglected to also mention that the Firewave unit will support 5.1 properly through 3 separate plugs (much like a PC soundcard does), however the only game I am aware of that supports this is Unreal Tournament 2003 for Mac (or was it 04?), with an experimental patch for 5.1 via OpenAL. Last I heard, it worked okay, but crashed occasionally.
Most of the other games out there just don't support 5.1, period (probably due to the lack of hardware on the Mac computers from the factory).

  • I getting no sound out of the USB connection in my car from my new iPod Classic. Has anyone encountered this problem?

I getting no sound out of the USB connection in my cars from my new iPod classic. The song name artist display on the console in the car but no audio. This is happening on 2 cars - Nissan Rogue and Acura TL. My older iPod classic played fine in these cars. Has anyone encountered this issue?

I have a similar problem with a 160 gb Classic, about 5 years old - if I move the plug one channel may be heard and tehn the other. The interface works but not the sound. Different ipods eg nano work perfectly.
The two cars I have are an Audi and a BMW and both have manufacturer connectors

  • DDL or DTS = no sound out of rear speak

I have a sb xfi plat with optical out going to a dd/dts reciever and every time i play an mp3 i only get sound out of the front speakers and not my rears, is anyone else having this issue?

    bigjohns97 wrote:
Thank you for the responce, however with every other DDL / DTS connect (nforce2 soundstorm,?blue gears, auzentech) you could enable DDL or DTS connect and any stereo source would automatically be 5. or 6. surround sound. See below.
MP3 source -> real ddl/dts connect sound car?-> dolby digital / dts stream -> external reciever with dolby digital dts light on +sound on all speakers
On the sound blaster the following happens
MP3 source ->?sb xfi plat -> dolby digital /dts stream with only 2 channels being used?-> external reciever with DD or DTS light on + sound from only front speakers.
Are you telling me this is how?creative designed this to work because?it isn't working like?every other DDL / DTS connect card out there.
I don't kow how and where exactly the defferences are between those solutions. But as I told it, it is the way the Creative implemention handles it. If you don't use CMSS-3D or use the surround functions of you Decoder (I have a seperate balance for "surround" on my Z-5500 where I can set If the rear speaker are used *at all*) you won't get automaticly Surround Sound with MP3. Of course it still depends a bit on you player software, there are player/filters (AC3 Filter; ffdshow) out there which can do that too. Upmixing Stuff, I mean but then you don't really need DDL. I use it to encode actual game sounds, because strangely I don't have any popping and noise in there while I use it (just read up that crackling/popping thread.

  • Xfi platinum dual sound out

I would like to find out if this product is capable of doing dual sound out? So you have sounds from dvd out into headphone and music out to speakers. is this possible of this product??

If you mean two separate stereo outputs then, it's possible (X-Fi Plat is 7.1 card -> 8 analog mono output channels available (in PCI Card) + 2 analog mono output channels (in I/O Drive). I don't know if the Headphone-out in I/O Drive is shared w/ ports in PCI card (line-out 1&2) so, ... .
You need an additional player software that allows you to set the output ports freely --> NI TRAKTOR BeatPort Player and Foobar as for an example can be used (I suggest to use ASIO device drivers w/ this other player).
Your DVD player outputs normally through output channels 1&2 when stereo source is used (and uses DS/MME/WDM device drivers) --> you just set the additional player to output through channels 3&4 (or 5&6, 7&8). Some other settings needs to be done in CT software but, since you don't seem to have the card in hands yet, ...
If you meant to output multichannel (5.1) and stereo simultaenously, that may be a bit more difficult to be done (I quess) ... .

  • Sound out of both rear speakers when I test back left, but nothing when test back rig

    Hi All
This has probably been posted before but I can't find the answer.
I have a sound blaster x-fi Fatalty platinum card (just upgraded from extreme music)and I am having trouble with sound settings on my speakers. (this happened with the music card to). When I run the speaker setup i get front right, left, center and sub perfectly fine but when it comes to the rear thats another problem. When it says rear right there is no sound of the rear right speaker, when it says rear left I get sound out of both rear speakers.
When installing the platinum I uninstalled the drivers and program both in windows xp and vista (I have a dual boot machine) and reinstalled from scratch but it still does this. (this happens on both windows)
I have a set of Logitech 5500 speakers connected by analog and no digital connection as I use it for games only. On the speakers it is set to Direct input with the effect as 6 channel(which is the way I have always had it when it was working).

  • Horribe sound out of k7n2 delta ilsr

Ive got a k7n2 delta ilsr, with 7.6 bios. ive had this problem for as long as i can remember having this board. It originally had 7.0 bios. Using headphones with the out jack on the back, the sound quality is fine. If I hook it up to my reciever Via a stereo/composite adapter, it sounds like total crap. There are low volumes, and a horrible squealing noise coming out of the center channel. If i turn my reciever to stereo and not surround, it still sounds crappy and low volume. Ive tried everything, looking for shorts on the mobo to the case, and nothing. Its been there forever. Ran mobo out of case, still there. Im beginning to thing that it might be damaged and I might have to rma. What do you think

    Hi,
This could be a feedback problem. Do you have a microphone attached? If so either disable it or turn the Mic volume down using the Windows sound options.
    Just a thought!

  • Anyone got "GOOD" sound out of GNB-Max 6565?

    Hello,
I'm getting a very lousy sound out of my 6565.  I tried all options such as with or without the S connector, 2, 4, and 6 channels, all possible inputs, different hardaware acceleration levels, etc.
The sound output is bad, and the microphone doesn't detect anything.  I've noticed that many people were having the same problem.  Does this mean that this MB requires a special speaker system?  Can't I use two speakers like old times and get stereo sound out of them without any software/hardware tweaks?
    Thanks for any help?

    Two legacy speakers

I have the same board but I didn't even try onboard sound.  My experience with onboard sound on other boards has made me just start with a good pci sound card (sound blaster audigy).  Every onboard sound I have tried either sounded bad or worse.  If the board had a creative chip on it you may get medium quality.  Don't waste money on new speakers to use with the onboard sound, spend the money on a soundcard.  Of coarse if money is not an issue you could buy both.

Was just on the phone with Apple about this.
The solution was as follows for me anyway...
    Go to your Finder
    Choose the Go Menu
    Choose Computer
    Choose your Macintosh Hard Drive
    Choose your "Library" Folder
    Choose the "Preferences" Folder
There should be a folder called "Audio"
Move that whole folder to the trash
    Empty the Trash
    Restart from the Apple Menu
    When you are back up and running;
Choose System Preferences from the Apple Menu
         Choose Sound
In the output tab you should now be able to make the HDMI "Sticky"
Enjoy your sound over HDMI and no more dirty knees or broken backs unplugging the desktop speakers!

I want to plg my apple tv in to a projector but i want to break the sound out to a seperate audio solution. Is there a lead that I can use? The sound system has 2 x phono connections?

The sound can already be "broken out" by using the optiocal cable jack. That, of course, assumes your audio input is capable of optical inputs. If not, you might have alook into something like this: https://www.google.com/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=opt ical+to+rca+converter&tbm=shop

I'm not sure I follow your words Fuzzynormal. You've helped by offering the insight that my issue in Logic Pro 9 is not a bug but a feature. But fell short of enlightenment by being a judge of character and of how one should interact in this forum. You insinuate that I haven't tried to solve the issue on my own when in fact I have. These forums are always my last resort. You further suggest that I am complaining. This is not a complaint. It is a genuine issue that I cannot figure out. Then you think that Brazeca is holding my hand and being a nice guy. Brazeca is helping people like me who might not be as adept at using Logic Pro as probably you are. This community forum was established to raise questions, answers and dicussion to help Apple's customers better undertand their operating systems and related issues. You are doing a disservice by not contributing positively and by trying to make this forum what you want it to be. You may have all the time in the world to try figuring out stuff but we are not all like you. We all have different schedules and different levels of understanding. And that is what this forum is for - to help people move forward. If you can't contribute positively then keep silent. And by the way, you say to "read the words that are printed down to explain to you how that works" what words are you talking about? Why don't you be of some help instead of trying to own this forum.
