Sound output has DRASTICALLY changed

Bran new macbook pro 13' came with os x 10.7.1 and I recently updated to 10.7.2 I dont know what happened but it sound as if my mid range has been scooped and my volume has been stolen. As far as I know there is no master eq settings or any other sound options besides sys pref>sound>output. Any hep would be much apreciated

Utilities/Audio MIDI Setup is the global tool to adjust volumes etc.
Select the Outpout device and adjust the sliders there then close the app.

  • Sound output has more bass than old model

    Hello
I've just purchased a new MAC PRO. I've noticed that the sound in the headphones has a lot more bass presence than the old model.
    Anyone else found this
In iTunes, eq is Flat or off. I can't find anything else that would changed the sound quality
    Thanks

"- 16-bit, 44.1Khz - the sound was not quite as "wide" as the 24 bit files, but the kick drum, bass guitar, and even the snare sounded markedly more full and punchy. The bass line could be heard un-interrupted pulsing at the bottom."
The "wide" is perfectly understandable since our perception of depth and width relies a lot on low-level ambient cues that could easily be lost in a 16-bit system vs a 24-bit system.
The other part is harder...just another man's theory here, but if we were to take this to extremes...say a 3-bit system: off, soft and loud.
It would be true then that anything over a certain input level threshhold would be assigned as a "loud" bit. Could that make certain characteristics and sounds appear more "punchy"? Obviously, there are 2 to the 16th power levels of resolution in a 16-bit byte, but I'm just wondering if this concept could affect the perception more so than with a 24-bit system.
Another factor to consider is that 12-bit systems would generally have more distortion in the analog section than a high-end 24-bit converter. Distortion can definitely affect the perception of both loudness and 'punchiness'. Remember, the signal goes through analog circuits before it hits the converter chip. That analog portion is pretty critical to how the system sounds.
That's why two a/d converters can use the same converter chips and even the same clocks, but still sound different.

  • ITunes has drastically changed in past two days?

When I connect my iPhone and iTunes starts, it is TOTALLY changed.
I have version 11.0.0.163.  I had to really work at getting part of the interface or my usual home page to come up.  I'm sure I didn't make any changes and wonder if it's something I may have changed on my iPhone?
I can't get to the area that shows my Apps and the way to change them or "arrange" them on my phone as I was able to do previously.  I had to actually hunt and search to even get the title bar back and the side bar.
Is this all caused with the latest update or have I mistakely made some sort of error?
I have someone understands this dilemma I've tried to explain the best way I know how.

Thanks for the reply.  At least I feel a little bit better.
Do you know anyway I can get back the format I'm used to and like?
Could I safely uninstall this version and go back to the previous one?
No wonder, I'm comtemplating getting rid of my iPhone and iTunes.  All this hassle is NOT worth it.
What about being able to rearrange my icon apps in iTune vs using the darned phone.
    Thanks again.

  • Device for sound output changing randomly

After the latest OS update, I've been having issues with my sound output settings. My sound will play most the time through the "line out" setting, but then randomly the "sound effects" will play thru the internal speakers. I keep changing the setting in the "sound" panel of system prefs but it keeps changing randomly on me. I've saved the setting and rebooted and thought it would be fine, but it keeps doing it. Once my Sound Output setting were changed too, and my music just started playing thru the internal speaker.
Anyone know what's up with this, and what could correct the problem?

It may sound silly, but from my own experience (having had exactly the same problem while working on a soundtrack) after snooping around I found that the plug/cable I was using (a cheapo cable) was somehow the guilty party.
It fit snugly, no wobble, no crackling, changed the cable and all problems went away.
Same cable works 100% now used to hook up the iPhone to the mixer.
Seems to make no sense, and yet... voodoo (or a badly soldered plug).

  • Can´t get optical sound output from my brand new mini

have connected the MM to an optical input on my Yamaha RX-V659, but I can´t get no sound.
Mac-side: After connecting and turning on, "System Prefs -> Sound -> Output" has changed to Digital Output and says that no output controls are available for this output. I have tried playing from iTunes and DVD Player. In DVD player the option for selecting Digital Output had appeared, and I chose that. When I take a look at the end of the cable I plug into the receiver I see a constant red light.
Yamaha-side: I have tried 2 different optical inputs, and gone over my settings several times. The receiver does not seem to detect digital audio coming in. I tried the Signal Info menu on my receiver, and for another source it output:
    PCM, 48kHz, 2.0, Analog
On the optical input it says:
    ---, ---, 2.0, Analog

I have a similar setup to a Kenwood receiver. You are correct that ALL system sounds (frontrow, system alerts, etc.) will play through to your stereo.
Have you tried switching Toslink cables and/or the toslink to miniplug adapter that is plugged into the mini?
I had a bad cable at one point in time, and a bad adapter at another point in the life of this system. You perhaps tried these things already but I only saw mention of trying 2 different inputs (I assume on the receiver) and made no mention of cables/adapters.
Let me know how you make out.

  • Sound output device on bootcamp

when i run bootcamp on my mac book pro, sometimes the sound output device keeps changing between speakers and headphones (even if I don't have any plugged in). This is very annoying since you can really do anything with sound without hearing constant skips. Please help! Thank you.

  • Problem with mac's sound output

Recently, I have upgrade my mac to Yosemite. And then the problem comes along. I found that my mac always didn't output any sounds. After some searching, I found that in the sound panel of system preference, the sound output device always automatically changes to "Soundflower(64ch)". If I change it to "Internal Speaker", then the sound comes out. How the output device "Soundflower(2ch)" and "Soundflower(64ch)" come from? And why the sound output device automatically changes to "Soundflower(64ch)" every time when I plug in an earphone or restart my mac?

Try this, go to Users/Library/Preferences folder. navigate down to com.apple.systemsound.plist. Remove it from the folder to the desktop.
Now go to System Preferences/ Sound and input the preferences you want for your sound output and input etc. This creates a new .plist in your Users Library
Preference folder. Now either logout and then login or restart the computer. These new settings should now hold. If they do and you are happy then you can trash the older .plist file.
    Good luck.

  • Sound output only has option for Digital Out, no internal speakers, and no headphones.

I recently got a new 2012 Macbook Pro 15" and my sound output is not working correctly. The only option is Digital Out - Optical digital-out port. There is no intenral speakers option, nor is there a headphones option when I put them in. I am running Mountain Lion and unfortunately have tried looking up similar posts with no help. I have attempted to reboot the SMC and perhaps one other trick, but I have not had any luck. If anyone has any idea what I should do or if you need more information to make a diagnosis that would be great! To note, it worked fine when I first got the computer, but when I was messing around trying to hook my computer up to an HDTV (i have a thunderbolt HDMI cable that sends sound as well) I had a couple of problems (I think it was because it was a very old Vizio that did not support the HDMI) and perhaps some of the settings got changed on my computer. Anyways thanks in advance!

    Hi,
That is good news! For some reason I only experienced that for a little while before it straightened out itself. But I know that was driving a lot of people crazy. Thanks for pointing out that 10.6.2 did the trick.

  • Can not change sound output. Help Please

Well, i've been digging all the forums lately in web. my problem is, i can't change my 'system' sound output to my sound card which is Native Instruments Audio8 Dj.
Let me explain my problem decently. I do the usual procedure, system preferences > sound > n then select the output. but nothing happens. it is always set on internal speakers or headphone or whatever plugged in to the *Built-in Output*. I try switching from audio-midi setup n that doesn't work as well. The system perfectly recognizes the sound card, i can get output from sound card with applications which have their own output settings. But i cant change the system output. I have the latest version of soundflower loaded(this might be causing the problem who knows), i used many soundcards before(or maybe even ex-drivers?) n they used to work until i updated to snow leopard. I also tried trashing the files in macintosh hd > library > preferences > audio >>
and those files *did not regenerate* after restart(like 10 times), so i had to copy them from my imac.(hehe). i tried resetting pram or nvram.(didn't do any good too)And also i tried trashing soundpref.plist which didn't do me any good neither. Now i need that sound card to give me my system output. I don't need drivers of any other ex-sound cards or whatever. My drivers are up to date. And im pretty sure this ain't an hardware fail.
    So, any ideas? Thx.

I am having the exact same problem. I have spoken with Apple Care and they are having my case reviewed by "Engineers," apparently. Its very frustrating as I cannot listen to iTunes or any of my video games through my really nice monitor speakers. FYI, I had this problem without installing Sound Flower, since then I have installed it in the hopes that having something different to select it might work but no changes. If I hear any good news from Apple I will be back to let you know. This seems to be a very rare problem as I have only found one other post about this issue.

  • Sound output: keeps changing from internal speakers to Apple TV

My iMac keeps changing the soudn output from internal speakers to Apple TV. Why. This makes it a pain. Eveytime I use the iMAc, I have to go into preferences>sound>output and switch to internal speakers. Any ideas how to stop this form happeneing?
    Thanks!

If you use LogMeIn, it is their sound driver.  I'm having identical problem and it started after using LogMeIn.

  • How to change sound output?

    Howdy
I recently bought a high-end toslink cable which I connected from the optical/digital out from my iMac to my receiver. The sound quality is excellent, however I noticed that all sounds now gets passed to my Hifi system all the time. The only way (I could find) to route sound to the internal speakers is by physically unplug the cable. This is really not workable in the long run as it wears down the plug and, not to mention, my patience...
So, anyone know any way to switch output to internal speakers w/o having to unplug the cable? Or is there another approach (I'm thinking Airport Express)?
    /Cheers

Unfortunately, you cannot select +Internal speakers+ in System Preferences Sound pane Output tab, if you have something plugged into the audio output port.
If you got an AirPort Express, its AirTunes feature would certainly work for iTunes output. However, I believe AirTunes would only play the output of iTunes. So it would work great as long as you were only playing songs and videos using iTunes, because all other sounds will come from your computer speakers. No need to change any setting manually, after you are done listening over the stereo system. However, it would not work so great, if you wanted the audio output of some other programs to be played from the stereo system; but there seems to be a third-party solution for that issue
    http://www.rogueamoeba.com/airfoil/mac/
If you have separate powered computer speakers that connect using a standard mini-jack, one alternative is to get a USB (or possibly FireWire) sound output device (if you want to be able to change the sound output setting manually). The least expensive one may be the Griffin iMic.
    http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic/
It provides a second sound output port over USB, so it should show up as a separate choice in System Preferences Sound pane Output tab. Therefore, you should be able to use the Sound preference pane to manually switch the sound output from you stereo system to the computer speakers connected over the USB iMic.

  • How can I change default audio / sound output or remove the displayport audio option?

I upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite and while I don't have any of the number of issues that see to accompany that move, I've discovered a different one that is not necessarily related to it, but is irritating.
    2014 Macbook Pro Retina
I use a thunderbolt to displayport (AKA just displayport) cable to attach a Dell monitor to my mac at the desk.
Prior to this update, the mac ignored the display as far as audio was concerned (the Dell does NOT have audio built in).  But now it seems to think it does.
Moreover, it continually switches back to that Sound output in the preferences whenever I plug or unplug an audio source from the audio jack.  This is Annoying!
Is there any  way to either
    1) set the default to prefer the internal speakers / headphones instead of the DP?
    2) remove the Sound output for the DisplayPort connection (which is a false connection since the Dell doesn't actually have AUDIO)
    Thanks much

I found the com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist and Com.apple.audio.DeviceSettings.plist, but can't make sense of either enough to feel confident in altering any entries there.  here's the SystemSettings one that seems like it might have something you could change, but...

  • Has anyone seen a DRASTIC change in speed after upgrading to 5.7?

Has anyone seen a DRASTIC change in speed after upgrading to 5.7? Just the simple task of copying photos now takes FOREVER. Importing iphoto for just two years of photos (my smallest iphoto library by far) took A WEEK. I did not have access to Lightroom for a week. I thought it was just going to be the iphoto import, but now my regular import is taking almost 1/2 an hour and only 22 photos into the import.

Oh no! I think I might be experiencing the same problem, oddly with almost exactly the same time to import from iPhoto, just shy of 7 days...
I also posted this problem to the form and am actually on the phone with Adobe support right now. I have an iPhoto library of ~15,000 photos and I didn't expect it to be very fast, but it's taking an average of at least 40 seconds per photo to import, and it has kept complete focus of LR so I can't even confirm that it isn't importing duplicates. By my calculations it should take over 166 hours to complete the import! Something has to be wrong here. I've been going for over 48 hours and am scared to stop the import if this really is normal performance.
Are normal import tasks also slow for you now? Can you share any more details? I can't test myself yet since the iPhoto import is still churning, but it could help troubleshooting with support. I'll let you know if they come back with anything, I'm on hold now.

  • System preferences in iMac for sound output shows only headphones. How do I change this to get sound through computer? Thanks.

In sound System preferences on iMac  headphones is only option for sound output. How do I change this to get sound output through computer, as in a video etc. Thanks.

There is a switch in the jack that may be stuck. Try plugging and unplugging a headset plug into the socket a few times.
You might try dipping the headset plug into some pure alcohol, wiping it nearly dry, and repeating the process to clean/clear the socket.

  • Can't change device for sound output

    Hi,
Hi I've a MBP 17 inch that is plugged in to an USB sound card.
I usually just switched between the USB sound card and the internal speakers through the day, but for some reason that isn't working for me anymore.
No matter what preference I pick from the Sound Preferes output devices list, the Mac plays its sound on whatever device it picked as default -- for example, if I boot it without the USB audio card plugged in, it plays on the internal speakers; if I reboot it with the USB plugged in, it plays sound to the USB card.
So the actually problem is in switching between the devices.
I couldn't link this to anything abnormal, just started out of nowhere.
Any ideas? Any preference files I can delete or re-setup?
From the Console application, this is what I get when I try to change devices:
2/2/10 8:05:25 AM System Preferences[477] Error who? trying to set sOut device to 262
    Thanks in advance.

I wasn't familiar with that app; I just tried it, and got the same problems.
It won't let me change the sound output.
